Heartbeat Approaching
Chapter One: A Warm Dinner
As night falls, the city lights gradually illuminate the scene, as if draping this bustling world in a shimmering veil. Inside the cozy house, soft lighting creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. On the dining table, several carefully prepared dishes exude an enticing aroma.
The male protagonist, Lin Yu, and the female protagonist, Su Yao, sat facing each other, both wearing faint smiles. Over this period of time, they had experienced a lot together, from the initial marriage with its contractual elements to the numerous adjustments they made in life and work. Unbeknownst to them, their relationship had undergone subtle changes.
"This dish tastes really good today. I didn't expect your cooking skills to get better and better." Lin Yu picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork ribs, put it in his mouth, and praised it with satisfaction, his eyes full of admiration.
Su Yao blushed slightly and said reproachfully, "That's all from practice. There were quite a few problems at the beginning, like putting in too much salt or not controlling the heat properly."
Lin Yu couldn't help but laugh when he recalled the chaotic cooking scenes Su Yao had done before: "Haha, but it's really great now, it tastes even better than what you get at restaurants."
Su Yao laughed along, her laughter echoing in the room like the most beautiful notes. "You, you always know how to make me happy. But a lot has happened lately. Remember when you were sick? It scared me to death."
Lin Yu's eyes softened, and he nodded: "Yes, I owe you a lot that time. If you hadn't asked around to find experts and resources, I don't know how much more I would have suffered. I was so touched to see you running around in the hospital bed at that time."
"What are you saying? Since we are... husband and wife, it is only right that we take care of each other." Su Yao lowered her voice slightly when she said the word "husband and wife." Although they were in a contractual marriage, their feelings were quietly growing, and the word carried a different meaning.
As they ate, the two shared their past experiences, from Lin Yu dealing with the thorny issues of competitors at the company to Su Yao being framed at work and then being helped clear her name by Lin Yu. Every story seemed to tighten the emotional bond between them.
Chapter Two: Kitchen Time
After dinner, the two of them tacitly cleared away the dishes together and headed to the kitchen. In the kitchen, the tap water was running, and Su Yao stood in front of the sink, starting to wash the dishes, while Lin Yu helped by handing her dish soap and wiping the washed dishes.
Unwittingly, Lin Yu's hand touched Su Yao's hand. In that instant, it felt as if an electric current had passed through their bodies. Su Yao's hand trembled slightly, and her heartbeat quickened. She looked up at Lin Yu, and their eyes met. A hint of panic flashed in Lin Yu's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by tenderness.
"I'm sorry, I..." Lin Yu wanted to explain, but felt that it was superfluous. It was just an accidental touch, but why did it make the atmosphere so ambiguous?
Su Yao blushed and shook her head: "It's nothing, it was just a little sudden." She lowered her head and continued what she was doing, but her heart was pounding like a deer.
Looking at Su Yao's flushed ears, Lin Yu found her exceptionally adorable. He gently moved closer, wanting to help her take the bowl from her hands to wipe it, his body almost pressed against her back. Su Yao could clearly feel the warmth emanating from Lin Yu, the warmth surrounding her making her face burn even hotter.
"I...I'll wipe it, you just wash it." Lin Yu's voice rang in Su Yao's ears, slightly hoarse. His voice seemed to have a magical power, making Su Yao's hands almost disobey her.
"Okay, sure." Su Yao responded and handed the bowl to Lin Yu. Their fingers touched again, but this time the touch was not so hasty. Instead, it was filled with an indescribable tenderness, as if an invisible force was pulling their hearts closer and closer.
Chapter Three: Ripples in My Heart
After wiping the dishes, Lin Yu carefully arranged them, while Su Yao turned off the tap and dried her hands with a towel. A quiet silence fell over the kitchen, yet a strange emotion seemed to stir within that silence. Neither spoke, but they could almost hear each other's heartbeats.
"Um... I had a really good day today. It's been a long time since I've had such a relaxed chat." Lin Yu broke the silence first, looking at Su Yao with sincere eyes.
Su Yao looked up and met Lin Yu's gaze, a faint smile playing on her lips: "Yes, it feels like such moments are quite rare. You're usually busy at the company, and I have my own things to do, so we haven't really had a proper chat yet."
Lin Yu frowned slightly, as if he had thought of something: "Actually, I sometimes think about how our contract marriage started out and turned out like this. Do you think this is a kind of fate?"
Su Yao's heart skipped a beat. She had also pondered this question. From the initial unfamiliarity and mutual ulterior motives to the different kind of attachment she now felt for the person in front of her, this journey had indeed felt like an arrangement of fate. "Well, I guess so. Many things are unexpected."
A brief silence fell between them, but this time it wasn't awkward at all; instead, it seemed as if they were each savoring the quiet growth of their feelings. Lin Yu's hands unconsciously clenched and unclenched. He wanted to confess his feelings, but he was afraid of breaking the beautiful atmosphere. What if Su Yao only saw him as a friend she had known for a long time? Wouldn't that make things awkward between them?
