Yu Kui didn't ask any more questions. She just stared at the dark sky above her head, seemingly lost in thought.
“I’m sorry,” Xie Xingzhi said, “I thought you no longer cared about their affairs.”
"It's not your problem."
Yu Kui's voice was very soft, "It's because I'm too stupid and foolish."
She stood up. "I'm going home."
"I'll take you back." Xie Xingzhi also stood up.
“That’s enough,” Yu Kui said. “I can go back by myself.”
Xie Xingzhi sensed something was off about her. "Are you angry with me?"
“I’m not angry,” Yu Kui said. “I want to be alone for a while.”
"Then I'll take you to get a taxi."
The two walked to the roadside, and Xie Xingzhi helped Yu Kui hail a taxi. After watching her get in the car, he whispered, "Let me know you're safe when you get home." He was no longer as carefree as usual, and his eyes were no longer aggressive; they had become very gentle.
"Don't worry, young man, I'll make sure you get your girlfriend home safely."
The driver chuckled, "I don't know how many years I've driven this road. I could drive to my destination even with my eyes closed."
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Xie Xingzhi corrected him, “she’s my friend.”
"Okay, okay, I promise to take your friend home."
“Yu Kui,” Xie Xingzhi looked at the listless girl in the back seat, “text me when you get home. You can tell me anything that makes you unhappy.”
Yu Kui raised her eyes and glanced at him. "Xie Xingzhi, thank you."
"Why are you thanking me?" The boy raised an eyebrow mischievously. "Do you still consider me a friend?"
Yu Kui tried to smile at him, but couldn't manage a smile, so she lowered her head.
She closed the car door, and the car started moving forward. Xie Xingzhi subconsciously took two steps forward to chase after it, but the car turned the corner and disappeared completely from his sight.
Yu Kui leaned back in the seat, watching the streetlights flashing past the window. Her mind was filled with many thoughts, yet it also felt like she wasn't thinking about anything at all.
She felt calm now, yet it seemed she couldn't calm down at all.
She hated the way she broke down and went crazy; it made her feel unlike herself. Yet, just now, she had been unable to control her sobbing in front of Xie Xingzhi on the street.
How embarrassing!
She even felt particularly pitiful, but she had a happy family, excellent grades, and was a kind and honest person, so why was she pitiful?
So many people envy her.
Her parents love her, and her teachers and classmates treat her very well, so why does she have these kinds of emotions?

When she woke up, she was no longer in the hospital, and her parents were not with her.
Yu Kui suddenly realized she was dreaming. She was back in her bedroom, and the surroundings were unchanged, except that there was a book she had never read before on the desk where she often wrote.

Yu Kui didn't remember when she bought the book. She walked up and opened the cover. When she saw the first line of text, she frowned.
This is a book featuring "Qin You" as the main character.
Yu Kui wanted to put the book down when she saw his name, but when she saw what followed, she suppressed her aversion.
This should be a coming-of-age angst novel, about Qin You, a high school student who falls in love at first sight with Tao Jiang, a transfer student. Unable to control his feelings, he defies all reason to love her. Their entanglement continues from high school to university, and then to their working lives, experiencing countless breakups and reconciliations, but ultimately they choose to be together.
When Yu Kui saw her own name in the novel, her brows furrowed even more. In the novel, she and Qin You were childhood sweethearts, and she had always secretly loved Qin You, but she played the villain.
Because of her good relationship with Qin You, the female lead Tao Jiang often gets jealous and always argues with Qin You.
In the book, after learning that Qin You was in a relationship, she became insanely jealous of Tao Jiang. She used her status as a good friend to get close to Qin You in front of Tao Jiang and deliberately embarrassed Tao Jiang, becoming the biggest obstacle between the two.

Tao Jiang had previously mentioned that her family of origin was not good. At the time, Yu Kui felt sorry for her, but she didn't know exactly what the problem was. However, this book explains it very clearly.
Tao Jiang's mother was not her father's first wife, but a woman he kept outside the marriage. In order to gain a higher status, Tao's mother desperately wanted to have a son, but Tao Jiang was a daughter, which greatly disappointed her.
Therefore, Tao Jiang was neglected by her parents from a young age. Her mother not only did not take care of her, but also often beat and scolded her because of her gender, while her father did not care about her at all.

Upon hearing the news, her teachers and classmates rushed to the hospital to see her. Fortunately, she only injured her forehead and was otherwise unharmed, so she was still able to take the exams.
After seeing the homeroom teacher off, Yu's mother sat back down on the bed. Looking at her daughter's pale face, she felt heartbroken and tears streamed down her face. "If you want to go to the amusement park, you can tell me and your dad. Going there so late at night and taking a taxi back by yourself, you were lucky this time. What would I do if something really happened to you?"
