Zhang Taoying said, "This... seems really scary... this kind of fanatical faith..." She shuddered, clearly thinking of something terrifying.
"...So, after we jumped out of the window under that arena, we ended up in some cult stronghold...By the way, does anyone know roughly where we are now?" Dao Nan said.
“This place might have been a gathering place for cults in the past…” He Lili said.
Chen Jing was observing his surroundings. First, no zombies jumped down from the previous window to give chase.
This is a long road running east to west. To the right of the monument is a rock wall, from which they jumped down through a window. To the left of the monument is deep darkness, with what appears to be a bottomless abyss below.
"The zombies can probably only roam in the dungeon; they haven't caught up with us yet," Chen Jing said, glancing behind him.
If that's really the case, then not giving up on Li Si and going down the long ladder was actually a wise choice... Chen Jing thought to himself.
"They haven't caught up... Are you safe for now?" Li Ai asked.
"It should be safe from here... but there may still be unknown dangers ahead," Zhang Taoying said.
Chen Jing thought for a moment and said, "Do you remember that the guardian of the arena before was that slave spirit? If it's a cult base, does that mean they used the spirit? Or is that slave spirit essentially guarding these cultists?"
That slave spirit was essentially a painting… Chen Jing silently added in his mind.
“If it’s someone who’s guarding the place, that’s fine, but if it’s someone who’s acting as their gatekeeper, then it’s troublesome,” Dao Nan said.
Zhang Taoying said, somewhat distraught, "Wandering spirits... God, these are the most terrifying creatures I've ever encountered since I was a child... I hate them..."
Li Ai checked on Li Si, who had red hair, and poked her face with her finger, but she still hadn't woken up.
Chen Jing continued to examine the stone tablet, feeling that it held some kind of significance.
He soon discovered that the pictures and words were not only on the side closest to them, but also on the other sides.
There are four pictures in total, corresponding to the four paragraphs of text below.
A scene depicts cities and villages being destroyed by a terrible natural disaster, with apocalyptic rain, lightning, and fire falling from the sky.
One of them was one I'd seen before, showing an angel nailed to a stake.
One of the records shows a group of people kneeling on the ground, worshipping an eye-like rune in the sky.
One of the illustrations depicts a dragon peeking out from the clouds, its expression exceptionally majestic, while below, many people and those with monstrous traits flee.
These four paintings seem to form a complete story.
