Chapter 48 Breakup
"I am Ye Qingyu's boyfriend."
He deliberately added a comment at the end, seemingly as a rejection, telling Pei Ci that what she was doing was wrong and hoping she would stop. But her relaxed posture, her misty eyes, and her disordered breathing made his actions seem like a reluctant acceptance.
Pei Ci didn't answer the question. She straddled Pei Ci's lap, her fingers gripping the area where her neck and shoulders met. Her expression was expressionless as she slightly raised her eyelids and politely asked, "Is it alright?"
"Um……?"
“I’m just playing with you,” Pei Ci said, opening her mouth.
However, when she uttered the word "playing with"—a word clearly carrying erotic connotations—it was utterly indifferent. It was precisely because of her excessive frankness, her overly trivial view of the matter, that she displayed such extreme tension.
At this moment, her face drew closer and closer, resting against his chest. Her fingernails tapped against his collarbone, feeling the erratic heartbeat of the body beneath her. She asked again, very earnestly:
Can I play with you/tease you?
Jinglin: "..."
Jinglin didn't know what to do with his hands. Damn it, he had hundreds of flirting plans in his head, but when it came to actually using them, he had absolutely no idea how to execute them. He knew his own limitations; just being close to him was driving him crazy. Playing with him was just too exciting…
He simply cannot maintain the same ease and confidence.
Should we admit defeat now?
I'll be looked down upon.
I was accused of pretending to be innocent.
Although it felt pretty good, it essentially meant he was being underestimated. Jing Lin's ears, hidden in his hair, burned. In any case, he couldn't show any weakness. So he stretched out even more, lying completely on the sofa, his faded hair spreading out.
The only thing that betrayed his thoughts was his bobbing Adam's apple.
"Sure." Jing Lin avoided looking at her, staring at the ceiling. "Does Miss know how?"
Do you want me to teach you?
He adopted the air of someone who had been there before.
teach?
What's there to teach?
Pei Ci continued to grip his collarbone, shifting her body upwards. Her face drew closer, and she breathed on his chin, her warm breath brushing against his face. His eyelashes fluttered, and his amber eyes transformed into a shimmering lake, reflecting the sunlight. He was clearly trembling, yet feigning composure.
Something's strange.
But now is not the time to discuss these things. Pei Ci said calmly, "Let's break up."
Jing Lin's gaze froze. For a moment, he even thought he was still dreaming, in a dream where he and Pei Ci were already boyfriend and girlfriend, but because he was dull and not interesting enough, his wife asked him to break up with her.
Is this fake?
Just as he was thinking this, Pei Ci said, "I want you to break up with Ye Qingyu."
These words immediately brought Jing Lin back to reality. Knowing it was true, he felt relieved. He then feigned distress, frowning as he said:
"Ye Qingyu is my girlfriend after all. We've only just gotten together, how can we break up now?"
He just wanted to push and pull, but Pei Ci received a different message from his words.
"So you like Ye Qingyu too?"
"You like two people at the same time?"
This certainly fits the stereotype of Jinglin.
Jinglin: !!!
He abruptly stood up from the sofa, placing his hand on Pei Ci's shoulder. "I don't like her!"
He didn't want to be looked down upon, but how could Pei Ci put himself on the same level as Ye Qingyu? Just thinking about it made him feel uncomfortable.
As he frowned in thought, Pei Ci watched him. It had to be said, Jing Lin was full of contradictions, and undeniably, some aspects of him did pique her curiosity. However, now was not the time for curiosity; the mission was paramount.
“Jinglin,” Pei Ci said, looking directly into Jinglin’s eyes, “you must break up with Ye Qingyu.”
Jing Lin froze. Even though he knew Pei Ci cared deeply for Ye Qingyu, and even though he had received this incredible stroke of luck because of Ye Qingyu, he still found it difficult to control his jealousy.
Why is Ye Qingyu so special?
Although he was completely baffled, Jinglin did not choose to ask at this moment.
He originally only wanted to be a bystander, a part of Lu Ran. But after truly getting to know Pei Ci, that kiss, and their still intimate actions, he could no longer bear to go back to his original position.
He is changing.
And the direction he wanted to change...
“Alright, Miss.” Jing Lin smiled at Pei Ci. “What do you want me to do?”
Should I make a call?
If I am destined not to be the ideal husband.
He didn't mind being her dog at her feet, or a shameful third party.
*
With Jinglin's cooperation, things became much simpler.
However, Pei Ci did not adopt Jing Lin's suggestion to make the phone call. In most of the books she had read, the female protagonist would realize sooner or later that the male protagonist was being coerced.
She felt that her own plan was more suitable.
"No need." Pei Ci got up from Jing Lin, her previous intimacy completely gone, and she returned to her usual indifferent demeanor.
At that moment, she pointed to the sofa next to Jinglin and began to explain her plan: "You stand here and call your friend, saying bad things about Ye Qingyu and your intention to break up with her."
Jinglin's mind worked quickly. "Are there security cameras here?"
Pei Ci gave a faint "Mmm," and asked, "Are you sure you can?"
This was a question she habitually asked Lu Ran when she asked him to do something.
Jinglin: "..."
His expression stiffened for a moment, but he quickly recovered: "What bad things are you going to say?"
Pei Ci was taken aback; she genuinely didn't know. But upon reflection, she realized it was probably because of Ye Qingyu's background, and that they looked down on people like Ye Qingyu. Just then, Pei Ci was suddenly startled by a hand waving in front of her. She snapped back to reality and saw Jing Lin standing in front of her.
Her face was wet, strands of hair framing her forehead, and her amber eyes were bright and captivating.
“Young Miss, I’m different from Lu Ran,” Jing Lin said with a smile. “You should know that I’m smarter than him.”
*
It's no wonder he studied directing; Jinglin's abilities are truly outstanding. His emotions are spot-on, and his performance is incredibly lifelike. Moreover, he adds appropriate embellishments to Pei Ci's points. If Pei Ci hadn't already known it was acting, she would have thought it was real on her first viewing.
"It's a shame you're not an actress," Pei Ci said as she had the housekeeper export the video.
Jing Lin was taken aback, then teased, "Then I can develop a side business."
“But I need a sugar daddy.” His eyes were fixed on Pei Ci.
Since you've already received praise, can you expect some other rewards?
However, Pei Ci's response was ruthless: "I will not pay a single penny."
Jinglin: "..."
Well then, if there's no money involved, isn't that true love?
Looking at it this way, he still came out ahead.
Consider it a reward.
Kissing... it's not that easy to get. He sat on the sofa, head down.
Just then, his head was suddenly lifted up. A warm palm touched his chin, a faint fragrance filled his nostrils, the light before his eyes gradually dimmed, and then a wet, warm kiss landed on his brow.
Jinglin: "!!!"
By the time he came to his senses, Pei Ci had already let go of him and separated from him.
Jing Lin pursed his lips. This was the second kiss he had received today, but both the first and second times, he had been in a daze.
“Okay…” Jing Lin reached out to touch Pei Ci’s fingers, “Can we do it again?”
After everything that has happened, Pei Ci clearly understands the importance of clear rewards and punishments. Jing Lin is an important male supporting character in the novel; controlling him will only make subsequent missions much easier.
"Sure," Pei Ci replied lazily, her lips moving closer to Jing Lin's, but she stopped just a centimeter away.
Then Jinglin heard Pei Ci say, "...if you behave well from now on."
*
The housekeeper transferred the video recording quickly, and it was soon on Pei Ci's phone. To avoid any unforeseen complications, Pei Ci decided to deal with the matter today.
She called Ye Qingyu.
What's puzzling is that Ye Qingyu's phone is completely unreachable. Pei Ci had to ask Jing Lin to call, but the result was the same.
Do we have to wait until tomorrow?
Just then, Jing Lin took the initiative to say, "I know where Ye Qingyu is."
In principle, Anta School provides dormitories for students, but basically, apart from specially admitted students, no aristocrats live in dormitories that cannot be compared with mansions and villas.
Ye Qingyu was an exception; she was the only special admission student who chose to commute to school.
Pei Ci had lived an extra lifetime, and even though she was now born into nobility, she knew about the exorbitant prices in Anta. Given Ye Qingyu's circumstances, Pei Ci couldn't imagine what kind of environment she would live in.
Is it similar to the impoverished urban center areas of my past life?
However, she was still surprised when Jinglin took her to their destination.
"Ye Qingyu... lives here?" Pei Ci looked at the neat and clean residential area in front of her, somewhat dumbfounded.
This neighborhood looks simple and unpretentious, but in the Anta Second Line, while the lighting and transportation infrastructure isn't particularly good, it's at least not bad.
“Yes,” Jing Lin noticed Pei Ci’s expression, “it is a bit too small.”
"That's how Ye Qingyu's family background is."
Pei Ci disagreed. Jing Lin spent money extravagantly and had long lost his concept of money. He simply thought this was the level that specially admitted students should have.
However, on the other hand... this is a world extended from the novel, which may be different from the reality she felt in her previous life.
Pei Ci had no choice but to suppress her doubts. She told Jing Lin to stay where he was and went into the residential area herself. There weren't many people living in this area, and the streets were mostly deserted. However, Pei Ci observed something interesting: many of the residents were from Kenlin.
After navigating a winding path, Pei Ci finally arrived at Ye Qingyu's floor. The building had a password at the entrance and could also call the resident. Pei Ci immediately dialed Ye Qingyu's number.
This time the call connected very quickly.
There was no sound.
"Ye Qingyu, it's me," Pei Ci said proactively. "I am Pei Ci."
There was another silence on the other end. After about two or three minutes, Ye Qingyu's hoarse voice rang out, "Why are you here?"
"What's the password?" Pei Ci asked.
"Click—" The phone hung up.
Soon, the door opened.
It was Ye Qingyu who opened the door.
Unlike Ye Qingyu who wears a uniform at school, Ye Qingyu dresses very casually at home, wearing a loose white cotton t-shirt and knee-length shorts, with her hair clipped back with a large clip, revealing a face that is both heroic and gentle.
Her reddish-brown eyes stared intently at Pei Ci, while the veins on her hands gripping the doorframe throbbed.
Perhaps it was because Ye Qingyu wasn't wearing a uniform, but Pei Ci felt an unprecedented sense of oppression emanating from Ye Qingyu.
