Chapter 53 If this continues, Shanran will go crazy...
Shan Ran looked over and was drawn to the boy on the ground.
After a while, the crowd dispersed, and the boy who had fallen was helped to his feet.
This is a boy who is nearly two meters tall. His wheat-colored skin looks very healthy, and his muscles are very well-developed, strong and muscular. His face is very handsome and he stands out in the crowd.
At this moment, the boy's face turned pale, and his eyes widened, as if he had been frightened.
He was covered in sweat. After standing up, he supported himself on his knees with his hands, bent over, and tried to catch his breath. It took him a while to recover.
Shan Ran quickly looked away.
She had no time to think about anyone else; the two hallucinations she had just experienced were so real they were terrifying, making her wonder if there was something wrong with her mental state.
After class, she went to the infirmary, where there was an older school doctor with gray hair who looked very kind.
After thinking for a moment, Shan Ran described her condition.
"I've been experiencing frequent hallucinations and feeling mentally disoriented today."
"What kind of hallucination?"
Shan Ran hesitated, "Do I really have to tell you?"
The school doctor smiled kindly, "Good child, how can I prescribe the right medicine if you don't tell me?"
After thinking for a moment, Shanran decided to recount what she had just seen.
The school doctor across from me adjusted his glasses and spoke in a calm tone and at a slow pace.
"A faceless person?"
"Is that so?"
The stool suddenly fell to the ground, and Shan Ran's pupils contracted. This time, her legs didn't go weak as before. After the school doctor's features disappeared completely, she screamed and ran backward, trying to rush out the door.
However, just one step from the door, the faceless school doctor appeared behind her, pressing close to her.
Shan Ran could feel the chilling aura behind her neck, but she dared not turn around!
The next second, Shanran saw that face without features again.
Her head was twisted behind her back once again.
"Ah!" Shan Ran exclaimed sharply, getting up from the bed and taking deep breaths of fresh air.
The pain of dying twice in such a short period of time was so vivid that Shanran doubted that it was a hallucination, but something that had actually happened.
But how can someone who has truly died be brought back to life?
She felt around with both hands to make sure her body was intact.
"My dear child, you're awake?"
The school doctor, with gray hair, lifted the curtain and walked to the bedside.
Hearing the familiar voice, Shan Ran was so frightened that she almost jumped off the bed and shrank back into the corner.
"Don't be afraid. You fainted again after you finished talking about those hallucinations. It's probably because you've been under too much pressure from studying lately. I'll prescribe some medicine for you. Take it on time when you get home and get plenty of rest."
After saying that, he handed over several bottles of medicine, with instructions written on them.
Shan Ran put the medicine bottle back in her pocket, dared not linger any longer, and left after putting on her shoes.
I rushed out the door and brushed past a boy.
The boy was very tall, and his face was quite striking. When Shan Ran looked over, their eyes met.
It's the boy who just fell down on the basketball court.
Shanran nodded politely, and the boy hesitated for a moment before replying with "Hello."
As Shanran turned the corner, she looked back and saw the boy entering the infirmary.
She didn't linger and left directly.
Shanran asked for leave from the following classes and left school early.
She knew the route home very well. Shanran arrived at the bus stop, waited for the No. 44 bus to arrive, and then paid her fare to board.
After boarding the bus, she habitually sat in the corner of the last row, which gave her a sense of security.
After the bus stopped at three stops, the doors opened again. This time, no one boarded, but the doors remained open for a while.
Shanran is now extremely sensitive; any strange place will alert her.
Then there was nothing unusual about the car door.
A moment later, there was a screeching sound and a thumping sound coming from the floor. Shanran looked ahead warily, but saw nothing.
However, the sound grew closer and closer. Shanran felt a chill rise from the soles of her feet. A strange intuition prompted her to tilt her body and look towards the center.
The scene before her almost made her scream.
In the aisle between the two rows of vehicles, a humanoid monster was crawling. It was on all fours, its head stretched forward, and its thick, messy hair was blocking its face.
Its body dragged on the ground, its limbs crawling forward, slowly moving towards the direction of Shan Ran.
The passengers on the bus seemed not to have seen it at all, ignoring the things on the ground.
Only the mountain dyer can see it.
It seemed that the monster only had eyes for her.
The car door closed, and the vehicle continued moving forward, the monster gradually approaching.
Shan Ran trembled all over. The car windows were sealed shut. She tried to bang them against the glass with her elbows and hit them with her schoolbag, but to no avail. The car windows did not budge.
She could only cling desperately to the car wall, hoping someone would come to her rescue.
Before long, the monster crawled right up to them...
Shan Ran suddenly opened her eyes. She looked around and saw that the train was empty. The train quickly stopped at the station.
"Miss, we've arrived at the final stop, aren't you getting off?"
Shan Ran's heart was pounding so hard it felt like her whole heart was about to jump out of her chest.
She didn't know if it was a hallucination or reality, but she died again, attacked and killed by that monster.
The pain felt so real, but if it was real, why didn't the people around her react? How could she possibly be brought back to life?
I'm going crazy!
Shan Ran stood up shakily, grabbed her schoolbag, and ran off the bus.
By the time I got home, it was already dinnertime.
Shanran was absent-minded the whole way. Her back was soaked with cold sweat. She was very cold and just wanted to get home as soon as possible.
Just go home, and the hallucinations will all disappear!
She comforted herself with this thought.
Only such comfort could give her the courage to live; otherwise, how could a weak student like her survive in such a terrible world?
"I'm back."
"Xiao Ran is back! Wash your hands and eat."
The room was warmly lit. Mom was in the kitchen, Dad was helping to serve the dishes, and my younger brother came out of his room.
Shan Ran let out a long sigh.
That's great. My family is all here. Home is still as warm as I remember. This is the safest place.
"Come on, sit down. Mom made a new dish today, one I just learned. Try it and see how it is?"
Shanran held the bowl, and her mother put food in her and her younger brother's bowls, adding quite a bit of food.
"Thank you, Mom."
She was drinking soup from her bowl, which blocked her view. When she put the bowl down, the dining table reappeared in front of her.
"vomit......"
Shan Ran spat out everything she had just eaten, because she saw that the bowls contained not normal food, but maggots, dead rats, and some sticky, blood-stained suspicious lumps of meat!
Just moments ago, the air was filled with the aroma of food, but now all that fills the nostrils is a disgusting, rotten, and fishy stench.
"What's wrong, Xiaoran? Didn't Mommy's cooking taste good?"
The other three people at the table all stared intently at Shan Ran, waiting for her answer.
Their expressions were blank, with a slight upturn at the corners of their mouths, making them look mechanical and eerie.
A faint crimson light shone from within the three pairs of eyes.
Shanran couldn't believe what she was seeing. She slammed the bowl on the table, stood up abruptly, and tried to run away, but in the blink of an eye, everything on the table returned to normal.
Her parents and younger brother looked at her with concern.
"What's wrong, Xiaoran? Don't you like the taste?"
"Sis, Mom worked so hard to make this for us, how can you not give us any face at all?"
Shanran felt like she was about to have a mental breakdown. She didn't know why she was having hallucinations at home!
If even her home isn't safe, where else can she go?
She can't go anywhere, she's going crazy!
Shan Ran shook her head haphazardly, said "I'm not feeling well," and then stumbled back to her room and locked the door.
Behind him came the questioning voices of his family.
"What's wrong with my sister?"
"She's probably under a lot of academic pressure lately. Don't bother your sister, let her get some rest."
Shan Ran lay on the bed, her eyes tightly closed, silently praying that it was all an illusion, that she would be fine when she woke up, and that she would stop having illusions starting tomorrow.
Gradually, my eyelids felt heavier and heavier.
Just as she was drifting off to sleep, a strong premonition suddenly prompted her to open her eyes and look to her side.
A sinister grin appeared beside the bed...
——
The morning sun was warm, but Shanran felt icy cold all over.
She sat up abruptly, panting heavily, her eyes filled with suspicion and uncertainty.
Everything around her felt unreal, yet she felt pain when she pinched herself and pain when she was killed; this was not a dream.
What exactly happened?
What exactly happened to her?
What should she do?
Shan Ran lowered her head and fiercely tugged at her hair, trying to use the pain to bring herself back to her senses.
The repeated shocks and panic had made her irrational; she couldn't pretend they were all hallucinations—they felt far too real.
Did she encounter some strange event? Should she go find someone to exorcise the demon?
Early in the morning, she didn't even dare to eat breakfast before leaving home with her schoolbag.
Home isn't safe either, so she'd rather go to school.
Walking downstairs in the residential area, the warm sun finally made Shanran feel a little better.
Suddenly, a tall figure appeared in my peripheral vision.
Shan Ran looked over, and the other person noticed him too.
The boy hesitated for a moment, then walked towards her and greeted her.
The two then walked together toward the station.
"You...didn't sleep well last night?"
Shanran didn't look in the mirror at all in the morning, afraid that she would see something terrible in the mirror, but she knew that she hadn't slept well last night and that her dark circles must be very heavy.
She nodded and looked at the boy. Although his skin was darker, she could still see the dark circles under his eyes and the bloodshot eyes.
"You didn't sleep well either?"
The boy nodded silently.
The two boarded the bus together, and thankfully, nothing like what happened yesterday occurred again.
After arriving at the school, the two parted ways, and Shanran learned that the other person was a senior who was five years her senior.
Shanran felt something was off again.
Why are there so many grades in a school? Why haven't the boys graduated yet?
The morning passed peacefully without any strange occurrences, and Shanran breathed a sigh of relief, feeling that her prayers had come true.
At noon, Shanran went to the school store to buy snacks and chose a carton of milk.
When I handed over my change, the cashier looked at it and said impatiently, "Sir, the amount you gave me is incorrect."
