Chapter 106 There's nothing we can do about her

Chapter 106 There's nothing we can do about her

The moment Gu Zhi got up and left the bedroom, the hairs on Ruan Yi's back stood on end.

Her heart pounded, and she practically scrambled to her feet, staying until the man's footsteps disappeared at the end of the corridor, until she was sure he was really gone.

In a moment of quick thinking, Ruan Yi rushed into the toilet and turned sharply to look at the sink.

She grabbed the glass wash cup on the table, her knuckles turning white from the force. The next second, she closed her eyes and smashed the cup against the mirror opposite her with a loud "bang!"

With a crisp shattering sound, shards of glass flew everywhere, and Ruan Yi stepped back slightly to avoid them.

Reaching into the wreckage of the mirror, I found a fragment with the sharpest edge.

He grabbed a bath towel from the shelf, hastily wrapped it around a corner of the shard, left the bathroom, and bent down to cut the soft hemp rope around his ankle.

The rope that Gu Zhi replaced wasn't thick, but it was very tough; at least it wasn't an alloy chain.

The glass shards slipped uncontrollably in her hands, each forceful cut accompanied by a piercing screeching sound.

Ruan Yi couldn't hear any noise downstairs; the unknown sense of danger made her heart beat even faster.

He could only force himself to swing his arm faster and harder, the "swoosh swoosh swoosh" of cutting echoing in the space, becoming the only chance at this moment.

Sweat streamed down her forehead and into her eyes, blurring her vision. Her arms ached as if they were about to break, but she dared not stop.

She couldn't let Gu Zhi kill anyone, and she couldn't let anyone else die because of her.

Gritting his teeth, he put all his strength into his wrists, sawing the fragments back and forth on the hemp rope, cutting the fibers one by one.

Tiny shards of glass splashed into her palm with each movement, stinging her skin. Drops of blood, like tiny red beans, dripped from between her fingers and fell to the ground.

"Hurry up..."

Ruan Yi gasped for breath and muttered to herself. Her palms were already covered in tiny shards of glass, and blood mixed with sweat stuck to the towel.

Finally, during another forceful cut, the rope made a slight snapping sound, and she quickly added another cut.

With a snap, the soft hemp rope broke completely.

With only heavy velvet shackles left on his ankles, he almost reflexively got up, only belatedly realizing the pain when he saw the dense bloodstains on his palms.

He grabbed a tissue from the side and wiped his hands haphazardly, removing some of the bits of blood and debris, revealing a dense network of tiny cuts on his palm.

There was no time to feel the pain; I flung open the door and rushed downstairs, trying to keep my footsteps as quiet as possible.

We can't let Gu Zhi continue down this wrong path! Absolutely not!

Forgetting the stinging pain in her palm, Ruan Yi just wanted to hurry, before everything was beyond repair.

Ruan Yi rushed into the courtyard, but her fingertips had barely touched the cold door when she was pinned to the spot by the tightly locked door.

Gu Zhi locks the door even when he's only away for a short while.

The electric fence stood silently atop the wall, as if mocking her helplessness on the ground, for even outside her bedroom she remained trapped in this airtight cage.

In her desperation, she tried to pry open the keyhole with her fingernails. Just then, five gunshots rang out unexpectedly outside the courtyard.

"Bang bang bang— bang bang!" Short, rapid, and deafening sounds, like heavy hammer blows.

Ruan Yi's movements suddenly froze, as if her blood had instantly frozen.

A gun? Gu Zhi actually brought a gun?!

Tears welled up without warning, blurring my vision.

It's over, everything is over.

Who fell to the gun? Did he kill someone else, or...?

Ruan Yi dared not think any further; her whole body trembled uncontrollably, her teeth chattered, and her lips turned as white as paper.

"Hmm!"

Suddenly, a force came from the back of her neck, and she was pulled backward violently, crashing into a warm embrace filled with the smell of gunpowder.

Ruan Yi gasped and instinctively tried to struggle, but the arms held her tightly with an irresistible force.

It wasn't until she stiffly turned around, her nose almost brushing against the other person's chin, that she could see clearly the face so close to hers—it was Chen Xun.

The man's forehead was still damp with sweat, his breathing was rapid, and his eyes were filled with lingering fear and anxiety.

Ruan Yi's gaze passed over Chen Xun and landed on the wall not far away. The electric fence was still intact, and a dark insulating suit lay at the base of the wall, with bits of grass still stuck to the edges.

She looked up at the nearly three-meter-high electric fence again, then glanced down at the insulating suit that was strong enough to block the electric current.

Thank God, this guy actually has a brain sometimes.

"Are you alright?" Chen Xun's voice was extremely low, heavy and hoarse.

He had actually rushed over immediately, but stopped as soon as the car left the parking lot.

If I were to approach recklessly and fail to protect Ruan Yi, that would be utterly disastrous. Just thinking about the possibility of losing her makes my heart ache as if it were being stabbed.

The man gritted his teeth and retreated, spending a large sum of money to contact the mercenaries who were handling the emergency mission, and urgently purchased all kinds of tools and demolition equipment that might be needed.

Shen Xun raised his hand to wipe away the tears on her cheeks, his fingertips brushing against her cool skin.

"Those are mercenaries outside, they're wearing bulletproof vests, they're fine."

His palms were incredibly hot as he held Ruan Yi in his arms and gently comforted her.

But what if those gunshots were...?

"They won't shoot Gu Zhi, will they!?"

Ruan Yi's voice was firm, trembling with a sob, yet it pierced the man's eardrum like a steel needle.

She had just escaped from that man's imprisonment, and she already knew that Gu Zhi had been framing her and preventing them from reconciling.

But now she's worried about the person who locked her up?

The warmth in Chen Xun's eyes instantly vanished, as if he had been thrown into a flame of despair, leaving only a scorching ferocity.

Before Ruan Yi could finish saying, "Although he did bad things, but..."

The man suddenly raised his hand and gripped her chin tightly with his knuckles, the force so great it seemed he wanted to crush that fragile bone.

"Ugh!" Ruan Yi frowned in pain, and just as she was about to speak, her lips were sealed tightly.

This was not a kiss at all; it was a retaliatory act of plunder.

Shen Xun bit her lip so hard it almost drew blood, his tongue forcefully prying open her teeth and aggressively coiling around her tongue with furious aggression.

It sucked and bit, as if retaliating, or as if venting the jealousy and anger surging in its chest.

A suffocating sense of oppression filled the air.

The man's hands were not idle either; one gripped her waist tightly, pressing her firmly against him, so that their bodies were pressed together without any gap, as if they were about to be embedded into each other's bodies.

The other hand was behind her buttocks; the force of his knuckles was heavy but not excruciating, yet enough to make her softness overflow from between his fingers, allowing her to clearly feel his anger.

A hot tear fell onto Ruan Yi's nose.

Chen Xun...cried?

At this moment, what the man felt most intensely was despair, even more so than anger.

Gu Zhi treated her like that, Ruan Yi knew that Gu Zhi had kept those letters, knew that Gu Zhi had drugged her, yet she is still worried about him now?

Why should I be angry that Gu Zhi would pretend to be well-behaved?

Why has Ruan Yi never shown him any favoritism?

The more he thought about it, the more fiercely he kissed her, almost as if he wanted to devour her whole.

Ruan Yi was breathless from the kiss, but she did not choose to struggle.

She knew she had gone too far; even when Shen Xun risked his life to climb over the wall to rescue her, she still expressed her concern for Gu Zhi.

Feeling guilty, Ruan Yi raised her hand and gently stroked the man's tense nape. Her fingertips ran through his sweaty hair and slowly touched the back of his head, offering a gentle comfort.

Then she tilted her head back slightly and gently returned his kiss with her soft, moist lips.

Unlike the man's rough kiss, the girl's kiss was light and soft, yet it instantly extinguished the flames in his heart.

Chen Xun's movements suddenly stopped.

He could clearly feel the warmth of her fingertips, the softness of her taking the initiative to approach, and her body no longer resisting.

This was the first time Ruan Yi had treated him like this.

With comfort, with... perhaps the tenderness he had longed for for a long time.

The anger in my chest deflated like a punctured balloon, leaving only a dense, aching feeling and palpitations.

The man's kiss gradually softened, the harshness of punishment fading, replaced by a tender and aggrieved expression.

He gently licked her bitten lips with his tongue, feeling heartache and regret. He loosened his grip, but held her tighter in his arms, as if to confirm that she was real and safe.

He lost, he lost completely from the very beginning.

He always thought he was tough and resolute enough, and that as long as there was a marriage contract, he could keep her.

In the end, it was just her initiative that made him crumble.

His joys and sorrows, his reason and madness, had long been firmly under Ruan Yi's control. Even he himself was unwilling to admit it, yet he had no choice but to face this fact.

If Ruan Yi doesn't want to marry him, all she has to do is cry.

He couldn't do anything about her...

The person in his arms was still trembling slightly. He lowered his head, pressed his forehead against hers, and his voice was terribly hoarse.

"...Don't mention him again."

The man slowly released her, his fingertips gently brushing against her lips, which were reddened from the kiss. A few drops of blood seeped out, a trace of his loss of control, which stood out starkly against her soft pink lips.

His Adam's apple bobbed, his eyes darkened, and just as he was about to speak, his gaze suddenly fell on her hand.

The palm was covered with tiny cuts that were still oozing blood, and there were several extremely fine, reflective shards of glass embedded in the flesh, which was enough to make one's scalp tingle.

Shen Xun's eyes widened instantly, a surge of anger rising within him, his voice tightening.

"Did he do it?"

“No…” Ruan Yi withdrew her hand.

"I broke the mirror and cut the rope myself."

Shen Xun seemed not to hear him, his jawline taut and his eyes blazing with anger.

In any case, Ruan Yi's injuries were entirely due to Gu Zhi.

Without saying another word, Shen Xun turned and walked to the insulating suit by the wall, then picked up a heavy pair of wire cutters.

Reaching the iron gate, he raised his hand and clamped the wire cutters onto the lock cylinder, then exerted force with his arm.

In the instant the muscles bulged, clear lines rose beneath the sleeves, exuding a fierce explosive power.

A dull snapping sound rang out, and in just a few moments, the stubborn padlock was cut in two, the barbed edges gleaming coldly.

Just then, bursts of gunfire erupted outside the courtyard.

The sounds of "bang bang bang" continued in rapid succession, even more urgent and intense than before.

Ruan Yi's heart clenched suddenly, her fingertips went cold, and she felt as if something was stuck in her throat.

She dared not ask any more questions, but she couldn't help praying in her heart that the owner of that name would live.

She herself found it absurd, but her heart kept pounding with the sound of gunfire.

"Let's go first." Shen Xun grabbed Ruan Yi's uninjured wrist with unwavering force.

Before Ruan Yi was ready, he dragged her out of the courtyard. They had only run a few steps out of the villa area when the man suddenly bent down and picked her up in his arms.

"I can walk by myself."

Ruan Yi struggled for a moment, and the wound on her palm was pulled painfully.

"Shut up." The man's tone was deep and stern, but he carefully avoided touching her injured hand.

He steadily supported her knees with his arms and strode into the darkness.

The wind whistled in my ears, and my heavy heartbeat and body temperature could be heard through my clothes.

Before they had gone very far, a piercing engine roar suddenly came from behind, and a blinding beam of light swept over them, almost blinding them.

Immediately following was the sharp screech of tires screeching against the ground, as a black sedan drifted sideways with reckless abandon, screeching to a halt a few meters in front of them, its body sideways, blocking their path.

The car door opened, and a figure slowly stepped out.

The moonlight fell on his high, straight nose.

The man had a smile on his lips, but his eyes were as cold as ice as he looked at Ruan Yi, who was being held in his arms, and let out a sigh.

The pistol he was holding was no longer the one he had before.

Instead, it was a heavy machine gun, its barrel gleaming with a cold, hard metallic sheen.

Those were clearly weapons standard issue for mercenaries; they were obviously stolen from the other side.

"Sister, where are we going?"

"If you're leaving, take me with you."
