Chapter Eighty-Two Angels

Chen Jing nodded and looked at the others, who all agreed.

Chen Jingxian pushed open the door and, using the light from the torch on his left, surveyed the scene inside. It was a gloomy and damp cubicle, about 15 meters long and 6 meters wide.

This long cubicle is currently empty.

My gaze followed the firelight through the long compartment, where a staircase led upwards into the darkness.

Dao Nan unconsciously lowered his voice and said, "If the torches run out of light, we'll use the Bright Light Incense that Captain Mo Wuge gave us earlier for illumination, but we don't know how long it will last."

Among the items Mo Wuge had given Chen Jing and the others were two sticks of incense, one of which emitted light and the other emitted smoke.

Looking at the faint light of the torch, Chen Jing took out a golden incense stick and lit it on the flame.

Although it was a tiny flame, the incense emitted a bright and warm light, which restored everyone's vision and even their mental state.

Chen Jing held the incense, Dao Nan picked up the sword and shield, and the two of them led the way. Two extraordinary individuals who were not good at fighting followed behind, while Li Ai carried Li Si on his back and brought up the rear. They slowly walked up the stairs to the second floor.

Then, they witnessed a shocking scene:

The first thing that caught Chen Jing's eye was a huge wooden stake with a winged human figure nailed to it, the nails piercing through the wings, arms, and legs.

And everywhere—on the floor, the walls, and around the door—were piled up maggots over a meter long.

These maggots are yellowish-white and fleshy, and they look extremely disgusting.

Moreover, they all have two eyes, a nose, and a mouth.

That's a human face!

Zhang Taoying exclaimed in shock, "That's...that mural...um..." He Lili, who was next to her, covered her mouth.

"...Sorry to bother you, hurry up and run!" Dao Nan turned around immediately.

"Shh, slip away." Chen Jing whispered. He was the first to come in, so naturally he had to be the last to leave.

The others quickly turned around and ran back to their previous cubicles. Whether it was a misperception or not, as they ran down, Chen Jing seemed to see the angel-like person open their eyes for a moment.

Blood-red eyes.

At the bottom of the stairs, in a long cubicle.

"The enemy?" Li Ai asked, having not seen the scene above, walking at the back with Li Si on her back.

"No time to explain, let's go..." Zhang Taoying said, glancing back nervously, "It's too creepy..."

Chen Jing turned his back to them, facing upwards, and slowly descended the stairs.

He said, "The prototype of that mural is probably in the room above. That's not the Temple of Heaven, it's an altar."

“That thing…” He Lili said after catching her breath, “That thing might not be an angel.”

"It might be human!"

"Humans with wings? Birdmen?" Dao Nan said, "...Hey, hey, hey, don't say anything about turning people into angels or anything like that."

This is getting weirder and weirder... Tsk, he has to keep the secret of becoming a Blood Realm expert and can't show his noise-invisibility in front of others... Chen Jing wanted to use his noise-invisibility to go and take a look, but he held back. He couldn't guarantee that his teammates wouldn't leak the secret. Even if he could trust everyone, there were still a lot of people. Besides, Chen Jing didn't actually trust anyone outside of Dao Nan.

He Lili glanced at the stairs, making sure nothing was coming down: "Those bugs... human-faced bugs, what exactly are they..."

Zhang Taoying said fearfully, "Let's go back to the murals and rest. This place is really creepy..."

Everyone voted with their actions, agreeing with her opinion. The frightened group quickly moved away, retreated from the door, and only stopped near the stone tablet in the dark passageway.

Dao Nan finally caught his breath and helped Li Ai put the unconscious Li Si down, saying, "If they wanted to come out, they would have come out earlier. At least for now, they can't leave that room. I don't know why."

He Lili glanced at Dao Nan: "Do you think they can come out at night?"

“I think if they can come out, we won’t be able to escape either. Let’s rest for a bit,” Dao Nan said. “Although that mural is also upsetting, it’s much better than the real thing. Let’s rest here for a while.”

Just then, Chen Jing suddenly spoke.

"Gentlemen, we don't have much food or water."
