After leaving the movie theater, the family of three went into KFC for lunch.
Ling Ruoke doesn't agree with children eating junk food regularly, but it's good for children to visit places they crave occasionally, just to make them happy. What they can't have is always the best; the more you don't give them food, the more they'll miss it, and who knows, when they get older they might secretly come and eat it on their own.
She ordered a family bucket. She only ate two spicy chicken wings, but the little guy ate most of the burger, his mouth full of crumbs. The rest went into Colonel Huo's stomach, including the small half of the burger that her son hadn't finished.
Ling Ruoke sipped her soy milk, watching with a smile as Colonel Huo devoured the meat. Watching soldiers eat was truly a treat. No matter the food, they could make it taste like the finest delicacies.
Colonel Huo suddenly leaned closer to her, a smirk playing on his lips, and said, "Don't you think your husband is handsome?"
Ling Ruoke smiled, pursing her lips, and poked his cheek. "Why do I find you getting more and more arrogant? But I must admit, Comrade Huo Qingfeng is really a handsome guy!"
Colonel Huo gave her a smug kiss, making her blush.
"Hehe..." The little guy seemed to understand the interaction between his parents, and grinned foolishly to himself.
The two adults exchanged a glance, both looking at him with some confusion.
"What is he laughing at?" Ling Ruoke chuckled and rubbed the little guy's head.
Colonel Huo smiled mysteriously, then uttered, "Don't try to understand a child's thoughts; that's not a world you can comprehend."
Ling Ruoke chuckled. "What you said reminds me of a saying circulating online—don't try to beat a complete idiot, he'll drag him down to his level and then defeat you with his wealth of experience!"
Every time she thinks of this phrase, she laughs until she's weak. She first saw it in the dorm, and all of them were doubled over with laughter. They had to admit that the person who invented this phrase was a genius.
"I actually think that 'shortest but most brilliant martial arts novel in history' is even more ingenious." Colonel Huo laughed, then recalled an even more classic one.
Ling Ruoke burst out laughing too. "That bald monk, how dare he try to steal my nun? Pfft, ouch, I can't take it anymore, my stomach hurts from laughing!"
The family of three laughed and joked around, and Colonel Huo finished his family bucket meal. He started the Hummer and took his wife to school. As for the little guy, since he had nothing to do, he decided not to send him to kindergarten and would spend half a day playing with him himself.
The little guy loves amusement parks. But it's the dead of winter, and the biting wind is whipping his face, so I can't let him go. However, there's a small indoor children's playground in Z city that we could take him there.
Indoor playgrounds are limited by space, so there are fewer attractions. However, there are rides like a carousel, a soft play area, and airplanes, which should be enough for the little ones.
Huo Qingfeng found a seat and watched the little guy play with the other children. He took out his phone, which he hadn't turned on for several days.
Sure enough, as soon as I turned on the phone, there were a lot of incoming call notifications. Among them were calls from the old lady. One of the text messages was also from her—"Your father is very angry, be careful."
Holding his phone, Huo Qingfeng knew that although Ruo Ke had successfully divorced, they still had a tough battle to fight. Neither the Huo family nor Cang Weiwo would give up so easily.
Hopefully, they'll only target him and not hurt Ruoke. However, that's almost impossible. If they can't get past him, they'll inevitably turn their attention to Ruoke.
Huo Qingfeng pondered and thought in his mind, and an afternoon quickly passed.
"Alright son, let's go pick Mommy up from get off work."
The little guy was having a great time, his little face was rosy and pink. When he heard that it was time to pick up his mommy, he immediately ran over excitedly.
After picking Ruoke up, the family of three returned to their warm home.
After dinner, the family of three watched TV on the sofa.
Huo Qingfeng's phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the number and went to the balcony to answer it.
Ling Ruoke turned her head, looking at the figure on the balcony, her brows furrowing slightly. She knew the matter wasn't completely resolved. Cang Weiwo wouldn't give up so easily, and Qingfeng's parents probably wouldn't compromise so readily either. But what could she do?
Huo Qingfeng hung up the phone and came in to find his wife frowning, deep in thought. "What's wrong?" He pulled her into his arms.
Ling Ruoke tugged at his collar, looking into his eyes. "Qingfeng, no matter what happens, you must let me know. I want you to protect me, but I want to fight alongside you even more."
"It's nothing, don't overthink it. It's just that I need to go back to the unit tomorrow; I guess there'll be a new mission." He could actually guess what awaited him.
Ling Ruoke tried to read something from his face, but how could she possibly see through a special forces soldier like him? He nestled in her arms and whispered, "Just don't hide anything from me."
"No, that won't happen." Some things are simply the responsibility of a man.
Ling Ruoke finished showering and made the bed. She exhaled a breath, still feeling uneasy, a feeling she couldn't quite describe. Why did she keep feeling like she would lose him? This thought made it hard for her to breathe, and she felt a deep fear.
She suddenly regretted not agreeing to marry Qingfeng back then. If they had married, no one could have separated them unless they themselves consented. However, she wasn't divorced yet at that time. It was all so chaotic…
When Huo Qingfeng came out, he saw her leaning against the table, staring blankly out the window, lost in thought. He walked over, put his arm around her increasingly slender waist, and rested his chin on her shoulder. "Wife, what's wrong?"
Ling Ruoke slowly turned around, her arms still wrapped around his waist, and looked up. Her cheeks were flushed, and she didn't know where to look. "Qingfeng, let's... let's consummate our marriage!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she buried her face in his chest, determined never to come out and face anyone again. It was too shameful for a woman to say such things to a man!
Huo Qingfeng paused for a moment, then dug her face out. Her face was even redder than before, flushed red. "Wife, look at me."
Ling Ruoke slowly shifted her gaze, but dared not look into his eyes, only staring into the depths of them. Her face burned, as if it were being roasted on fire. Would he... would he think she was being too indecent?
"Honey, we love each other, and it's only a matter of time before we have that kind of relationship. But I want to know, why are you suddenly thinking like this? Honey, do you lack confidence in me?"
Ling Ruoke lowered her eyes, swallowing repeatedly. She admitted that she wanted to give herself to him, partly because she was afraid she wouldn't have the chance again, and partly because she genuinely wanted to use this relationship to strengthen the bond between them.
Huo Qingfeng cupped her face in his hands, his heart aching for her, not blaming her. "Wife, I want you, I want you so much. But even without that relationship, I will never give you up. Never!"
"I'm sorry." Her nose tingled, and soon her eyes were filled with tears. "But...don't you want me?"
"young married woman……"
