After hanging up the phone, Wen Yixing stood by the window, her fingers gripping the phone tightly, her knuckles turning slightly white.
She didn't know why, but suddenly she really wanted to see him.
That's why I thought of inviting him over.
Wen Yixing knew very well what this visit meant: she wanted Shen Jingshao to meet her friends and family.
Although the two of them haven't officially started dating yet, she knows that Shen Jingshao has put in a lot of effort, so she's tentatively trying to take a step towards him.
But after making the call, Wen Yixing felt inexplicably uneasy.
She did have feelings for Shen Jingshao, but deep down she was always reluctant to start a new relationship.
Wen Yixing never mentioned it to anyone, and almost never showed it.
She knew deep down that she was afraid of re-establishing a relationship with a man and that she was afraid of marriage.
Isn't this going too fast?
At this moment, it felt like two little people were arguing in her mind. Wen Yixing had a headache, and her fingers began to tremble uncontrollably.
Wen Yixing picked up her phone, intending to call Shen Jingshao, but at that moment the doorbell rang twice.
It must be the repairman Shen Jingshao mentioned who's here to fix the living room light. Wen Yixing paused for a moment, then walked over and peered through the peephole.
The person at the door was carrying a toolbox, wearing a red and black windbreaker, a hat, and a mask; he certainly looked like a repairman.
Wen Yixing opened the door, leaving it slightly ajar: "Hello."
The person on the other end looked up and said, "Hello."
The voice sounded somewhat familiar, and Wen Yixing looked up at him in surprise. Just then, he also looked up, revealing a pair of eyes that she recognized very well.
Wen Yixing stared blankly at Shen Jingshao, who was dressed like this, for a couple of seconds before opening the door and slowly asking, "Why are you dressed like this?"
Shen Jingshao entered with his tools: "I've come to help you fix something. Wasn't the living room light broken?"
Even after closing the door, Wen Yixing was still a little stunned. It was the first time she had seen Shen Jingshao dressed like this. Compared to a sophisticated suit and leather shoes, this outfit looked more relaxed and casual, and also made him look younger.
"I thought you were looking for someone to fix it for me."
Wen Yixing never expected that Shen Jingshao would come to her door with his tools to fix it.
Shen Jingshao's gaze fell on her, a hint of a smile in his eyes: "Didn't you ask me to come?"
Wen Yixing's mind was a little foggy today. It took her several seconds to realize what Shen Jingshao meant. She had clearly meant to invite him to dinner when she called earlier. She didn't know if he had really misunderstood or was doing it on purpose.
In the few seconds that Wen Yixing was stunned, Shen Jingshao had already bent down and taken out disposable slippers from the shoe cabinet and put them on.
"Have you already bought the new light bulbs?" Shen Jingshao asked.
"I've bought it." Wen Yixing looked up at him. "Are you sure you'll change it?"
Shen Jingshao straightened up. His height of nearly 1.9 meters gave people a great sense of pressure. In addition, the outfit he was wearing today made him look particularly young. For a moment, Wen Yixing seemed to see Shen Jingshao in his twenties.
Shen Jingshao smiled and looked down at her: "Don't underestimate me."
Wen Yixing stood obediently beside him, responding a few seconds later: "Okay."
Shen Jingshao took out a blue bag from behind him and handed it to her: "This is a birthday present for the child."
Wen Yixing took it and then realized that it was a Lego set that Fang Jingyao liked to play with.
"That's quite a expense," Wen Yixing said. "Yaoyao should really like this; he loves playing with Lego."
While the two were talking, Shen Jingshao had already walked to the coffee table in the living room and picked up the new light bulb that Wen Yixing had bought to look at it.
Wen Yixing followed and said, "I've brought all the necessary tools. Is there anything else you need?"
"It's alright." Shen Jingshao looked at his toolbox. "I brought everything."
Shen Jingshao was indeed more skilled at changing light bulbs than she was, and his height made it easier for him to do so.
Shen Jingshao was more skilled at this than Wen Yixing had imagined. In less than ten minutes, he had changed the living room light. Wen Yixing turned the switch back on, and the living room light came on.
"Alright." Wen Yixing glanced at Shen Jingshao, then turned and walked towards the kitchen. "I'll get you a glass of water."
After packing his things and washing his hands in the bathroom, Shen Jingshao picked up the cup and drank all the water in it.
Wen Yixing discovered that Shen Jingshao's toolbox contained more tools than she had imagined. Some of the tools were ones she had never seen before. Wen Yixing recalled that back in her second year of high school, someone in her class had mentioned that Shen Jingshao's family owned a car repair shop and occasionally repaired other things as well.
The high school students didn't have a strong concept of wealth or poverty. Back then, the girls in their class even discussed how cool it was that Shen Jingshao could fix things.
Thinking of this, Wen Yixing looked up at Shen Jingshao. He was wiping his hands with a clean tissue. His hands were indeed long and beautiful, but Wen Yixing had held them many times and she could feel that Shen Jingshao's fingers were actually a bit rough. Although they had recovered well over the years, some small scars were still there.
The living room lights were on. Wen Yixing's gaze fell on Shen Jingshao's fingers, then she looked up at him and asked, "Did you often do this before?"
"Hmm." Shen Jingshao had already wiped his fingers and threw the small crumpled paper in his hand into the trash can. "When I was in high school, I often followed the uncle next door to repair cars, and sometimes I would go out with him to repair other things. Over time, I learned quite a lot."
Wen Yixing praised him generously: "You're amazing."
“I remember you used to tutor on weekends,” Shen Jingshao laughed. “You were very capable too.”
Wen Yixing looked up at him in surprise: "How did you know?"
Shen Jingshao: "I saw you at the back gate of the school."
During high school, boarding students were only allowed to go home once a month. In fact, the school did not allow boarding students to leave the school. However, in order to work as a tutor, Wen Yixing would sneak out of the school through the back gate every Saturday.
During that time, the back gate of the school was under repair, and the wall was built quite low, so many students would sneak out of school from there.
When there were no teachers around during Saturday afternoon self-study sessions, Wen Yixing would try to sneak out through the back door to work as a tutor.
During that time, something happened in her family, and Wen Yixing wanted to earn more living expenses, so she had to go out and find a part-time job.
This was probably the most outrageous thing she had ever done during her three years of high school.
Wen Yixing stared at Shen Jingshao's face for several seconds, then asked in confusion, "I don't think I've ever seen you before?"
She didn't have many opportunities to interact with Shen Jingshao during high school. If she had seen him frequently near the back gate, she would definitely have remembered him.
But in fact, she couldn't recall ever having done that.
Seeing her frowning and looking down as she pondered deeply, Shen Jingshao smiled and said, "You were busy climbing the wall back then, so you probably didn't see me."
After Shen Jingshao said that, Wen Yixing did remember something.
