Chapter 25 Lotus Root
Liu Yinyin almost had a nosebleed when she saw this.
Taking a deep breath, Liu Yinyin blinked her eyes and said, "Why aren't you wearing any clothes?"
Damn, how can a man have such a perfect body!
"What do I wear at home?" Gu Cheng said indifferently.
I casually wiped my short hair with a towel. It's hot and I sweat easily, so it's more comfortable to cross my arms.
Liu Yinyin glared at him, ignored him, took her clothes and went out.
When she came back from the shower, the man was already asleep in bed.
Gu Cheng took the train for several days and worked for an afternoon when he got back. Perhaps he was really tired, and he fell into a deep sleep as soon as he lay down.
Liu Yinyin had nothing to say after holding back for a long time, so she blew out the kerosene lamp, tiptoed to lift the mosquito net, climbed onto the bed and lay down.
The bed was small, and there was no space at all for two adults to sleep on it, making it inconvenient for Liu Yinyin to turn over.
I turned around to look at Gu Cheng. In the darkness, I could only make out a rough outline...
The man slept soundly, without any snoring.
well!
This man is such a trouble. After all, he is the father of the baby in her belly. Gu Cheng is right, but she cannot deprive him of his rights as a father.
But...it's also hard to accept him, which is quite annoying.
Liu Yinyin thought she would not be able to sleep that night.
Unexpectedly, I slept until dawn and vaguely heard voices outside.
There was no one around, and I didn't know when Gu Cheng got up.
As if she had overslept, Liu Yinyin rubbed her eyes and got up from the bed. Just as she was about to go out, she saw Gu Cheng coming in.
"You're awake." Gu Cheng said to her, "The meal is ready and warming in the pot. I'm going to work first. Also..."
Gu Cheng paused and continued, "My mother just came over and said that we should cook our own meals from now on."
Jiang Cuihua did this to allow the couple to develop a close relationship. Apart from working, the only times they could be alone together were when they ate and slept.
So, she let the young couple eat here in the future. After all, Liu Yinyin didn't have to work now and had time to cook.
Liu Yinyin was a little confused: "...I know."
I thought to myself, her mother really took great pains for them.
"You are not feeling well right now, so let me do the heavy work at home."
Gu Cheng left after saying this.
Liu Yinyin was quite happy that she didn't have to go to work on such a hot day. She washed up and went into the kitchen.
There was indeed breakfast hot in the pot: millet porridge, steamed buns, and scrambled eggs with cucumber.
She didn't know how early Gu Cheng got up. She just saw in the yard that the clothes she changed last night had been washed and were hanging on bamboo poles to dry.
Apart from anything else, Gu Cheng is a pretty good man and not a bit of a male chauvinist.
Most people these days still hold old ideas and concepts, especially in the countryside. As far as the original owner could remember, she had never seen her father and brothers cook or wash clothes.
The women at home, even if they are pregnant, do not delay any of their work, such as washing clothes, cooking, or working in the fields.
After breakfast, Liu Yinyin took a few eggs to the Liu family. There were only two laying hens left in the Liu family, and the few little hens they bought later had not been raised for long.
Chickens don’t like to lay eggs when it’s hot. Sometimes you can only pick one egg a day. With such a large family, how can one or two eggs be enough to eat?
The Liu family’s vegetable garden is very large and is full of vegetables. Liu Yinyin picked two loofahs, a few eggplants, a handful of peppers and a handful of leeks.
Liu Yinyin was very worried. There were too many people at home and the vegetables in her vegetable garden were not enough to eat.
There was still food. She took a careful look in the morning and found that there were still about 15 or 16 pounds of cornmeal and more than 10 pounds of corn grits left in the kitchen. The total of black flour and millet was less than five pounds.
When she was alone, she would often take some things out of the system to make up for the shortage, so that she would have so much food left.
Now that there is a new person, Gu Cheng, at home, Liu Yinyin is afraid that he will become suspicious, so there are some things she definitely cannot do openly.
So...she saw that Gu Cheng had a big appetite, so it would take at least a month for the village to distribute food.
In other words, the remaining food was not enough to support the two of them to eat the rations distributed in the village!
Oh!
I don’t know what to do when the food is gone. I can’t bring Gu Cheng to my mother’s house to beg for money, right?
When Liu Yinyin came out of Liu's house, she happened to meet the village head's wife Li Chunfang who was carrying a basket home.
"Yinyin." Li Chunfang called her with a smile.
Liu Yinyin smiled at her: "Auntie."
Li Chunfang took half a day off today and went back to her parents' home. Her parents' home has more ponds than arable land. In order to make money, the villagers planted lotus roots and raised fish in the ponds.
In the past two years, I have made a good income by selling fish and lotus roots in the lotus pond.
Of course, the lotus pond belongs to the collective, and the money earned from the lotus roots and fish produced also belongs to the collective, but at the end of the year each family can get some money.
The autumn harvest was hard during this period, and in order to reward the villagers, the village caught a lot of fish and lotus roots and distributed them to everyone to improve their diet.
Li Chunfang's family asked her to bring some back to eat.
She also heard about Gu Cheng's return yesterday. Gu Cheng is young and promising.
Flattery was out of the question, but Li Chunfang still really wanted to be on good terms with Liu Yinyin's family. Maybe they could help each other out if something happened in the future.
At this moment, he happened to see Liu Yinyin, so he smiled and asked her, "What a coincidence, my parents just gave me two fish and some lotus roots. Come, take some back to eat."
After that, Li Chunfang stuffed two lotus roots into Liu Yinyin's basket and wanted to give her a fish...
Liu Yinyin was indeed tempted, but she definitely couldn't eat other people's food for free, as both fish and lotus roots were not cheap.
Liu Yinyin quickly stopped her and said, "Auntie, how can I accept your things? They are not cheap. You should take them back and eat them yourself."
"Well!" Li Chunfang waved her hands and said, "It was all my mother's share. I didn't spend any money."
Liu Yinyin said thoughtfully: "I can't take it from you for nothing, auntie...how about I exchange it with you for something else?"
No matter what, she refused to accept anything from Li Chunfang for no reason.
Li Chunfang said helplessly: "You are quite stubborn, okay, then just bring something to exchange, eggs, vegetables, etc."
Liu Yinyin's family simply didn't have any extra eggs to spare.
She had no choice but to say, "Auntie, how about... I pay you to trade jobs with you?"
I just want to buy it, but some things are hard to say too directly.
When Li Chunfang heard this, her eyes lit up. She thought, since Gu Cheng has a salary, Liu Yinyin must not be short of money either.
They country folk are busy farming all year round. They have enough food, but they are very short of money.
Li Chunfang couldn't resist the temptation and said awkwardly, "If you have money, it seems...it's not impossible."
