Chapter Three
The moment Wen Yixing saw her son, her heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled down.
Her child was wearing a blue kindergarten uniform, his big eyes were watery, and as soon as he saw her, he rushed towards her without hesitation, hugging her neck tightly and refusing to let go.
With the child in her arms, Wen Yixing's agitated emotions gradually calmed down.
The mother noticed that the child in her arms was acting strangely; his soft little body was twitching, and his little head was resting on her shoulder, whimpering softly in grievance.
Wen Yixing felt heartbroken. She gently patted Fang Jingyao's back and asked softly, "Yaoyao, were you unhappy at kindergarten today? Did someone bully you?"
After venting his emotions, Fang Jingyao was finally able to gradually control himself.
He has hardly cried since his mother passed away. After all, what's the point of crying? No one will care about him anymore.
But when he saw his mother when she was young today, he couldn't stop his tears.
At this time, my mother was not sick, did not suffer from depression, and was a healthy mother.
After crying, Fang Jingyao wanted to laugh again, but then felt a little embarrassed. After all, he was already a grown man, yet he had actually cried like a child.
Fortunately, he's still a child, so no one will laugh at him.
"No, I just miss my mom."
Fang Jingyao looked up at Wen Yixing.
At this time, my mother was still very young, with fair skin and no wrinkles around her eyes. Her eyes were always gentle and clear, full of hope, unlike the vicissitudes and despair she later showed in the hospital ward.
"Mom." Fang Jingyao rushed into Wen Yixing's arms again and hugged her tightly.
"Hmm?" Wen Yixing thought the little one beside her was just being affectionate. She smiled and picked the little one up and put him on her lap. Only when she held her child did Wen Yixing feel at ease.
He could only feel his mother's warm hands gently patting his back, and he was surrounded by his mother's scent.
“Mom misses Yaoyao too.” Wen Yixing lowered her head and kissed her son’s forehead. “What does Yaoyao want to eat today? Mom will make it for you.”
Fang Jingyao always knew that his mother was a good cook, but he didn't appreciate it when he was a child and preferred to eat instant noodles and hamburgers. After his mother passed away, no one cared what he ate anymore, but he began to miss his mother's cooking terribly.
In the years that followed, he tasted many dishes, but no one could replicate his mother's cooking.
Fang Jingyao's mind was still blank. After hearing his mother's words, a lot of dishes he wanted to eat popped into his head. Before he could speak, he heard Wen Yixing say softly, "Your grandma will be coming over today, so we need to make more."
"Grandma's coming too?" Fang Jingyao's initial excitement vanished instantly at the thought of that old lady.
"Okay, come over for dinner in a bit." Wen Yixing's voice was still gentle, but Fang Jingyao was so absorbed in his own emotions that he didn't notice the slight coldness in Wen Yixing's voice.
"Is Aunt Fang coming too?" Fang Jingyao asked, looking up.
"Mom doesn't know either," Wen Yixing thought for a moment, "She'll probably come along."
Fang Jingyao didn't have a good impression of his grandmother and aunt. In his previous life, his mother was seriously ill and receiving treatment in the hospital. When the old lady and Fang Shiyu came to visit her, his mother, despite being in pain, didn't forget to ask him to go downstairs and buy some fresh fruit that they liked to treat them.
That evening, when he returned from shopping, he overheard the two talking in the hallway. Fang Shiyu's voice was sharp and sarcastic. She said, "She's practically dead already, why spend so much money on her? Our Fang family doesn't owe her anything. She's just a country bumpkin who's been a rich lady for so many years, she's had her fill. Now she's half-dead and annoying, she'd be better off dead. With my brother's status, what kind of woman can't he find?"
They didn't lower their voices at all. The corridor was only separated from the ward by a wall, and Fang Jingyao suspected that his mother could hear everything clearly from inside the ward.
He got angry and threw the fruit he was holding at them.
Perhaps her mother really took Fang Shiyu's words to heart, because not long after, she really left.
Thinking of the day his mother passed away, Fang Jingyao felt a chill run through his body. Before the pain could return, a warm hand grasped his. "Why are your hands so cold? Are you feeling unwell?"
Wen Yixing's gentle voice brought Fang Jingyao back to his senses. He nestled in Wen Yixing's arms and shook his head, "I'm fine, Mom."
Reborn and seeing his mother again made him so excited that he hadn't had time to think about many things.
To be honest, Fang Jingyao doesn't remember much about what happened when he was four years old. He only remembers that the old lady and Fang Shiyu disliked his mother since he was a child, but they would always come over for dinner every week, deliberately making his mother cook a big table of food by herself, and treating his mother like a servant.
When he was a child, he was too young to understand why his grandmother did what she did. But now, thinking about it carefully, he only felt angry. He hated his grandmother and aunt who deliberately made things difficult for his mother, and he also hated his father who never stood up for his mother.
"Mom!" Fang Jingyao grasped Wen Yixing's hand, deliberately looking up at her expectantly. "Let's go out to eat today!"
Fang Jingyao had already prepared countless excuses to persuade Wen Yixing, thinking that her mother would refuse. But to his surprise, Wen Yixing only paused for a moment, then smiled and asked, "What does baby want to eat?"
Fang Jingyao felt a little shy and uncomfortable when he heard his mother call him "baby" again, but he quickly put those feelings behind him.
