Chapter 76 Criteria for Choosing a Spouse
Ruan Yi only breathed a sigh of relief after entering the villa's courtyard; the situation in the car had been incredibly awkward.
If she stays any longer, she'll scratch the leather seats to shreds.
As soon as I stepped into the courtyard, I saw Assistant Li, who was carrying two large, bulging bags.
"Assistant Ruan! President Fu, you've arrived home just in time."
Assistant Li smiled and handed the bag to Ruan Yi. The transparent bag revealed the round outline of a milk tea cup and a box printed with cake patterns.
Ruan Yi was stunned for a moment, and was about to reach out to take them when Fu Jingchen reached out from the side and steadily took both bags away.
He pressed his knuckles against the bag's opening, revealing it was stuffed full, containing not only milk tea but also several kinds of small cakes and many snack boxes.
"Ah, thank you, Assistant!"
Ruan Yi realized what was happening and quickly bowed to Assistant Li, reaching out to shake his hand.
How could someone be so kind? She was just feeling down, and sweets and drinks were delivered to her door.
"Wow! You're so kind! It's such a trouble for you to make this special trip."
Assistant Li was honest and, with a silly grin, extended his hand, saying, "No trouble at all, it's nothing..."
Before she could finish speaking, the girl's wrist was grabbed by someone nearby and pulled to one side.
The man grabbed Ruan Yi's wrist and pulled her back slightly, his brows furrowed as he glanced at Assistant Li.
"Put your things down, you can go back now."
He then turned to look at Ruan Yi, who looked completely bewildered, and deliberately emphasized his tone.
"I asked him to buy it."
"I almost got my credit stolen again..."
Ruan Yi blinked, looking at Fu Jingchen's serious expression that said this matter had nothing to do with anyone else, and suddenly felt like laughing.
Why emphasize it so much? It's just embarrassing.
"Oh, thank you."
Upon entering the living room, Ruan Yi made no attempt to stand on ceremony, immediately opening the bag and pulling out a cup of mango pomelo sago.
The taste of home! The pent-up frustration I felt earlier seems to have dissipated a bit.
The man sat down next to her and slowly helped her unpack the remaining boxes.
First, I opened a box of steaming hot egg waffles, and a sweet aroma mixed with the smell of eggs wafted out. Then I opened a cardboard box, and there were round takoyaki balls squeezed together, sprinkled with bonito flakes and seaweed flakes. There were also two boxes of brown sugar glutinous rice cakes coated with soybean powder.
I specifically chose Chinese food, since Ruan Yi's aversion to Western food was quite a blow to someone.
The man pushed the takoyaki closer to her, and seeing her cheeks puffed out from sucking on her milk tea, his eyes softened involuntarily.
Ruan Yi forked one small meatball after another and stuffed them into her mouth, speaking indistinctly, "Thanks."
Fu Jingchen's gaze fell on the box of takoyaki on the coffee table, which still had two pieces left. One of them had a faint tooth mark on the edge, indicating that Ruan Yi had just taken a bite.
Without saying a word, he reached out and touched the little ball with the teeth marks.
"Oh, I've already eaten this."
Ruan Yi quickly snatched the box away and pushed a box of unopened small cakes next to it in front of him.
"You should eat this new one; it's cleaner."
The moment his fingertips missed their mark, the man's brow furrowed uncontrollably.
The pent-up anger in his heart rose silently again. He had already clearly confessed his feelings twice, but she still resisted his approach.
She always took his seriousness as a joke and his approach as madness. All he did was eat what she left behind.
In her eyes, they were so distant that they couldn't even have this much intimacy.
What can she do to truly believe him?
Before Ruan Yi could retract her hand, the man had already taken the small meatball with teeth marks from her hand again and put it into his mouth without hesitation.
The octopus's elasticity seemed to still carry her faint scent, which calmed the slight irritation in his heart.
Ruan Yi stared at him, her eyes wide, as if she had seen some rare and exotic creature.
Why does this person like to eat other people's leftovers?
Fu Jingchen didn't explain, he just quietly watched her taste this and that like a hamster.
As Ruan Yi put down her milk tea cup and wiped her mouth with a tissue, the man suddenly spoke, his voice low and deep.
What are Xiaoyi's criteria for choosing a partner?
He wanted to know, since Ruan Yi didn't like him now...
Then he would gradually become the kind of person she would be attracted to.
Ruan Yi was swallowing the last sip of milk tea when she was suddenly asked this question, and she choked and coughed violently.
His face was red from coughing, and he frantically patted his chest.
Fu Jingchen subconsciously leaned over and raised his hand to pat her back, his fingertips just about to touch her shoulder.
Ruan Yi jerked back as if she had been burned, almost sliding off the sofa.
The air seemed to freeze instantly, and the man slowly withdrew his hand, which had been suspended in mid-air, his fingertips icy cold.
Just as Ruan Yi caught her breath and was about to say something to break the eerie silence, her waist was suddenly gripped by an irresistible force.
The next second, in a dizzying moment, she was pulled into Fu Jingchen's arms and sat steadily on his lap.
Ruan Yi was so frightened that her soul almost flew away. Her cheeks flushed red like tomatoes, and she tried to break free using both her hands and feet.
"Fu Jingchen! Let me go!"
But the man's arms were like iron hoops around her waist, tightening even more the more she struggled, until his chest was pressed tightly against her back, and she could hear his steady, powerful heartbeat.
"It's always like this."
Only by using this almost coercive method can I get her closer to me.
He was well aware of how absurd and unhealthy his current thoughts were.
But looking into her perpetually distant eyes and feeling her subconscious resistance, he couldn't control himself.
If things continued like this, he feared he would really go crazy and do something even more out of control. Those suppressed thoughts of wanting to completely imprison her grew wildly in the darkness.
Ruan Yi reacted in a panic, raising her hand halfway to strike someone, but abruptly stopped in mid-air.
No, I really can't slap him like that. I can't afford to slap someone of that status.
Ruan Yi could only clench her fists, her voice filled with anger.
"What exactly do you want?!"
His resolve was already unstable, and then he pulled this stunt.
The person in his arms was still trembling slightly. Fu Jingchen lowered his head, his nose almost touching the top of her head.
His eyes churned with a rare look of hurt, even a hint of barely perceptible grievance, and his voice was terribly hoarse.
"I've said it twice already."
Ruan Yi froze.
“But if Xiaoyi wants to hear it, I will say it a third time, a fourth time, a fifth time…”
He paused, tightening his grip on her as if trying to melt her, each word, clear and burning hot, striking her ear.
" I like you."
This time, Ruan Yi completely lost her composure.
Once and again.
The stubbornness and pain in the man's eyes were so real that she could no longer deceive herself into thinking it was a joke or a passing fancy.
He had tried his best to restrain himself, but his feelings had already fermented into something deeper in his heart.
It was the urge to protect her under my wings, the concern that I couldn't bear to see her suffer any injustice, and a desire that I could hardly control.
But in the end, he only said "I like it".
He knew all too well that, given Ruan Yi's current wariness of him, if he rashly uttered "I love you," she would only take it as an even more absurd and crazy statement.
This word is too heavy for her to bear, and she wouldn't believe it anyway.
So he restrained himself, suppressing the emotions that were about to overflow onto his tongue.
I only picked a word that she might be able to barely digest.
As he expected, the girl wasn't so easily accepted.
"Don't like it!"
