Chapter 251 If you are not here, I will never live alone (19)

The father and son often share similar flaws, but their rivalry never changes. What are they fighting over? Of course, it's one fighting over the wife and the other over the mother.

When they were little, Huo Qingfeng bullied Ping An, but Ping An couldn't speak properly and couldn't tell his mother. Now that he's grown up, he's quite something; he's sharp-tongued and always complains about his father to his mother.

Huo Qingfeng clung to his wife, taking advantage of her while complaining to Ling Ruoke, "Look at him, he's always trying to steal my wife!"

When Ping An was little, she never argued back, but now she's sharp-tongued. "Don't keep trying to take Mom away from me!"

Thus, a common scene unfolded at the Huo family home: Ping An would nestle happily in his mother's arms, monopolizing her affections, and steal a kiss from her when his father wasn't looking. If Huo Qingfeng saw this, he'd immediately pick him up like a kitten or puppy and throw him outside. At first, Ping An would only panic, but later he learned to tattle. "Mommy, Daddy hit me!"

Ling Ruoke gave the colonel a stern reprimand.

The colonel, having been criticized, dared not touch his son's bottom again, nor dared he lift the cat or dog. So, as if in a fit of pique, he gave Ling Ruoke a quick kiss.

Ping An was displeased. He wiped his mother's face and then kissed her again. He also gave his father a sidelong glance, clearly a provocation.

The father and son were arguing, and the son took a sharp sip.

The son immediately wiped it again, and then stamped it with his own seal.

The two of them took turns wiping and covering the mouthful, wiping it off repeatedly, without end. Finally, they angered the good-natured Ling Ruoke, who lost her temper, and the father and son quieted down.

In short, the father and son were fiercely competitive and determined to fight for every inch of Ling Ruoke's life. Within the Huo family, this battle raged on constantly.

However, aside from his wife, Huo Qingfeng still dotes on his son. For example, Ping An, that little rascal, seems to take after someone with a sweet tooth! He has absolutely no resistance to sweet candies! So, his father bought him a colorful cartoon dog-shaped candy jar, and filled it with all sorts of candies to please him. Ping An's happiest moment is eating candy while hugging the jar and watching Ultraman!

In the beginning, this scene could often be seen at the Huo family's residence:

Ling Ruoke had just gone out to buy groceries when Ping An came running in, pulling his dad to look at his candy jar. His mother didn't allow him to eat too much candy, so she put the jar very high up, out of Ping An's reach.

Old Man Huo Qingfeng was helpless against his son's pitiful, longing eyes. Seeing his wife leave, he quickly took the candy jar down, grabbed a handful for his son, and stuffed it into his pocket. "Don't let Mom see."

Little Ping'an nodded eagerly, tearing open a candy wrapper and popping it into his mouth with a sweet smile. Ping'an thought that this was the best time for his dad!

Huo Qingfeng had warned his son not to let his wife find out, but she had sharp eyes and always managed to catch them red-handed. Then, she put her hands on her hips, her almond-shaped eyes wide, and pointed a slender finger at a guest room. "You two, be locked up! You're not allowed out without my permission!"

"young married woman!"

"Mother!"

You heard right, they were both pitiful, pleading voices. One was deep and the other was young and innocent, but they didn't sound out of place mixed together.

Ling Ruoke was "heartless" and showed absolutely no leniency towards them. The father and son had no choice but to reluctantly enter the guest room as punishment, glancing at her darkened face. The guest room was completely bare, containing only a table, chairs, and a bed. It was originally Huo Qingfeng's elaborate setup to deal with his son, and now he was reaping what he sowed.

After the father and son went inside and closed the door, Ling Ruoke covered her mouth and giggled. Every time she saw two faces, one big and one small, with the same pitiful expression, she felt especially happy!

Ling Ruoke glanced at the door again before heading to the kitchen to cook. The two children, one big and one small, were quite well-behaved; they stayed quietly in their room until she announced the end of their confinement and they could eat. What the father and son did inside was none of her concern. She euphemistically called it "building a bond" between them. And surprisingly, the father and son did indeed develop a "class camaraderie" while in confinement. But the moment they saw her again, they went from brothers to enemies.

But for this father and son, being locked up and unable to see their wife/mother was incredibly painful. So they were restless and anxious in the room. They would then blame each other, arguing loudly; if the younger one weren't so small, they probably would have fought.

"Come out, dinner's ready." Ling Ruoke put down the last soup, wiped her hands, and called out with a smile.

Then the door opened, and the father and son rushed out as if in a race. The father, with his long legs, covered the distance in one step compared to ten steps for his son. The father was humane enough not to rush forward, but instead almost stood still as his son scurried along. In the end, naturally, the son was the first to reach his mother's side.

He tugged at his mother's trouser leg, giggling happily. He tugged harder, making his mother bend down, and gave her a quick kiss. After the kiss, instead of obediently sitting down to eat, he glanced sideways at his father.

The father, without hesitation, pulled his wife into his arms and gave her a big kiss. He even raised an eyebrow and whistled at the end, much to his son's annoyance.

The son was definitely not satisfied, and in the end, it was time for the usual "you kiss me, wipe away my stamp" drama to play out again. This would eventually push the good-natured Ling Ruoke to her limit and make her angry. Only then would the father and son sit down to eat, looking dejected. While eating, they would secretly glance at Ruoke, their expressions and eyes almost identical.

Ling Ruoke had been keeping a straight face and pretending to be serious, but after they teased her like this, she couldn't help but laugh and couldn't keep up the act anymore.

After the father and son exclaimed "Oh yeah!", they grinned and reached out their hands across the table to give each other a high five, becoming allies once again.

Such scenes can be staged every day, so Ling Ruoke's life, though ordinary, is still exceptionally wonderful and full of laughter.

It wasn't until later, when his son developed cavities, that Huo Qingfeng, after being severely scolded by his wife, finally stopped indulging his son's sweet tooth. The father, who had previously been incredibly lenient with his son's love of sweets, suddenly transformed into a stern and ruthless ruler, completely depriving his son of the right to enjoy candy. The time the father and son spent together in solitary confinement became far less frequent.

After Huo Qingfeng recovered, Ling Ruoke took over the management of Pei Huo again. To take care of her family, she hired someone else to help manage the business, and she herself only went to the office two days a week. Of course, if she was really bored, she would go and sit for a while.

That day, the project ran into problems, and another customer complained. Ling Ruoke had to fly to another city for a business trip.

Huo Qingfeng was finally on vacation and had been looking forward to spending quality time with his wife, but she had to go on a business trip. He was furious and wanted to throw a tantrum like a child to stop her from going. Unable to do it himself, he instigated his son to act out, but that didn't change his wife's mind either.

The incident happened very suddenly. Ling Ruoke handed her son over to her husband and hurriedly went out to the airport.

With his wife at home, Huo Qingfeng would tease his son and the day would pass quickly. Now that his wife wasn't home, he felt like every minute was unbearable. Later, when he got really bored, he left his son to play in the living room while he went to his study to tinker.

He was so engrossed in his work that several hours passed before he came to his senses. Rubbing his eyes, he shut down the computer and left his room. Looking from the second floor, he couldn't see the little meatball in the living room.

He was quite well-behaved today, and didn't ask for candy again. He probably understands that his dad won't indulge him anymore. Maybe he's in his room, opening his bedside room to find a room full of tiny gadgets. And what's under the blanket in the middle of that little bed? Round and bulging.

Huo Qingfeng didn't remember having an alarm clock or marbles in Ping An's room. He lifted the blanket and found the apple he had given Ping An that morning hidden there—a big, red apple with only a tiny tooth mark on it. Lifting the blanket further, a pile of colorful and pretty candy wrappers was revealed.

...

After stealing some candy, the little boy Ping'an was digging a hole in the ground in the front yard with a small shovel. The sun was hot, and he was sweating profusely, with a fine, glistening layer of sweat on his forehead.

Why dig the hole? To destroy the evidence, of course. Past experience told him that his father wouldn't let it go if he found out. He would bury the apple and candy wrappers in a little while.

This shows that our little Ping An is quite clever; even at such a young age, he knows how to destroy evidence of a body. Unfortunately, Ping An is still very young, and his digging was extremely inaccurate, shoveling here and there, resulting in a huge waste of manpower.

"Huo Feiyang!"

"Here!" Little Ping'an instinctively straightened up, dropping the shovel in his hand. He answered his superior's call in a childish voice, his chubby belly making him look like a cartoon doll.

He stole candy and even damaged the lawn. Little Ping An, like a rag doll, was picked up by his father and thrown into the room for time-out!

The room where Ping An was kept in solitary confinement was completely empty, and little Ping An was quite distressed. Luckily, the room had floor-to-ceiling windows, so he could see outside. His big, dark eyes peered through the glass at the world outside, looking rather pitiful.

After punishing his son with solitary confinement, Huo Qingfeng returned to his room to attend to his own affairs. However, he couldn't sit still for long. With a sigh, he went to the room where his son was being held in solitary confinement. As soon as he opened the door, he saw his son's face pressed against the French windows, looking out. Hearing the sound, his son turned around, his big, dark eyes looking at him without saying a word.

Seeing his son looking at him like that, Huo Qingfeng's heart immediately softened. He strode over, bent down, and picked his son up. Seeing his son resting his head on his shoulder, silently refusing to speak, he also felt a pang of sadness.

To atone for his sins, the colonel decided to take his son out for fun. Where to go? A suitable place for children, of course, would be an amusement park. However, since the mother wasn't home, it wouldn't be fun with just the father and son, so they went to an indoor amusement park.

"Brother Huo." The woman in front of her called out softly with a gentle smile.

Huo Qingfeng paused for a moment before connecting her with the Gu Zhenzhen he remembered. He hadn't seen Gu Zhenzhen since she went to prison. Many years had passed. She looked unchanged, still young and beautiful, but something seemed to have changed.

Huo Qingfeng nodded, unsure what to say to her. After that incident, he could no longer treat her as a younger sister.

Gu Zhenzhen didn't mind. She said goodbye, took a little girl's hand, and left. She hadn't gone far when a tall man approached. He smiled, bent down, picked up the little girl, and then took Gu Zhenzhen's hand.

Huo Qingfeng's lips curved slightly. Suddenly, he felt that life was good. Watching that family of three enjoying themselves at the amusement park, he also missed his wife.

Fortunately, Ling Ruoke only stayed for two days and returned on the morning of the third day. The moment she stepped inside, a man and a child rushed towards her like a train engine. One jumped into her arms, and the other picked her up. In the end, it was her holding her son, and her husband carrying her, the three of them huddled together.

"Wife, I've been missing you so much since you came back!" Huo Qingfeng had long since abandoned all pretense of decorum in front of his wife, so it was only natural for him to act coquettishly. As he spoke, he kissed his wife's lips several times.

"Me too, me too!" Ping An was unhappy that her father had gotten there first, so she shouted and pulled her mother down so that she could kiss her mother's face, just like her father.

Huo Qingfeng refused, grabbing him by the collar and slamming him to the ground. "Get out of here, this isn't a place for you to kiss."

"Mom, Dad is bullying me!" Ping An struggled a few times to no avail, then started to complain to her mother.

Ling Ruoke was exhausted and resting on the sofa, ignoring the boisterous father and son. "I'm tired, let me rest for a bit."

"Wife, let me give you a massage." Huo Qingfeng hurriedly used his best skills to start massaging his wife.

Ping An wasn't to be outdone, so she clenched her little fists and tapped her mother's knees. As she tapped, she looked at her mother in a pleading manner.

Ling Ruoke adored him so much that she picked him up and kissed his chubby cheeks a few times, making him laugh heartily. Taking the opportunity, he also kissed his mother on the cheek a few times, making loud smacking noises.

Huo Qingfeng was jealous. "Wife, you're being unfair! You kiss him but not me!" he complained plaintively, pouting as he leaned closer.

Ling Ruoke smiled helplessly and kissed him a few times on the lips, watching him grin contentedly.

These days are simply wonderful!

In the blink of an eye, it's Chinese New Year again.

This year, Huo Qingfeng and Ling Ruoke took their son back to B City for the New Year. Grandparents and great-grandparents missed Xiao Ping'an, so they decided to take advantage of the holiday to fulfill their wish.

On the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month, Ling Ruoke met with several classmates in B City.

During lunch, Huo Qingfeng drank a little alcohol. He was already feeling sleepy after a big meal, and on top of that, he had just returned from a mission yesterday and rushed to B City, plus he had been pestering his wife to do "lovemaking" last night, so he was quite tired. He planned to go back to his room for a nap, but Ping'an absolutely refused to go with her grandmother, clinging to Huo Qingfeng's neck and refusing to let go.
