Chapter 41 Sister Complex
The three men watched helplessly as the girl closed her eyes, her legs went weak, and she fell straight to the side.
Her head landed squarely in Gu Zhi's warm embrace.
"Hiss—" Ruan Yi almost broke down in pain, her eyelashes trembling, and she bit her lower lip hard to suppress her cry of pain.
She quietly lifted her eyelids and peeked through the gap in her eyelashes, just in time to meet Fu Jingchen's eyes, which seemed to be smiling but not smiling.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly closed her eyes. As she tilted her head, the tip of her nose brushed against Gu Zhi's collarbone, and she heard a soft chuckle coming from the man's chest.
"Sister... what kind of skill is this?" Gu Zhi's voice came from above, and Ruan Yi felt her head being gently rubbed.
Of course, it's her ultimate move, a life-saving technique taught to her by Lin Han—feigning unconsciousness.
Ruan Yi was struggling with whether to continue acting when she felt a hand that didn't belong to Gu Zhi approach.
Shen Xun leaned closer, his long, slender fingers pinching Ruan Yi's flushed cheek.
"Are you really dizzy? Then come home with me."
Gu Zhi suddenly tightened his arms, his gaze sweeping over Chen Xun's hands, and hugged the girl in his arms even tighter.
"Go home? You're not qualified."
The man narrowed his eyes slightly and gently rubbed Ruan Yi's cheek, which he had pinched, with his fingertips.
He's not calling me "brother" anymore. Looks like he's quitting acting.
Shen Xun slowly straightened up and took a half step back.
“Alright, take her back to the Ruan family—brother-in-law.” He emphasized the last three words, his eyes full of undisguised mockery.
The man's gentle expression instantly turned cold, his aura changed drastically, his jaw tightened, and the veins on his arm holding Ruan Yi throbbed.
"It's too early to say."
His Adam's apple bobbed twice, as if he was suppressing something, and the fierce anger surging in his eyes was almost overflowing, but he was firmly restrained.
"You can pray and see if that day ever comes."
The man steadily picked up the girl and walked away.
Watching the two figures leave, Fu Jingchen slowly straightened his cuffs, his eyes sweeping over Shen Xun's suddenly darkened face, a mocking smile curving his thin lips.
"Mr. Shen, as a businessman, the most taboo thing is to open champagne halfway through the event."
His thick eyebrows furrowed instantly, veins bulged down his neck, and the sound of his teeth clenching could even be heard.
Seeing how easily the other party was provoked, Fu Jingchen chuckled with pleasure.
"Before you provoke me next time, do your homework first—the 'brother-in-law' you think he is has never intended to treat you as his brother-in-law."
With a hint of nonchalant malice in his words, he turned and left.
The man stared at Fu Jingchen's departing figure, a cold laugh escaping his throat.
The next second, his aura suddenly became violent, and he kicked the half-full metal bucket next to him hard. With a loud bang, the bucket flew seven or eight meters away and crashed heavily into the corner of the wall, leaving several cracks on the wall.
It's clear that Fu Jingchen wasn't lying.
What's wrong with Gu Zhi? Is he secretly a sister-complex?
Is she just a sister-complex, or...?
The man's heavy breathing gradually subsided as he stared at the twisted metal wreckage on the ground.
He recalled how the boy would always lower his eyes and agree whenever he asked Gu Zhi to pass something over, his eyes devoid of any emotion.
The man's laughter, tinged with a self-deprecating sneer, came from his throat.
"Damn it, I can't have—gotten ripped off."
Ruan Yi tilted her head in the passenger seat, still maintaining an extremely deliberate posture of pretending to be asleep.
The man chuckled silently, then suddenly grabbed her drooping wrist, ignoring the girl's stiff movements, and pulled her entire forearm in front of him.
The moment the disinfectant swab touched the wound, it was clear that the girl's shoulder tensed up sharply.
Should we continue pretending to be asleep? Well...
Gu Zhi lowered his eyes, his warm fingertips coated with ointment, but deliberately avoided the abrasions, slowly rubbing upwards from the inside of her delicate wrist.
When the fingertips, coated with cooling ointment, brushed against the sensitive area on the inside of her elbow like feathers, the girl let out a soft moan of ticklishness.
He suddenly leaned closer, and without warning, gently blew on the wound that still smelled of medicine.
The man's breath sprayed onto the sensitive abrasions, and a tingling sensation spread along his skin.
Gu Zhi's fingers inadvertently brushed against the softest skin on the inside of her arm, with a subtle, almost imperceptible caress.
Ruan Yi felt all the blood rushing to her ears, her toes curling up inside her shoes as she struggled to resist the urge to pull her arm away.
Ahhh, it itches so much! No, she hasn't figured out how to explain this yet!
Gu Zhi looked at the girl's reddened earlobes, a smile curving his lips, and ultimately let her go.
After fastening her seatbelt, I started the car smoothly.
Ruan Yi thought she should just put it up like this and go home; maybe then she wouldn't need to explain.
She froze when the car came to a steady stop at the red light and she felt a warm breath on her ear.
"Sister, if you keep pretending to be asleep, I'm going to tickle you."
Ruan Yi's eyelashes trembled twice, and she secretly squinted her eyes, instantly seeing the gentle yet helpless smile on the man's lips reflected in them.
Ruan Yi suddenly opened her eyes, her mouth drooping, and turned her head to ask seriously, "Am I pretending to be very obviously fake?"
Gu Zhi raised an eyebrow at her, then turned back to continue driving. "No, your acting is completely natural."
Under Ruan Yi's expectant gaze, he slowly finished the second half of the sentence, "Especially the part where he precisely staged an accident and fell into my arms, that deserves an Oscar."
"How dare you make fun of me!" Ruan Yi angrily reached out and slapped his thigh hard.
The man groaned as he was hit.
"The fight's over, the act's done, now is my sister willing to explain herself to me?"
Ruan Yi froze, then gave a dry laugh.
"Actually, working at Fu Jingchen's company is quite good, and you can really learn a lot! Things like business negotiation and project planning..."
Ruan Yi spoke softer and softer, until her voice completely disappeared from her throat under Gu Zhi's gaze.
"Oh dear, I know Ah Zhi is worried about me, but I really want to learn more, all for our family's future. I will earn money to support my family!"
She needs to earn money to support her family.
Their home...is it their home?
Countless images flashed through my mind—
A soft, cuddly figure was curled up in the crib, and as she straightened her collar and went out, he could openly lean down and kiss her lips.
In the steaming heat of the kitchen, he would wear a cartoon apron and cook for her and the children, and when he turned around, he would catch her smiling face as she leaned against the door frame.
And... much, much more, so wonderful that he dared not even think about it.
The man's warm breaths unconsciously grew heavier; just imagining it was enough to make his soul tremble.
The pressure on his feet unconsciously increased.
"Why are you driving so fast? Slow down!"
The girl's panicked accusations reached his ears, and he lowered his eyes, hiding the turbulent undercurrent in them.
"I'm sorry, I startled you."
He slowed down, his fingertips rubbing the steering wheel.
One day, these scenes will surely come true.
"I'm fine, stop apologizing."
Ruan Yi's tone was somewhat helpless.
"You haven't agreed yet. I'll put my safety first. No one can bully me. If you're worried... I'll let you know anytime, okay?"
Silence fell over the car, broken only by Gu Zhi's deliberately softened tone, which carried a hint of barely perceptible compromise.
"Sister, please think it over again. If you really want to stay there, please report it on time."
Ruan Yi's eyes lit up instantly, and she patted his arm happily, "Okay, okay, I promise!"
The scenery outside the car window flashed by in an instant.
The girl in the passenger seat held her phone, grumbling and showing off what she had learned, and reporting her itinerary for the next few days.
She wouldn't notice the man's hands gripping the steering wheel...
It was much harder than before.
