Chapter 22 Ning Yao! Now I'm even going into your room...

Chapter 22 Ning Yao! Now I'm even going into your room...

Ning Yiwen held her ankle and gently took off her shoes.

"Ouch...it hurts, it hurts..." Ning Yao cried out softly.

This forced Ning Yiwen to soften his movements even more.

The shoes were taken off, exposing the fair and tender feet, with the red, swollen toes oozing blood, a shocking sight.

Ning Yiwen's pupils dilated slightly, his temples suddenly tightened, and his large hand holding Ning Yao's ankle involuntarily tightened.

"It's that serious!" Ning Yao gasped.

Ning Yao's reaction made Ning Yiwen feel even more suffocated!

"You're in so much pain, how could you not know how serious it is?" Ning Yiwen said angrily.

With nowhere to vent the anger that was stuck in my chest, I couldn't help but start nagging!

Ning Yao sat ramrod straight, obediently listening to his rambling. Every now and then she would swallow hard, her face looking like a partridge, not daring to say another word.

Ning Yiwen looked at her obedient and receptive appearance, but in reality, the words went in one ear and out the other. Knowing that she wouldn't listen to much no matter how much he nagged, he finally quieted down and carefully treated her wound.

First, I carefully wiped the blood off her foot with a damp, clean cloth, then applied anti-swelling ointment, avoiding the bleeding areas. Finally, I took another clean cloth and wrapped it around the ball of her foot.

Ning Yao looked at the bandage and wiggled her feet from side to side. "Brother Ning, you've wrapped me up like a dumpling. How am I supposed to walk like this?"

Ning Yiwen said irritably, "Where do you think you're going? Go back to your room and get some rest."

Then, he turned around and squatted down in front of her.

"Come up."

"Okay." Ning Yao responded with a verbal command followed by a physical action.

Looking at the broad shoulders in front of her, Ning Yao didn't hold back. With a push of one leg, she pounced onto Ning Yiwen's back.

He couldn't even control his strength.

Ning Yiwen was slightly swayed by her lunge, but quickly regained his balance.

He grasped her knees with both hands, steadily stood up, carried her on his back, and prepared to take her to Ning Yao's room.

"Lift the curtain," Ning Yiwen said slowly as he stopped in front of Ning Yao's room.

Ning Yao hesitated for a moment, "Wait, Brother Ning!"

Her room is still messy and hasn't been tidied up!

But upon hearing her words, Ning Yiwen finally couldn't hold back the anger she had been holding in all night.

"Ning Yao! Now I can't even enter your room, is that it?" Ning Yiwen said in a muffled voice.

As she spoke, she poured out all the frustration she had been holding in for the past few days.

"You get up to make me breakfast, and you have to go to and from school by yourself. You even have to thank me for writing you some information... Ning Yao, why are we so distant!"

Ning Yao froze as if she had been struck by a pressure point. She was only lightly supporting Ning Yiwen's shoulder, but now she was completely stiff.

Her hand landed firmly, grabbing the shirt on his shoulder.

"There's no awkwardness... Brother Ning, there isn't," Ning Yao whispered in defense.

She did all this quietly, and Ning-ge knew it all.

She's so stupid.

She just wanted to become independent quietly, hoping that one day she could surprise Ning Ge and let him know that she had grown up.

But now, after only a few days, the little tricks they made have been brought to the forefront.

She felt a strange sense of shame.

This feeble explanation and silence, in Ning Yiwen's eyes, became an admission of guilt.

Ning Yiwen said in a deep voice, "Answer me."

Ning Yao looked dejected, like a flower that had been touched by frost, and pouted as she said, "Brother Ning, I just want to learn to be independent."

As she spoke, she thought for a moment and added softly, "Actually, Brother Ning, I used to say thank you a lot too."

She is a very polite child and never fails to thank Ning Ge just because he is close to her.

Ning Ge seems to be overthinking this; it needs to be addressed separately.

She denies this charge.

Ning Yiwen: "..." So you've learned to talk back now, huh?

Before Ning Yiwen could speak, Ning Yao raised her head, pinched his shoulder, looked at his handsome profile, and timidly continued to argue.

"So, Brother Ning, does that mean I won't be independent anymore?"

Ning Yao was very self-aware. She wasn't a good cook, needed help going to school, and even seemed to have trouble drying her hair properly.

Moreover, she doesn't yet have enough confidence in supporting herself.

It seems she still has a long way to go when it comes to independence.

independent?

Independence is good, but is this what independence should look like?

Ning Yiwen was not led astray by her.

He glanced sideways at Ning Yao, who looked timid but didn't seem to think she had done anything wrong.

I was so angry I almost laughed.

He probably said the opposite: "Does your so-called independence mean being a complete stranger to me? Creating a chasm between us?"

Ning Yao shook her head, then nodded.

She didn't want to become strangers to Ning Ge, but maintaining a little distance was necessary.

It's just not as wide as a chasm.

Ning Yao said, "Brother Ning, I just feel that since we are siblings..."

“Who’s your brother or sister!” Ning Yiwen blurted out, interrupting Ning Yao.

Ning Yao's eyes widened. "Brother Ning, then...then I..."

She became somewhat incoherent for a moment.

She stared at Ning Yiwen with her eyes open.

Ning is acting really strange today.

He is usually calm and concise, always saying just the right thing and stopping short of saying anything.

But I've said too much today.

This left Ning Yao feeling somewhat lost.

Everything she does is carefully considered; it's not something she does without a purpose.

But Ning-ge doesn't seem to want her to be independent?

Ning Yao thought for a moment and then asked directly.

"Brother Ning, I want to be independent, I want to learn to live on my own, and I want to have a job that I really like. Am I wrong?"

Ning Yiwen lowered his eyes, his throat bobbing slightly, and it took him a long time to reply.

"Your idea is correct."

Ning Yao immediately perked up and laughed, "Then I didn't do anything wrong."

Yes, you're right.

Ning Yiwen lowered his eyelids, opened his mouth but couldn't utter a single word.

She is growing up in the way he imagined.

But why is he unhappy?

He lowered his head, lifted the curtain with his head, and walked straight into Ning Yao's room. He carefully placed her on a chair.

Then he stood quietly in place, looking down at Ning Yao sitting in the chair.

A multitude of complex thoughts flashed rapidly through his eyes, so complex that even he himself could hardly understand them.

Ning Yiwen clenched his fist and said in a low voice, "Do you need to wash up before going to sleep?"

Upon hearing this, Ning Yao knew that this matter was finally over.

God knows, she was most afraid of Ning Ge getting angry.

"No need." After saying that, she took Ning Yiwen's hand and assured him, "Brother Ning, don't worry, even if I become independent, you will still be my Brother Ning."

Ning Yiwen's gaze shifted from her hopeful expression to the hand she was holding.

He slowly hummed in agreement.

The worry between his brows lessened a little.

“Then I’ll take you back to bed,” Ning Yiwen said.

He was supposed to be supporting her hand, but he changed his grip halfway through, as if he had gained some self-awareness.

He bent down, supporting her knees with one hand and wrapping the other around the back of her neck, lifting her up in his arms.

Ning Yao was startled and instinctively hooked her arms around his neck.

"Brother Ning..."

She had never been held like that before.

When I was little, the most I ever did was the same thing as before: being carried on Ning's back.

At this moment, she gripped Ning Yiwen's clothes tightly, her eyes filled with confusion.

Ning Yiwen didn't say anything, but silently led the person to the bed.

Was he going to tell her that he himself didn't know why he did it?

"have a good rest."

After saying that, he turned and left.

Ning Yao raised her hand and touched the back of her head, feeling a strange sensation.

But I can't quite put my finger on it.

Ning is acting really strange today.

Ning Yao summarized the situation and then picked up the blanket beside her.

Cover yourself up and go to sleep.

Even the biggest problems can wait until tomorrow.

I slept without any dreams.

Unbeknownst to her, Ning Yiwen tossed and turned in her room, unable to fall asleep.

He got up, lit a lamp, and looked at the note Xu Zheng had slipped to him.

The fingernails tapped lightly on the table.

After a moment's thought, I instantly understood the whole story.

So he grabbed the note and went out in the dark.

*

The next day, when Ning Yao woke up, the first thing she did was check the injury on her foot.

After a night of recovery, the thumb was still very swollen, but it had stopped bleeding.

Ning Yao stood up on the ground.

I tried putting my foot down, and it didn't hurt that much.

It doesn't seem to hinder her walking.

But after she put on the shoes and took only two steps, the pain from the shoes rubbing against her swollen toes made her face contort in agony.

Just then, Ning Yiwen lifted her curtain and saw her gritting her teeth and quietly crying out in pain.

Ning Yiwen: "Who told you to get down and walk! Don't you want your feet anymore?"

He gave Ning Yao a stern scolding and made her sit back down in her chair.

"I'll ask the school to give you two days off. Don't go to school for now. Just stay home and rest."

Ning Yao: "..."

She's only been independent for a few days, and now she can't even go to school.

Ning Yao silently criticized herself in her heart, and her face naturally showed a displeased expression.

"What? You don't agree? You want to go to school on one leg?" Ning Yiwen teased, noticing his displeased expression.

Ning Yao quickly shook her head and waved her hands, "No, no."

She put on a very happy look, "I used to always think about not going to school, and now I finally have this opportunity. I'm so happy."

Ning Yiwen sneered inwardly.

"You stay home and behave yourself. I'll go to the school and tell the teacher first."

Ning Yao nodded obediently.

He even raised his hand, "Um, Brother Ning, should I go see a doctor?"

Ning Yiwen glanced down at her feet, thinking to himself, "It's good to take a look."

So he nodded and said, "I'll fetch a doctor for you in a bit."

"A while?" Ning Yao was taken aback.

Ning Yiwen: "I'll also take leave. I'll stay home with you."

Ning Yao: "Huh?"

"What, you're not happy about it?"

Ning Yao: "No, no. It's just that I'm worried this might interfere with your studies, Brother Ning."

Ning Yiwen: "No."

He didn't always go back to his own class after dropping Ning Yao off at school.

Ning Yao was simply unaware of these things.

After Ning Yiwen left, Ning Yao lay listlessly on the table.

On weekdays, attending classes, doing homework, and studying take up all of her time.

Suddenly having a few days of free time, she didn't know what to do with herself.

Do you want to read a book?

Ning Yao flipped through the pages of the book with a rustling sound, somewhat reluctant to read.

I want to play.
