Chapter 12 This will make me feel great
No matter what you do, just looking at him is enough to send him to heaven.
He had been waiting for Pei Ci to turn back, but Jing Lin was destined to be disappointed.
Pei Ci didn't turn around. After tidying up her books, she walked out of the classroom.
As she left, the people in the classroom quickly dispersed.
Jinglin could only see Pei Ci being surrounded by a group of people through the classroom window.
At once……
Just like that, you left?
Jing Lin felt lost and dejected, his heart clenching with pain. This slight pain finally brought him back to his senses, and then he heard Ye Qingyu's buzzing voice in his ear.
"I'm sorry, Jing, I have a part-time job to do tonight, so I can't go to your party."
"Also, I don't know what new games you've come up with lately, Jing, but could you please stop bothering me?"
"I really don't have time."
Ye Qingyu spoke with neither servility nor arrogance, polite without being obsequious, possessing a natural air of pride and integrity.
However, Jing Lin laughed upon hearing this, tilting his head, "Doesn't Ye Qingyu have time?"
"I see." Jinglin, who was twirling his pen, threw it into the trash can. He rested his chin on his hand, his eyes round with upturned corners, looking just like an orange cat whose fur turned brownish-red in the sunlight.
The orange cat opened its eyes wide and gave a pure and innocent smile, "Let someone else do this job."
"Jinglin!" Ye Qingyu's eyes flashed with anger, her face icy cold. "You can't ruin my job."
“I can.” Jing Lin yawned and lazily placed the invitation on Ye Qingyu’s collar. “There’s nothing the Jing family can’t do.”
"Of course, if you insist on not coming, I'll have to ask you to ask another friend."
"Jinglin, don't push your luck!" Ye Qingyu stood up, her chest heaving.
Jing Lin sensed that the guy's anger was superficial, but he didn't care. When Pei Ci wasn't around, he was just a plaything. Now that she had leveled up, he was just a tool to attract Ci Ci's attention.
He doesn't care whether the tool is genuinely angry or not, as long as it appears angry.
After saying that, Jinglin walked out of the classroom.
He remembered Pei Ci's footprints when she left, and the thought that this was the path she had walked made his heart burn with passion.
Even the bad mood I had in the afternoon from dealing with the mess the Jing family made was cured.
Ye Qingyu, however, remained calm and composed in the classroom.
*
On the other side.
After two consecutive classes, it was lunchtime.
To cater to the needs of aristocratic young men and women, Anta School built a very large dining hall, spanning five floors. The top two floors were almost comparable to the luxury restaurants outside, and of course, the prices were quite exorbitant as well.
Young masters and ladies from prominent families dine up there.
"Ah Ci, let's go to the fifth floor for dinner."
"I specially had the fish flown in from Westland today, and the chef is a newly arrived five-star chef, so it must be exceptionally delicious."
"Yes, I'm really craving her fish, but unfortunately my order won't be delivered until the day after tomorrow."
"Oh, if you don't want fish, there are other options."
"Ah Ci, what would you like to eat?"
Anta Academy is a small social circle, and naturally, there are key figures within it. Previously, this person was Zhou Shiyue, who studied cello, but she's currently on a music tour and won't be back at school until about next month. The newly arrived Pei Ci has clearly become the new focus of the circle, the center of attention.
Pei Ci was used to this, but that didn't mean she liked it. After walking downstairs with the girls, Pei Ci said:
"I'm sorry, I can't have a meal with you."
"Huh?" The girls were all taken aback. "Why?"
Pei Ci lifted the clothes on her wrist, revealing large and small reddish-brown needle holes on her pale skin and slender wrist bones. These needle holes were like flaws in white porcelain, shocking to behold.
"I need to go to the infirmary."
The girls fell silent for a moment.
They knew that this young lady was seriously ill; they could see the sickly aura emanating from her beautiful face when they first met her, but they did not expect her illness to be so severe.
"Ah Ci, does it hurt when you get acupuncture?" the girls asked cautiously.
Pei Ci was pretty used to it; getting pricked was like eating or drinking to her. But she said, "It doesn't hurt."
"Then how will you eat?"
"The infirmary will arrange it for me."
"Hmm..." The girls bit their lips. "Then, then we'll go with you."
Pei Ci did not refuse.
Because the School of Arts is quite a distance from the infirmary, although the distance is not far, the midday sun is scorching, so we still found a school bus.
On the way to the infirmary, the young ladies spoke even more quietly, and when they could tell that Pei Ci was not energetic, they chose to remain silent in order to take care of her.
He showed none of his usual arrogance.
Pei Ci would reply to Lu Ran's messages during her free time.
In just two class periods, Lu Ran sent over 99 messages. He didn't stop sending messages for almost a single minute after class.
Pei Ci glanced at it and found that most of the messages were meaningless chatter, with a few asking why she didn't answer the phone. The last message said he was waiting for her in the infirmary.
Pei Ci replied with an "Mm".
Then I thought about the invitation letter Jinglin gave to Lin Qingyu.
This event occurred in the original storyline, but it happened in the later part of the novel, and it was a minor climax in the development of the relationship.
In the story, the female lead is invited to a party by Jinglin, but she refuses. Jinglin then threatens her by threatening her work and the safety of her friends, forcing her to attend.
The female protagonist had no choice but to participate.
At the party, the special admission students, represented by the female lead, and Jing Lin, represented by the nobles, played a game.
Hide and seek.
The specially admitted students are like mice; they have five minutes to find a place to hide. Jing Lin and his group are like cats; they have five minutes to catch them.
After the female lead won, Jing Lin promised not to cause her or the other specially admitted students any more trouble.
After the nobles won, these specially admitted students would be at the beck and call of the nobles.
In the original storyline, Lu Ran had already fallen for her, after learning that Jing Lin was causing trouble for the female lead.
Lu Ran heroically rescued the damsel in distress.
This is one of the few moments in the novel where the female protagonist is clearly moved.
Of course, this is the original storyline. This scene also appears after the collapse, but there's no hero-saves-the-damsel plot. The nobles win the competition, and Ye Qingyu's group is severely humiliated and trampled upon. Ye Qingyu, who failed to lead the special recruits to victory, becomes the target of everyone's criticism, which is the final straw that breaks her back.
Although she didn't know why the later plot suddenly jumped back to the earlier part of the story, Pei Ci felt that this was a good opportunity to complete the mission.
She wanted Lu Ran to be her hero and save her.
The group arrived at the infirmary quickly.
Thinking of Lu Ran waiting for her in the infirmary, Pei Ci only had someone escort her to the entrance of the infirmary.
After the ladies left, Pei Ci entered the infirmary.
The infirmary at Anta Academy was already large and well-equipped, after all, it was a place for treating the young masters and ladies. And after Pei Ci arrived, the infirmary's equipment became even more advanced.
Except for the inability to perform major surgeries, it has already reached the level of a first-class hospital.
After entering, Pei Ci went to the room that had been specially prepared for her.
However, as soon as the door opened, Pei Ci's vision went black.
Then I was enveloped in a broad, warm embrace.
Pei Ci was all too familiar with this embrace; who else could it be but Lu Ran?
Since that day when his thoughts were revealed, Lu Ran has lost his former aloofness and restraint.
I want to get close to Pei Ci whenever I have the chance.
Pei Ci was completely unaware of this process.
She was a very quiet person by nature. Due to her long-term illness, she often had to lie in bed and be manipulated by doctors, answering some slightly private questions.
Therefore, Pei Ci was not sensitive.
But this is only psychological insensitivity; her body always produces subtle reactions when touched.
For example, her skin would turn red when your fingers touched it, her breathing would become slightly rapid when you got close to her, and when she was exposed to the heat, the corners of her eyes would bloom like peach blossoms, and her eyelashes would tremble weakly like butterflies caught in a spider web.
Unfortunately, the body's owner didn't care about these reactions.
From tentatively stroking her hair, to intertwining their fingers, and then to an increasingly intimate distance...
It wasn't until one hazy, dreamy afternoon, when Pei Ci, who was sitting in a chair reading, was suddenly carried away by two strong arms, chair and all, that she vaguely realized something was wrong.
"What are you... doing?" Pei Ci gripped the edge of the chair with her fingers, her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly.
After doing all this, Lu Ran's ears turned red but he didn't even pant. The proud young master lowered his sleeves, concealing the parts he was deliberately showing off, and naturally pointed to the sky.
"The lighting is good here."
The lighting here is really good.
The doctor did say I should get plenty of sunshine.
but……
“This is the work of the servants,” Pei Ci said, sensing that something was amiss.
Where did Anderson go?
It's been a long time.
“Isn’t this just right?” Lu Ran explained casually. He also pulled up a chair, which was different from Pei Ci’s soft chair. It was slightly lower, and Lu Ran was clearly a head shorter than Pei Ci when he sat on it.
While Pei Ci was reading, he also picked up an obscure legal code and began to study it, but his eyes kept wandering to Pei Ci.
It looked like a large black dog lying prostrate beside the treasure.
Pei Ci felt something was off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Sick people shouldn't be thinking for long periods. Pei Ci could only focus her attention on her books.
She was so focused on watching that she didn't notice Lu Ran's body getting closer and closer.
When they finished reading the book, Lu Ran placed his large hand on Pei Ci's knee, completely enveloping it.
Pei Ci swayed her leg uncomfortably, and the hand took advantage of the situation to slide down from her knee to her calf, all the way down until it covered her ankle.
A hot thumb pressed against her ankle, gently massaging it.
"Why is it so cold?"
Pei Ci frowned, her eyelashes trembling unconsciously, her voice still cold, "Let go."
"Okay, A-Ci."
Lu Ran said this, but didn't immediately relax. Instead, he pretended to look at the sun and said nonsensically, "The sun has set."
Pei Ci pursed her lips, a sense of unease rising within her.
"Do you want to hit me?" Lu Ran suddenly asked.
"No." Pei Ci controlled her emotions.
“So you want to.” Lu Ran stood up from the stool, his broad body blocking the sunlight, his dark eyes fixed on Pei Ci. “You can hit me if you want, it will make me feel good.”
“You…” Pei Ci’s light-colored eyes were filled with shock.
Lu Ran did what he had always wanted to do: he gently touched Pei Ci's nose. He wrapped one arm around Pei Ci's legs from below, and the other around her back; the strong physique he had cultivated over the years finally came in handy. He lifted Pei Ci up completely, and whispered in her ear in a low, husky voice:
"I'll carry you back to the bedroom."
