Chapter 99: Ideas

It was her father-in-law's indifference, her mother-in-law's harshness, and her two children's usual disdain for her.

An Yan thought about these scenes, and tears welled up in her eyes again. She really didn't understand what she had to do to please these people.

Thinking of this, An Yan expressed her doubts: "I don't know why my family members dislike me so much. I have tried my best to be filial to my parents-in-law and work hard to earn more work points, but why do they still treat me like this? I really don't know how to win their favor."

When Lin Xuanjiao heard An Yan's words, her eyebrows raised and her aura rose: "Why do you want to please those people?"

An Yan looked at the furious Lin Xuanjiao, not understanding where she had said the wrong thing. "Because they are my parents-in-law!"

"Aren't you good enough to them?"

An Yan thought about what she did every day and felt a little aggrieved. "I've been good to them! I work hard in the fields and get full work points every day. Then I go home and wash their clothes and cook for them. My mother-in-law just has to stay at home and take care of the children."

"That's all. I think you've spoiled them too much. What's wrong with your parents-in-law? They're not your ancestors. Why treat them like Buddhas?"

An Yan was still a little timid: "But they are my parents-in-law after all! If I am not filial to them, I will be criticized by others, and in serious cases, I will even be criticized by the director of women's affairs."

Lin Xuanjiao felt helpless when she saw An Yan's appearance. After all, this place was different from her previous world, and she didn't expect to enlighten An Yan right away.

So he slowly gave her some advice: "What is your image in front of outsiders?"

An Yan thought about the compliments from the villagers and said hesitantly, "She is filial to her parents-in-law, a rare good woman."

In fact, this good woman doesn't want to do it at all. It's so tiring.

Lin Xuanjiao nodded. She could already imagine An Yan's image in the village without An Yan saying it. "What about your parents-in-law?"

An Yan thought about her mother-in-law's unreasonable quarrels with the villagers, and how they often accused her father-in-law of not being able to control his wife. She wondered if it was a bit inappropriate for her to speak ill of her in-laws behind their backs. However, thinking about how good Lin Xuanjiao had been to her, she answered truthfully, "Not really."

Lin Xuanjiao nodded, understanding, and continued to advise her, "Then, when the villagers are not around, don't do so much at home. If your mother-in-law gets irritated and tries to hit you, you can fight back."

Hearing the call back, An Yan's eyes widened and she exclaimed, "Call back?"

Lin Xuanjiao nodded, "That's right! Hit her back. You don't owe her anything, so why should you let her beat you up? If you beat someone like that, they'll be quiet and stop causing trouble."

An Yan said hesitantly, "What if I beat her and she tells the villagers?"

When Lin Xuanjiao heard An Yan's words, she knew that she was still thinking about it, otherwise she wouldn't ask like that. It was good that she was thinking about it, which was better than standing there like a wooden stake and being bullied.

"You can just hit her private parts. When she complains to the villagers, she won't have any evidence. Then you can cry and complain. Do you think the villagers will believe you or your mother-in-law?"

When An Yan heard this, it was as if she had opened the door to a new world. Thinking of that scene, her heart beat uncontrollably. However, thinking of the ferocity with which her mother-in-law usually beat and scolded her, An Yan hesitated again: "But can I beat her? My mother-in-law is very fierce."

Lin Xuanjiao glanced at An Yan with a look of disappointment. "You are so much younger than her. Besides, you work every day. How can you be stronger than an old woman who does nothing all day? I think you are just used to being beaten by her and have no intention of resisting."

An Yan was so scared that she didn't dare to look up. She felt that what Lin Xuanjiao said made sense. She had been beaten so badly that she didn't have the courage to resist.

Lin Xuanjiao looked at An Yan like this and patted her shoulder gently: "In short, be good to yourself. Nothing is more important than your health."

An Yan nodded with tears in her eyes. She thought she had cried enough, but after hearing what Lin Xuanjiao said, her tears were about to flow again.

An Yan quickly wiped away her tears. She had cried enough in front of this little girl today, and she had to restrain herself. After wiping away her tears, An Yan remembered that she didn't know the little girl's name until now.

Thinking of this, An Yan asked directly: "Look at my brain. You comforted me for so long and gave me some tricks, but I don't even know your name. What's your name?"

Lin Xuanjiao thought back to her conversation with An Yan. It seemed that she had not told her her name. "My name is Lin Xuanjiao. I'm eighteen years old. I'm an educated youth who went to the countryside."

"Lin...Xuan...Jiao!"

An Yan slowly muttered these three words, memorizing the name in her heart. She looked up and smiled at Lin Xuanjiao: "It's a good name! Your parents must love you very much!"

Lin Xuanjiao nodded without hesitation and said without hesitation: "Not only do my parents love me, but my whole family loves me too."

An Yan looked at Lin Xuanjiao, who had no trace of gloom on her face, and said with a smile, "I can see that. You have a temperament that shows you are not lacking in family love."

"Really?" Lin Xuanjiao looked at herself and didn't see anything. She looked at An Yan with a puzzled look on her face: "How did you see that? I can't even see it myself."

An Yan looked at the unusually confused Lin Xuanjiao and smiled even wider: "Look at your temperament! Your temperament is different. If you weren't spoiled growing up, your temperament wouldn't be like this."

Lin Xuanjiao still didn't understand how An Yan saw that, so she simply stopped dwelling on it. "Can you take my candy now?"

Lin Xuanjiao shook the two remaining candies in her hand. This time, An Yan took the two candies without hesitation. She was afraid that Lin Xuanjiao would see that she didn't want to take the candies and force them into her mouth again.

Seeing An Yan accept the candy, Lin Xuanjiao reminded her again: "Let me make it clear first, you can't give the candy I give you to your son! The candy I give you is for you."

An Yan put the candy in her trouser pocket. She was stunned for a moment when she heard Lin Xuanjiao's words, then she said with a smile, "Of course I won't give it to those two brats. They give me a bad face all day long, do they really think I'm willing to serve them?"

Lin Xuanjiao nodded in relief and reminded An Yan again how to avoid being bullied.
