After wandering around outside for most of the day, the mother and son were tired and hungry, so they took a taxi home.
As soon as they got downstairs, they saw Tan Peishi sitting on the flowerbed, a blade of grass dangling from her mouth, legs crossed and swinging back and forth. Seeing them, she immediately jumped up and rushed over like a locomotive, scooping up the little one. She spun him around several times on the spot.
The little one giggled, and Tan Peishi was happy too. Only Ling Ruoke's heart pounded with fear, afraid that she would drop the little one. "Peishi, be careful, don't fall!"
Tan Peishi spun around enough, staggered to her feet, and was still panting. "Don't worry, don't underestimate me, right, Xiao Fu'an?"
The little one grinned, showing off his tender gums. His excited laughter quacked like a little duck.
Ling Ruoke felt helpless towards these two people and could only shake her head. "How did you end up here?"
Tan Peishi stood with her hands on her hips, panting, and pouted. "Fu Peigang isn't home, so I came to visit and chat."
Upon hearing this, Ling Ruoke teased, "I think you've come to my house to freeload a meal, haven't you?"
Ling Ruoke hugged her tightly, exclaiming, "You understand me so well! Actually, I'm not entirely here to freeload. I mainly came to check if your cooking has improved while the captain's not home!"
"You're so good at making things up. Okay, let's go in. Have you been waiting long? Why didn't you call me?"
“It wasn’t long ago. I called, but you didn’t answer.” Tan Peishi picked up the little guy and let him ride on her shoulders.
Ling Ruoke took out her phone and saw that there were indeed missed calls. "Sorry, I didn't hear it."
"It's alright. By the way, where did you guys go? Why are you only getting back now?"
Before Ling Ruoke could answer, the little one started waving his arms and legs excitedly on her shoulder, shouting, "Cake, eat cake... see, um, Auntie..."
Tan Peishi was amused by his rambling words and tickled the sole of his foot. "Little Fu'an, what language are you speaking? I don't understand. Auntie, who is it?"
"Gu Zhenzhen".
Tan Peishi pouted. "Those two sisters again, always haunting us, so annoying! By the way, she didn't say anything nasty, did she?"
Ling Ruoke smiled, shook her head, and went to open the door. "No, but she mentioned to me Huo Qingfeng's previous woman, Guzheng."
"Damn it!" Tan Peishi put the little one down and cursed! "Those two sisters are both incredibly boring and shameless! I'm telling you, Ruoke, don't fall for their tricks. The captain is absolutely sincere towards you!"
Ling Ruoke was amused by her confident assurance. "I know, I won't hold the past against you."
As long as it has nothing to do with the future, she shouldn't care. If Huo Qingfeng can overlook her past, how can she be so ungrateful?
"That's right! Next time I see those shameless sisters, I'll definitely give them a piece of my mind!" Tan Peishi took the water that was handed to her, still indignant.
Ling Ruoke smiled, not wanting to continue the topic. "Alright, don't get angry over those irrelevant people."
"Hehe, that's true." Tan Peishi stuck out her tongue. If Ruoke didn't care, she cared even less. However, those two sisters were really annoying; she'd definitely give them a good dressing down next time they met!
But then her playful side kicked in, and she pulled the little guy close. "Little Fu'an, can Auntie ask you a question?"
The little one was hugging a toy, blinking his big eyes, and nodding with a smile. "Okay!"
"Good girl!" Tan Peishi was in a great mood. "What if someone tries to get rid of your mommy?"
"Peishi, don't talk nonsense with the child."
Tan Peishi waved her hand, signaling her not to interfere. Ruo Ke might not know, but she certainly did. Xiao Fu'an was the Huo family's darling, and his support would be very useful to Ruo Ke.
The little one blinked his eyes for a moment, then suddenly dropped his toy, ran over, and hugged Ruoke's leg tightly. "Mommy, don't go!"
"Pfft!" Tan Peishi burst out laughing. How come this child didn't grasp the key point!
Ling Ruoke quickly hugged the little one and glared at the culprit. "Baby, be good, Mommy isn't leaving! Auntie was just kidding!"
Little Fu'an pouted and tugged at Ruo Ke's clothes. "Mommy, come down, come down!"
When he got downstairs, he ran up to Tan Peishi, looked up and exclaimed, "Auntie, you're bad!"
Tan Peishi immediately wore a bitter expression; how did she become the bad guy?
Ling Ruoke couldn't help but laugh. Ignoring them, she went into the kitchen to cook.
Tan Peishi was not convinced, so she pulled the little guy down to sit and began to teach him patiently.
"Fu'an, it's not that your mommy wants to leave, it's that someone wants to be Fu'an's new mommy, so they want to get rid of this mommy!"
"Someone's trying to get rid of Mommy?" This time, the little one understood. His little brows furrowed immediately, and his little mouth pursed tightly, looking very anxious.
"Yes, someone's trying to get Mommy away." Just as she was about to press on, the little guy suddenly turned around and ran into the kitchen. She strode after him and saw the little guy hugging his mother's leg, crying out, "Mommy, don't go!"
Ling Ruoke had no choice but to pick him up and comfort him. She turned her head and glared at the mischievous Pei Shi.
Tan Peishi touched her nose, feeling wronged and defeated. There really is a generation gap!
As a result, the little one was frightened and refused to leave Ruoke's arms all night. So, Tan Peishi, who had come specifically to freeload, had to cook herself. Frustrated, she howled and cried in the kitchen.
After dinner, the two of them watched cartoons with the little guy for a while. After giving him a bath, they were both tired, so they went back to their respective bedrooms to sleep.
Just as Ling Ruoke was drifting off to sleep, she suddenly felt something press against her back. But she was still drowsy and couldn't wake up, so she fell asleep again soon after.
Colonel Huo embraced his wife and closed his eyes contentedly. He had felt uneasy ever since the Gu sisters appeared earlier that day. He had stayed up until midnight, but still secretly slipped back home.
After a day of training and this ordeal, he was exhausted. He held his wife close and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
The autumn night was already cool, and Ling Ruoke instinctively shrank towards the source of warmth. Colonel Huo, like an octopus, completely clung to her. The two of them huddled together, both having a good night's sleep.
Because of caring for the little one, Ling Ruoke had developed a habit of going to bed early and waking up early. Upon opening her eyes, she suddenly saw a wall of flesh in front of her and almost screamed in fright. Fortunately, the familiar scent allowed her to stop in time.
The moment she moved, Huo Qingfeng woke up. "Good morning, wife."
Ling Ruoke poked his chest and asked, "Why are you back?"
Colonel Huo's eyes were filled with a smile. "I missed you, so I came back."
As he spoke, he lowered his head and pecked her lips, which quickly escalated into a passionate kiss. Just as they were getting into their throes and about to get down to business, a small figure came running in.
"Mommy!" The little one, eyes half-open, ran to the bedside, kicked off his shoes, and climbed onto the bed. It turned out that the little one had developed a habit these past few days: every morning he would run from his own room to Ruoke's room and sleep in her bed for half an hour. This habit was unwavering.
Huo Qingfeng had already covered himself and his wife up nicely, and seeing the little guy lying on the bed and snoring away, he gritted his teeth in frustration. Why did this little guy always ruin his good time! He was also annoyed that he had been so excited last night that he forgot to close the bedroom door!
After all that commotion, Ruoke woke up and quickly got dressed and got out of bed.
Colonel Huo had no choice but to take a cold shower in the bathroom early in the morning, suppressing his desire and frustration!
