Chapter 11 Xie Qingheng
"Ranran, you're awake!"
Shanran looked over suspiciously and saw Rhine sitting on the chair by the bed. Memories of yesterday flooded back.
She kissed someone, and then she fainted!
Rhine stood up, his legs still a little numb from sleeping on the chair. His shirt was a bit wrinkled, the hem had fallen down to his waist, and the top two buttons of his collar were undone. Unlike his usual meticulous attire, he now looked somewhat disheveled and relaxed.
He walked to the window and opened the curtains.
Sunlight streamed in, and Shanran squinted.
After her eyes adjusted to the light, she looked at her hands and then closed them to feel the changes in her body.
Consciousness sank into the mind, into darkness, where a faint light shone in the distance.
As Shan Ran tried to get closer, her vision was suddenly drawn to the light.
Is this the progress of the spiritual world? You can reach any place you want in the blink of an eye.
Before she died in her previous life, she was in a state of extreme terror and had no energy to examine her mental world, nor was she aware that she had changed at all.
This was the first time Shan Ran had ever seriously experienced the existence of superpowers; it was truly amazing.
She leaned closer to the light and discovered that it was actually a small harpy eagle inside.
The harpy eagle is very cute; it's a chibi-style creature, round and adorable. However, its entire body is a bit blurry and doesn't look very clear.
Shanran wanted to touch the horned eagle's little wings.
Suddenly she felt something strange on her back, and then her clothes tore, and she heard the sound of wind rushing past behind her.
Shan Ran suddenly opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Rhine in front of her. His expression was extremely shocked, several times more shocked than hers.
Rhine's mouth was slightly open, and he froze on the spot, his mind blank.
Shan Ran turned around and saw a pair of wings unfolding behind her.
Curious, she touched it; the feathers had an exquisite texture. Bathed in sunlight, each feather resembled a meticulously crafted work of art, beautiful beyond compare.
Shanran smiled happily; she really loved it!
So this is what it feels like to touch your own wings. The wings are like another pair of hands. She can feel every caress and touch. After her body became animalized, it felt like a part of her own body. There was no discomfort from the graft.
She gently shook her wings, and tiny specks of dust danced in the sunlight, intertwining with them as if dancing on her heart.
It also seems to be dancing on the heart of the Rhine.
Rhine never expected that Shanran's superpower was exactly the same as his!
They were not only human, but also harpy eagles.
Species match perfectly!
They're a match made in heaven!
Rhine couldn't help but raise his hand to his heart, feeling the violent pounding in his chest, as if it were about to burst out.
He had no other doubts, only that Shan Ran had not been able to make good use of her superpowers before, so she had not shown them.
Shanran tried to flap her wings, and her wings, which had a wingspan of more than two meters, flapped loudly, blowing some light items on the bedside table to the ground.
Shanran didn't care about any of that; she just found it extremely interesting. She was about to fan herself a few more times when she suddenly felt a strong hunger—not just physical hunger, but a hunger that came from her spirit.
Immediately afterwards, the wings that had been fluttering beautifully vanished.
Shan Ran reached behind her and touched her back. Her back was smooth, and her sharp butterfly-shaped shoulder blades were as usual. If it weren't for the torn clothes, there would be no trace of the wings that had ever been there.
Her bra was also torn in the back, and one of the shoulder straps had slipped down to her arm.
Rhine's breath hitched for a moment before he realized what was happening and quickly turned around.
"You, you change your clothes first, I'll wait for you downstairs."
With that, Rhine ran out in a panic.
“By the way,” Rhine said, standing at the door with his back to Shanran, “your phone has been ringing non-stop since last night. People have been sending you messages and making calls. Take a look.”
He quickly left, even closing the door behind him.
Shan Ran sat on the bed for a while to calm down the intense hunger before picking up her phone from the bedside table.
Just then, the phone rang.
The caller was Brother Qingheng.
Shan Ran's eyes lit up; this was the first time she had contacted her childhood sweetheart since she regained consciousness.
Xie Qingheng is three years older than her. Her father and Xie's father are old friends and have some business dealings. The two younger members of the family have been playing together since they were little.
The mischievous little boy often teases the little girl, not out of malice, but just for fun.
After being teased, the little girl turned around and punched, kicked, and pulled hair. Despite her young age, she was surprisingly strong. The little boy was beaten so badly that he cried and called his parents.
The little boy was very handsome and delicate from a young age, and the little girl beat him while looking down on his crying face.
"I'll beat you to death, you little vixen!"
"Waaaaah, you little devil!"
Finally, the nanny managed to separate the two children, mainly to hold back the strong little girl. Xie's father reprimanded Xie Qingheng, and Shan's father scolded Shan Ran.
The two grew up together, bickering and fighting, until Shanran was 12 years old when a sudden upheaval occurred: her parents passed away, a high-ranking member of the group betrayed her, and her relatives came with their hideous faces to divide up the assets.
Xie's father stood by and watched.
Shanran vaguely sensed that something was amiss, but at such a young age, she was about to be kicked out penniless and struggling to survive, so she had no means to investigate the truth.
Xie Qingheng, who used to like pulling Shan Ran's braids when he was a child, knelt in front of his father. His forehead was swollen from the kowtow, and he wanted to cut his wrists, but was stopped by the bodyguards. In the end, he went on a hunger strike to protest, which finally made his father relent and lend a helping hand to help Shan Ran save some of his assets.
This small amount of assets is enough to ensure Shan Ran's comfortable life for the rest of her days.
Fifteen-year-old Xie Qingheng seemed to have grown up overnight. He stood in front of Xiao Shanran, completely shielding the little girl, and begged his father to take her in.
Shanran felt very uncomfortable during the two years she lived at the Xie family's house.
Uncle Xie, who had always doted on her since childhood, has hardly spoken to her since. Every time he glances at her, his eyes are filled with complicated emotions.
There was guilt, pain, and disgust.
He has murderous intent.
Shanran hated that kind of look.
Since she came to the Xie family, Xie Qingheng and Xie's father often quarreled, always behind closed doors. However, Shan Ran secretly hid at the door a few times and overheard snippets of their conversation.
It mentions Shan Ran's father.
Why can't you help Uncle Shan?
Aren't you two best friends?
"Do you know something?"
"You have contact with those people..."
"You hypocritical coward!"
Almost every time Xie Qingheng came out of the study, his face was covered with red handprints, and a few times he even bled from his head.
Xie's father always dealt with Xie Qingheng severely, unlike when he was a child. Before, it was just for show, but now he was really serious about hitting him.
From then on, Xie Qingheng changed his mischievous ways and stopped playing around with Shan Ran. He spoiled Shan Ran without limits, as if he wanted to give her all the good things in the world.
Shanran became indifferent and taciturn at school. Some people mocked her for bringing bad luck to her parents and causing their deaths, and laughed at her as an unwanted orphan.
Upon hearing the news, Xie Qingheng rushed over from the upper grades and stormed into the other student's class, beating them half to death.
The Xie family was just a newly rich "nouveau riche" family that had been wealthy for three generations. They were not aristocratic families, and there were some people they couldn't afford to offend. In the end, it was Xie's father who had to work hard to clean up the mess.
When I got home, I was bound to get a beating again.
Shan Ran lived in this oppressive environment for two years.
Two years later, Shan Ran had grown taller. Because of her long-term practice of self-defense, martial arts, and swordsmanship, she had a good basic ability to protect herself. So she brought all her assets to the Third Continent and moved into the villa that her parents had bought.
Xie Qingheng did not try to stop her, but hugged Shan Ran tightly before she left, telling her that he would definitely come to find her in the future and would always protect her.
During those six years, they only met once, when Xie Qingheng found an opportunity to come to the Third Continent.
Three years had passed since their last meeting.
They don't usually keep in touch much, and the thing Xie Qingheng says most often is...
"I sent you something, Xiao Ran."
"I've sent you a red envelope. Happy holiday!"
"Tell me anything you want, anything is fine with me."
"......."
"Xiao Ran, are you there?"
Shan Ran was lost in memories, and only came back to her senses when she heard Xie Qingheng's voice. "Yes, I'm here."
"Are you alright? Where are you? Are you safe?"
Shan Ran smiled. "I'm fine. I'm at home now, it's very safe. How about you? I heard from Assistant Cheng that you were unconscious on the first day. When did you wake up? How are you feeling?"
Hearing Shan Ran's laughter, Xie Qingheng's voice finally relaxed.
He paused for a moment, his voice a little hoarse, as if he hadn't had a good rest, "Old Cheng said that he's relieved that everything has been handed over to you. This is the first time in all these years that you've asked me for something on your own initiative."
Before Shanran could reply, he continued, "I woke up at noon yesterday. I was very tired after waking up. They wouldn't let me do anything. They did a series of tests on me to determine my physical condition, and only gave me my phone back in the evening."
I tried to contact you as soon as I got my phone, but I couldn't reach you. I'm so worried about you..."
Shan Ran clenched her fist and coughed lightly, placing it near her mouth.
She had just kissed Rhine last night and then fainted.
"I'm glad you're alright."
Hearing Shan Ran's words, Xie Qingheng was silent for a moment, "Yes, I'm fine. Xiao Ran, you need to take good care of yourself. I'll send you some more things."
But I can't come over recently. Martial law is in effect on the Second Continent, and many families are very strict. Xie Huaimin has forbidden me from leaving the house..."
Xie Huaimin is Xie's father.
Shanran knew all about these things. "You're not in a hurry to come over. It's safest for you to stay at home."
Xie Qingheng's breathing quickened. "Xiao Ran, take care of yourself. I'll be there as soon as possible. Wait for me."
Shan Ran's gaze softened, and she chuckled softly, "Okay, I'll wait for you."
Xie Qingheng, who had been tense for a long time, finally relaxed a little.
He then told Shanran about his special ability.
He is a dual-type ability user, possessing both light-type and great white shark-type abilities.
Great white sharks are enormous, with an incredible bite force and extremely strong attack power.
However, Xie Qingheng has almost not yet developed the Great White Shark ability.
Because he rarely used it, he concealed his second superpower and did not want his father or anyone else to know.
So he hasn't had a chance to practice yet.
However, he was certain that if he transformed into a shark head, he could not be directly exposed to the air; he would need the assistance of water-based abilities.
He had a premonition that once he had the cooperation of a water-based ability user, his great white shark ability would be incredibly lethal.
