Chapter 147 Dual Swords Combined 1

Ling Ruoke bent down, pulled something out from the side of her shoe, opened it, and found it was something resembling a military dagger.

It was a gift from Cheetah, smaller and easier to store than a military dagger, yet just as powerful, especially in the hands of a capable person. Ling Ruoke had brought it with her these past few days due to various troubles, never expecting it would actually come in handy.

The two people stood back to back, leaning tightly together. The other side consisted of ten men, all dressed in black, their faces covered, except for their eyes, which gleamed like wolves in the darkness.

Ling Ruoke was worried about the colonel's injury, so she turned her head slightly and whispered, "You're injured, don't force yourself."

"Don't worry. Your husband isn't that bad." Huo Qingfeng curled his lips into a bloodthirsty smile.

"superior!"

Although Ling Ruoke had been trained by the cheetah for a long time, she was kind-hearted and often lacked ruthlessness. To date, she hadn't killed anyone, or even seriously injured anyone. This made her extremely vulnerable when faced with danger. A person who isn't ruthless enough will give their enemy an opening in a fight, ultimately costing them their own life.

But tonight is different. Huo Qingfeng is injured and not fit to fight.

Ling Ruo didn't want his wounds to reopen, nor did she want him to be injured a second time, so she fought with all her might. Her lips were tightly pressed together, and every move she made was the most ruthless; she had to protect her colonel!

At that moment, Ling Ruoke suddenly understood Mo Ran's feelings. Mo Ran must know the suffering the wild wolf had endured, otherwise she wouldn't have trained herself again and again to protect it!

The dagger seemed to come alive in her hands, perfectly synchronized with her movements and even her entire being, allowing her to move freely among a pack of wolf-like men in black. Every thrust was aimed straight for vital organs, without hesitation!

When the person or thing you desperately want to protect is in danger, even the kindest person can become ruthless because they don't want to lose it.

On the other side, Huo Qingfeng immediately targeted the person he considered the weakest, unleashing a barrage of attacks that sent him flying and disarmed him. His injuries hadn't fully healed, but it didn't affect him much; he was still the same fearsome blade that inspired terror!

Just as the fight was reaching a stalemate, police sirens wailed, and they sounded like they were about to arrive. Keep in mind, Z City is small; the police would get there quickly!

The group exchanged glances, then retreated in unison in the same direction, quickly disappearing into the darkness, getting into their vehicle, and leaving.

"Qingfeng, are you alright?" Ling Ruoke put away the "military dagger" and rushed over.

Huo Qingfeng chuckled and patted her cheek. "It's alright. Is your husband really that useless in your eyes?"

"No, I was just worried!" she said coquettishly after confirming that he was alright.

Huo Qingfeng pulled her along a side street. "Let's go." They crossed the side street to the other side of the road, hailed a taxi, and headed straight home.

After pulling Ling Ruoke inside, Huo Qingfeng took out the knife. The gleaming blade had a scorpion design near the hilt. "Wife, was this the symbol you saw last time?"

Ling Ruoke examined it from different angles and confirmed that it was indeed this knife. "Do you recognize this symbol?" She had a feeling that he knew this symbol.

Huo Qingfeng shook his head, put down the knife, and hugged her tightly. "I don't know her. Honey, don't worry about this, leave it to me, okay?"

"Let me see your wound first." Ling Ruoke nodded, pulled away from his embrace, and lifted her clothes to examine his wound. Thankfully, it hadn't reopened, and there was no bleeding. She still reached out and gently touched around it. "Does it really not hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt at all." Huo Qingfeng lowered his head and kissed her lips, then pulled her down onto the sofa. He had wanted to do it in the living room for a long time, but with the little one around, he hadn't had the chance.

By the time Ling Ruoke realized his intentions, it was too late to refuse.

In the spacious living room, the woman's moans and the man's heavy breathing echoed...

Afterwards, Ling Ruoke looked like she had been pulled out of the water, her whole body was soaking wet.

Finally, Huo Qingfeng half-carried, half-embraced her and led her into the bathroom, where they made love again in the bathtub. He smiled with satisfaction as he watched her fall asleep as soon as they got back to bed.

He carried her back to bed, then returned to the living room, picked up the knife, and slowly ran his long fingers along the blade. His slightly narrowed eyes held a light that made it difficult to look directly at him.

He took out his computer and typed for a long time, not returning to his room until midnight. He then lay down with his beloved woman in his arms. Before falling asleep, he adjusted her position, letting her face him and nestle into his embrace, before gently kissing her forehead.

Goodnight, my darling.

...

I had promised Mei Yanting that I would go to the hospital with her to see the colonel on Friday night, but this promise was put on hold because Yuan Meng was leaving.

The colonel has now gone home to recuperate and will be returning to his unit in a few days. Ling Ruoke thought she would invite Mei Yanting over for dinner and then chat with her.

Ling Ruoke didn't go to work that day; instead, she stayed home with the colonel and handled some tasks on the computer. Around the time she was about to leave work, she began preparing dinner.

When Mei Yanting arrived, all the work was already done, and all that was left was to start cooking. Ruo Ke was still in charge of the cooking, and Mei Yanting was just helping out and observing.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Mei Yanting ran out to open the door. Not just the living room door, but the main gate in the yard, which she had to run across the garden to open.

When Mei Yanting opened the door and saw the tall man in military uniform standing outside, she was genuinely stunned. "You...who are you looking for?"

The young soldier outside the door saw the girl and his eyes lit up. His dark face flushed with embarrassment, though his dark skin made it difficult to see. "I...I'm looking for the captain, Huo Qingfeng."

Mei Yanting was also a little shy. Even though she couldn't see him clearly by the light in the courtyard, she could tell he was tall and strong. Knowing that Huo Qingfeng was her brother-in-law's name, she quickly ushered him in. "Please come in."

Mei Yanting turned and walked ahead, unconsciously straightening her posture and pulling in her stomach, making her walk more graceful than usual. Knowing that the person behind her was looking at her, her heart pounded. She wondered if Sister Ximeng was going to introduce her to a boyfriend.

Chen Shan didn't think too much about it. Although his sister-in-law had promised to introduce him to someone, he had come to see the team leader by chance, not because his sister-in-law had asked him to come beforehand, which meant this wasn't a matchmaking event. He was simple-minded; since it wasn't a matchmaking event, he wouldn't think of it that way. His blushing earlier was simply because he saw a strange girl—after all, they rarely saw a girl's face all year round!

This was outside. If they saw a girl in the barracks, they would definitely whistle and jeer, making the girl shy and too embarrassed to even lift her head. There was no other way; a bunch of bachelors, without women to keep them company, could only watch from afar and make fun of them to console themselves.

Ling Ruoke was genuinely surprised to see Chen Shan. He said he had come to the city on business and then came to see the team leader. "We were just about to eat, so sit and wait a bit, and we'll have food soon."

"Thank you, sister-in-law, I'm in for a treat today." Chen Shan scratched his head sheepishly and smiled憨厚ly.

If it weren't for the impoliteness, Ling Ruoke sometimes really wanted to pat his head. Qingfeng's soldiers were all like children, especially honest and adorable. Especially their smiles, so innocent and endearing, instantly winning people's hearts. "Then you sit and wait, I'll go and cook the rest of the dishes." With that, she went back.

Mei Yanting was shy, so she quickly jumped up and followed her inside.

The main dishes are all ready; only a few vegetable dishes are needed before we can eat. Ling Ruoke is already quite adept at the process: washing the pot, heating it, adding oil, adding the vegetables, stir-frying, adding seasonings, and after a few more stirs, it's ready to serve.

"Sister Ximeng, do your brother-in-law's soldiers often come to your house for meals?" Mei Yanting asked casually, keeping her head down, afraid of being discovered.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with that. She's a young woman living far from home and has suffered a lot, so naturally she wants to find a reliable man to rely on. And soldiers naturally give people a sense of security, so it's understandable that she would have such thoughts.

Ling Ruoke didn't take it to heart. "How could that be? Soldiers are very busy, they don't get many days off all year round, so even if they wanted to come, they couldn't."

"Oh." Mei Yanting opened her mouth as if to say something, but then swallowed it back and didn't ask any more questions.

The food was all served, a sumptuous feast.

"Chen Shan, call your captain down for dinner." Chen Shan had helped with the move, so he knew where the master bedroom was.

"I'm going right away." Chen Shan rushed forward like a nimble leopard.

As Mei Yanting served herself rice, she looked around, her mind racing. Dark skin, a kind smile, a strong physique, and agile movements—she'd never seen a man like this in Y City. Aside from her brother-in-law, this was only the second time she'd met a man like him. And this Chen Shan in front of her seemed more approachable than her brother-in-law; at least he didn't have those sharp, piercing eyes. Instead, he was quite honest and kind, with a silly, amusing smile.

Originally there were only three people, but now that Chen Shan has joined, the dinner table is quite lively.

Despite Huo Qingfeng's intimidating, expressionless face, his soldiers weren't afraid of him at all. In the army, while rank was important, in ordinary times, they were all brothers regardless of rank! So, when Huo Qingfeng asked, Chen Shan answered, talking about things in the army.

Ling Ruoke doesn't like to talk while eating; she listens quietly and only interjects when necessary.

Mei Yanting listened with great interest, and every time her gaze swept across Chen Shan's face, she felt her heart beat faster. Her mind was so full of thoughts that she didn't even taste the food.

Soldiers have big appetites, so Ling Ruoke specially found a large bowl for the two of them and filled two large bowls in front of them. Luckily, she liked porridge, so she cooked extra.

Mei Yanting watched them eat from large bowls, her eyes wide with astonishment. When she saw them quickly finish the bowls, her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

Ling Ruoke then noticed Mei Yanting's expression and chuckled. "Yanting, soldiers have big appetites, that's how it is, you'll get used to it."

"I...I eat a lot." Chen Shan chuckled sheepishly, scratching his head sheepishly.

Seeing his silly expression, Mei Yanting couldn't help but cover her mouth and chuckle. Soldiers are so adorable!

Even the slow-witted Ling Ruoke couldn't help but have her thoughts wander. Judging from Mei Yanting's expression, it seemed she had some feelings for Chen Shan. Chen Shan, on the other hand, looked clueless and hadn't even considered this possibility yet.

Ling Ruoke remembered that she originally intended to introduce a girlfriend to Chen Shan. Why not introduce Mei Yanting to him? Mei Yanting had that kind of experience, would Chen Shan mind? Or should she ask the colonel about it?

Suddenly, she remembered what Yuan Meng and Xia Mo had both said: Mei Yanting had a demon in her heart. Was someone with a demon in their heart suitable for dating and marriage before clearing it away? These soldiers of Qingfeng were all honest young men; she couldn't let them be harmed. Perhaps she should observe them for a while longer. Marriage was a serious matter; she couldn't rush it.

"Sister Ximeng, I should go back now. The blankets and sheets at home are soaking in water and haven't been washed yet." After dinner, and after helping to wash the dishes and tidy up the kitchen, Mei Yanting asked to go back.

"So early? Why don't you stay here tonight?" Yuan Meng left, and the little guy left too. There are plenty of rooms in the house.

"No need. The quilt can't be soaked for too long, or it will fade. Sister Ximeng, brother-in-law, and classmate Chen, I'll head back now." Mei Yanting waved her hand and walked quickly out.

Ling Ruoke escorted her to the door and watched her ride away on her bicycle.

Chen Shan had to rush back to his unit, so he had to go back soon after Mei Yanting left.

After everyone left, Ling Ruoke snuggled up to the colonel. "Do you think it's appropriate to pair Mei Yanting and Chen Shan together?"

"Not appropriate." Huo Qingfeng was watching the military channel and gave his answer without even looking up.

Ling Ruoke turned his face towards her. "Why isn't it suitable?" It's already difficult for soldiers to find wives; if they're picky, it'll be even harder.

Huo Qingfeng reached out and put his arm around her waist. "She's not suitable for Chen Shan. To put it bluntly, she's not good enough for my soldiers."

Ling Ruo knew that the colonel had never had a good impression of Mei Yanting. But hearing him so direct, she couldn't help but pinch him and glare at him, saying, "Don't make it sound like Mei Yanting is so bad. She's actually a very good person, she's just suffered too much, so maybe her thinking is a bit skewed."

“I know I didn’t say she was bad. But she’s still not good enough for my soldiers,” the colonel said bluntly.

Ling Ruoke felt like she'd been slapped in the face. She pouted and stood up to go back to her room. "Fine, never mind then."

She hadn't taken two steps when the colonel grabbed her and pulled her into his arms. He grinned and kissed her, nuzzling his face against hers. "Are you angry?"

"What's there to be angry about? It's not like I'm the one getting married." He said he wasn't angry, but his puffed-up cheeks couldn't lie.

Huo Qingfeng couldn't help but laugh, pulling him onto his lap. "I'm not saying Mei Yanting is bad, but a woman who isn't broad-minded can't be a military wife. You know, not every woman can accept the life of being apart so often. If she's not broad-minded, then over time she'll have many complaints, leading to arguments and even divorce. My soldiers are all single-minded; once they marry, they cherish their wives for life, hoping to live a life of wife, children, and a warm bed. So, I don't want any possibility of divorce. And we can't knowingly put them together, can we?"

Ling Ruoke immediately calmed down, realizing he was telling the truth. Besides, the colonel was far more astute than her when it came to judging people. "I know. Didn't you see I didn't introduce them to anyone? I was just asking for your opinion."

Huo Qingfeng smiled and kissed her, and the two of them snuggled together watching TV. They would occasionally exchange a few words and banter, creating a very warm and cozy atmosphere.

...

Mei Yanting rode her bicycle out of the residential area, dismounted a short distance from the gate, and slowly walked away, pushing her bike. Because it was in the suburbs, the trees were lush, and the evening breeze carried away the heat, making it very comfortable.

Mei Yanting thoroughly enjoyed this feeling, walking very slowly along the roadside. If someone were to accompany her on a walk like this at night, that would be a kind of happiness too.

Having been in Z City for a while now, she had to admit that life here was much more comfortable than in Y City. At least no one was chasing her for rent, and she could save most of her monthly salary after deducting food expenses. Although it was only the beginning and she didn't have much money in her account yet, for someone who was always broke or even in debt, having two thousand yuan in savings was a cause for celebration. Mei Yanting was exactly in that situation.

The apartment was rented by Xi Meng, and Mei Yanting had considered paying back the money she had spent on clothes. However, she didn't have enough money right now, so she planned to owe it to Xi Meng and pay it back slowly when she had more. After all, Xi Meng wasn't short of money.

Overall, life was fairly comfortable, but being alone inevitably brought some loneliness. Whenever I saw others in pairs, all sweet and loving, I felt very desolate. Sometimes, lying in bed, I would think of Xu An, and my heart would ache as if being scratched by a cat.

Everyone is afraid of being alone, and she was no exception.

Mei Yanting took a deep breath and exhaled, trying to shake off the heavy feeling. Looking down at the road beneath her feet, a sense of loneliness welled up within her. She was so focused on her emotions that she didn't notice the approaching danger. It wasn't until her path was blocked that she snapped back to reality.

The group of people in front of me were dressed in strange clothes, their hair was dyed messily, and they were chewing gum in an unsightly way; they were obviously delinquent teenagers. Their eyes and expressions clearly showed what they wanted to do.

"What...what do you want to do?" Mei Yanting gripped the bicycle handlebars tightly, struggling to breathe. In a daze, she seemed to be transported back to the scene of being violated by those beasts of loan sharks. Her body trembled uncontrollably, her eyes filled with deep fear.

"Ah, let me go! What are you doing? Uh-huh..." Several men pried her hands off and dragged her into the shadows. Her bicycle lay abandoned on the roadside, pitifully ignored.

Mei Yanting's mouth was covered. Those people easily grabbed her and dragged her away. She was terrified, and tears began to fall in large drops.

As the man reached inside her clothes and began to knead her body, she felt utterly hopeless. Because the others were holding her limbs down, she couldn't move at all. She closed her eyes in despair, too weak even to cry. Just then, the restraints on her suddenly loosened, and she heard the screams of the men and the sounds of being beaten.

Mei Yanting clutched her clothes, curling up into a ball. It was pitch black all around, and she couldn't see anything. After a moment of stunned silence, she remembered she needed to escape, and scrambled towards the light.

When two hands landed on her shoulders, she screamed in fright and struggled violently.

"Don't be afraid, it's me, I'm Chen Shan!" It turned out that Chen Shan came out not long after Mei Yanting left, and he was driving. Thanks to the special forces' sharp eyes and memory, he saw the bicycle when he entered the room and remembered it.

He wasn't driving fast, so he quickly recognized the car lying on the side of the road. The car was overturned, which meant something must have happened, so he immediately stopped. After a quick assessment, he found the direction and just in time to save Mei Yanting.

The name "Chen Shan" was like heavenly music to Mei Yanting. She burst into tears and threw herself into Chen Shan's arms. Clutching his clothes, she cried uncontrollably like a child.

Chen Shan was so embarrassed he didn't know what to do. His hands froze for a long time before he came to his senses, picked her up, and put her in his car. The bicycle was also picked up and put in the trunk.

The wheel of fate turns unpredictably.
