Chapter Twenty-Seven
Besides her work at the company, Wen Yixing also bought some English books online and read storybooks with Fang Jingyao in the evenings while she reviewed her English.
Of course, now there's an added task: tutoring Wen Yichen.
After learning that Wen Yichen was indeed working at the construction site, Wen Yixing discussed with Wen Yichen about not going to the construction site anymore.
He's only eighteen years old, and by all accounts, he should be in his final year of high school, which is the most crucial and important time of his life.
Since her sister had spoken up, Wen Yichen hesitated for less than three minutes before agreeing to Wen Yixing's request not to work on the construction site anymore.
She still hesitated before telling Wen Yixing, "Sister, I'm not good at studying, I'm not cut out for academics, and I won't be able to get into university."
Hearing her younger brother say that, Wen Yixing could guess that Wen Yichen must have had a fight with his family before running away.
Wen Yixing only understood what had happened after talking to her father on the phone that night.
Unlike Wen Yixing, who was a top student since childhood, Wen Yichen's grades in school have never been good.
As a child, I was naughty and didn't study hard. As an adult, my foundation was weak, so I couldn't keep up with my studies. My middle school entrance exam score was only enough to get me into the worst high school in the area.
Because of the considerable academic pressure at school, and the constant pressure from his father at home who would frequently compare his sister's past grades to his own, he was under considerable pressure.
Wen Yichen was so annoyed that he simply quit school. His father was so angry that he chased him around with a stick, saying, "With your good-for-nothing attitude, I bet you'll only be able to work as a bricklayer when you grow up. You won't even be able to get into university. Aren't you ashamed of yourself!"
Provoked by this, Wen Yichen's temper flared up as well, and he roared back, "I'll move bricks then!"
Wen Yichen is usually quite calm, but he is still young. When his stubborn temper flares up, no one can stop him. With only a few hundred yuan and his newly bought cell phone, he took a two-day bus ride to the city.
After he arrived, he actually found a job carrying bricks, and it even included food and lodging.
He developed early and used to help his family with chores at home. Now he has a very strong physique and inexhaustible energy every day.
Construction work is indeed dirty and tough, but Wen Yichen is not someone who can't endure hardship.
He actually felt that earning nearly 300 yuan a day was pretty good.
Life isn't just about studying; he can support himself even if he does manual labor, and he earns quite a bit!
He worked as a part-time worker on the construction site, and his wages were settled on the same day. Wen Yichen worked for nearly twenty days and earned more than six thousand yuan. This was the first time he had so much money in his hands.
Wen Yichen was thinking of working for another two months after returning home to save up more money so that he could buy his mother a new electric tricycle and his father a case of fine wine that he couldn't bear to buy.
However, plans often go awry.
Wen Yichen can argue with his father without restraint, but he listens to his older sister very much.
So he had to stop working on the construction site and start learning English with his nephew.
The siblings did not avoid talking to Fang Jingyao.
Fang Jingyao ate the sweet watermelon while quietly listening to the two of them talk.
Only then did he realize that his uncle had run away from home because he didn't want to study!
He finally understood why, in his previous life, although his mother was a good student and Fang Shiyan was a top student in high school, he was a poor student.
The case is solved!
So he takes after his uncle!
---
Since Wen Yichen moved into his home, Fang Jingyao has been completely unrestrained, often asking Wen Yichen to take him out to play.
It was early summer, and there were many fruits to pick on the hill behind the house. So they went to pick cherries on Saturdays and loquats on Sundays, often returning covered in mud.
This time was no different. Wen Yixing had just finished her work when she saw Wen Yichen and Fang Jingyao each carrying their own baskets.
Wen Yichen carried a large basket, while Fang Jingyao carried a small basket filled with cherries.
Upon seeing Wen Yixing, Fang Jingyao ran over like he was showing off a treasure: "Mom, look! My uncle and I picked so many cherries, they're so sweet!"
Wen Yixing smiled and said, "Yaoyao and her uncle are so great!"
Wen Yichen was slightly taken aback when his sister praised him as well, and then the tips of his ears turned a little red.
Not wanting anyone to see that he was shy, Wen Yichen took the cherries directly to the kitchen to wash them.
Fang Jingyao knew his uncle's personality, so he smiled and leaned on Wen Yixing's shoulder, "Mom, your uncle is shy because you praised him."
Wen Yichen was both amused and exasperated by Fang Jingyao's precocious remark. She reached out and tapped Fang Jingyao's forehead, "Go wash your hands quickly. Mom made your favorite braised pork ribs and crucian carp tofu soup today."
Fang Jingyao exclaimed "Wow!" and turned to run to wash his hands.
When he returned, he saw Fang Jingyao sitting on the sofa looking at a red piece of paper. He leaned over and asked, "Mom, what's this?"
Wen Yixing handed the invitation to Fang Jingyao and explained, "It's an invitation from the school to my mother."
Beijing No. 1 High School is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and the school will hold a special grand event, inviting outstanding graduates to participate and also to encourage the current students who are about to take the college entrance examination.
Wen Yixing used to have excellent grades, ranking among the top five in her grade, so she was naturally within the school's invitation range.
"Wow." Fang Jingyao took the invitation and carefully looked at the words on it.
Seeing her son's interest, Wen Yixing smiled and asked, "Yaoyao, do you want to go?"
Fang Jingyao nodded: "I want to!"
In his previous life, after he grew up, Beijing No. 1 High School no longer allowed outsiders to enter and leave at will.
