Chapter 124 Kidney
Pei Lian lowered his eyes and said nothing more.
Silence slowly spread through the air.
Ruan Yi didn't know what to say for a moment.
She swallowed back the words of comfort that were on the tip of her tongue, knowing full well that any kind words at that moment could be misunderstood.
Moreover, the man in front of her was both her friend and Fu Jingchen's friend; any overstepping of the line would lead to an awkward situation.
So she also chose to remain silent, letting the quiet in the air continue to permeate.
At that moment, the door to the examination room was pushed open, and Dr. Smith walked in.
Pei Lian stood up, his face expressionless, his tone flat.
"Then I won't disturb you while you're doing your checkup."
He turned and walked to the examination table, tapping lightly with his fingertips the documents that had been placed on the table during their conversation, and added.
"Let's stick with Plan B for the research project. We can talk about it again later when we have time."
Ruan Yi was taken aback for a moment, assuming it was just a discussion among the doctors about their work.
Before turning to leave, the man stopped and his gaze swept heavily over the girl.
That gaze was nothing like the gentle and considerate look of her former suitors; instead, it carried a dangerous stare, sliding from the ends of her hair down her cheeks, neck, and down her soft, undulating curves.
Dr. Smith stood to the side, his face somewhat stiff, and responded in a low voice.
"Okay, I will follow the plan."
Ruan Yi glanced back at the man's long legs as he strode away decisively.
After she made everything clear, Pei Lian's smile vanished, his expression as if it had been erased, leaving only a cold blank.
This makes one wonder if the gentle, smiling man of the past was merely trying to please her.
This cold, emotionless person is the real him; even his tone when saying goodbye was icy, as if he were devoid of feeling.
"Miss Ruan, what's wrong?"
Seeing that she was lost in thought, Dr. Smith asked softly.
Ruan Yi snapped out of her reverie at the doctor's question and shook her head. "It's nothing."
Dr. Smith didn't ask any more questions, but simply took out a few forms from the drawer and handed them to her.
"This is the checklist. Just go to the corresponding department according to the items on the list. The nurse at the door will guide you."
Ruan Yi nodded, took the project form, and got up to leave.
The first few tests went smoothly. Private hospitals are usually less crowded, and with no need to queue, they were completed quickly.
The nurse who accompanied Ruan Yi throughout the process was gentle and took very good care of her, which relaxed her somewhat nervous nerves a lot.
Only the urine test remained, but Ruan Yi didn't feel the urge to urinate at that moment.
The nurse brought her a large glass of warm water.
"Please drink slowly, no rush. You can take a sample when you feel the effects."
As he spoke, he placed the necessary supplies for the urine test on the table next to him.
Ruan Yi sat in the chair, sipping water slowly, waiting patiently.
But for some reason, as I drank more and more water, the urge to urinate had just begun to arise when the drowsiness surged even more fiercely like a tide.
She rubbed her eyes and muttered to herself.
Could it be that Fu Jingchen kept her from getting enough sleep?
Just as I was thinking of cursing him, my eyelids grew heavier and heavier, almost sticking together.
Just when I was about to give up, the nurse from before came over, her voice sounding exceptionally gentle.
"Madam, are you very sleepy?"
The words hadn't even fully reached his ears yet.
His mind completely lost consciousness, and his eyelids closed heavily.
At the hospital entrance.
The man's eyes were fixed on the location information on his phone screen.
Ruan Yi didn't reply to his messages, so he had to use special methods to locate the device and pinpoint the hospital, and he rushed over immediately.
But this private hospital operates on an appointment-only basis, and he was afraid that going in rashly would upset her and could harm the baby.
Fu Wang then waited outside.
The location was initially moving slightly, but suddenly stopped moving at some point.
After waiting for a long time, Ruan Yi did not appear, and the location remained unchanged.
Just as the man was getting a little anxious, the not-so-sensitive positioning suddenly started to jump around dramatically, and the movement was very fast.
Fu Wang's heart tightened, and he immediately looked around, but he couldn't see the girl at all.
The man rushed into the hospital clutching his phone, but after circling the lobby, he couldn't even spot Ruan Yi.
Without thinking twice, the man's fingertips flew across the screen, dialing Ruan Yi's number.
The receiver kept ringing, each ring making his heart race.
"You bad woman! Answer the phone..."
He prayed softly, but there was no sound from her until the ringtone automatically ended.
Fu Wangxin tensed up and immediately typed it a second time.
This time, the phone rang only once before being interrupted by a cold, mechanical voice: "The number you dialed is currently switched off."
He looked up sharply, and when he looked at the location where the jump had occurred, the light spot on the screen had indeed disappeared, leaving only the last position it had been.
It is a road leading to the suburbs.
An ominous premonition instantly crept up the back of my neck.
He rushed out of the hospital, got into the car, and Fu Wang's hands were still trembling slightly.
Ruan Yi didn't travel with anyone, nor did she reply to messages...
I hope she won't do anything rash because of this unplanned pregnancy!
"It's just a child!"
No matter how many children he has, or whose surname they take, as long as they come from Ruan Yi's belly, it's all the same. He's ready to be a good father!
The man gritted his teeth, his eyes uncontrollably reddening.
He slammed on the gas pedal, and the car shot off like an arrow, speeding towards the last direction shown by the GPS. He was filled with anxiety.
Ruan Yi felt as if she were sinking in water and slowly rising to the surface.
My eyelids felt so heavy, like they were glued on, and it took some effort to pry them open even a crack.
A slight coolness first enters the senses; it's not a bone-chilling cold, but more like a precisely temperature-controlled coolness, evenly enveloping the skin.
The environment was so clean and quiet that she could hear herself breathing. The smell in the air inexplicably reminded her of a sterile operating room in a hospital.
Isn't she having a check-up?
But now… she moved her fingers, and the surface felt like a hard metal table.
With another pull, a feeling of restraint came from my wrists, and I realized that my hands and feet were tied to the table with wide straps.
"Holy crap?!"
Ruan Yi's heart skipped a beat, and an absurd and terrifying thought popped into her head—
Is she about to have her kidneys cut?
That's not right. She was clearly in the US, not in some random industrial park. How could she have run into something like this?
Ruan Yi tried to struggle, but the strap tightened even more, and her wrists went numb.
As she moved around, she was surprised to find that she felt a chill on her body and was completely naked.
The shame barely surfaced before the will to survive overwhelmed her. Ruan Yi forced herself to calm down and quickly scanned her surroundings.
The room was illuminated only by a beam of light from above, while everything around her was hidden in shadow and indistinct.
Ruan Yi moved her arm; her skin was smooth, clearly indicating that someone had washed her body while she was unconscious.
Strangely, she felt no pain or any other unusual sensations, which made her feel slightly relieved, but also serious.
He wasn't after her looks; he was definitely after her organs!
Should we call for help?
Ruan Yi opened her mouth, then closed it again. This place was obviously very soundproof; even if she shouted herself hoarse, no one would answer, and she might even alert the enemy.
They had to find a way to save themselves... but their hands and feet were tightly bound, and they could barely move their fingertips.
Just as her breathing became increasingly rapid with anxiety, a very light footstep sound came from nearby.
Not from directly in front, but... from above.
She tried to look up, but her neck was constricted by a soft strap, allowing her only to sway slightly from side to side. All she could see was the stark white ceiling and the blinding light.
The footsteps grew closer and closer, stopping two steps above her head; she could even sense someone standing there.
Before she could think of anything to say, a piece of white cloth suddenly fell down, completely covering her eyes.
Her vision was instantly stripped away.
The man's footsteps stopped beside him, like a silent shadow.
His gaze fell on the girl's skin, which was glowing from the light.
It was porcelain white and delicate, so dazzling that it was impossible to look away from the surrounding darkness.
The soft, round shape was bathed in light, and the skin on her waist rose and fell gently with her breath, even the fine, light-colored downy hairs on her skin were clearly visible.
The darkness outside the halo made this snow-white landscape appear even more fragile, yet alluring.
Like a rare treasure displayed in a dark room, every inch of its texture exudes a beauty that makes your heart clench.
He slowly bent down, the sound of his leather shoes rolling on the ground extremely soft.
His large hand first landed on the girl's ankle, his fingertips carrying a slightly cool body temperature, gently brushing across her delicate skin, and moving up her calf.
As I brushed over the inside, my fingertips deliberately slowed down, savoring the softness of that skin.
The man looked at the delicate, beautiful blood vessels beneath that thin layer of skin, and his Adam's apple bobbed very slightly.
The whiteness within the light and the darkness outside it appeared to him like a meticulously composed painting.
And he was the only observer.
The silence was broken by a trembling voice, choked with sobs.
Ruan Yi felt lightheaded in the empty room.
"No...don't cut my kidneys..."
Her shoulders trembled slightly in the light, her bound wrists were red from the force of the binding, and her eyes, covered by a white cloth, could not see anything. She could only plead with the air on instinct.
"I'm rich...I'm very rich!"
"You can have as much as you want, I'll have someone transfer it to you, just... just please don't touch my kidney..."
His incoherent words, mixed with rapid breathing, carried an almost endearing plea for mercy.
Even though he was in his most vulnerable and helpless state, these blunt, even ridiculous, words scratched at his nerves like feathers.
The girl's voice trembled violently, the last syllable quivering, yet strangely carrying a wet, alluring quality that made his heart tighten.
His hand, which had been resting on her waist, paused for a moment, his fingertips still touching her delicate skin, feeling the muscles beneath trembling slightly with fear.
After a moment of silence, he didn't speak, but simply twirled his fingertips gently, sliding them towards her ribs, then gradually moving upwards, as if checking the integrity of the patterns on a work of art.
The large hand easily grasped the trembling, soft, white ball of flesh.
"That won't do! Cutting this is worse than cutting a kidney!"
