Chapter 8 A Twisted Fate
The boy's warm breath brushed against her delicate earlobe.
Peng Cheng leaned forward uncomfortably, trying to defend himself: "You're ugly, I don't want to look at you, it's an eyesore."
Chen Yubai paused, then laughed in exasperation: "Me, ugly?"
Peng Chengyi: "Or should I find you a mirror to look in?" Chen Yubai: "..."
Zhang Yang moved his lips, feeling that the topic had been started because of him, and that he should say something.
But whenever the two of them bicker, it's as if a natural barrier surrounds them, preventing outsiders from getting involved.
In the end, they had no choice but to give up, letting the two argue for almost two bus stops.
The match ended in a draw.
Seeing that Chen Yubai's expression wasn't good and he leaned back in his chair, Zhang Yang leaned over and said, "Brother Yu, I think you're still pretty handsome."
Chen Yubai slowly turned his head and glanced at him as if he were a lunatic: "Are you alright?"
Zhang Yang: "...I was just worried that you might be discouraged by Boss Peng, that's all."
"She can't possibly hurt me?" Chen Yubai scoffed, then added, "Don't call her Boss Peng anymore, I'm her brother now."
Zhang Yang was stunned: "Really? She'd give up the boss's position to you?"
He still remembers that when he first met Peng Chengyi, she was timid and spoke very little.
After less than a month, she got to know him well and started asking him to call her Boss Peng.
He found it a bit funny and asked her why.
Peng Chengyi said proudly, "Because Chen Yubai is my little brother, and you call him Brother Yu, of course you have to acknowledge me as your boss too."
He and Chen Yubai became acquainted through playing football.
Although Chen Yubai is not tall, he is very fierce on the basketball court when he first enters junior high school.
Basically, as long as you team up with him, you're guaranteed to win.
Therefore, he is very popular among the boys, and everyone respectfully calls him Brother Yu, whether there's something to talk about or not.
Therefore, Zhang Yang simply couldn't believe he would become her underling, and even went to ask him for confirmation.
Surprisingly, the answer was positive.
When asked for his reason, he remained silent for a long time before finally saying, "Do you know why I play football?"
"Isn't it because you like it?" Zhang Yang asked in surprise.
“No.” He chuckled lazily and said, “I don’t really have any hobbies. I play soccer because she loved watching ‘Captain Tsubasa’ when she was in third grade and insisted on playing with me. I just got used to it after a while.”
Zhang Yang nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.
Following the logic that she introduced Chen Yubai to football, it seemed she could outmaneuver him.
From that day on, he began to respectfully call her Boss Peng and witnessed countless moments when she used her status as boss to order Chen Yubai around.
Therefore, he didn't think she could easily give up this identity.
“Of course it’s true.” Chen Yubai said, then straightened up and gently poked her round cheek with his long, slender fingers.
"What are you up to now?" Peng Chengyi turned around irritably.
Chen Yubai: "Call me 'brother' and let me hear it."
Peng Chengyi smirked: "Idiot."
Chen Yubai: "..."
Zhang Yang: "Hahahahahaha"

The third to last stop on bus route 33 is Linbin No.1 Middle School.
Because of some traffic congestion, the three arrived a little late, and upon looking around, there were hardly any people left at the school gate.
Fearing she would be late, Peng Chengyi dragged her suitcase and started running quickly towards the campus.
"It's okay, there are still more than ten minutes, we'll make it." Chen Yubai said casually as he followed behind her, one hand in his pocket and the other dragging his suitcase.
"I don't even know where the classroom is right now, and I might be too late. I don't want to go into the classroom under everyone's stares." Peng Chengyi ran breathlessly to the bulletin board by the door, looked up at her slightly sweaty face, and quickly searched for her name on the class assignment list posted inside.
"Ah, Chen Yubai, you're in Class 7." She first noticed his name on the top line.
Chen Yubai, who had caught up, glanced at the class assignment list and said with a slight smile, "You're also in Class 7, so we're classmates again."
"Huh?"
Peng Chengyi, who was still scanning the list alphabetically by name, paused for a moment, then quickly focused her gaze back on the list of Class 7 and finally saw her own name.
"Really? How did you notice that so quickly?"
"Because I'm not as blind as you," Chen Yubai said with a slight smile.
"..."
This dog is still holding a grudge about her saying he's ugly.
I'd rather be stingy than live like this.
Peng Chengyi pursed her lips speechlessly.
"I'm in Class 9, what a coincidence that you two are so close!"
He also found the flamboyance in his own name and exclaimed.
Peng Chengyi chuckled: "A tragic fate, do you want it?"
Chen Yubai chuckled and said, "How come I remember someone was so nervous last night because they had to go to an unfamiliar class by themselves that they couldn't sleep?"
Peng Chengyi choked, turned her head and glared at him: "Shut up."
In fact, she was quite excited when she found out that she was in the same class as Chen Yubai.
Although she said she didn't care which high school he went to, she was still unhappy that he was always being compared to her.
If we really break up, I'll feel a little reluctant.
But this reluctance probably stems from long-standing habits.
After confirming the class, the three continued on to the teaching building.
In front of the building stands a statue resembling the wings of an eagle, with the school motto of No. 1 Middle School engraved in gold on the base: "Great virtue carries all things, self-improvement never stops."
Go around to the steps leading to the teaching building.
Both Class 7 and Class 9 were on the third floor, but Class 7 was at the stairwell, so the two said goodbye to Zhang Yang first and went into the classroom.
The teacher hasn't arrived yet, but almost all the students have already arrived.
The classroom was bustling with activity. Some students, like them, had suitcases, while others traveled light, carrying only a backpack, clearly day students from nearby areas.
People were either naturally friendly or already acquainted, chatting with those around them.
The seats were clearly random, as the only empty seat left was the middle seat in the first row.
Nobody wants to be sitting under a teacher's nose the moment they start school.
Chen Yubai turned his head and glanced at Peng Chengyi, who was becoming uneasy again due to the unfamiliar environment and was sticking close to him: "Shall we sit in the first row?"
"Hmm... I had no choice. I should have left earlier." Peng Chengyi pursed her lips in regret and followed Chen Yubai to the middle of the first row.
It's unclear whether it was because the two arrived last, or because Chen Yubai's height and appearance were too striking.
The classroom fell silent for a moment, and then everyone's eyes turned to look at the two of them.
Peng Chengyi lowered her eyes with increasing unease and subconsciously hid behind Chen Yubai again.
As a result, she accidentally stepped on his shoe, stumbled, and bumped her head on his back.
"It's not New Year's yet, no need to kowtow to me." Chen Yubai turned his face away with amusement.
"Who kowtowed to you? Why are you walking so slowly! Like a tortoise." Peng Chengyi covered her forehead and glared at him.
"No matter how fast you walk, you can only sit here." Chen Yubai stuffed his suitcase under the table and took off his backpack.
"Mind your own business!" Peng Chengyi snorted coldly, then put down her suitcase and sat down next to him.
Although I stumbled a bit in front of everyone, it was quite embarrassing.
But as she bickered with Chen Yubai, her initial unease was diverted.
The classroom behind her became noisy again, and it seemed that no one cared about her embarrassing moment.
Before I could even get comfortable in my chair, a short, chubby middle-aged man walked in.
He wore metal-framed glasses on his not-so-high nose bridge, and his nose tip was thick, making him look quite kind and gentle.
He picked up the blackboard eraser and patted the podium.
The noisy classroom finally quieted down completely.
"Hello everyone. My name is Chen Peifu, and I teach Chinese. I will also be the homeroom teacher for Class 7."
After a brief self-introduction, Chen Peifu asked everyone to stand up and go to the corridor to line up according to height, so that the classroom seats could be rearranged.
Peng Chengyi's height was below average in the class, so she could only stand at the front.
As Chen Yubai passed by her, he gently ruffled her hair with his large hand and chuckled lazily, teasing, "Looks like we can't be deskmates, little dwarf."
"Get lost, I don't want to be your deskmate either." Peng Chengyi scoffed and slapped his hand away.
She was eventually assigned a window seat in the second row.
As expected, Chen Yubai sat in the last row.
Peng Chengyi's new deskmate is a cool-looking girl with neat short hair, a calm face, and an unapproachable demeanor.
After giving her a brief greeting, that was the end of it; I looked down at my phone.
Although she was eager to make new friends, Peng Chengyi, unsure of how to strike up a conversation with her, could only silently take out her phone.
She subconsciously clicked on Chen Yubai's profile picture, but then worried that if she messaged him on WeChat, he would laugh at her.
After all, she told him to get lost just ten minutes ago, and now she's come back to him looking for trouble.
After fidgeting with his phone for a moment, a WeChat message from Chen Yubai suddenly popped up on the screen: "How's the view from the front?"
Peng Chengyi's tense nerves relaxed instantly, and she immediately typed on the screen to reply, "Great!"
After all, he took the initiative to contact her, so she can reply without losing face.
Chen Yubai: "Where's my new deskmate?"
Peng Chengyi: "That's great too. She's a cool girl, much more handsome than you."
Chen Yubai: "Then why don't you chat with her?"
...
Peng Chengyi, whose sore spot had been touched, paused and turned his head.
Chen Yubai was seen with his head drooping, his long legs awkwardly bracing against his suitcase under the table, and his body leaning lazily against the back of his chair.
As if sensing her gaze, he slowly lifted his eyelids.
Their eyes met across a distance of three rows.
Chen Yubai curled his lips slightly with a hint of sarcasm.
Peng Chengyi puffed out her cheeks unhappily.
Then he turned his head and typed a string of words into his phone:
"What's it to you!"
"Besides, I was replying to your message, I didn't have time to chat with her!"
Chen Yubai: "Then I won't take up your precious time for making friends. Go chat with her."
Seeing that he was about to end the conversation, Peng Chengyi immediately backed down and said, "Actually, it's not that precious. There will be plenty of opportunities to chat with your deskmate in the future. I'll keep you company for now."
Chen Yubai couldn't help but laugh.
Sitting next to him, Ling Baizhou leaned over familiarly and asked, "Who are you chatting with? You seem so happy."
Chen Yubai didn't cover the screen, tapping his phone with his long fingers as he lazily replied, "Childhood friend."
"This childhood friend, could it be the girl who came in with you at the beginning?" Ling Baizhou asked curiously.
"Hmm," Chen Yubai responded indifferently.
Ling Baizhou: "What's her name? She's quite cute."
Chen Yubai paused, then finally raised his eyes: "Don't let her cute appearance fool you, she's actually quite fierce. You'd better not mess with her."
"Huh?" Ling Baizhou was stunned for a moment, then looked at the back of the heads of the girls in the row in front of him with their neat ponytails, and asked incredulously, "How fierce are they?"
Chen Yubai said in a serious tone, "I've been her underling for three years."
