Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Mind Method is Also a Form of Cultivation

Inside the training ground, Chen Jing and the experts sat facing each other.

Wan Tong, being very obedient and sensible, hid in another room and did not come over to eavesdrop.

After sitting quietly for a long time, Chen Jing felt his mind calm down. The expert opened his eyes and said, "The most essential definition of a cultivator is someone who obtains spiritual energy and uses it for their own benefit."

"To absorb spiritual energy, one may need meditation techniques or to ingest elixirs."

"As for meditation, now that you have ingested the black pill, your spiritual energy should be stable. You only need to focus a little and immerse your mind in the outside world to see spiritual energy that others cannot see."

Chen Jing nodded subconsciously; he had noticed this as soon as he woke up this morning.

Ignoring Chen Jing's subtle actions, the expert continued, "In the outside world, most of the time, the spiritual energy between heaven and earth has long since disappeared, either absorbed or transformed into sediment. However, in the ancient Song Dynasty, in this fog caused by the ruins of war, there is still a thin layer of spiritual energy."

"To absorb spiritual energy, one only needs to focus the mind, use willpower to guide the threads of mist."

"However, one cannot ingest spiritual energy indiscriminately, as spiritual energy is categorized."

"The Great Dao has fifty spirits. If one is removed, forty-nine remain. Subtracting the number of the Heavenly Cycle of thirty-six, the remaining thirteen are the types of spiritual energy."

"Each person can only ingest the same type of spiritual energy. What kind of spiritual energy you can ingest is determined at the time of your birth or when you first absorb spiritual energy."

"If one ingests other types of spiritual energy, at best one's cultivation will be difficult to advance even an inch, and at worst one will suffer from qi deviation and die on the spot."

As Chen Jing listened, he became a little worried that he had already ingested other types of spiritual energy. When he was escaping in the dock area, he had no choice but to subconsciously absorb external spiritual energy to maintain the balance of spiritual energy depletion.

"The types of spiritual energy can be divided into: battle energy, ink energy, speech energy, heaven energy, void energy, silence energy, cosmic energy, Dao energy, destiny energy, change energy, witch energy, and spirit energy."

Chen Jing silently counted in his mind—only twelve! Wasn't it supposed to be thirteen? But he didn't ask. He knew that experts didn't like being interrupted during lectures; he could ask them later.

"Regardless of the type of spiritual energy, the criteria for classifying cultivation levels are roughly the same."

"The initial intake of spiritual energy, but not enough to solidify, is like a fish swimming in the blood. This is called the Body Realm. The extraordinary talents that others refer to are of this level."

“The spiritual energy solidifies and swims within the body like a fish, which is called the Blood Realm.”

"After the Blood Realm comes the Core Realm, after the Core Realm comes the Qi Realm, and after the Qi Realm there are further ranks, but you don't need to know too much about them, so as to avoid being overly ambitious!"

“In this day and age, spiritual energy is scarce, and those at the Dan realm can be considered strong.”

“Each rank and each type of spiritual energy has different characteristics and features, as well as different abilities and techniques. In addition, combat awareness, the Daoist scriptures learned, the spiritual weapons used, the Daoist patterns possessed, etc., will also lead to subtle differences in the combat style of each cultivator.”

The expert slowly introduced the information, and the sheer volume of data presented made Chen Jing want to grab a notebook and take notes.

"Having discussed spiritual energy, its types, how to ingest it, and precautions, let's now talk about how to master it."

"The reason why cultivators are not called Qi Refiners like in the pre-Qin period is because they have mastered spiritual energy."

"Without a corresponding mindset, practitioners are easily assimilated by the spiritual energy they absorb and transformed into slaves of the Dao! In the pre-Qin era, such slaves of the Dao were not uncommon. It can be said that all Qi cultivators at that time were slaves of the Dao! It was just that the degree varied, some more severe than others."

"Becoming a slave to the Dao is a form of going astray in cultivation. There are often rumors that some people kill their fathers and wives and sever all relationships with those around them in order to seek the Dao. Others disregard those who had all their past connections with them in order to seek the Dao. All of these are symbols of becoming a slave to the Dao and becoming cold and ruthless."

Chen Jing looked at the serious-looking expert and thought to himself, "Master, you're so cold-hearted..." But after hearing the rest, he realized the difference between the two.

That's human nature!

"This situation was alleviated after the invention of the cultivation method and the establishment of the sect. Spiritual energy can change one's mind and personality, but the cultivation method can help you maintain your original mind." The expert said, "The sect has a rule that those who have not mastered the cultivation method and subdued spiritual energy are not allowed to forcibly absorb spiritual energy and advance to the next level."

Chen Jing finally couldn't help but ask, "Then can I obtain the cultivation technique?"

Instead of answering the question, the expert continued, "Our sect is inherited from the Sword Pavilion. The Sword Pavilion specializes in cultivating battle spirit, and its core principles can be summarized in sixteen characters: Fight against heaven and earth, never yield, challenge the extreme, and surpass yourself."

Sword Pavilion… Chen Jing clicked his tongue in amazement. Sword Pavilion was the most famous sect in the Song Dynasty and one of the three major state religions of the Song Dynasty.

The three major state religions of the Song Dynasty were Jian Ge, Mo Men, and Confucianism. The latter two also had branches in other countries and were passed down. For example, Mo Men is now the Mo family and has influence in countries such as Lan Dynasty and An Dynasty. Confucianism is now completely under the jurisdiction of An Dynasty. However, Jian Ge is completely rooted in the Song Dynasty.

The sword at Jianmen Pass was broken, and the Song Dynasty perished.

Chen Jing thought that, based on the previously mentioned categories of spiritual energy, the Mo Sect probably uses the Qi of Ink, the Sword Pavilion uses the Qi of War, and what about the Confucian Sect? Is it the Qi of Words or the Qi of Change?

Different types of spiritual energy cannot be absorbed. In other words, sects that absorb different types of spiritual energy can form alliances, while sects that absorb the same type of spiritual energy are competitors... Chen Jing used his pre-transmigration thinking to wander aimlessly.

Inherited from Sword Pavilion, that means it's not Sword Pavilion itself, but a small sect that originated from Sword Pavilion... Chen Jing was slightly disappointed. He thought he was the last successor to destroy a sect, but after thinking about it carefully, this might not be a bad thing. When Sword Pavilion grows stronger, it will definitely have many enemies and rivals.
