Chapter 30 An Unexpected Surprise

Chapter 30 An Unexpected Surprise

Jinglin's words brought Lu Ran back to his senses. Lu Ran didn't reply to Jinglin. He let go of the glass, pressed his fingers down on the brim of his hat, and hid his gloomy and sharp eyes.

This was the first time Lu Ran had ever followed someone.

But this wasn't the first time he'd had such thoughts.

From the moment he first met Pei Ci, his life was finally pieced together into a complete circle. Because he didn't want to experience the pain of separation again, he wanted to squeeze into Pei Ci's life every moment.

However, he managed to suppress it in the end, only claiming that he was finding someone to protect her.

But after what happened last night, Lu Ran realized the harm he had caused and finally made the decision he had been hesitant to make.

Therefore, he might be able to see A-Ci in the next few days.

Since Aci didn't want to see him, he had no choice but to resort to this method.

Feeling frustrated, like a wife catching her husband cheating.

The reason he chose to be with Jinglin was because he would need Jinglin's help later on.

"Are you really planning to do this?" Jing Lin asked lazily while his assistant went to get the tickets.

Lu Ran didn't say anything, he just leaned back in his chair.

Jing Lin withdrew his gaze. The light did not reach his face, so he lowered his eyes, revealing only his outline and obscuring his expression. Only two words were uttered from his lips.

"very nice."

Because they were born in Rome, they can make any decision without considering the consequences.

While the two were talking, they finally got their tickets, and Lu Ran and Jing Lin got off the bus one after the other.

The two were dressed casually, wearing black baseball caps and black graffiti hoodies. However, their affluent upbringing, superior height, and perfect proportions still made them stand out in the crowd. Shortly after they came out, they were surrounded by three or four girls asking for their contact information, along with several classmates.

Jing Lin refused with a smile, but irritation was already creeping into his brow. Annoyed, Lu Ran wasn't about to tolerate it and kicked a nearby public bench to pieces.

Amidst the loud noise, the girls covered their mouths in terror.

On the other side, sunlight slowly streamed onto the floor.

"Hello, miss, is this something you dropped?" Pei Ci was stopped by a male voice as she was walking down the street.

Pei Ci turned her head and saw a clean-cut young man wearing a white t-shirt. He had soft features and beautiful almond-shaped eyes. In his hand, he held a begonia flower pendant with small diamonds.

A few minutes earlier, Pei Ci did stop at the craft stall, mainly because Pei Ze kept asking her if she had anything she liked, and she casually picked out a pendant.

The pendant is still hanging on my phone.

Pei Ci shook her head. "This isn't mine."

"Oh, I see." The boy blinked, his voice softening. "Then maybe I remembered it wrong."

Pei Ci was about to leave when the boy blocked her way.

“But since we’ve met, it’s fate. This is for you, Miss.” The boy held out his hand, his eyes seemingly sparkling in the light filtered through the insulating layer. “What’s your name, Miss?”

Pei Ci was taken aback, suddenly realizing something was amiss; this didn't seem to be a simple search for the owner. Just as she was about to speak, Pei Ze, who had returned from shopping, suddenly stood in front of Pei Ci and said, "My sister has a boyfriend."

He sized the boy up and down; he had slicked-back hair, a frail appearance, and his expression turned cold. "You're not good enough for him."

The boy was taken aback, not expecting the other person to be so direct, and immediately felt a little embarrassed. "You misunderstood. I didn't come here to chat her up. I just need to talk to her about something, and at most, I just want to make friends. I really don't mean anything else."

Pei Ze could easily see through this man's intentions; he understood perfectly well what he was thinking – he desperately wanted to win over the man's sister today. Come to think of it, this was something he had overlooked; he had completely forgotten about the woman's allure. From the moment they entered the amusement park, many eyes had been fixed on her, some even cautiously taking out their phone cameras…

Pei Ze quickly went to a store to buy a hat and a mask.

I hadn't walked for more than a few minutes when people started trying to chat me up; they kept coming one after another.

The man tried to deny it, but Pei Ze grabbed Zhou Jiyue.

"See this guy? He's my sister's suitor. Can you even compare? Where did you get the nerve to come up to him? Do you really think beautiful women don't pick and choose?"

Zhou Jiyue's appearance was quite intimidating; he was tall and had a cold, aloof demeanor, making him stand out in a crowd. The so-called aloof and ascetic image seemed tailor-made for him. His presence next to Pei Ci effectively blocked the view of many self-aware individuals.

Now that he's been called out, the boy immediately lost face.

After everyone left, Pei Ze handed the hat and mask he had bought to Pei Ci.

Zhou Jiyue, standing to the side, frowned, still feeling uncomfortable about Pei Ze's words. "I am not Pei Ci's suitor."

"I know, I know." After spending the afternoon together, Pei Ze realized Zhou Jiyue's resistance to this kind of thing. "It's just borrowing a name."

After saying that, Pei Ze got even angrier, "You still have the nerve to throw a tantrum now?"

“Don’t you care if someone tries to chat up my sister?”

"What's the point of being so tall?"

Zhou Jiyue frowned even more deeply. "Was he just hitting on someone?"

Pei Ze rolled his eyes, not wanting to answer Zhou Jiyue's question.

He ignored Zhou Jiyue and went to see his sister instead.

Actually, her clothes were similar to what she usually wears when going out, but her everyday sophistication combined with her beautiful face made her stand out in this chaotic place.

Even if he wears the veil and mask he bought now, it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Okay, let's leave it at that for now.

Pei Ze had no choice but to put the matter aside and asked Pei Ci, "Where do you want to go now? This amusement park is quite large, and there are many attractions inside."

At this point, Pei Ze paused, pursed his lips, and his usual carefree demeanor vanished. "You can play anything else you want, but I'd rather die than go on the carousel!"

Pei Ci was taken aback and subconsciously asked, "Why?"

Pei Ze kicked a pebble, turned his head away, and said casually, "I was kidnapped on a carousel back then, and it's a lifelong psychological trauma for me!"

This is also why the driver didn't get out of the car immediately when he stopped at the entrance of the amusement park.

He was too young then; he only remembers the melodious music and the hand that covered his mouth.

There was a crescent-shaped birthmark on that hand.

However, it's been twelve years, and Pei Ze doesn't want to dwell on the sadness of the past. People always have to look forward.

"Only this one thing, you have to do as I say! Do you hear me?!" Pei Ze said very loudly.

Pei Ci hadn't expected this. Looking at the boy who bore no resemblance to her except for his facial features, she had the first real feeling that this was her younger brother.

As the older sister, shouldn't I offer some comfort at this time?

The girl hesitated for a moment, searching her mind for things Pei Chi would do to comfort her. After a few seconds of hesitation, she raised her hand and touched his frizzy hair with her fingers. "If you don't like it, we'll buy it."

"Why did you buy it?" Pei Ze asked, looking displeased.

"You can do whatever you want with it."

Pei Ze: "..."

"Oh..." Pei Ze's head was spinning, as if he had been steeped in a cup of overly concentrated sugar water. When he came to his senses, Pei Ze's eyes widened, and he touched the messy hair on his head, his ears turning red.

Oh my god.

He was the one who brought her out to relax, and he actually fell for her sweet talk!

His sister is terrifying!!

Pei Ze was so embarrassed that he kept backing away.

"Let's go somewhere else," Zhou Jiyue suggested, having witnessed everything.

His eyes were fixed on Pei Ci's hand.

Just seconds ago, this hand landed on a frizzy head.

What does it feel like?

As they moved to a different location, the two boys who had been following them finally emerged from the shadows.

After Lu Ran's kick, many onlookers realized that while this handsome guy was undeniably good-looking, he had a terrible temper. As a result, fewer people tried to strike up a conversation with him.

However, just in case, they wore masks as well.

With the help of their assistant, they quickly located the person.

Lu Ran had excellent eyesight; he noticed all the interactions between the three of them.

He could only tell himself that one was Aci's younger brother and the other was Aci's doctor, so it wasn't a big deal.

It's nothing, really.

The next instant, he grabbed the collar of the boy who had been rejected and dragged him into the shadows. The boy was still struggling, so Lu Ran kicked him to the ground.

The boy clutched his stomach, screaming in pain.

Jing Lin squatted down and took out his student ID from his pocket.

"Public university?"

"Isn't this a place that only produces migrant workers?"

"Looking at it isn't enough either." Jing Lin threw the student ID at the boy's face, his expression genuinely puzzled. "How can a toad like you try to eat swan meat?"

At this point, Jinglin was still smiling, until she took out the boy's phone and saw his lock screen.

The lock screen wallpaper features a different girl.

The smile on Jing Lin's face vanished completely.

He simply couldn't understand how a fool like him, who had nothing to offer in terms of looks, family background, intelligence, or physical fitness, could have the nerve to approach a goddess.

Wouldn't they feel genuinely ashamed of themselves when they got close to the goddess?

As for him, the Jing family, which was on the verge of collapse, and his less-than-stellar reputation, were enough to make him unable to hold his head high for the rest of his life.

A few minutes later.

Lu Ran and Jing Lin came out of the alley. A few minutes after they left, several assistants in suits took the man, whose head was covered in blood, to the hospital.

Lu Ran wouldn't focus too much energy on others; he'd give them a beating and a warning, and then stop.

But Jinglin will not allow him to appear in any corner of Anta.

"Wasn't your reaction a bit too extreme?" Lu Ran asked Jing Lin calmly as he watched the boy being carried out.

Jinglin paused for a moment, then laughed and said, "Brother, nobody wants to see a pearl hidden in mud."

“That’s true.” Lu Ran lowered his eyelids, his noble face full of arrogance. “Jinglin, remember what you said.”

Jing Lin's expression changed.

He knew Lu Ran had figured it out. Perhaps it was the night Pei Ci returned to the country, when he took the initiative to apologize on her behalf. Or perhaps it was at that party, when he saved Ye Qingyu on her behalf.

Or perhaps it happened last night.

"Lu Ran, what happened to Pei Ci?"

The moment Lu Ran emerged from the Pei family with a dark expression, he couldn't help but grab his sleeve.

He was overwhelmed with guilt at that time.

He never expected things to turn out this way.

He just wanted to get closer to her.

He didn't intend for her to fall into a coma.

if you can.

No, he wouldn't make that assumption. Because he carried the blood of the Jing family, he had always been an extremely inferior person. He couldn't control his thoughts, and it was difficult for him to use reason to suppress his desires.

As for Lu Ran, he was, after all, the heir cultivated by the Lu family. For more than a decade, he had focused his attention on Pei Ci, and he had not missed any of the shrewdness that an heir should have.

That night, his eyes were especially dark.

Jinglin even thought he was doomed.

Fortunately, Lu Ran made that decision.

He didn't have time to deal with him; on the contrary, he needed him.

"Of course." At this moment, Jing Lin raised his gentle and handsome face again.

Under Lu Ran's ambiguous gaze, Jing Lin said, "Brother, do you want to get intimate with your sister-in-law?"

On the other side.

Pei Ci and her two companions arrived at a row of game stalls, where games included ring toss, balloon shooting, and word puzzles.

"Sis, do you want to play?" Pei Ze leaned closer to Pei Ci.

Pei Ci wasn't interested, but before she could say anything, Pei Ze pulled her to the stall. The stall sold ring toss, and Pei Ze bought dozens of them with a wave of his hand. After receiving them, he presented all the rings to Pei Ci, saying, "Your Majesty, please."

With a crowd watching, Pei Ci felt embarrassed to refuse. So she took one and tossed it out.

This one didn't get put on.

"It's alright, it's alright, continue," Pei Ze urged.

Pei Ci tried again, and this time she won a second prize.

A blue doll about the size of a palm.

Pei Ci had never been interested in such small things, but seeing Zhou Jiyue looking at her, she handed the doll to him.

"For me?" Zhou Jiyue's usually indifferent face showed a hint of surprise.

Pei Ci nodded.

“I don’t need this kind of thing,” Zhou Jiyue refused.

Pei Ci handing over the doll was a matter of course.

Zhou Jiyue's attitude immediately reminded her of the task she couldn't complete.

Pei Ci admitted that since she came into this world, because she was a child of the Pei family, everything she did went incredibly smoothly, and there were very few things that did not go her way.

Given Zhou Jiyue's personality, she clearly wouldn't accept this kind of gift.

But what if she insists on doing it?

It's like two people who are irreconcilable enemies; what if she insists on making up?

She suddenly became angry and shoved him into Zhou Jiyue's arms.

Feeling the weight in her arms, Zhou Jiyue looked down at the doll in her arms.

Pale blue, with two black bean-sized eyes, its species is unidentifiable, and it looks exceptionally foolish.

This kind of thing should be destroyed as soon as it is produced.

He took the doll out of his pocket, "I don't—"

Pei Ci looked up at him.

Her beautiful face appeared exceptionally fair in the sunlight. Her delicate brows were slightly furrowed, and her eyes held a hint of anger.

Zhou Jiyue realized that everyone was watching them.

Everyone's gaze was filled with envy and blessings for him.

Is this what that woman meant by an unexpected surprise?

"Knock knock, knock knock, knock knock."

Zhou Jiyue frowned. He really didn't understand why his heart was beating so fast at this moment.

Am I sick?

Zhou Jiyue opened her lips.

He dared not accept the doll, as if accepting it would lead his life into complete chaos and disorder.
