Chapter 46 Unable to Win Over the Public

Listening to the commotion behind him, Chen Jing felt something was amiss.

"Why should I?!"

Who is he?

"That guy who was very lucky to survive the slave ghosts."

"Is he a person with extraordinary abilities?"

"No, mortals."

"Then what qualifications does he have to lead us?"

Whispers came from behind.

Chen Jing thought to himself, "I'm already a Blood Realm cultivator. If I said that, it would scare you to death. Why would I need to explain to you mortals?" He sneered inwardly, took a step forward, and bowed with his hands clasped.

"Lord Black Hand! I am not knowledgeable enough and I fear I am not qualified to serve in such an important position."

At this point, the voices of the people behind Chen Jing quieted down considerably, all waiting for Lu Gang, the mastermind, to speak.

Lu Gang, the mastermind, extended his right hand, fingers together, and made a downward sliding gesture. With that inexplicable aura, the people behind Chen Jing quieted down, and even Chen Jing himself was calmed down, feeling his heart become more peaceful and stable.

“I’ve already seen your files,” said Lu Gang, the Black Hand.

Lu Gang, the Black Hand, spent several seconds trying to remember who Chen Jing was, until he overheard their discussion and realized that this person had survived from the clutches of the slave souls.

At this moment, Mo Wujiang covered his mouth, preventing his voice from directly reaching Lu Gang's ears:

"He encountered the spirit of a slave while hunting, sounded the alarm, and lured it away for quite some time, delaying the hunt so long that his hunting party did not suffer any losses."

"Let him be in charge of planning. No matter how the plan is planned, many people will die anyway, and they are not our own people. If it causes anger, let him take the blame in the end to calm people down."

After speaking, Mo Wujiang quietly flicked his sleeve, and many ashes fell to the ground.

On the surface, Lu Gang, the mastermind, seemed to pause for a few seconds to gather his thoughts, but in reality, he was listening to Mo Wujiang's message.

He continued:

“He has extensive experience, including the ability to single-handedly lure away the souls of slaves and keep them alive. None of you are as experienced a lure as him.”

He then turned to Chen Jing:

"I believe you can do it. Everyone goes from being young to mature."

Lu Gang, the mastermind, only said two sentences. If he said any more, he would lose his status and fall behind.

Chen Jing felt the intense trust in his tone, and tears welled up in his eyes involuntarily. He was overwhelmed with emotion, feeling a deep sense of loyalty and willingness to risk his life for him.

"A Qi Realm cultivator is terrifying... This is even with some reservations and wariness towards him in my heart. If I didn't, I might have already bowed down and submitted..." Chen Jing thought to himself, while he pretended to tremble with excitement, clenching his fists tightly and trying his best to make his eyes bright, and shouted loudly:

"Yes, sir!"

...

After the inspirational speech, Chen Jing was summoned to the military camp to participate in a meeting to plan the operation.

Chen Jing had never done planning before, but he had participated in and observed the hunting party when they were planning.

A hunting party doesn't have many members, and there are very few people to lure monsters. Each person is responsible for a few directions. In fact, once you get used to it, there's no need for a specific plan.

The monster lureer typically only does three things.

First, lure the intended monster to the hunting grounds.

Second, during the hunt, lure away any disturbing monsters, and have other lures take over.

Third, when encountering a powerful monster that is too difficult to defeat, sound an alarm to alert the team, while trying to buy as much time as possible.

In fact, when Chen Jing observed the hunting team setting up their plan, they were setting up a comprehensive plan. The general hunting process was as follows: first, the reconnaissance team would pre-clear the designated hunting grounds, and then the core hunting team would clear them. During this time, the monster lurers would protect the reconnaissance team and the core hunting team, drawing away powerful monsters. Then, the logistics personnel would begin setting up the terrain and traps. Once the official hunt began, the monster lurers would lead the designated monsters into the hunting grounds and simultaneously begin guarding the surrounding area.

Despite the numerous job categories, due to manpower shortages and individual abilities, many people can hold multiple roles. Many are reconnaissance team members, core combat group members, and also handle logistics. Most monster lures also act as logistics personnel, setting up their own "tracks" and "traps."

But Chen Jing soon realized that he couldn't even be a mere observer at the meeting; he was there to receive a task and accept assignments.

There was a very large and detailed overhead map in the military camp, which looked like the ruined city of "Meijing" before the disaster. Many places were marked with red circles. Chen Jing looked at it from a distance and saw that places such as "Arena", "Shangshui Street", and "Meijing Taoist Temple" were marked with red circles.

"Quite professional..." Chen Jing thought to himself. He himself didn't have such a good map in his original hunting group; all the maps were simple ones drawn by the group's own members.

Those areas circled in red... are places where dangerous monsters exist. As far as Chen Jing knows, the arena used to be inhabited by "slave spirits," groups of "back-spiked crab claw monsters" roamed Shangshui Street, and "maple leaf banshees" lived in the Meijing Taoist Temple...

These powerful monsters were originally territorial and rarely roamed around, but the slave spirits were the only exception...

When Mo Wujiang saw Chen Jing come in, he said, "You take the people who will participate in the trial, divide them into groups, and explore this area, this area, and this area."

He pointed to the map, and Chen Jing looked at it and found that it was the area around the arena, the area that originally belonged to Chen Jing's hunting group, and several areas had been expanded outwards.

“We will arrive here first.” Mo Wujiang pointed to a location, which Chen Jing looked over to see: it was the former inner city watchtower of Meijing City. “This is the hunting ground that has been set up in advance.”
