Chapter 45: There is a traitor in Sofia's team.
"But what I'm curious about is, Miss Shanran and Captain Kunwu, you don't seem surprised at all?"
Sam's smile faded slightly. His usually smiling eyes were now sharply fixed on the girl downstairs, his gaze like that of a venomous snake eyeing its prey, gleaming with a determined yet teasing light.
After all, everything is already in the process of being filmed. There's live streaming and video recording. The more interesting the interaction with the prey, the more likely it is to attract bets and money from the bosses behind them.
Shan Ran did not answer Sam's question.
“Someone at your base has digital information abilities. They altered our network, and the calls we made didn’t reach Zack; instead, they were transferred to your people.”
It wasn't a question, but an affirmative statement.
Sophia and the others, along with Sam, all showed expressions of surprise.
"When did this happen? That's why I didn't make any of those three calls?"
Shan Ran glanced at Sophia. "The first phone call on the roadside should be genuine. The signal has changed since we entered the manor. Moreover, there are surveillance cameras everywhere, in every room. Our every move is being monitored."
Sophia's expression was indescribable. "Captain Shanran, when did you find out? You knew there was a problem here, but you didn't even inform us beforehand?"
The other person's tone carried a hint of reproach, and she could tell that Captain Kunwu was aware of the situation, so only Sophia's team was kept in the dark.
Shan Ran didn't mind, and shrugged helplessly. "I see that although you believed the fake Zack, you're still very vigilant, so I'm much relieved. None of you have eaten the food here, have you?"
Besides, I'm quite familiar with Captain Kunwu, so I can figure out a way to avoid the surveillance. But Captain Sophia, I can't exactly whisper sweet nothings in your ear; it'll definitely arouse suspicion.
Sofia: ? ? ? What whispering in the ear? What sweet nothings?
Sam suddenly realized, "So that's why you were hugging and getting intimate with Captain Kunwu back then, because you already knew you were being watched?"
Kunwu Yecheng's eyes were dark. He didn't like the scene of Shanran being with him being seen by others, and he didn't want others to see the girl's soft and charming demeanor, even if it was just acting.
He gripped his field knife tightly, the veins on his arm bulging.
Sam burst into laughter, a truly hearty laugh.
"Captain Shanran, I am truly impressed with you. Such a smart and beautiful captain makes us need to reassess your value. I believe your worth will skyrocket in the future."
His tone was very generous, as if Yamazaki would be proud of it.
Shan Ran's gaze was cold and disgusted. "I never need anyone to evaluate me."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a tremendous bombing roared around them.
This is absolutely shocking!
The entire manor shook violently, with almost every floor exploding at the same time. One side of the roof was blown off, revealing the mottled and jagged steel bars.
The ceiling cracked, and rubble and chandeliers fell heavily down.
The people who had been calmly watching the show since the lights dimmed finally started to panic.
How could a perfectly good dinner party suddenly turn into an explosion?
They came here to have fun, not to escape!
The crowd screamed, howled, and cursed as they pushed and shoved each other in their escape.
Sophia and the others immediately used their various superpowers to protect themselves.
Tong Lu screamed and clutched her head. She was immediately pulled into a strong embrace. Looking up, she saw that the petrified Zhan Hongbo had completely protected her beneath him.
Sofia calmly directed her team, emphasizing that their immediate priority was to escape.
She glanced at Shan Ran with some guilt and apologized seriously, "Captain Shan Ran, I was rude just now, I'm really sorry. Thanks to you and Captain Kunwu, our whole team will definitely express our gratitude after we get out."
After speaking, without waiting for Shan Ran's reply, she turned to look at Lin Mo not far away, the two separated by a huge rock.
"Lin Mo! Come here!"
Lin Mo was pushed and shoved by the crowd to walk in the opposite direction. He overcame many obstacles and finally came to Sophia's side.
"Captain, I'm finally back!"
Sophia nodded, then turned her back to Lin Mo, preparing to continue giving instructions.
However, the next second, Sofia sensed something was wrong. Just as she was about to turn around, she heard a "plop" sound behind her, along with a woman's cry of pain.
In the short span of just over a second from when she turned around to when she turned back, the situation had changed dramatically.
Valentina stood beside her, a knife embedded in her chest, its blade black and coated with deadly poison.
The man with the knife was somewhat surprised that someone had blocked his blade, but he did not linger in the fight and quickly fled before the people around him could react.
"Lin Mo! Are you crazy? What are you doing?" The members of Sophia's team were shocked. They hugged the fallen Valentina and looked at Lin Mo not far away with anger and confusion.
The other person stood on a pile of rubble in the distance, a sinister and venomous smile curling at the corners of his mouth. His originally handsome face now revealed a sinister and venomous expression.
"You're not Lin Mo! Who are you?" Sophia roared.
Lin Mo tilted his head and said sarcastically, "Respected Captain, you've finally shown some intelligence for once."
"Where's Lin Mo? Is he still alive? When did you switch places with him?"
The person impersonating Lin Mo counted on his fingers, then shook his head helplessly. "Captain, you have so many questions. This is so difficult. Which one should I answer first?"
"He must have switched with Lin Mo while he was in the room; there might be a secret passage in the room."
Upon hearing Shan Ran's words, the fake Lin Mo's eyes lit up, revealing an infatuated expression. "My dear Captain Shan Ran, you truly are the woman I've chosen. You're so intelligent."
Shan got goosebumps from that blatant and greedy expression. She was disgusted and turned away, no longer looking at the fake Lin Mo.
"He has the ability to change his appearance. Let's ignore him for now and get going."
Kunwu Yecheng tried his best to suppress the urge to gouge out the fake Lin Mo's eyes. He made a gesture, signaling the team members to retreat quickly.
With Zhan Hongbo carrying Tong Lu and Sophia carrying Valentina, they had no way to go back to rescue Lin Mo, so they could only try their best to escape first.
However, as soon as everyone stepped out of the main hall and into the front hall, they suddenly felt dizzy. They tried to struggle, but could no longer stay conscious and collapsed to the ground.
Before losing consciousness, Sophia realized that it was the fake Lin Mo who had poisoned the food they had brought.
Three video calls from Zach did not make her lower her guard, but she never expected that someone had replaced their team members and infiltrated the team as a traitor!
It's a series of interconnected schemes, making it virtually impossible to defend against.
The Kunwu team members also noticed Sophia and the others' situation, but they only paused for a moment before continuing on their way.
From the opposite direction from which the guests fled, a large number of fully armed men rushed in, forming circles around their prey.
The Kunwu team couldn't care less about the unconscious Sophia and the others; even escaping themselves was a struggle.
Having worked together before, Shanran and Kunwuyecheng now have an even better working relationship.
As they huddled close together in front of the railing, they had already clearly discussed their plans for the future.
The two first pretended to be a curious couple in the throes of new love, wandering around the manor. After realizing there were cameras around, they deliberately avoided them and secretly planted small bombs.
Thanks to Kunwu Yecheng's spatial storage ability, the process of taking the bomb out of his sleeve was very secretive and was not discovered at all.
However, since the two had just arrived, their space was limited, and they didn't have much time. They could only try their best to cause a disturbance, but they couldn't raze the place to the ground.
Afterwards, Kunwu Yecheng went to each member's room, without saying much, but instead showed the members his subtle hand gestures.
This is a hand gesture used for internal team communication, meaning: Something's up, be cautious.
As for Sofia, they didn't offer any explanation.
After all, this was their first collaboration, and given Sophia's cautious nature, revealing everything might arouse her suspicion. If they said too much and the person behind the scenes discovered it, their plan would have to stop.
But unexpectedly, there was a "traitor" among them.
Kunwu Yecheng threw several bombs out of the space, blasting a bloody path ahead, and the group headed towards the exit.
However, the next moment, a muffled launch sound rang out outside, followed by the sound of something cutting through the air.
Kunwu Yecheng's expression changed drastically. He gestured for all the team members to disperse, then pulled Shanran next to him and rolled her to the side.
With a loud bang, a crater was blasted into the spot where everyone had just been standing.
"This is a weapon unique to the First Continent, how could it appear here?" Kunwu Yecheng muttered to himself in confusion, but his hands did not stop moving.
Maxim had transformed into a brown bear paw, and his face vaguely resembled a brown bear's head, with a few bear hairs sprouting around his face. He roared and slapped one of them away with a single blow.
Coconut leaves sprouted around Chu Liuxing. The leaves were as hard as needles, and each strike could tear a person's skin and flesh. Combined with his agile movements, they tore a gap in the road ahead.
However, the First Continent's advanced weaponry had already surrounded the manor, cutting off everyone's escape route.
"Surrender! You can't escape. Give up now and you'll suffer less!" Sam shouted. Their target was the living prisoners, not a bunch of corpses.
Shan Ran turned her head to look at Kunwu Yecheng and gave him a wink.
The man reacted immediately, darting away from his original spot and appearing directly on the rooftop.
He threw a large bomb, blasting a huge hole in the manor from top to bottom.
The loud noise came unexpectedly, and the people inside the manor scrambled to get out of the way.
When the dust and fog cleared, Shan Ran was nowhere to be seen.
At this moment, Shan Ran spread her wings and flew in the air, while Kun Wu Ye Cheng hugged her neck tightly and tried to press himself against her body to relieve her pressure.
Zack hadn't mentioned Shanran before they arrived, so Sam and the others didn't set up any defenses in the air, which allowed Shanran and Kunwu Yecheng to slip through the gap and escape.
Unfortunately, everyone else was left behind.
