Chapter 28

Chapter 28

It was late at night when Xu Candong was released from the police station. His daughter, his cash cow, was gone, and the house was empty and messy.

He plopped down on the sofa and downed half a bottle of beer. He opened the video platform and logged into his account, only to discover his livestream had been blocked. Even worse, his earnings, which he hadn't yet withdrawn, were also frozen.

He was cursing as he filed his appeal. Before he finished, a phone call came in.

He quickly picked up the phone, a flattering smile on his face: "Hello..."

Before he could say anything, a cold and angry voice pierced through the receiver: "Idiot!"

The smile froze on Xu Candong's face.

The voice in the receiver said, "Are you talking nonsense in there?"

"No. Besides, I went in for my own family business, not for that."

"I know all about the shit you did, using your own children to scam people out of money. It's so stupid and despicable. You're really crazy because you're broke!"

Xu Candong's face immediately turned purple. "What can I do? I'm just trying to make a living! You're living a life of luxury, yet you refuse to help me!"

"Haven't I helped you enough? If I hadn't kept Feng Xumei's affairs a secret for you, you would have been shot long ago! And didn't I hire the lawyer for you this time?"

Xu Candong's tone softened. "The lawyer arrived quite quickly. I was out before the police could react. Thank you very much. But by the way, how did you know I was in there?"

The other party sneered: "You still have the nerve to ask. Xu Candong, you can't even open your mouth properly, you are really tired of living."

Xu Candong was filled with grievances: "Why didn't you take care of it? I didn't say anything!"

"If you didn't tell me, how would others know that you killed Feng Xumei?!"

Xu Candong was so frightened that he slid off the sofa to the floor. "Who? Who knows?"

The voice in the receiver was full of sarcasm: "Idiot, it seems you don't know yet."

"What do I know?"

"There's a comic online called 'Prophecy of the Other Shore'. Go search it yourself."

"What language is that on the other side?"

"Illiterate." The person on the other end cursed and hung up the phone.

Xu Candong, sweating profusely, searched frantically on his phone. Although he didn't know the word, he finally found the right place after some effort.

The cartoon image is different from the real person, but it captures the characteristics and charm, and he recognized "Xu San" as himself at a glance.

The comic strip depicting him using Xixi's livestream to defraud money had already frightened him. When the image of the vengeful spirit of "Teacher Feng" appeared, he was so frightened that he threw his phone away.

After a while, he mustered up the courage to pick it up. He saw that "Xu San" was burned into a charred corpse by the vengeful spirit, and the phone fell to the ground again.

The screen is facing upwards, and the author's name is marked at the end of the comic: Chen Hehe.

Xu Candong stared at the name, bewildered, "Who is this Chen Hehe? How does he know all this? It's really weird!"

This stupid thing, I haven’t even thought about the author being Chen He.

He scratched his greasy hair and said, "How could this happen? I clearly haven't told anyone about this!"

After a while, he picked up the phone, not daring to look at it any longer, quickly closed the comic page, and called the number back.

"The user you dialed is busy..."

It seemed that the other party didn't want to listen to his explanation.

"Impossible, this is impossible." Xu Candong muttered to himself while clutching his phone. "How could anyone know this? It's as if they saw it with their own eyes..." He thought of something, and fear appeared on his face. "Is there really a ghost?!"

"Knock, knock, knock." There was a sudden knock on the door.

Xu Candong was so scared that he screamed "Ah".

Dudududu.

The knocking continued. Xu Candong glanced at the clock on the wall. It was twelve o'clock midnight.

"Who is this late at night?!" he asked loudly in frustration.

The knocking stopped. Suspicion welled up in Xu Candong's mind. He stood up, slowly approached the door, and looked out through the peephole.

The corridor was pitch black and I couldn't see anything.

Just as he was about to leave, the knock on the door suddenly sounded again, turning on the voice-activated light in the corridor.

A face appeared within the cat's circular field of view. A khaki coat, short hair, and black-framed glasses. A familiar face.

Xu Candong screamed and fell backwards to the ground.

"Prisoner Feng, it's Prisoner Feng!" He said in horror, his soul fluttering as he lay on the ground.

He no longer had the courage to look through the peephole, and practically crawled to his bedroom, wrapping himself tightly in a quilt.

The knock on the door never came again, and he fell asleep without knowing when. When he woke up the next day, it was already bright daylight. Thinking back on what happened last night, the more he thought about it, the more incredible it seemed.

He came to the door and looked out through the peephole, but there was nothing outside.

"I must be seeing things. It must be that spooky cartoon that's causing my hallucinations! Once I find out who drew it, I'll kill them!"

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door opposite. Through the peephole, he saw a curly-haired woman walk out and down the stairs. It was Sister Qin.

"Bitch, you don't even come to support me now that I'm in trouble!" he muttered angrily.

My stomach growled. I'd been too scared to eat the night before, and I was starving. I couldn't wait to order takeout, so I headed downstairs, planning to grab a bowl of wontons at the entrance to the complex.

As he walked out of the unit door, something flew towards him and exploded on his face with a "bang", and a foul smell filled his nose.

It's a rotten egg.

A roar came into my ears.

"murderer!"

"A beast who exploits children to defraud money!"

He wiped the eggshell from his eyes and realized there were people gathered outside the apartment building. Many of them were holding phone holders and live-streaming their videos.

"Family members, look! This is the beast who fed our daughter medicine!"

"It is said that he burned a teacher to death five years ago..."

All sorts of dirt flew towards him, and he had no choice but to turn and run. People rushed into the corridor without any courtesy.

He hid in his house, locked the door, and trembled. Someone banged on the door: "Murderer, get out!"

Someone spray-painted blood-red slogans and black skulls on the door and walls.

The property management tried to stop it, but the security guards hired by this old community were all retired old men, and they were unable to stop the angry people.

Not far downstairs, Qin Xiuzhu silently watched the chaotic scene.

What a familiar scene.

Those people holding up their phones to broadcast live might be the same people who surrounded her house that year, taking the opportunity to grab another wave of traffic, like a group of flies attracted to fish.

Well, that was fine. What she and her family had endured, it was Xu Candong's turn to experience.

But this alone is far from enough.

She stared gloomily at the window of Xu Candong's house. How could he be so unpunished?

Three days later.

Xu Candong had been released from the police station for three days and had been hiding at home for three days, but he couldn't stay there any longer. It wasn't a problem of food; there was takeout.

The main reason is that I haven't been able to gamble for several days. The worse my mood, the more I want to vent.

The more he thought about it, the more frustrated he became, unable to sleep. It was past midnight, and the clock jumped to October 14th, Monday. He parted the curtains and looked down. The dark downstairs was deserted. The anchors who had been waiting downstairs must have left.

He quickly put on his shoes and went downstairs. His car, a silver-gray sedan, was parked not far from the building.

As he walked towards the car, he suddenly heard a familiar sound: the sound of a lighter.

Maybe a man was afraid to smoke at home for fear of being scolded by his wife, so he ran outside in the middle of the night to satisfy his desire.

He casually turned his head and looked in the direction where the sound came from.

Coincidentally, there was another "click" sound, and a flame lit up in the darkness, and the lighter was lit.

A circle of firelight shone from below, revealing a woman's face with short hair and black-framed glasses.

Xu Candong was so frightened that he fell to the ground: "Feng..."
