Chapter 52 Couple Pajamas

Chapter 52 Couple Pajamas

Peng Chengyi's breath hitched, and she hurriedly nodded repeatedly like a chick pecking at rice: "Yes, yes, yes! Of course I can take responsibility!"

Chen Yubai's long, narrow eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze seeming to deepen, and his voice was hoarse: "Is that so? Then how do you plan to take responsibility?"

"I'll take you to the best doctors! I'll save up to reimburse all your medical expenses!" she promised rapidly, almost without thinking. "It absolutely won't affect your future marriage and having children!"

Chen Yubai's expression shifted complexly for a moment, then he seemed to laugh in exasperation, scoffed, and turned his face away: "...Alright, it's nothing."

"oh……"

Peng Chengyi suddenly breathed a sigh of relief, her heart still pounding in her chest.

Seeing how much pain he was in just now, she truly believed she had committed a terrible crime.

Fortunately, it was just a false alarm.

Otherwise, wouldn't she have to bear the responsibility of his "lifelong happiness" no matter where she goes in the future?

If she really can't be cured, she'll have to explain to her future boyfriend that this is a sin she committed when she was young, and she can't abandon him.

If the other party doesn't accept it, then she'll probably have no choice but to break up.

My God, what a terrible and heavy trajectory of fate this is!

Peng Chengyi touched her chest with lingering fear, then stole a glance at Chen Yubai beside her.

He stared at the television screen, his expression still not very good.

Ah... boys are really so fragile.

She never dared to fight him for the controller again.

-

The snow outside the window fell heavily and continued until midnight before gradually stopping.

When I woke up the next morning, the world outside was covered in silver, and the sunlight shone on the snow, reflecting a dazzling light.

After breakfast, Peng Chengyi picked up her phone and opened her WeChat chat with Chen Yubai.

Just as I was about to ask him if he wanted to go out and play in the snow, there was a "knock knock" on the door.

Upon opening the door, Chen Yubai and Zhang Yang were standing outside.

Chen Yubai wore a simple black down jacket, her figure was upright, and her wisps of hair fell in front of her forehead, making her skin look even whiter.

Zhang Yang, standing to the side, was wrapped in a bright blue thick coat, with some unmelted snow still clinging to the edge of his hat, clearly having just come from the snow.

Zhang Yang immediately noticed the striking onesie pajamas she was wearing and his eyes widened: "Peng Chengyi! What are you wearing?!"

He pointed at the light yellow Psyduck pajamas, suppressing a laugh, his shoulders shaking.

"Psyduck! You don't even recognize it? Did your childhood get eaten by a dog?" Peng Chengyi pouted in dissatisfaction.

"I know it's Psyduck, but wearing it... it's really kind of funny!" Zhang Yang finally couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"Tch, she's obviously super cute, you just don't know how to appreciate it." Peng Chengyi spun around, deliberately showing off the three little tufts of hair on her hat.

Chen Yubai, who had been silent all along, observed her for a moment before slowly speaking, "Why did you get yourself all covered in this?"

"Because...because there's a 20% discount if you buy two items..." Peng Chengyi pursed her lips, avoiding his gaze somewhat guiltily.

Afraid that he would continue to press her for answers, she quickly changed the subject: "What are you two doing here?"

"Want to come play in the snow?" Zhang Yang gestured with his chin at her. "Are you coming or not?"

"Let's go! I was just about to send you guys a WeChat message!" Peng Chengyi's eyes lit up as she excitedly said, "Wait a minute, I'll change my clothes and come out!"

As she happily ran back to her room, tossing her Psyduck hat around, Zhang Yang nudged Chen Yubai with his elbow and asked in a low voice with a smile, "Did you get a Pokémon onesie pajama set from Peng Chengyi too?"

"Hmm," Chen Yubai replied expressionlessly.

"Pfft, why didn't I see you wearing it this morning? Otherwise, I would definitely have taken a picture!" Zhang Yang teased with a laugh.

"That's so childish," Chen Yubai scoffed, his tone clearly showing disdain. "Who would wear something like that?"

"Wearing them would just make us look like couples!" Zhang Yang said tentatively, winking.

Chen Yubai paused subtly for a moment, glanced at him sideways, and coldly uttered two words: "Crazy."

-

After changing her clothes and going downstairs, Peng Chengyi excitedly rushed into the soft, white snow and started rolling snowballs and building a snowman.

Wearing thick cotton gloves, she laboriously rolled the first large snowball into a body shape, exhaling puffs of white breath.

"Chen Yubai, don't just stand there like an idiot, come and help me roll the snowball." She turned her head and glanced at Chen Yubai, who was standing motionless at the entrance of the stairwell.

He put his hands in his down jacket pockets, stared at her rosy cheeks for a moment, then sighed silently and walked over to her.

There seemed to be an unspoken understanding between the two. He was responsible for laying the foundation and building the main structure, while she happily went to find pebbles and twigs to give the snowman eyes, a mouth, and arms. She even took off her scarf and wrapped it around the snowman.

Before long, a round-headed little snowman with a few twigs as arms stood there in a cute way.

Looking at their collaborative work, Peng Chengyi clapped his hands in satisfaction, stood up, his nose red from the cold, but his eyes sparkling, and said, "Great job, let me take a picture."

As she spoke, she took off her gloves and pulled her phone out of her pocket.

"Come on, let's have a snowball fight!" Zhang Yang, who had been waiting impatiently, shouted as he bent down and made a solid snowball, eager to try.

"Isn't it childish?" Chen Yubai chuckled lazily.

"Hey!" Zhang Yang straightened up, pointing disapprovingly at the newly made snowman, "So it's not childish for her to build a snowman? Yu-ge, that's blatant bias..."

Before he could finish speaking, Chen Yubai had already bent down with lightning speed, grabbed a handful of snow, squeezed it tightly, and accurately threw it onto Zhang Yang's bright blue coat, scattering it into a white flower.

"Damn it! Brother Yu, you ambushed me!" Zhang Yang shouted, immediately bending down and frantically stockpiling ammunition, and a snowball fight broke out instantly.

Nearby, Peng Chengyi was still taking pictures in a peaceful moment when Zhang Yang threw a cold snowball that hit her on the back of the neck with a "thud".

"Ah! Zhang Yang, you're finished!" Peng Chengyi was jolted by the cold and jumped away with a scream, frantically trying to shake the snow out of her hat.

Upon seeing this, Chen Yubai almost instinctively changed the direction of the snowball in his hand and flew directly towards Zhang Yang.

Peng Chengyi immediately put away her phone, grabbed a handful of snow, haphazardly kneaded it into a ball, and joined the fray. She and Chen Yubai formed a tacit pincer attack and began a fierce assault on Zhang Yang.

Zhang Yang was hit by snowballs from both of them at the same time. He ran away while covering his head and yelling, "Hey, hey, hey! What are you two doing? Working together as a couple? Are you bullying me all by yourself?!"

Peng Chengyi's cheeks flushed, and he threw another snowball at her mercilessly: "Don't misuse idioms! This is brotherhood, we're united against a common enemy!"

"Brothers?!" Zhang Yang pointed exaggeratedly at himself, his expression one of utter anguish. "Aren't I a brother?! What happened to our four years of unwavering brotherhood as classmates?! You're just going to exclude me like this?!"

Peng Chengyi raised her chin and retorted confidently, "What's four years? We've known each other for seventeen years!"

The sunlight shone on her slightly flushed face, and tiny snowflakes clung to her eyelashes, sparkling brightly.

"Alright, alright, your brotherhood is even stronger, you guys are amazing..." Zhang Yang was speechless after being cornered for seventeen years. Finally, unable to withstand the intense barrage from the two, he wiped the snow from his face in a disheveled state and begged for mercy, panting, "Let's... let's call a truce! I unilaterally declare a ceasefire! I'm exhausted..."

"Hmph, that's more like it." Peng Chengyi patted the snow off her hands and sat down on a nearby bench, looking a little tired. "What are we going to do next? There's still more than an hour until lunch."

Zhang Yang, leaning on his knees and panting heavily, suggested, "How about we go to Yu Ge's house to play games? It'll be warmer there."

"I played at his house all afternoon yesterday, and I'm a bit too tired to play anymore." Peng Chengyi shook his head, indicating his refusal.

Zhang Yang straightened up and thought for a moment: "Well... how about we go check out that newly opened music store behind the park? I heard they've got a lot of new stock."

"That works!" Peng Chengyi's eyes lit up, and she immediately jumped up from the bench. "I was just thinking of buying some picks of different thicknesses, let's go!"

Zhang Yang slumped back against the bench, saying, "Let me rest a bit more... my legs are still weak..."

Chen Yubai scoffed and succinctly uttered two words: "Useless."

"No, Brother Yu, be reasonable!" Zhang Yang pointed at the two of them, feeling wronged. "It was two against one just now! I'm already doing a great job of holding out for so long!"

“Who told you to insist on having a snowball fight in the first place?” Peng Chengyi crossed her arms and stood next to Chen Yubai. “You clearly asked for trouble.”

Zhang Yang: "..."

Well, it seems the two-on-one situation remains unchanged.

He resignedly got up from the bench, patted the snow off his bottom, and said, "Fine, I'll go... but you two have to buy me milk tea to soothe my wounded heart and frozen body."

Peng Chengyi shrank back: "Let Chen Yubai treat you, I'm poor." Chen Yubai didn't say anything, but silently took out his phone from his pocket: "What do you want to drink? Order it on the mini-program first."

Peng Chengyi immediately poked her head out: "Can I come with you?"

Chen Yubai glanced at her, and she quickly added sweetly, "Brother."

He chuckled almost inaudibly and handed her the phone: "Here you go."

-

Half an hour later, Peng Chengyi sipped her hot milk tea contentedly, carrying the picks and strings she had just bought, and walked briskly out of the music store.

With a quick glance, she suddenly noticed a brand-new "Spy House" themed photo booth standing in the doorway of the shop next door, featuring Anya's classic "Waaa" expression and Lloyd's handsome profile.

Her eyes lit up, and she quickly grabbed Chen Yubai, who was about to walk forward: "Wait! I want to film this!"

Chen Yubai paused, and following the direction she pointed, glanced inside through the glass door.

Zhang Yang, who was standing nearby, leaned over and said with a puzzled look, "Isn't this just a photo booth? With so many selfie functions on phones these days, who would bother to spend money to take this?"

“This is different!” Peng Cheng pointed to Anya on the machine. “This is the official collaboration with Spy Family! There are no such limited edition borders and stickers in phone filters!”

"What is 'Spy Playing House'?" Zhang Yang was even more confused.

"It's a super popular animation right now! It's really good!" Peng Chengyi tried to recommend it.

“Peng Chengyi,” Zhang Yang couldn’t help but laugh and teased, “You’re almost eighteen years old, why are you still watching cartoons?”

"I'm not watching those childish cartoons!" Peng Chengyi glared at him irritably.

"What is 'children's entertainment'?" Zhang Yang tilted his head.

"I'm too lazy to explain to someone as tasteless as you!" Peng Chengyi snorted.

"Brother Yu," Zhang Yang immediately turned to the other side for help, "Peng Chengyi said I have no taste!"

Chen Yubai glanced at him expressionlessly, turned around calmly, and pushed open the glass door of the shop: "You really don't have it."

"..."

Oh, I almost forgot.

These two are the real brothers; he's just a figurehead.

Zhang Yang's lips twitched slightly, and he followed inside speechlessly.

Peng Chengyi excitedly tapped on the screen of the photo booth, but upon seeing the price, he gasped in shock. He quickly lifted the curtain of the booth, poked his head out, and said to the two people waiting outside, "Let's take photos together! Thirty yuan per person is too expensive!"

"Then you two take the picture, I won't get involved. I'll just stand in the middle like a third wheel, it'll be an eyesore." Zhang Yang crossed his arms, his tone sarcastic.

Seeing his expression, Peng Chengyi couldn't help but laugh: "No way! You're one of our good brothers too, we have to go together!"

Zhang Yang reluctantly followed Chen Yubai into the somewhat cramped photo booth.

After paying, they took three sets of background photos, which were funny and cheerful, until the last one, a huge heart-shaped border, suddenly turned the entire screen into an ambiguous pink.

The three of them fell into an eerie silence.

“This background… isn’t it a bit strange for the three of us to be filming?” Zhang Yang broke the silence first, already starting to shrink back. “I think I’ll go outside. You two are fine.”

"No, no, no!" Peng Chengyi quickly grabbed his arm. "It would be even stranger if you left! Wouldn't that mean we'd be taking... taking couple photos? How about I go out and you two take them?"

"No, no!" Zhang Yang immediately shook his head. "Then we'd look like we're gay! I'm a straight man!"

"Then you can leave." Chen Yubai, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up, pushing Zhang Yang out at the same time.

Caught completely off guard, Zhang Yang stumbled and fell out of the photo booth.

The curtain swayed and fell behind him. Peng Chengyi was stunned for a moment, and before she could react, she heard Chen Yubai's voice remind her calmly, "Look at the camera, the countdown is on. Hurry up and finish filming so we can go back for dinner."

"Huh? Ah... Oh!" Peng Chengyi subconsciously turned to the camera, her face still showing a trace of panic that she hadn't had time to hide.

With a click, the camera precisely captured her moment of stunned silence and bewilderment.

Without giving her a chance to back out or reshoot, Chen Yubai directly reached out and pressed the "print" button.

The photographic paper hissed out, slowly developed, and was finally cut into four neat pieces.

Peng Chengyi picked up the photo with the heart-shaped border, looked at the photo that resembled a couple with mixed feelings, and simply handed it to Chen Yubai: "This one is for you. I want to take another photo of the three of us together."

"Whatever." Chen Yubai shrugged indifferently, took it without even looking at it, and put it in the pocket of his down jacket.

-

After returning home, my attention was constantly occupied with eating and doing homework.

It wasn't until just before going to sleep that Peng Chengyi remembered to take out the two group photos of the three of them from the pocket of her cotton-padded coat hanging on the coat hanger, and carefully admired them under the warm bedside lamp.

In both photos, her expression is quite natural, and her smile is beautiful, especially in the one where the three of them are squeezed together; everyone looks particularly happy.

But suddenly, a thought popped into my mind—

The heart-shaped background in Chen Yubai's hand made her completely panic. Her expression was poorly managed, and she looked completely silly.

At the time, I just felt that the two of them being together was too ambiguous, so I subconsciously handed it to him.

But now, the more she thinks about it, the more uneasy she feels.

How could he have such unflattering photos of her?!

With that thought in mind, she immediately picked up her phone, opened WeChat, and typed: "Are you asleep?"

Chen Yubai: "No"

Peng Chengyi: "Then I'll come find you now to exchange the photos!"

Chen Yubai: "?"

Peng Chengyi was too lazy to explain further on WeChat. She grabbed a photo of the three of them, slipped on her fluffy slippers, and hurriedly ran to the opposite door to knock.

A moment later, the door was pulled open from the inside.

The first thing that catches the eye is a soft, fluffy, blue and white furry belly.

Peng Chengyi was startled. Her gaze followed the cute pajamas upwards and met Chen Yubai's lazy, drooping eyelids.

And what he was wearing was the Snorlax loungewear that he had previously despised.
