Chapter 11
Yu Aiai was furious: "What do you mean?"
Chen He said: "I have signed a contract with the platform for this comic. The authority to modify the published parts is in the hands of the editor. I have no right to modify it."
"Then talk to her!" Yu Aiai looked angry but she seemed to be acting like a spoiled child.
"Even if I tell her, she won't agree. There are too many comic book readers nowadays, and changes will attract attention, and there's a greater chance that your real-life information will be exposed."
Chen He lowered her voice, "Then everyone will find out that you really did those things. That won't be good for your beautiful and kind image. How will you find a new boyfriend?"
Yu Aiai's expression changed: "What should I do then?"
Chen He leaned back, confident: "Don't worry. In my work, I am God. I can't change the past, but I can change the future."
Yu Aiai looked at her suspiciously: "What do you mean?"
"The manga's plot is currently stuck at the point where Qiu Yue is dead. Readers are most concerned about her killer. As long as the focus is on the suspect, who will even remember Yu Er?"
Yu Aiai's eyes lit up: "Then why don't you focus on drawing how Feng Xumei is the murderer!"
"I just said that Feng Xumei's suspicion has been greatly reduced. She is definitely not the murderer. The explosive point of this comic is that it is connected to reality. When the case is announced, it will be a joke. Teacher Feng's family will also sue me for defamation."
"Then...what should we do then?"
Chen He said mysteriously, "If I can guess the real murderer, the comic will become even more popular." She winked at Yu Aiai and said, "I'll give you a share of the profits then."
Yu Aiai was overjoyed: "Is there a share for me?"
"Of course. It's my fault for drawing you in without consulting you. Consider it your appearance fee."
"How much can I get?"
"That depends on how popular it is. The more accurate your bet, the higher your returns."
Yu Aiai looked hesitant and didn't say anything for a long time.
Chen He counted on his fingers, as if doing mental arithmetic for a while, and then pointed out a number: "At least this number."
Yu Aiai felt her mouth dry and couldn't help licking the corner of her lips, revealing greed. Suddenly she said, "Don't say it was me who said that. We can't let the police find me."
Chen He's heart moved, and his tone was calm: "Of course. Besides, we are talking about the plot of the comics, what are you afraid of?"
"You have a point." Yu Aiai said to herself as if to comfort herself, opened the screen of her phone, and pointed at a character in the comic book, "You can bet on him."
Chen He's eyes flashed: "Why?"
"Later that night, he entered the girls' dormitory area."
"Did you see it?"
"No, but I heard it."
"What did you hear?"
"There were heavy footsteps and grunting noises. Smokers with sore throats make those involuntary noises. There's more than one smoker in the base, but you know, he's the only one with this habit. And then there was a heavy thud. I think that might have been him knocking Prison Leader Feng to the ground."
Chen He remained calm, but his heart was beating wildly.
For five years, everything seemed to be sealed like an iron barrel, without a single crack.
She suppressed her hatred, pretended to be indifferent, and kept in touch with Yu Aiai. She knew that Yu Aiai must know something, and over time, she would eventually let it slip.
But nothing ever came out of it. Yu Aiai wasn't particularly bright, but she was able to hold her tongue so tightly. This was either due to some kind of pressure or some kind of inducement. Or perhaps both.
When a long period of time relieved the pressure and new inducements appeared, a crack was finally opened in the iron barrel.
Yu Aiai chose to conceal the truth five years ago, and even now, she would not tell the police about the "grunt" sound she heard. Even if she did, this specious evidence without any physical evidence would not stand up.
But Chen He is neither a police officer nor a judge. She has her own trial bench.
Chen He looked at the comic character that Yu Aiai pointed out.
Xu San. Prototype: Xu Candong.
