Chapter 207 Second Brother
Pei Ning's world has collapsed.
“I haven’t been with you for just one day.”
The warm yellow sunlight streamed into the living room, casting dappled patterns of light on the carpet.
Pei Ning, who said those words, did not feel the warmth of the sunlight at all. He only felt a piece of metal scraping against his throat, and a dull pain spread down to his heart. Even his mouth was filled with the taste of blood.
An Jin's averted gaze confirmed the truth of the matter for Pei Ning. Boundless anger overwhelmed Pei Ning, burning his vision until it went black.
Pei Ning was already enraged, and Xue Mingyue and Yan Qing, who were about to speak but hesitated, stepped forward to stop him with furrowed brows.
Yan Qing advised, "Calm down, Pei Ning."
Pei Ning abruptly turned to look at Yan Qing and confronted him, "How can you expect me to stay calm about something like this?!"
His eyes were bloodshot from anger.
"Just one day."
Pei Ning, on the verge of collapse, questioned Yan Qing: "I was only away from you for one day."
As he said this, his questioning gaze was like two sharp arrows, shooting towards the silent An Jin.
"First Chen Su... and now Jiang Jinhan has appeared."
Pei Ning sneered, her voice filled with pain and mockery: "An Jin, do you treat your home like a garbage dump? You bring in all sorts of dirty and smelly things."
Have you ever even considered me?
Pei Ning pushed aside Yan Qing, who was blocking his way, and strode towards An Jin. He straightened An Jin's body and looked directly into her eyes.
"What am I?"
His voice suddenly rose, and he questioned An Jin with a ferocious expression.
An Jin pursed her lips tightly, her long, curled eyelashes trembling with fear, her eyes brimming with panic and helplessness, almost overflowing.
She glanced at Jiang Jinhan, then quickly looked away: "Pei Ning...it's all my fault. I let it slip. Blame me if you want."
In order to protect herself, An Jin subtly betrayed Jiang Jinhan with cunning words.
"Did you let it slip?"
Pei Ning's voice sounded as if it were being ground out from the depths of his throat. He grasped the key point in An Jin's words, his gaze quickly sweeping over Yan Qing and An Jin to confirm the truth of the matter.
"Um."
An Jin nodded in agreement.
She lowered her head, her face full of guilt, afraid that Pei Ning would notice something was wrong with her gaze.
"I was so happy at the event last night that I drank a little too much, and on the way back I accidentally let it slip..."
An Jin stopped there.
She left Pei Ning ample room to fill in the blanks, skipping over the most crucial information points and pointing the finger at Jiang Jinhan.
Jiang Jinhan met Pei Ning's scrutinizing gaze. He calmly stepped forward and admitted, "That's right, I was the one who threatened An'an. If you're unhappy, take it out on me. An'an is a girl, and she can't stand you acting like this."
As Jiang Jinhan spoke, he reached out and rescued An Jin from Pei Ning's clutches.
Xue Mingyue, who was originally planning to fight for her brother, was instantly speechless upon hearing Jiang Jinhan's words.
Good grief, so everyone's like this.
Xue Mingyue's gaze darted back and forth between the three men in the room.
He shut his mouth, slowed his pace to Yan Qing's side, and while preparing to stop the person, he held his breath and started watching the drama unfold.
Upon hearing this, Pei Ning, who was initially furious, suddenly became less angry. In fact, he even felt like laughing.
He looked at Jiang Jinhan, feeling a strange sense of seeing himself in a parallel world within the real world.
"grass."
Pei Ning's anger turned into a curse.
Hearing this, An Jin, who was pretending to be scared and soft with her head down, immediately buried her face in Jiang Jinhan's arms and sobbed twice.
"Pei Ning... I was wrong, please don't be angry..."
An Jin looked up, sobbing, about to speak to comfort Pei Ning and shift the blame to Jiang Jinhan, but when she looked up, she saw a strange expression on Pei Ning's face.
Upon closer inspection, she realized that the expression looked quite familiar.
Why are you suddenly not angry anymore?
An Jin asked this question with tears still on her face.
Pei Ning rolled her eyes at An Jin: "Aren't you happy that I'm not angry?"
An Jin: "I'm happy, but you were just about to come up and have a 1v1 real fight with Jiang Jinhan. It's really strange that you're acting like this now."
An Jin touched the top of her head and said, "You haven't been possessed, have you?"
The change in emotions so quickly is really inexplicable.
Pei Ning: Stop thinking about these things.
An Jin pressed further, "Then why did you suddenly stop being angry and suddenly agree?"
It's really weird.
Pei Ning irritably pushed aside An Jin, who was blocking her way, and said to Jiang Jinhan, "Come with me, I have something to ask you."
An Jin was worried that something might happen if the two were alone together, so she said warily, "You can't say anything in front of me, and you're not allowed to arrange fights in private."
We don't want someone to die, that would be terrible.
Pei Ning clicked his tongue impatiently. Seeing that everyone in the room was one of his own, he simply gave up and asked Jiang Jinhan, "I'm asking you, did you also have something on An'an's hands, which is why An'an agreed to your pursuit?"
Upon hearing this, An Jin exclaimed, "Damn, is that all you're asking?"
Pei Ning glanced at An Jin, whose anger had clearly risen, and inexplicably felt his own aura diminish. He asked her with concern, "Are you hungry since you just woke up? There's food in the fridge."
An Jin rolled her eyes: "I'll eat whatever I want, I'm so angry I'm about to burst."
Pei Ning gave Yan Qing a look: "There's something in the fridge, you and An'an haven't eaten yet, have you?"
Yan Qing: ......
He stepped forward without complaint and advised An Jin, "Let's go eat first and let the two of them talk to each other for a while."
An Jin reluctantly followed Yan Qing away, and before leaving, she specifically told the two of them not to fight.
After the unrelated people left, only Pei Ning, Jiang Jinhan, and Xue Mingyue remained in the living room.
After talking with An Jin, Pei Ning's remaining anger had mostly dissipated.
He sat calmly on the sofa and even handed Jiang Jinhan a bottle of mineral water.
"Sit down. I'm curious how you convinced An'an."
Jiang Jinhan said in a flat tone, "This is between An'an and me, and I don't think I have an obligation to tell you."
"Don't give me that." Pei Ning scoffed, "We're all in the same boat, why pretend?"
He unscrewed the cap of the mineral water bottle: "You're just afraid to say it, aren't you?"
Pei Ning, with an air of "I've got you figured out," said Pei Ning, "You're lucky to have run into her. But let me tell you the truth, An'an is a very vengeful person. Don't be fooled by her quiet demeanor; she's probably up to something nasty."
"Besides, Jiang Jinhan, I remember you're also in the industry, with a big family and business. Why do you have to compete with us little people for An'an?"
Jiang Jinhan smiled gently: "If this is all you want to say to me, then I think we have nothing more to talk about."
Pei Ning: "What's the rush?"
He looked at Jiang Jinhan with great interest: "To be honest, you should call me Second Brother."
Xue Mingyue, who was eavesdropping, couldn't hold back any longer. He noticed that Pei Ning had been spending a lot of time with An Jin, and even his speaking habits were becoming increasingly similar to An Jin's.
He got up and left the living room, walking into the bustling kitchen. His stomach, which had been full, suddenly felt hungry again as soon as he smelled the aroma of food coming from the kitchen.
Xue Mingyue took the bowl and chopsticks herself, sat down at the table, and ate what was called breakfast.
