Chen Jing entered the obelisk and walked along each side of it, his fingers tracing the sculptures on the obelisk. Following the image in his memory, he found several places where he could press down.
The obelisk has four scenes in total, and each scene has a hidden button:
"Disaster clouds descended over the city";
"The forehead of an angel nailed to a stake";
“A symbol resembling the eye of the sky being worshipped”;
"Peering out from the clouds, looking down at the dragon heads of the demon race on the ground."
As Chen Jing pressed the four symbols one by one, he heard various friction sounds from the mechanical start-up.
He pushed back a distance, cautiously entering a state of noise invisibility, watching the obelisk slowly move and open a downward entrance.
Chen Jing raised his hand and pulled, drawing out the phantom of Huang Yuanlong carrying a lamp from the air, illuminating the stone steps below with his light.
A long, gray stone staircase descends into the darkness, where no one knows where.
Chen Jing remained vigilant. He remembered that in the vision given by the Source of Darkness, when he appeared near the altar, he was covered in blood.
This indicates that the passage below may be dangerous.
Chen Jing pulled out of the isolated city and carefully followed behind "Phantom Huang Yuanlong," slowly descending the steps.
On both sides of the descending steps, countless yellowed talismans were pasted up, with crooked red lines drawn on them. The lines were bright red, like blood.
As Chen Jing walked, he suddenly smelled a faint scent of blood.
The smell of blood seemed to come from the distant darkness, and also from his side.
The ominous smell brought on a feeling of nausea and subconscious fear, which made Chen Jing's attention completely focused.
"Is there blood down there?"
Chen Jing became increasingly focused and cautious.
After walking down the stairs for a while, the straight path turned into a spiral staircase that spiraled downwards. This forced Chen Jing to shorten the distance between himself and the phantom Huang Yuanlong, because Chen Jing could not control illusions outside his perception range. Moreover, he could not use illusions to gain the senses of the people created by the illusions.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, the stench of blood grew stronger and stronger. He focused all his attention on the passage below, ready to be attacked by any terrifying monster that might suddenly appear.
After turning another arc and descending, Chen Jing's eyes narrowed.
At this moment, the ground of the steps had changed from the gray of rock to a blood-stained red.
A strong, pungent smell of blood emanated from the crimson "velvet" fabric, filling Chen Jing's nostrils.
Chen Jingshen breathed heavily, adjusted his state, suppressed his fear, and continued forward.
Huang Yuanlong, standing ahead, cast a long shadow in the light of the lantern. This shadow stretched over Chen Jing, adding to the darkness of Chen Jing, who was already invisible to the noise.
Huang Yuanlong walked on the blood-red "velvet," each step splashing up waves of blood, like moving forward in a shallow puddle.
Chen Jing felt increasingly uneasy; the terrifying feeling resonated within his reason and intuition, making him want to turn around and run away several times.
But he overcame this feeling through his own willpower.
Suddenly, Chen Jing felt raindrops falling on his hair and shoulders.
Raindrops? How could there be raindrops on the ground?
Chen Jing subconsciously looked up, and with the help of the glowing phantom lantern carried by Huang Yuanlong in front of him, he saw a terrifying scene:
They were clusters of flesh-colored, cocoon-like objects suspended above the steps. They were not smooth and flat, but rather full of wrinkles and scars. And the "raindrops" were dark blood dripping from the wounds on them!
Fear filled Chen Jing's mind, and at that moment, he reacted instinctively.
Retreat backwards while using Shadow Cloak!
He successfully exited the blood's range, and Huang Yuanlong's shadow just happened to linger on it.
Chen Jing looked at the shadows on the blood ahead, and as if realizing something, his expression suddenly changed drastically.
Huang Yuanlong's illusion was created by himself; how could an illusion have a shadow?
Because the blood and stench of blood had put him under tremendous mental stress when he arrived here, Chen Jing had previously overlooked this point!
Chen Jing raised his hand, intending to dispel the already invisible phantom of Huang Yuanlong.
But then the stairs ahead lit up again.
It looked like someone was carrying a lantern and walking upstairs.
Chen Jing has completely eliminated the spiritual power that was maintaining Huang Yuanlong's illusion!
Finally, Chen Jing saw the figure coming up.
The man had sword-like eyebrows, thin, tightly pursed lips, a square chin, a scar on his left cheek, a long beard, and an expressionless face. He wore dark green leather armor, held a sword in one hand and a lantern in the other.
It was none other than Huang Yuanlong's likeness, created by Chen Jing!
Unlike Huang Yuanlong, his eyes were pitch black, with only pupils and no whites, a typical characteristic of a wandering spirit.
As soon as he saw Chen Jing, he threw the lantern at Chen Jing.
At the same time, he seemed to transform into a gray goose, skimming across the ground and rushing towards Chen Jing.
"The illusions I created with my magic have turned into real, wandering spirits?!"
"I've already entered a state of noise invisibility, how did he find me?!"
A jumble of thoughts exploded in Chen Jing's mind.
At such a moment, the only thing that comes into play is the combat instinct and combat intuition that Chen Jing had honed through countless trials with experts.
He turned to the side, raised his lone city, and without using any martial arts, instinctively met the lantern and sword that were thrown at him.
puff!
Huang Yuanlong poked a hole in the paper lantern, and the lamp oil and flame inside spilled out.
Huang Yuanlong's sword ignited, setting the remaining lamp oil ablaze. The splattered oil turned into countless sparks that hurtled towards Chen Jing.
