Chapter 165 Why Abandon Her
But in fact, Rong Chen had a little selfish thought in his heart. He wanted to see if Shu Wan would really not be touched at all if he left. He didn't believe that Shu Wan was really so ruthless to him.
So the next day, he only ordered the team to protect Shu Wan, and left alone. Even his personal guard Feng Ling didn't know his whereabouts.
When Shu Wan heard that he had left, she felt mixed emotions. As expected, Rong Chen didn't care about her at all. If Rong Chen cared about her, how could he leave without saying a word!
After a few more days, Shu Wan and his group entered the territory of Blackwater City. In another ten days, they would reach the main city.
Shu Wan still didn't know where Rong Chen had been these days. She wanted to ask Yu Jianning and the others countless times, but in the end she chose not to speak.
What's the point of asking? It will only add to your troubles. If he wanted to come back, why would he have disappeared for so long?
That day, Shu Wan and his group passed through a small town. It was already late, so they found an inn to stay in and prepared to continue their journey the next day.
While we were eating, there was a middle-aged couple at the next table with a little girl of about five or six years old. Judging from the clothes the three of them were wearing, they should not be very wealthy. The couple's clothes were all washed white, but the little girl was wearing a new jacket. They ordered four or five dishes. The little girl's face was full of joy as she wolfed down the food in the bowl, not noticing the forced smiles on her parents' faces.
"Dad, Mom, why don't you eat?" The little girl raised her head and asked confusedly.
"Five kids, eat. Mom and dad won't be hungry!" The middle-aged man said with a forced smile on his face.
"Oh!" After hearing that, the little girl buried her head and continued eating.
Shu Wan felt something was a little strange, but she really didn't have the energy to think about it, she couldn't even control herself.
Shu Wan went upstairs in no time after finishing a table full of food. After washing up, she prepared to go to bed. She had not been sleeping well in recent days, and it was rare that she felt a little sleepy today.
But as soon as she lay down, she heard crying from somewhere.
She was really disturbed by the crying and couldn't sleep.
"Yuwenzhu, did you hear anyone crying?" Shu Wan opened her eyes. She was already mostly sleepy, so her tone was very bad.
"Crying?" Yu Wenzhu sat up and listened carefully. "It seems like there really is crying!"
Yuwenzhu didn't know what was wrong with her. She had been huddled together with Shu Wan all this time, saying that she always felt that Shu Wan had bad intentions towards her, so she had to keep an eye on Shu Wan's every move to prevent Shu Wan from persecuting her! Shu Wan didn't try to find out whether what she said was true or not, so she let her do it. It happened that Yuwenzhu was chattering around her every day, so she didn't feel that time was so hard to bear.
"Let's go down and take a look!" Shu Wan got up from the bed and put on her shoes. She didn't know what was going on, so she wondered if she could sleep tonight.
"Oh, wait for me!" Yuwen Zhu followed closely, "Shu Wan, do you think there is a ghost?" Yuwen Zhu couldn't help but think so. On a night like this, the intermittent crying was really too scary.
"What's scary in this world is never ghosts, but people!" Shu Wan curled the corners of his mouth.
Yu Wenzhu didn’t quite understand what Shu Wan said.
They followed the sound of crying and found a little girl sitting on the ground crying in a corner outside the inn! They didn't see the little girl's face, but Shu Wan recognized her clothes. This was the little girl who had eaten in the store that afternoon, but where were her parents?
"Little sister, where are your parents?" Shu Wan walked forward a few steps, bent down slightly and asked.
"My parents are missing..." The little girl raised her head and cried even more sadly, "I can't find them!" She didn't know why her parents disappeared in the blink of an eye.
"Don't cry, I'll help you find your parents, okay?" Shu Wan was unconsciously very patient.
"Really, sister?" There were still tears in the little girl's eyes, but when she heard this, she smiled broadly at Shu Wan.
"Really, let's go. It's cold outside. Come inside with your sister first!" Shu Wan reached out to pull her.
"Okay!" The little girl handed her hand to Shu Wan and followed her into the inn.
After such a commotion, Yu Jianning and the others had already woken up and were now waiting for Shu Wan in the hall.
"Go find the parents of this little girl!" Shu Wan ordered. She knew that people like them would naturally have their own ways to find someone.
"Okay!" Yu Jianning nodded, then ordered his men to go out.
Shu Wan asked the store owner to cook noodles for the little girl. The little girl ate them ravenously, as if she had been hungry for centuries.
One bowl was not enough, so she looked at Shu Wan with some embarrassment, and Shu Wan asked someone to cook more.
"Sister, you are such a good person!" the little girl said from the bottom of her heart.
"How do you know I'm a good person?" Shu Wan asked with amusement.
"Because you gave me food, you are a good person!" The little girl answered as a matter of course.
"Don't you have enough to eat?" Shu Wan felt inexplicably sad. From the little girl's words and thinking about what she saw this afternoon, she had a guess in her mind.
"Yes." The little girl nodded. "I am the fifth child my parents gave birth to. I have four older sisters, but my grandparents hoped that my father could have a younger brother. My family is poor and we often don't have enough to eat. We can only eat a little more during the Chinese New Year. Today my parents took me to the market in town, and then they asked me if I wanted to eat delicious food. I said yes, and they ordered a lot of dishes for me. They were so delicious!" The little girl's face was full of happiness. It was the first time for her to eat such delicious food.
Hearing this, Shu Wan's eyes darkened.
"Then do you want to follow me in the future? I promise that you will have a lot of delicious food every day!" When he looked up again, Shu Wan's eyes were full of a gentle smile.
"Are there a lot of delicious food every day?" The little girl seemed a little unconvinced, because she simply couldn't imagine what it would be like to have so much food every day.
"Every day!" Shu Wan nodded.
"Then can I share these foods with my parents and sister?" The little girl thought, she had a lot of food, but her parents and sister had none, so she had to share the food with them.
"Of course!" Shu Wan smiled, "But little sister, have you ever thought that if I don't give you food one day, you will be hungry, so, how about this, you follow me and work for me in the future, I will pay you money every month, so that you can use the money you earn to buy a lot of delicious food for your parents and sister, do you think this is okay?" The child is still too young, how could she bear to let the child know this cruel truth! "But I have never left my parents..." The little girl hesitated.
"If you stay with me, not only will you have plenty of food, but they won't be hungry either. Isn't that good?" Shu Wan asked patiently.
"That's certainly a good idea!" The little girl knew that what Shu Wan said was true. "Okay, sister, I'll stay with you from now on. You can ask me to do anything. I'll do it all. When I'm at home, I'll help feed the pigs and make fire. You just need to give me money and food!" The little girl thought about it and agreed.
"Okay, then we have a deal. We can't go back on our word! By the way, what's your name?" Shu Wan didn't even know what the little girl's name was.
"My name is Wu Wa!" Wu Wa answered with his big eyes blinking.
"This name doesn't sound nice. Sister will give you a new name!" You don't have to think about it to know that this is not a name at all. "From now on, I will call you Shengnan, okay? My last name is Shu, so you should follow my last name. Shu Shengnan, how about this name?" Shu Wan really has no talent for naming, and doesn't know what name with profound meaning. She just simply thinks that since these people think that women are born inferior to men, then she must give Shengnan such a name and train her to be the best person. She wants these people to see clearly that being a girl does not necessarily mean she is worse than others.
In just half an hour, Feng Ling personally brought Shengnan's parents back.
The couple looked very flustered, as if they had been caught doing something wrong.
"Dad, Mom, where have you been?" Shengnan burst into tears and rushed towards her parents.
"Good boy Wu Wa, your parents are back, aren't they?" The middle-aged man smiled very reluctantly.
Shu Wan didn't want to embarrass them in front of Shengnan.
"I've specially called you two here because I have something to discuss with you!" Although he said it was a discussion, his tone was extremely firm. "I like your fifth child very much, and I plan to keep her by my side, so I have specially informed you two to avoid you coming to the government office to sue me one day, saying that I have kidnapped your child. By then, I won't be able to explain myself even if I have a hundred mouths!" Shu Wan smiled sinisterly.
"Yes, yes, it's Wuwa's blessing that the lady is willing to take him in!" It was obvious that the couple had never seen the world, and Shu Wan's behavior had already scared them enough.
Next, the couple simply told Shengnan to be smart in the future, to serve Shu Wan well, not to cause trouble for Shu Wan, and to call Shu Wan "Miss".
Shengnan agreed to all of them. Finally, she was so sleepy that she started yawning, so Shu Wan asked someone to take her upstairs to sleep.
After Shengnan left, Shu Wan had no more scruples and began to settle accounts with the couple.
"Why did you abandon her?" Shu Wan's voice was filled with unconcealable anger as she opened her mouth. "Do you know how scared and helpless she is when you left her here like this? Have you ever thought about what would happen to her, such a little child, if she was just thrown away by you?" Shu Wan's voice was a little sharp. Her eyes were red, and she couldn't help roaring at the couple. She looked as if she had some deep hatred with them.
