Chapter 698: The Dead Are Gone
Lin Yilan had just finished speaking when she felt the phone in her pocket ringing. She took it out and saw the name of her best friend Chu Siran on the screen. She wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, took a few breaths, and pressed the answer button.
"Yilan, are you okay? I read the reports about Vivian back home and I can't believe it."
"Yilan, I know you're sad right now. I'm sad too, but don't be too sad. The dead are gone, and we who are still alive should live our lives well. After all, Vivian wouldn't want to see her best friend so exhausted."
Chu Siran's voice came slowly from the phone, and one could feel that she was suppressing her emotions.
Lin Yilan looked at the phone, listened to her voice, and choked up for a moment, tears in her eyes. After a long time, she said, "Siran, do you know? Last time we were together, we were talking and laughing, and I didn't expect that after such a short time, she's gone. I... I really... I really want to know why she is so depressed!"
Her thoughts drifted back to the past, her face heavy with sorrow. If only she, who always wore a bright smile, were still here, how wonderful it would be. But unfortunately, she was no longer here, leaving only herself, all alone.
"Yilan, everyone has their own difficulties. Maybe there is something that she can't bear, so..." Chu Siran's eyes were red when he said the last sentence.
After a while, Chu Siran sighed softly, stretched out his hand to stroke the hair on his forehead, and said slowly, "Don't think about other things, just take good care of yourself."
"Yeah." Lin Yilan covered her mouth and nodded.
Lin Yiran bit her lip sadly and whispered, "Are you okay over there?"
"I'm fine, I just can't help missing him." Chu Siran's words had a hint of finality.
Lin Yilan knew who she was talking about, and that person was gone.
"Siran, forget about her! Find someone who loves you and live a good life, okay?" Lin Yilan said softly.
"I also want to forget him and start a new life. He is like engraved in my mind and I can't forget him even if I want to. Yilan, why do the people we love the most leave us? What did we do wrong to suffer such a blow?" There was some grievance and sadness in Chu Siran's voice.
When Lin Yilan heard this, she was stunned but didn't say anything.
Chu Xi arrived at the funeral. He bowed and glanced at Vivian's photo, feeling a pang of sadness. Although he and Vivian weren't particularly close, it was difficult to accept the sudden death of someone he knew.
She glanced at the people standing next to her and found Lin Yilan there. She walked over and said to her, "It's a good thing that you, a friend, remembered her and held a memorial service for her."
Lin Yilan pulled the corner of her mouth and said, "She was my good friend. She passed away unexpectedly, and I should do something for her. Sister Chu Xi, thank you for coming to attend her memorial service."
Chu Xi shook her head, "It's okay, don't be too sad."
Vivian's parents, who were standing by, saw that although Chu Xi was wearing black clothes, the watch and handbag on her hand were obviously very valuable, and they couldn't help but think about something in their hearts.
The two of them rolled their eyes and looked at each other, seeing a bit of greed in each other's eyes.
After seeing Chu Xi's room, the two of them left.
Chu Xi was walking on the road when he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around and saw a middle-aged woman and a middle-aged man. Seeing that they seemed to be following him, he frowned.
"Who are you and why are you following me?" she snapped.
Vivian's parents smiled awkwardly and said, "We are Vivian's parents. You are Vivian's good friend, right?"
Chu Xi paused, nodded, with a question in his eyes, "Why are you following me?"
The two of them were overjoyed and walked forward. Vivian's mother was wiping tears in front of her. "We followed you because we wanted to know what made Vivian so depressed. My daughter is so young, and she's gone like this. How can we, as parents, live like this? The thought of Vivian gone makes me sad and I want to follow her."
Vivian's father beside her also wiped away tears.
Chu Xi stepped forward and shook Vivian's mother's hand, saying to them, "Don't be too sad. Vivian would be sad too if she knew about this."
Weiwei's mother nodded, wiped the tears from her eyes with her clothes, and forced a smile. "Thank you, I don't know your name yet."
"Auntie, you can call me Chu Xi." Chu Xi said with a smile.
"Alas, Miss Chu, you don't know that since Vivian's sudden death, the two of us seem to have lost hope in life. Her father has been in poor health, and I have been taking medicine and injections all year round. It is also because of her filial daughter that she always thinks of us and sends us some money, so that we can survive until now. From now on, we have to rely on our broken bodies to support ourselves." At the end, Vivian's mother burst into tears.
Chu Xi didn't know what to say for a moment, so she just said comfortingly: "Auntie, please don't cry. Crying too much is not good for your health."
Hearing this, Vivian's mother stopped crying.
Vivian's father walked up to her, supported her, and said in a half-blaming tone, "How could you scream and wail like a ghost in front of Miss Chu? It's so embarrassing for Miss Chu! Besides, I know my body well. I won't die for a while, so I can still support the two of us." He didn't know what he was thinking, but he changed his tone and sighed, "If Vivian didn't owe so much money, we wouldn't be hiding from those debt collectors."
Hearing that Vivian owed money, Chu Xi frowned and asked: "Vivian owes money, how is this possible?"
Wei Wei'an's mother forced a smile and looked at Chu Xi, "Ms. Chu, we didn't believe it either. But it's the truth. She does owe a lot of money, five million!"
She looked at Chu Xi with a sad expression and continued, "Miss Chu, I don't know if I should say something. Do you have five million that you can lend us to pay back the money she owes?" Fearing that Chu Xi would refuse, she quickly said, "Don't worry, we have a villa in the city. When we sell it, we will return the money to you. Is that okay with you?"
Chu Xi didn't know what to say for a moment after hearing this. She didn't quite believe that Wei Weian would owe so much money.
She thought for a moment and replied politely, "I don't have that much money right now. I'll contact you when I get the money together. Is that okay with you?"
After hearing this, the two nodded and smiled, "Thank you, Miss Chu, for being willing to help us."
Chu Xi shook her head nonchalantly, "No need to thank me, I'm also Wei Wei'an's friend, I'll naturally help if I can."
Seeing that Chu Xi believed them, Vivian's mother thought her plan had succeeded, so she quickly said, "Ms. Chu, could you please leave us your phone number? If you have collected the money, please contact us."
"Okay." Chu Xi paused, his eyes turned, and he answered with a smile.
After their plan succeeded, the two of them didn't stay long. They told Chu Xi they would see each other next time and left.
