Ling Ruoke held her breath, looking into those bright black eyes, trying to discern the other person's appearance.
Squinting, she calmly asked, "Who are you?" while her mind raced, searching for an opportunity to escape.
The other person did not answer, and pressed the dagger against her throat with even more force, as if it would cut her throat off in the next second.
Ling Ruoke suddenly leaned back and kicked her opponent in the jaw. The opponent dodged and did not launch another attack.
The two sides are locked in a standoff.
Just as Ling Ruoke was about to launch an attack, her opponent suddenly raised his hand and clapped three times. The lights suddenly blazed on, blinding her.
Ling Ruoke raised her arm, and the shadow quickly adjusted to the light. The other person was dressed in night clothes, wearing a headscarf and a black cloth covering their face. Their eyes were dark and bright; based on that, she could tell the person was a woman!
The other person let out a soft chuckle, raised their hand to untie the knot behind their ear, and the veil fell away. It was a familiar face, smiling gently at her.
"Mo Ran!" Ling Ruoke exclaimed in surprise, then laughed. She wondered why, if the other party wanted to kill her, he didn't just attack directly! It was just that Mo Ran was pressing her so hard that she overlooked the fact that he didn't seem to be killing her.
Mo Ran smiled slightly, put his hand on her shoulder and said, "It's already quite good that you've been able to fight me for so long. However, you still need to get stronger!"
"Thank you." Ling Ruoke understood that if Mo Ran had gone all out, she would have been defeated long ago. She smiled and looked around again. "By the way, where's the wolf?"
Mo Ran turned her head and glanced at him, saying in a helpless tone, "Well, he's just pretending to be cool."
"Who said I'm pretending to be cool? This is real cool!" Wild Wolf emerged from around the corner, tall and slender, impeccably dressed, with a roguish smile. One hand in his pocket, the other hanging naturally at his side, he strode forward. At first glance, he certainly appeared dashing, the kind of man who would attract attention wherever he went.
Ling Ruoke and Mo Ran exchanged a glance, a smile in their eyes. They thought to themselves, as if they were telepathically trying to look cool.
"Baby, it's been so long since we last met, shouldn't you be a little excited?" The wolf frowned aggrievedly, slowly opening his arms as if to say, "Come into my arms."
Ling Ruoke pouted, watching him approach with a smile. She admitted that seeing this big bad wolf made her feel very good, really very good! This person had given her so much. The unexpected turn of events back then had indeed been an immeasurable gain for her.
"Come on, baby!" The wolf stopped, arms outstretched, waiting for her to throw herself into his arms.
Ling Ruoke chuckled and pouted. "Your embrace is in the wrong direction. Mo Ran is over there."
"Baby, it's been so long since we last met, and instead of showing any excitement, you've pushed me onto another woman. My heart is broken, and you have to take responsibility!" He clutched his left chest with his right hand, looking heartbroken.
Mo Ran simply walked out, leaving the place for him to perform. He'd been so bored lately, he needed to vent, so let him be.
Ling Ruoke covered her mouth and giggled. "Mo Ran is angry, what should we do?"
"Make it cold!" As soon as he finished speaking, he pounced on her.
Ling Ruoke nimbly dodged his bear hug. The next second, he quickly grabbed her arm, pulled her forcefully, and carried her away. "Hey, what do you think you're doing? Trying to abduct an innocent woman?"
The wolf locked her up, refusing to let go no matter how much she struggled. He breathed into her ear, watching it turn red, and his smile grew even more wicked. "Rape is so much easier, why bother robbing?"
As he spoke, he grabbed her hands, laid her down, and was about to kiss her.
Ling Ruoke looked at him and asked calmly, "Are you going to release them or not?"
"I won't let go, I'd rather die than let go." He acted like a complete scoundrel.
Ling Ruoke bent her leg, about to kick his groin. Just as he was about to defend himself, she suddenly changed direction, raising her leg high and kicking him over the head.
The wolf quickly let go, jumped aside, and cried out in grievance, "Baby, are you trying to murder your husband?!"
Ling Ruoke chuckled and approached him. "Stop fooling around. If Mo Ran gets upset later, you'll be in big trouble. Or do you just like to take the blame?"
"Will my darling be with me? If my darling is with me, I don't care if I walk in an S-shape." Wild Wolf grinned, completely losing his composure. But he didn't care at all; he was genuinely happy.
Ling Ruoke said fiercely, "I'll whip you from behind!" She even made a whipping motion with her hand.
The wolf feigned surprise. "Baby, so you like the really edgy stuff! That's great! I'll have someone buy some interesting props when we get back, and we'll have a blast!"
"I'm not going to argue with you anymore, or Mo Ran will get upset." Ling Ruoke stepped out of the tea room. Mo Ran was sitting in the open-plan conference room outside the tea room, watching the show with a relaxed air. There was no displeasure on his face, but rather a half-smile as he glanced at Wild Wolf.
Ling Ruoke sat down next to Mo Ran, ignoring the aggrieved-looking Wild Wolf. "Why did you come to Z City?"
Mo Ran pointed at the wolf with her chin. "Ask him. He said he missed his baby, so he rushed over without thinking of anything else. I told him to come back tomorrow, but he wasn't happy about it and insisted on leaving in a hurry. You wouldn't believe it, he even stupidly asked if the plane could go faster on the plane. He treated the plane like a taxi."
Ling Ruoke carefully observed her expression, but nothing seemed amiss. She couldn't figure out what these two were up to; were they just here to torment her?
"Give me your hand." The wolf strolled over leisurely and asked Ling Ruoke to extend her hand.
Ling Ruoke looked at him, then at Mo Ran, puzzled. Mo Ran shrugged, giving her an "I don't know anything" look. "What?"
"Will you extend your hand or not? If you don't, I'll kiss you!" he threatened, sounding like a bully.
Ling Ruoke chuckled, then turned to Mo Ran and asked, "Mo Ran, are you sure he didn't get his head caught in a door before he came here?"
Mo Ran frowned, glanced at the person, and said coolly, "I'm not sure. How about we take him to the hospital for a checkup?"
"Okay. That's what I meant too. The psychiatric hospital isn't far from here, so it's convenient."
The wolf watched their discussion with an air of composure, and then called out, "Put your hands out, hurry up!"
Ling Ruoke glanced at him, then at Mo Ran, and finally extended her hand. She extended her left hand, the engagement ring on her middle finger, sparkling brilliantly. It was a simple design, but it looked very elegant.
The wolf pursed its lips, clearly displeased. "What are you showing off? Change it."
Ling Ruoke obediently withdrew her left hand and stretched out her right, full of doubt. She felt that this person had become even more mischievous since she last saw him. Judging from the current situation, he seemed to be growing more and more like a child. "Hey, are you sure you haven't regressed to a younger age?"
"Straighten your fingers."
Ling Ruoke obediently did as she was told, and a ring appeared on her middle finger. Realizing it was a ring, she quickly bent her hand. But Wild Wolf grabbed her finger and forced the ring on. "Hey, what are you doing?"
"Keep it on, and don't take it off without my permission." Wild Wolf's face suddenly turned serious, as if the person who had been grinning just moments before was not him at all.
Ling Ruoke stared blankly at him, then at Mo Ran. Although filled with questions, she asked nothing. Touching the ring on her hand, she realized it was a diamond ring, not much different from ordinary diamond rings. She had just put it on and wasn't used to it yet; it felt strange.
For a moment, I didn't know what to say. I searched my mind, considering what to say.
"Baby, are you too touched?" Wild Wolf reverted to his roguish demeanor, leaning close to her and asking with a grin.
Ling Ruoke narrowed her eyes slightly as she looked at him. "Hey, you big bad wolf, are you trying to change your expression? Are you kidding me?"
"Baby, you've broken my heart."
Mo Ran suddenly stood up and pulled him outside. "Stop fooling around, we should go."
"Huh?" This time Ling Ruoke was taken aback. "Leaving now?"
“Baby, I knew you couldn’t bear to part with me!” Wild Wolf broke free from Mo Ran’s hand and crept back to Ling Ruoke’s side. Then he leaned in and whispered in her ear, “There will be an important operation soon, and this ring is the symbol. Don’t take it off without my permission.”
Ling Ruoke couldn't help but touch the ring again, without asking what the operation was about. There were things she couldn't ask.
Back in the office, we grabbed our laptops and the three of us went downstairs together. A black car was waiting quietly downstairs. It was parked in the shadows, almost invisible if you weren't looking closely; the license plate was covered.
"Baby, I'm leaving. Don't miss me too much." The wolf kissed her forehead, made a cool gesture, and raised an eyebrow.
Ling Ruoke watched him get into the car. The window rolled down, and he waved to her. She walked over and bent down. At his prompting, she put her ear in front of him.
"Baby, I've missed your taste." His hot breath brushed against her sensitive ear, accompanied by his joyful laughter.
Before Ling Ruoke could retaliate, the car suddenly drove away, leaving her with a cloud of dust.
Ling Ruoke stood there for a long time in the darkness. It was an awkward meeting, yet it warmed her heart. This man with such a tarnished reputation made her feel warm.
Taking a deep breath, Ling Ruoke turned and walked towards her usual parking spot. She felt relaxed and happy. Suddenly, she sensed someone watching her. The hairs on her body immediately stood on end. "Who's there?"
A person slowly walked out from behind the tree next to them; it was none other than Cang Weiwo.
Seeing that it was him, Ling Ruoke secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She frowned slightly and asked, "Why are you still here?"
"I'm worried about you."
Ling Ruoke looked at him, suddenly at a loss for words. Facing the gentle Cang Weiwo, she truly didn't know what to say. They weren't ordinary friends, but former lovers. The meeting of these two was inherently awkward. "Cang Weiwo, now that you've set me free, some things should be let go."
"Setting you free doesn't mean I'll ignore you from now on." Cang Wei took a step forward, standing right in front of her. He looked down at her, his gaze filled with tenderness.
Ling Ruoke withdrew her gaze and turned to look at her car. "You shouldn't waste any more time and energy on me. You should cherish the people around you. I saw Ru Mingyue in B City, I—"
"Don't worry about this. I know what I'm doing. She's not important." She was just a substitute; he didn't want a substitute! She's gone, so be it. It's peaceful now that she's gone!
Ling Ruoke was speechless. After a moment of silence, she looked up at him again. "Then you shouldn't interfere in my affairs either. Let's both let go of each other and not intrude on each other's worlds anymore, okay?"
"I can't do it." Giving her freedom and letting go are two different things. He never intended to let go, never!
Ling Ruoke sighed, unsure how to express her feelings. Her mind was in turmoil, because this man had once given her wonderful times. Although he had hurt her, he genuinely cared for her now. "Then there's nothing I can do. I don't want anything to do with you anymore; I don't want him to misunderstand. You should focus on caring for the people around you, or you'll regret it later."
After saying that, she took out her keys, opened the car door, and was about to get in.
Cang Wei grabbed her arm and pulled her into his embrace. "Ruo Ke, is it true that if you make a mistake once, there's no chance to correct it?"
"You can correct it, but you can't go back. It's like something broken; you can fix it, but it will never be the same again. Unless you buy an exact replica, but it won't be the same one. In fact, out with the old, in with the new; perhaps the new is even better. You might as well try to feel and discover with your heart."
"No!" Cang Wei hugged her tightly, burying his face in her neck. "I only want you."
Ling Ruoke gritted her teeth, raised her leg and kicked him, forcing him to let go. "Cang Weiwo, I've let go, and I won't look back. I hope you can let go too, just to let yourself off the hook."
She got into the car, started it, and drove away.
In the rearview mirror, the man slowly shrank, and she couldn't see the expression on his face. But she could feel his sadness. Unable to bear watching any longer, she sped up and drove away.
She only breathed a sigh of relief when she could no longer see the person in the rearview mirror. However, her previous lighthearted mood was gone.
They once loved each other deeply, they once shared wonderful times, they once dreamed together about marriage and family, they even thought about how many children they would have and what to name them... The whispers, laughter, and arguments of those days seem to still echo in my ears. But, all of that is in the past.
Regardless, we must live in the present and move towards the future. No matter how many beautiful moments we had, once they are gone, we must cherish them in our memories. Only in this way can we continue to move forward.
Sometimes, we're so reluctant to let go of the beautiful things we once had that we become burdened and unable to move forward. This tires us out and others as well. It's like clothes; we constantly buy new ones and replace the old. If we kept all the clothes we've worn since birth, how many would they be? How much space would we need to store them all? Gradually, they lose their beauty and become a burden.
You have to give up something to gain something. But often we can't see this clearly. As a result, we become obsessed and entangled, ending up scarred and wounded.
At this moment, Ling Ruoke hoped he could be happy, even though he had made an unforgivable mistake towards her. He had also suffered far too much and deserved a suitable woman to give him warm love and companionship, and to build a home together.
When I was filled with hatred, I always remembered the hurt he caused. Now that I've let go, I can't help but remember his kindness and his suffering. The dead are gone, and clinging to hatred is futile, so let's choose forgiveness.
Cang Weiwo…
Ling Ruoke silently repeated the name in her heart. Her eyes warmed slightly, as if tears were about to spill. She tilted her head back and took a deep breath to calm herself down.
A cool breeze blew in through the car window, ruffling her newly grown hair and unsettling her heart.
That's life; no one knows who will be whose calamity!
