Chapter 59 Back to School Don't Get Sick, Eat on Time...
After celebrating Sun Shuya's birthday, Yu Kui received several calls from unknown numbers on her way home, but she rejected them all. Afterwards, she was bombarded with text messages.
"Where did you get this information from? Who told you?"
Tao Jiang kept warning her: "What you know is not the truth. You'd better not talk about it, or I won't let you off the hook."
Yu Kui ignored her message. She spoke it out to let Tao Jiang know that she was not someone to be trifled with.
Seeing that she was ignoring her, Tao Jiang even went to Qin You to ask him if he had given Yu Kui his home address, which led to Yu Kui finding out about her.
Unfortunately, Qin You hung up on her before she could finish listening.
Tao Jiang sat in the empty living room, feeling a chill run through her body.
On what grounds? How dare someone she used to manipulate in her student days threaten her like this? Who does she think she is!
However, she forgot that Yu Kui had once believed in her without reservation, and even after their falling out, Yu Kui suggested that she attend a school she was good at for her future, but she scoffed at the suggestion.
They haven't been friends for a long time.
But Tao Jiang didn't dare to really provoke Yu Kui, so she could only cower in place like a coward, listening to the ticking of the clock, without moving for a long time.
The next day, Yu's parents took Yu Kui to the airport and told her, "Come back early for the May Day holiday, our family is going on a trip."
"Okay." Yu Kui hugged her mother's arm. "You all need to take good care of yourselves at home, eat and sleep on time, and don't stay up late watching dramas..."
"We heard you," the parents said, somewhat helplessly. "Who's the child, you or us?"
Yu Kui: "......"
After getting off the plane, Yu Kui received a call from Xie Xingzhi, "Have you arrived yet?"
"Okay, we'll be leaving the station soon."
"I'm at the door," Xie Xingzhi said. "I've arranged a car to pick you up."
Yu Kui was taken aback for a moment, "I can just take a taxi back myself, there's no need to go through all this trouble."
"No trouble at all," Xie Xingzhi chuckled. "It's a friend's car, very convenient."
"Have you received your driver's license yet?" Yu Kui was stunned.
"Hmm." Xie Xingzhi took his driving test during the winter break and told Yu Kui that he was almost done with it.
Yu Kui ran out, and Xie Xingzhi stood not far from the door. The weather in the north was still very cold. He was wearing a black down jacket. He was tall and did not look bulky in the crowd. Instead, he had a graceful and elegant appearance.
Passersby glanced back at him, and upon seeing that he was quite good-looking, they seemed somewhat excited.
"Xie Xingzhi!" Yu Kui ran to his side. "Long time no see."
"Long time no see," Xie Xingzhi took the luggage from her hands, looking at her face which seemed a bit rounder than before. "Did you eat well at home?"
Yu Kui was stunned for a moment, and after realizing what he meant, she raised her hand to hit him.
“I haven’t said anything yet,” Xie Xingzhi said, letting her hit him twice. “You’re clearly prettier than before.”
"Hehe," Yu Kui thought to herself, feeling quite pleased, "My parents said the same thing."
Xie Xingzhi: "......"
After the two got into the car, Yu Kui discovered that there was another person in the passenger seat.
Who is this?
“My friend,” Xie Xingzhi introduced after putting her luggage away, “is Lu Cheng. He lent me this car.”
“Hello,” Yu Kui smiled at the person, “I am Xie Xingzhi’s friend, my name is Yu Kui.”
“I’ve heard him mention you before,” Lu Cheng said, looking several years older than Xie Xingzhi, with a gentle smile. “I’m so glad to finally meet you.”
Yu Kui looked at the boy sitting in the driver's seat, and was a little surprised that he had mentioned her to his friends.
"Actually, I wasn't coming today, but he only got his driver's license not long ago, so he came along." Lu Cheng glanced at Yu Kui from time to time, seemingly very curious about her.
"Oh, thank you." Yu Kui thanked her politely.
"What have you been doing at home?" Xie Xingzhi asked with a smile.
"Didn't I tell you already?" Yu Kui glanced at him. "I'm happy and joyful every day."
Xie Xingzhi's eyes revealed a clear smile, "So, are we still going to watch the movie and eat hot pot?"
"Of course!" Yu Kui said, "I haven't had hot pot for days."
Not long after they finished talking, Xie Xingzhi parked the car in front of a hot pot restaurant and took her and Lu Cheng inside to eat.
Looking at the hot pot restaurant's simple and understated decor, Yu Kui realized it was a chain store she had never been to before.
The three sat down and ordered food. Xie Xingzhi continued to ask her what had happened at home. Yu Kui picked out the fun things to tell him, "Grandpa's tangerines are bigger than my fist, and the blood oranges are super delicious. Have you eaten them?"
"I ate it." Thinking of the fruit she sent, Xie Xingzhi's eyes softened a little. "It was delicious."
"Okay, I'll arrange it for you next time."
"By the way, how's work here? School's starting soon, have you got everything sorted out?"
“It’s all taken care of,” Xie Xingzhi said, looking into her bright eyes. “Now that I’m making money, I can buy you any dragon meat you want.”
Yu Kui: "......" She would never eat dragon meat.
The two talked to each other, while Lu Cheng, who was watching from the side, would occasionally drink water. He never expected that Xie Xingzhi, who was usually so serious, would be so down-to-earth when he met a girl he liked. It was truly an eye-opening experience.
After lunch, Xie Xingzhi escorted Yu Kui to her dormitory building. "I'll take you to see a movie tomorrow at noon. Don't oversleep."
“Okay,” Yu Kui was very happy to meet her good friend. “Give me a call beforehand.”
"Hmm." Xie Xingzhi patted her head before turning to leave.
Yu Kui packed her luggage and carefully cleaned the dormitory room.
It's not time for school to start yet, and her three roommates haven't arrived yet, so she's currently alone in the room.
She turned on her computer, glanced at the messages in the class group, and then logged into her account on the video website. Since the New Year's Eve party, her account had gained more than 300,000 followers, and people would occasionally ask her if she wanted to be a store model, wearing their clothes and taking photos.
Yu Kui refused them all. Her priority right now is to go to school and she doesn't want to do any side jobs.
Then someone messaged her again, asking if she wanted to be a Hanfu model. Their shop was in City B, and they could pick her up and drop her off by car.
Yu Kui still refused. She watched some debate videos and decided to join the debate team this semester.
The next day, Yu Kui woke up very late. She got up to wash and dress after receiving a call from Xie Xingzhi. After getting ready, she hurriedly went to the door.
"I checked the time, I'm not late."
Xie Xingzhi smiled and said, "Let's go eat first."
The two walked to a small stir-fry shop near the school gate and ordered several Sichuan dishes.
"When did you first become friends with that person yesterday?"
Lu Cheng's face was unfamiliar, and Yu Kui was a little uneasy.
"We met at work," Xie Xingzhi explained. "He helped me a lot at work, and we became friends over time."
Yu Kui, remembering that he was still working during winter break, immediately said, "I'll treat you today. I can't let you treat me every day."
"Okay." Xie Xingzhi didn't argue with her, but instead asked about something else, "Are you very familiar with the owner of Jiaoyang Cake Shop?"
"Huh?" Yu Kui blinked, not quite understanding.
Xie Xingzhi: "He often likes your posts on WeChat Moments."
"You mean Xu Xi?" Xu Xi's cake shop is called that. Yu Kui asked in surprise, "You have his WeChat too?"
“You forgot, I went to see you once and ordered a cake in town,” Xie Xingzhi said. “I added his contact information back then for convenience.”
“He is also my friend,” Yu Kui said with a smile. “When I was in my hometown, I took some photos of cakes for him, and he gave me a lot of delicious food. We gradually became familiar with each other.”
"Is that so?" Seeing the smile in her eyes, Xie Xingzhi smiled too. "His cakes are delicious?"
"It's not bad," Yu Kui said doubtfully. "Didn't you eat it before?"
"I'd long forgotten," Xie Xingzhi said. "But he seems quite young. Why would he open a cake shop in town?"
“He probably doesn’t like the fast pace of city life and chose the life he wants,” Yu Kui said subconsciously. “I’m quite envious of his freedom.”
"You like this kind of life too?" Xie Xingzhi asked. "After graduation, you won't stay in City B?"
“No,” Yu Kui said, “It’s still early. I don’t know which city I will be working in in the future.”
Xie Xingzhi didn't speak after hearing this, and after a moment he said, "Let's eat first."
After dinner, the two went to see a recently popular comedy movie. When they came out, it was already getting dark, and Xie Xingzhi suggested that they go to the nearby food street for a stroll.
"Maybe next time," Yu Kui said, sounding a little tired. "Let's go back and rest first."
"We haven't had dinner yet," Xie Xingzhi said. "Would you like some barbecue?"
“No,” Yu Kui glanced at the casserole shop next to the barbecue restaurant, “Let’s go get some soup.”
The two sat in the cozy shop and ordered two different casseroles. Yu Kui told Xie Xingzhi about her plans after the start of the semester, "I'll probably be very busy afterward, and I won't have as much time to take you out to eat."
"It's nothing," Xie Xingzhi said casually, "I'll eat at your cafeteria."
Yu Kui was amused by him, "Why are you like this?"
"What, you won't even treat your best friend to a meal at the cafeteria?"
Yu Kui: "......"
"I haven't asked you yet, what kind of work were you doing during the holidays?" After telling her about her own situation, Yu Kui asked Xie Xingzhi with concern, "Were you very tired?"
“It’s related to game design,” Xie Xingzhi said. “Sometimes it can be very tiring, but it gets better gradually.”
Although he didn't explain it clearly, Yu Kui knew he must be very tired. He often called her at night, and his voice was full of exhaustion.
The novel doesn't mention Xie Xingzhi's part-time jobs during college, but Yu Kui still doesn't want him to overwork himself. "Although I don't know exactly where you work, you have to take good care of yourself, don't get sick, and eat on time."
She spoke in a very serious tone, which made Xie Xingzhi laugh several times. "I understand."
