Chapter Eighteen

Returning to the workplace wasn't as difficult as Wen Yixing had imagined. Most of the people in Wen Yixing's department were very easy-going young people, and overall the company atmosphere was quite good.

Wen Yixing just started working, and the work she's doing so far is all basic and not very difficult. She even has occasional time to slack off and have coffee.

There were three people who joined the company at the same time as her, and they were assigned to different departments.

Wen Yixing knew one of them, Ye Qiao.

When they met again, Ye Qiao was in much better condition, but still maintained her haughty peacock-like demeanor.

As the older sister of the protagonist in the book, Wen Yixing only remembers that Ye Qiao was neither good nor bad to Ye Suidong, and the sisters' relationship was particularly indifferent.

Wen Yixing couldn't remember what happened to Ye Qiao after that.

She only vaguely remembered that Ye Qiao later entered the entertainment industry, participated in a few variety shows, and acted in a few bad movies, remaining lukewarm in the industry.

"Why are you always looking at me like that? Ye Qushui is the one who asked for the money. If you regret it, go ask her for the money. Don't come to me. I don't have any money."

In the lounge, Ye Qiao picked up her coffee and spoke to Wen Yixing in a calm tone.

During the past few days at work, Wen Yixing kept glancing at Ye Qiao without realizing it. After all, she was the older sister of the protagonist in the book. After seeing her gaze so often, Ye Qiao eventually noticed something was wrong, so she invited her to the break room to talk.

Ye Qiao was wearing a very smart white shirt today, with the sleeves rolled up, and a green watch on her fair wrist.

Wen Yixing's gaze was drawn to her watch, and then she noticed a large bruise on Ye Qiao's right arm.

Judging from Ye Qiao's attitude, this wasn't the first time her mother had done something like this; it's very likely that someone had come to her asking for money before.

Wen Yixing placed the coffee cup on the coffee machine, her tone slow and gentle: "Does she do this often?"

Ye Qiao was surprised that Wen Yixing would ask that question, and she replied casually, "Yes."

As she spoke, Ye Qiao also noticed her own arm. She lowered her sleeve, subtly covering the bruise, and said frankly, "She's a madwoman."

Wen Yixing knew that Ye Qiao was right when she said Ye Qushui was crazy; Ye Qushui was indeed somewhat mentally unstable.

She remembered that the book mentioned that Ye Qushui eventually developed a mental illness, and that Ye Suidong personally sent Ye Qushui to a mental hospital when Ye Suidong was seventeen.

Seeing that Wen Yixing had no intention of getting her money back, Ye Qiao looked at Wen Yixing.

Ye Qiao stared at Wen Yixing for a few seconds. She recognized the brand of these clothes. The tops looked ordinary, but they were actually not cheap.

Ye Qiao chuckled and asked, "There's something I'm really curious about. Your family is so rich, why are you working? Just to experience life?"

From that kindergarten meeting, Wen Yixing was able to readily hand over 20,000 yuan to Ye Qushui without batting an eye.

Ye Qiao was certain that Wen Yixing's family was at least not short of money.

At least I won't be short of the few thousand yuan I earn from work.

Ye Qiao's tone wasn't exactly friendly, but Wen Yixing wasn't angry. She spoke in a good-natured manner: "Because everyone has their own way of living."

Ye Qiao walked forward with her coffee, simply replying to her, "You don't know how lucky you are."

Wen Yixing didn't speak to Ye Qiao anymore; she returned to her workstation and sat down.

He was also replaying Ye Qiao's words in his mind.

Is it really a blessing?

At least not for her right now.

---

Fang Jingyao has been behaving well at kindergarten these past few days. Ever since he had a falling out with Ye Suidong, the teacher has moved them to two different classes.

This made it impossible for Fang Jingyao to observe Ye Suidong at all times. However, after these days of furtive observation, Fang Jingyao felt more and more that something was wrong with Ye Suidong.

Ye Suidong is too smart; he seems to have no interest in going to school here, nor in the games at kindergarten.

This is exactly like him; he's not like a normal child at all.

Fang Jingyao also suspected that Ye Suidong might have been reborn. He tested him a few times and found that Ye Suidong was indeed unfamiliar with him and looked at him as if he were an idiot.

If Ye Suidong were reborn, he probably wouldn't look at him like that. He might want to beat him up, or he wouldn't even give him a second glance.

Fang Jingyao was preoccupied and absent-minded all day until Wen Yixing came to pick him up, at which point Fang Jingyao regained his spirits.

Wen Yixing's workplace is not far from Fang Jingyao's kindergarten. The family driver picked her up first, and then came to pick up Fang Jingyao.

When Wen Yixing arrived at the kindergarten gate, she saw her son standing obediently behind the teacher with his little backpack on. When he saw her coming, his eyes lit up and he called out "Mom!"

Hearing her son's sweet voice, Wen Yixing's heart melted instantly.

She took her son's hand and asked, "Did you behave well with your teacher today?"

Fang Jingyao affirmed, "Of course!"

"Mom knew Yao Yao was great, so she brought some delicious treats for Yao Yao today."

"What?! What?!"

Under Fang Jingyao's expectant gaze, Wen Yixing took out a few candies from her pocket.

These are imported chocolates that her colleagues gave her today. Knowing that Yao Yao likes them, she decided to keep these pretty-packaged candies for her son.

Fang Jingyao remembers that he really liked eating candy when he was a child, but his teeth were bad, and his mother was strict and didn't let him eat too much candy.

After being reborn, Fang Jingyao no longer craved candy as much as he did when he was a child, but seeing the few candies in his mother's hand still made him happy from the bottom of his heart.
