Chapter 36 The King of Recoil Control

Chapter 36 The King of Recoil Control

Amid the regular beeping of the electrocardiogram monitor, Fu Wang, his hand wrapped in gauze, fumbled for his cell phone hidden under his pillow.

He got it by asking for it the very first second after he regained consciousness.

After being transferred to the Heart Medical Center, this was the first time he had avoided the sight of medical staff.

The moment the screen lit up, the smell of disinfectant seemed to fade a bit. Fu Wang unconsciously ran his fingertips over the cracks left on the screen by the car accident.

A new message popped up in the white dialog box after the network was connected.

"I will be your real girlfriend." These ten simple words drew the man's attention to the screen, like a soft feather gently tickling his heart.

The man's Adam's apple bobbed, his lips curled up uncontrollably, and his heart pounded uncontrollably in his chest.

He even ignored the dull pain in his body, his mind and eyes filled only with that sentence burning in his heart.

"Beep—!" A sharp alarm suddenly tore through the air.

Fu Wang jolted, only then realizing that the monitor's readings were fluctuating wildly. A dizzying sensation, accompanied by a spike in blood pressure, struck without warning, but he didn't stop grinning foolishly at his phone screen.

A series of hurried footsteps sounded as Fu Wang's attending physician rushed in and snatched the phone from his hand.

Stern English reprimands mingled with the incessant sirens blaring into his ears.

"Diastolic blood pressure too high, prepare an anti-blocker immediately!" The doctor's eyes were fixed on the ever-increasing numbers on the monitor.

"Your current condition is very dangerous; any sudden increase in blood pressure could rupture the remaining outer membrane of your blood vessels."

The doctor glanced down at the screen.

"Still busy dating? Every time your heart races, it's like you're inserting a bomb into your aortic dissection!"

The nurse quickly turned the IV regulator to its maximum setting, but the cool sensation of the medication being injected into his veins couldn't outweigh the burning intensity in his eyes.

Those unanswered words are destined to come at the cost of a racing heart, brewing into burning anticipation in the chest.

It turns out that at this moment, when one is teetering on the edge of life and death, all it takes is a single, lightly spoken word.

You can then taste something sweeter than painkillers.

It was already past midnight, and Ruan Yi was curled up in bed, holding her phone.

She already had some dark circles under her eyes, and at some point, she opened her chat box with Fu Wang again.

"I'm sorry..." The darkness amplified her emotions, and the vicious female supporting character began her late-night confession.

The last message sent still glowed with a soft green light.

Suddenly, a message popped up above the chat window: "The other party is typing..." Ruan Yi's breath caught in her throat, and her phone nearly hit her face.

Her heart pounded in her chest. She stared at the small print, not daring to blink. Three seconds, five seconds, seven seconds—the text at the top disappeared, leaving only the note Ruan Yi had left for him: 'Big Golden Retriever'.

I don't mean to say he's a dog, it's just that Ruan Yi thinks his hair is really nice to touch.

Ruan Yi typed with trembling hands, "Fu Wang, are you alright?" The moment she pressed the button, a crisp send tone rang out in the silent room.

The chat window remained silent. Ruan Yi buried her face in the blanket, the soft fabric slowly becoming damp.

Sure enough, it was just an illusion caused by my eyes.

She not only harmed Fu Wang, but also had no way to break off her engagement with Shen Xun. Was she destined to marry Shen Xun for the rest of her life?

Haha... You're dreaming. The most likely scenario is that you'll die before you even live half your life.

The suffocating feeling of being trapped in a prison cell enveloped the girl.

These feelings do not stem from Chen Xun, but from this world that could strike her down at any moment.

In the quiet corridor, faint sobs could be heard, and a dark figure had been standing in front of the girl's room door for a long time.

There was a soft knock on the door, and a man's voice, gentle and concerned, asked, "Sister?"

The sobbing inside the room stopped abruptly, and silence fell.

The man's lips curled up slightly, and he knocked on the door twice more, his tone tinged with helplessness.

"Sister, I'm going in."

The door opened slowly, and the man walked lightly to the bedside, turning on a dim nightlight. The soft glow gradually spread in the darkness.

On the bed, the bulging blankets stirred slightly, and Ruan Yi cautiously peeked out, her hair disheveled.

The soft light of the nightlight fell on the girl's reddened eyes, trembling eyelashes, and glistening lips. Her cheeks still bore faint marks from the pillow, making her look as soft as an injured kitten.

"Damn..." He regretted coming in.

The heart-melting scenes have long lost their meaning in a man's eyes; every move a girl makes is alluring to him.

Gu Zhi felt that when he was with Ruan Yi, he absolutely deserved the title of "King of Recoil Control".

Ruan Yi blinked, her wet gaze meeting his, and for some reason felt a little guilty.

He sighed softly, bent his knees and sat down on the edge of the bed, the soft edge of the bed sinking slightly under his weight.

"Isn't he a fake boyfriend? Why are you so sad, sister?" The tone was gentle and concerned, but it concealed an undeniable question.

"How could you say that... Even if he was just helping out in an act, he's still my friend." The voice trailed off.

"A friend? Why are you making my sister cry so sadly?"

Gu Zhi casually slipped his hand under the covers, and deliberately paused when he touched her ankle, which was tense from curling up.

Ruan Yi flinched in fright, trying to pull her ankle back, her voice tinged with startled naiveté, "What are you doing..."

He controlled the girl's movements with just a little force, holding her ankle with his warm palm and pulling her closer.

He suddenly tightened his grip, pulling her foot into his palm, his thumb rubbing the soft pads of her sole.

"Her feet were as cold as ice, yet she stubbornly lied."

Realizing that Gu Zhi only wanted to warm her feet and that she couldn't break free, she let him be.

As his warm palm rubbed against her, the girl's toes gradually curled up, creating a slight ticklish sensation as they rubbed against his palm.

"I'm not lying. Of course I'd be heartbroken if my friend had such a serious accident! If Ah Zhi were in that situation, he would react the same way."

"Yeah?"

Friends are nothing more than a carefully crafted facade, a performance one has to put on. Those insincere pleasantries are nothing more than a cold, routine part of life for him.

Only when he is by her side does his silent heart begin to beat truly.

Would she be moved to tears by the suffering of others? What a tender heart, what clumsy kindness, what a sister!

"It makes one want to defile it even more."

The warmth of the man's palm gradually seeped into every inch of her skin, and her originally icy feet were now warm.

Ruan Yi yawned contentedly.

Gu Zhi gently put her feet back under the covers and tucked them in. "Sleep well, sister. Goodnight."

The man's voice was deep; the moment his fingertips extinguished the nightlight, darkness enveloped the room.

After he finished speaking, he stood motionless by the bed, staring at the vague outlines between the blankets, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed all his desires.

In her dark pupils, like the spitting tongue of a venomous snake, they tightly coiled around her curled-up figure.
