Chapter 62Kane

Chapter 62Kane

Ruan Yi stood in front of the full-length mirror, her fingertips tracing the edge of the V-neck of her dress.

The burgundy velvet dress hugged her curves, with a high slit in the skirt, revealing skin that shimmered with a delicate glow under the light, a sight that even she herself found somewhat exaggerated.

It seems a little too sexy.

She took a deep breath and opened the door, only to meet the man's gaze.

His face remained expressionless, still displaying his calm and composed demeanor.

But that gaze was like a scorching net, sweeping over her inch by inch from her slightly curled hair to her exposed collarbone, and then to the skin that was faintly visible through the slit in her skirt, almost taut with restraint.

Is this how they sized her up? They actually copied her "mean girl" skills... What a copycat!

The man's gaze was too intense, and Ruan Yi's cheeks flushed slightly, but she refused to show weakness.

She met his gaze, deliberately raised her chin, and slowly looked him up and down.

The suit accentuated her broad shoulders and narrow waist, making her appear even more upright. Her Adam's apple bobbed clearly, and even her fingers had distinct knuckles, exuding an indescribable sexiness.

When Ruan Yi's gaze shifted to his lower abdomen, she lingered for a couple of seconds, her eyes clearly saying, "That's it?" Those two words were deliberately meant to disgust the man.

Fu Jingchen suddenly chuckled. He realized that the girl in front of him had obviously misunderstood something, probably thinking that he was provoking her.

However, the girl's provocative retaliation seemed to have been poorly timed, considering her location...

There, he was exceptionally gifted.

The man looked at her with a smile in his eyes, his thin lips slightly parted.

"Xiao Yi, it looks great."

Ruan Yi was taken aback by the straightforward praise and didn't know how to respond, watching him walk forward.

The man raised his hand, and Ruan Yi subconsciously shrank back, thinking he was going to touch her.

He simply took a black mask and gently placed it on her face.

The mask was adorned with delicate lace, covering most of her face except for her round chin and pink lips.

The man's fingertips brushed against her earlobe unintentionally, giving her a strange sensation, and Ruan Yi couldn't help but shrink back.

"Tonight is a masquerade dinner for the Anderson family."

His voice was right next to my ear, carrying a faint scent of cedar: "The theme is 'honesty under anonymity'."

"A masquerade ball?" Ruan Yi blinked, her tone filled with curiosity.

These foreigners were more pretentious than she had imagined.

"If we're talking about cooperation, how can we talk when everyone's wearing masks and we can't recognize each other?"

Fu Jingchen was helping her tidy up the stray hairs that were caught on her mask when he heard this, he paused, a hint of a smile flashing in his eyes.

“A person who really wants to do business can find the right person even if they only show their eyes.”

He ran his fingertips through the strands of hair behind Ruan Yi's ear.

"However, the mask is really just a gimmick."

Ruan Yi watched him put on the mask. The black mask covered the upper half of his face, leaving only his straight nose and tightly pursed thin lips.

Seriously... even with a mask on, you can tell this guy is ridiculously handsome.

The dinner was held in an open-air banquet hall by the sea, with crystal chandeliers hanging among the coconut palms, and the sound of waves and jazz music blending together.

Ruan Yi followed Fu Jingchen and felt many eyes on her as soon as she entered the venue.

Mostly because of her Eastern face, even with a mask on, the contours of her eyes and eyebrows couldn't hide her Eastern gentleness, making her stand out from the sharp blonde hair and blue eyes around her.

“Over here.” Fu Jingchen suddenly reached out and put his arm around her waist, his fingertips gently resting on her waistline.

The man pulled her closer to him, lowering his voice.

"Asian women are easily approached here, so this makes things easier."

Ruan Yi was stunned for a moment, then realized that what he said made sense, so she obediently followed him.

She didn't notice that the man's fingers on her waist tightened slightly, and even began to gently rub against her.

Just as Fu Jingchen said, even though he was wearing a mask, quite a few people still recognized him.

One by one, men in suits gathered around with wine glasses, conversing in English with various accents from different countries, discussing everything from stock market trends to new energy investments.

Ruan Yi stepped behind him and listened quietly.

Fu Jingchen speaks slowly, but he always manages to capture the key points with a single sentence at crucial moments, responding flawlessly and with complete ease.

Ruan Yi couldn't help but sigh inwardly, even if he might be a lunatic or a pervert, his talent in business was indeed unmatched.

Ruan Yi picked up a glass of non-alcoholic fruit wine, took a sip, and secretly rejoiced.

Thank goodness for this, otherwise, with Fu Jingchen's terrible alcohol tolerance, he probably would have gotten drunk after just a few words.

I have to hold her and rub her against me everywhere, calling for my mom.

Abroad, I can't afford to lose face like that!

But the girl didn't notice that the man was holding a glass of amber-colored whiskey, so strong it was almost scalding.

Just as I was listening to him discuss a collaboration with an Italian businessman, I suddenly heard hurried footsteps behind me.

Ruan Yi lost her balance and was lightly bumped, causing her body to sway to the side.

She hurriedly tried to steady herself on the nearby table, but her wrist was gently hooked and pulled back with a force.

"Madam, be careful."

A clear male voice rang in my ears, and it felt somewhat familiar.

After Ruan Yi steadied herself and looked up, she met a pair of exceptionally beautiful eyes.

She was a blonde waitress in a white uniform, spoke politely, and seemed very professional.

Ruan Yi's heart skipped a beat at those eyes.

It looks a bit like... wait, that's impossible.

He's still recovering in the hospital, how could he possibly be here, dressed as a waiter? The young master doesn't have time to come out and experience life.

"Thank you." Ruan Yi replied softly after regaining her senses, smiled politely, and took half a step back.

The man's eyes glazed over when he heard the girl's voice, and he stood there for a while before hurriedly letting go.

"You're welcome."

Ruan Yi looked at his reddened ears and found it amusing that he was actually shy.

However, since he wasn't the person she was thinking of, Ruan Yi turned back to listen to Fu Jingchen's conversation.

"Kane! We need help here!"

Another waiter called out from not far away.

His companion's shouts broke his frozen gaze.

He snapped back to reality, his knuckles still warm from where he had touched the girl's wrist.

He had to let go, but his feet seemed nailed to the spot, and his gaze, like a rooted vine, clung tightly to her back.

The wine-red skirt swayed gently with her movements, revealing slender and smooth leg lines at the slit, which shimmered in the light.

The girl was listening intently to the man beside her, the curve of her profile accentuated by the mask, and even her pouting expression of confusion matched that afternoon in her memory.

My heart was pounding wildly in my chest, making my ribs ache.

What alarmed him even more was the uncontrollable tension in a certain part of his body, which he couldn't suppress at all and felt like it was about to explode.

After all, the moment I saw her, all my senses were captivated.

He never expected to see a girl here.

It was so beautiful, so beautiful that he felt like he was dreaming.

But the warmth and scent he craved reminded him that this was reality, and his blood began to boil.

"Kane?" the colleague called out again.

The moment he turned around, his gaze remained fixed on her until it was blocked by the crowd, at which point he gritted his teeth and forced himself to look away.

The redness behind her ears had spread to her neck, and even her breathing was trembling.

The body and heart recognized her even before the eyes; the moment she appeared, the body surrendered and crumbled.

His name is Kane? Ruan Yi looked at the man's back, and the inexplicable sense of familiarity in her heart faded a little.

Sure enough, it wasn't his name. Ruan Yi sighed softly, feeling a little disappointed.

"Don't you like it here?"

Fu Jingchen's voice suddenly rang in her ears. He had ended the conversation at some point and was staring straight at her with a probing look in his eyes.

Ruan Yi snapped out of her daze and shook her head.

"No, it's quite lively."

"If you don't like it, we can leave early."

He spoke in a flat tone, as if he were talking about something trivial.

"It's okay to cancel the rest of the conversation."

For him, the partners who surrounded him, the business cards they handed him, and the carefully worded negotiations were all just procedures.

Her emotions were the only thing he cared about.
