Chapter 110 The Night is Deep and Quiet
Wen Chu closed her eyes, took two deep breaths, and then pushed the person in front of her aside and entered the lounge.
The person behind them obediently followed, showing no remorse for doing something wrong, and even asked, "What are we doing now?"
"I'm asking you, aren't I? Why don't you want security to come and rescue us? What are you trying to do?"
"I don't want to do anything, I just want to spend more time with you."
"We've been spending almost every day together, isn't that enough?"
"That's not enough. Didn't you used to want to be with me 24/7?"
Wen Chu sat down on the bed, turned her head away and scoffed, "You know that was in the past."
Lu Ming's eyes darkened for a moment, but he quickly returned to normal: "It'll be the same if I cling to you now."
The lounge was silent for a long time. Wen Chu leaned against the headboard and opened another bag of potato chips to eat. Lu Ming walked to the table by himself, took out a few bottles of drinks and wine from the small refrigerator, and took out two glasses from the cabinet.
While eating, Wen Chu kept glancing at the person's back out of the corner of her eye.
A moment later, Lu Ming handed Wen Chu a glass of nicely colored sparkling water: "Due to limited resources, this is the best we can do for now."
Wen Chu hesitated for a moment, but still took it. Looking at the pile of food and drinks stored in the cabinet next to her, she couldn't help but say, "If it were the end of the world, we could stay in this room for two months and not starve to death."
Lu Ming looked at her and smiled.
Wen Chu stared at the person's smile for a moment, then lowered her head and took a sip of her drink—it was lychee flavored. She then said in a cold tone, "What's so funny?"
"I'm so glad you're finally in the mood to joke with me."
"I'm not joking."
Lu Ming sat down on the edge of the bed with the cup in his hand and took a sip.
The curtains in the lounge were not drawn, and through the glass windows, one could see the tall buildings outside and the full moon hanging high in the sky.
A familiar scene flashed through Lu Ming's mind again, making his heart beat faster for no apparent reason.
He turned his head and found that Wen Chu was also looking at the moon outside, but her eyes held a calm indifference and a sorrow he couldn't decipher.
Lu Ming's heart ached again. If the scenes in his dream were real, then Wen Chu at that time had eyes that seemed to hold stars, radiant and captivating, and anyone would be drawn to her.
He reached out and turned off the lights in the lounge. The darkness made the moon outside the window even brighter, and made their heartbeats even clearer.
Wen Chu's eyelids twitched, but she didn't say anything.
She thought back to the scene when she first came into this world, and realized that so much time had passed without her noticing.
She once sat on the bedroom floor with the man before her, drinking and chatting. At that time, she still held onto the self-righteous clarity of an outsider, carefree and generously offering comfort to the man who was heartbroken in love.
And now, she can't even tell if she's conscious or not.
She couldn't resist using the moonlight streaming through the window to get a closer look at the man's silhouette.
Did this person really remember?
"Want to play games?" Lu Ming suddenly asked.
Wen Chu's heart trembled violently again.
Do you really remember? Then why don't you ask her?
They gazed at each other in the moonlight. The man's gaze was intense, and Wen Chu couldn't help but look away: "I'm not playing."
She didn't come here to reminisce about the past; it was all a lie. Whether she remembered or not is no longer important.
Such a quiet night can easily stir one's emotions and agitate sensitive nerves in the mind.
Lu Ming silently tightened his grip on the cup in his hand. His Adam's apple bobbed twice as he cautiously approached the person.
Wen Chu immediately placed her hand on his chest to stop him from getting any closer, and asked warily, "What are you doing?"
Despite the resistance, Lu Ming still managed to get close to her ear, his breath seeming to caress her earlobe, making her tremble uncontrollably.
"I really like you." The voice was so soft it sent a shiver down your spine.
Wen Chu's right cheek went numb immediately.
Lu Ming shifted slightly away, his gaze landing on the soft lips so close to his own, burning as he tried to suppress the urge to kiss them recklessly.
Wen Chu's hand, which was pressed against the person's chest, turned into a fist and punched the person hard: "Stay away from me!"
Lu Ming, who had been punched, clutched his chest and coughed, his expression indescribable: "You're really strong."
Wen Chu tossed the wine glass and the empty bag of potato chips onto the table, then lay down, clasped her hands together in front of her chest, and refused to chat with anyone anymore: "I'm going to sleep."
"And what about me?"
"You'll sleep on the floor."
"Okay... then." Lu Ming said as he stood up from the bed. The dented bed returned to normal, and then he heard the curtains being drawn, followed by silence.
Seeing that the person offered no resistance, Wen Chu frowned slightly. After a while, she half-opened one eye to see if the other person was really asleep on the floor, but unexpectedly met the gaze of Lu Ming, who was still squatting in front of the bed and looking at her.
Wen Chu was startled, and her body trembled.
Lu Ming's smile deepened: "Wen Chu, you have me in your heart."
"What the hell! Are you crazy?! Why are you staring at me like that?!"
Lu Ming said no more, his voice softening: "Go to sleep, I'll stay with you."
Wen Chu, still shaken, frowned again: "You're not planning to wait until I fall asleep and then sit next to me all night holding my hand, are you?"
"Is that okay?" Lu Ming asked instead of answering.
"Of course not, I can't sleep at all if you do that."
"Then what can I do?"
There was only one bed in the office, and the short sofa was so small that Lu Ming couldn't even fit half a leg on it.
Wen Chu was conflicted for a moment.
She needed to increase his favorability; she couldn't expect to keep giving him the cold shoulder and raise his favorability to 100% on her own.
In order to go home, she still had to give in.
So she had no choice but to sit up, get out of bed, and take two cushions from the sofa, placing them horizontally in the middle of the bed.
"Half for each person, no crossing the line."
Lu Ming's eyes flickered: "Want to sleep together?"
"What? I said half for each of us, no crossing the line! How does this mean sleeping together?"
Lu Ming was silent for a while, and finally refused: "Forget it, you can sleep here. The bed is too small, you won't be comfortable."
Wen Chu was furious: "Why are you pretending like this? If you don't want to sleep, just call the security guards right now and have them come and break in. I'd give them my whole heart!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Lu Ming ripped off his tie, put it aside, took off his shoes, and got into bed.
Wen Chu was dumbfounded. Damn, this guy is really good at pretending!
The space next to her sank in due to the man's weight, and Wen Chu suddenly felt awkward. The bed wasn't small, but there wasn't much room for two adults to sleep together.
Lu Ming lay down properly, and an invisible magnetic field seemed to immediately form between them, making their presence extremely strong.
Wen Chu clasped her hands together; even though the air conditioning was on, she still felt hot.
She pretended to turn over casually, turning her back to the man.
The room was very quiet, so quiet it made one's heart tighten.
Lu Ming asked, "Are you going to sleep?"
"Yes. Don't say another word!"
"All right."
With his nerves on edge, Lu Ming didn't say anything more, but it seemed like he heard Lu Ming turn over behind him.
Wen Chu was wary of people, but as she kept being on guard, she gradually lost her ability to think and think.
She wasn't comfortable sleeping on her side, so she turned over in her sleep. There seemed to be a source of fragrance nearby, a faint scent that made her feel comfortable and relaxed, allowing her to sleep even more soundly.
She didn't know how long she had slept, but she suddenly woke up again. She opened her eyes in the darkness; it seemed that the night was already deep.
But more importantly, her forehead was pressed against another person's chest, and an arm was wrapped around her waist, holding her.
There was no longer any distance between her and Lu Ming.
She snapped back to reality, alarm bells ringing in her mind.
Why are you sleeping like this?
She glanced down and saw that the "Chu River and Han Border" had been gloriously kicked off the bed, scattered here and there.
Wen Chu struggled to lift her head from the man's embrace, finally getting a breath of fresh air and seeing his sleeping face, eyes closed, breathing evenly.
But the next second, the other person slowly opened their eyes and looked at her with an unclear gaze.
The man's sleep remained as light as ever.
Just as Wen Chu was about to speak, Lu Ming moved and leaned down to kiss her naturally.
"Huh?" Wen Chu's eyes widened in disbelief. How dare this person?
She pushed him away twice, but he only held her tighter, and the air in her mouth suddenly became tense. The man pried open her teeth with a hint of impatience, but his movements remained gentle, lightly biting and sucking on her lower lip, and then teasing her tongue.
The air in her lungs was almost completely taken away by the other person. Wen Chu wanted to step back and breathe, but the other person couldn't wait to catch up and continue to kiss and bite her lips, like a hungry wolf that hadn't eaten meat in a long time.
In the darkness, all was silent except for the ambiguous, rapid breathing and a few low murmurs.
An electric current surged through Wen Chu's body. She tried to push him away, but Lu Ming rolled over and pinned her down. His hands became even more unrestrained, gradually moving downwards.
When a certain sensitive spot was touched, Wen Chu felt her brain explode. She grabbed his hand, sat up abruptly, and yelled, "Where are you touching?! You're pushing your luck!"
Lu Ming was stunned for a moment, then suddenly came to his senses. Realizing what he had done, he became at a loss for words: "No... I... I thought I was dreaming..."
"Dreaming?? What kind of dream are you having!"
"I'm sorry!" Lu Ming quickly apologized, hurriedly grabbing her arm, his voice trembling, "Don't be angry... I really didn't mean to!"
Wen Chu sighed, not wanting to say anything more. She lay back down, wrapped herself in the blanket, moved to the edge of the bed, and warned from a distance, "Don't cover yourself with the blanket! Stay away from me, or I'll kill you if you dare come any closer."
Lu Ming, seemingly unafraid of death, moved closer again, pulling her and the blanket into his arms, explaining, "I've had so many dreams this year, almost all of them about you. Only in my dreams do you lie beside me, look at me, and speak to me, so I was just momentarily distracted and didn't react. It really wasn't intentional..."
Lu Ming could still feel his fingertips burning slightly.
"So in my dream, this is how you treated me?" Wen Chu delivered a heavy elbow strike from behind, but it didn't cause any damage to the opponent.
Lu Ming felt as if his thoughts had been read, and his head spun with embarrassment: "It happened a few times... but it wasn't something I could control."
Wen Chu was furious: "Don't you understand what I'm saying? Let go of me! Do you believe I'll really kick you down and make you sleep on the floor?"
Lu Ming grabbed her hand and sat up with her, saying seriously, "Wen Chu, if I told you that the reason I couldn't recognize my own heart before was because I had been forgetting some things, especially things about you, would you believe me?"
Wen Chu paused in her struggle, a wave of shock washing over her, but she pretended not to understand: "Are you saying you're mentally ill?"
Lu Ming paused for a moment, taken aback by the person's highly condensed summary, and quickly explained his health: "No, I'm not sick. I've had many brain examinations, and there's nothing wrong with them."
"You went to the hospital? When was that?" Wen Chu was very surprised that this person had already begun to doubt her memory.
"A long time ago, before we started arguing."
Wen Chu was even more surprised: "Then why didn't you say so back then?"
"Because the cause of the illness cannot be found, the diagnosis is uncertain."
"So you're sure now?"
"It should be... but it seems to be better after your accident. I wrote down what happened each day and found that I hadn't forgotten anything. But there were definitely some problems during the time I spent with you."
Wen Chu's mind was racing.
How could Lu Ming realize the problem with his memory? Was it because he was really close to success this time?
The higher the other party's favorability towards her, the more flexible she becomes, but she shouldn't touch the essence of this world. Could this be another bug? Will the system suddenly pop up to fix it again?
Could it be that... the previous sudden problem was fixed by the system because Lu Ming realized something?
Wen Chu immediately tensed up. She had to stop herself from thinking too deeply. If she touched the system's sore spot again, she would be the one to suffer. She had just calmed down and couldn't afford any more trouble. If she were to be reset again inexplicably, even ten speed-up cards wouldn't be enough to make up for her mental damage.
She forced herself to remain calm and replied, "You mean my presence is affecting your mind?"
"No, of course that's not what I meant." Lu Ming's expression remained serious. He lowered his head, scrutinizing Wen Chu's subtle changes in expression in the darkness. "I wanted to ask, did you really not notice that I was acting this way?"
Wen Chu denied it, saying, "I don't think so. It's clearly because you don't care about me, you don't take my words or my affairs to heart. I've gotten used to it, and I'm tired of it. You say you'll forget, but I haven't seen you forget how much money your company makes, how much business you have, but you forget about me? If that's really the case, then it means even God is saying we're not suitable."
"And now you're saying that you haven't found any conclusive cause of the illness yet. Doesn't that sound like you're making excuses for your indecisive and wavering behavior?"
Lu Ming had intended to ease tensions, but instead, he had angered the woman. He quickly apologized in a low voice, "I'm really not trying to excuse what I did. I'm sorry, please don't be angry."
“No need to apologize,” Wen Chu turned her head away, her voice turning cold. “Everyone has the freedom to like or dislike another person. You just don’t like me, that’s all. You haven’t done anything wrong.”
Lu Ming's heart skipped a beat upon hearing this, and he quickly gripped the other person's hand tightly: "I like you, I really like you."
He lowered his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing, and finally made up his mind to lay his heart bare before others: "Wen Chu, whether you believe it or not, I want to say that I am really sorry that you had to go through so much alone. It really wasn't my intention... I don't know what was wrong with me during that time. Whenever I thought of you, it was as if something was preventing me from having any emotions, making me unable to see my own heart."
“I’m really not a fickle person, and I never thought of playing with your feelings. During the time we were together, I really thought about our relationship seriously. It was indeed Lu Mingxiao’s idea to take you to the amusement park, but it was also my choice. The jewelry I gave you was designed by myself. Introducing you to my friends was my own selfish reason. I really get jealous when you talk to Qi Siyan. I like playing games with you, I like listening to you talk in my ear, and I like you clinging to me. These are not just fleeting thoughts. I also want to watch the sunrise with you, cook together, and do all the things that couples do.”
"I didn't ask anyone to write the clarification. Seeing how close you and Qi Siyan were afterwards really hurt me, so I said a lot of things I didn't mean. I wanted to test whether you still cared about me. The bar called you because they wanted to get back together. I was just a little slow to react, not because I didn't care about you."
Wen Chu listened quietly as the person finished speaking at length.
Her nasal cavity felt like it was covered by a wet sheet of paper, making it hard to breathe. She lowered her head and blinked hard to hide the moisture in her eyes, but the bitterness in her heart only grew stronger.
Her throat was dry and tight, preventing her from uttering a single word.
Despite her best efforts to hold back, tears still streamed down her face.
The silent night consumed her other senses, and the emotions that had been building up inside her burst forth like a flood. She was so conflicted and so heartbroken.
Wen Chu cried silently, but it made Lu Ming panic. He carefully cupped her face and wiped away her tears, his eyes glistening with tears as he said, "Don't cry... It's my fault, I've been bad to you."
Wen Chu slapped the other person's hand away, wiped the tears from her cheeks haphazardly, and silently processed her emotions without saying a word.
"I'm so sorry." Lu Ming hugged her, his voice trembling slightly. "Do you remember, when we were at the amusement park, you owed me a favor?"
"I don't remember," Wen Chu said in a firm tone.
Lu Ming sighed softly, his expression frantic: "Give me another chance, let's start over, okay?"
"Please, trust me one more time."
Wen Chu looked at him without saying a word. She had stopped crying, but her eyes were still very dry.
Lu Ming reached out and gently stroked her cheek with his thumb, then carefully leaned closer and softly pressed his lips to hers. Wen Chu simply sat there, neither resisting nor responding, her eyes open, watching the person kissing her up close.
Seeing this, Lu Ming held the back of her head, making the kiss even deeper.
The temperature around them rose again, and the two gradually became aroused. Lu Ming's shirt was completely unbuttoned, the fabric spreading out to reveal his firm abdomen and chest.
Wen Chu stared at his body, making Lu Ming a little embarrassed. He pinched her chin, breathing slightly heavily, trying to shift her gaze upwards so she would kiss him again.
Wen Chu straddled his lap.
Lu Ming's heart tightened again. He finally grasped Wen Chu's hand, which was about to make an improper move, and stopped her, saying, "My willpower isn't as strong as you think. Don't test me..."
Wen Chu raised her chin and asked, "You don't dare?"
Lu Ming's eyes flickered: "Now... isn't the time..."
"When is the right time? Haven't you thought about it so many times in your dreams? You're so adept at it."
"I didn't consciously think about it; it was... a natural reaction."
Wen Chu scoffed softly.
Lu Ming rolled over, instantly changing their positions. He was now on top, scrutinizing Wen Chu's face, even his breath carrying a hint of desire. His eyes flickered with lust, but he ultimately gave up, saying, "Maybe I should just go to the sofa."
"Are you really sure?"
"..." Lu Ming hesitated again.
As Wen Chu spoke, her hands began to wander again. Lu Ming was aroused and his chest heaved rapidly. Before his lower body could completely control his upper body and do something absurd, he turned Wen Chu over and hugged her, restraining her hands and feet to prevent any further contact.
"Aren't you a coward?" Wen Chu asked disdainfully, though her heart was pounding nervously.
Lu Ming let out a long breath with extreme restraint, and whispered in her ear, "I didn't prepare a condom..."
Wen Chu was taken aback, a hint of embarrassment flashing across her eyes, and then she deflated. A few seconds later, she retorted sarcastically, "Isn't this a treasure chest with everything you could want?"
"I'll update tomorrow."
"Go to hell, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Wen Chu struggled for a moment, signaling the person to loosen their grip. "It's hot. I'll sleep if you don't do this."
The provocation didn't work. Not only did Lu Ming not try to stop her, he also let go of her and lay down on the side.
He covered his eyes with his hands, his voice hoarse as if burned: "You go to sleep first, I'll rest for a while."
Wen Chu was even angrier.
They stood with their backs to each other, silent for a long time, yet they felt each other's presence constantly.
My heartbeat finally calmed down after a long time.
Wen Chu lay on her side, staring blankly at a faint point in the darkness, her hand gripping the blanket tighter and tighter.
Once the mission is complete, this world will be shut down and never reopened again, and all the people here will cease to exist. She really shouldn't waste her feelings on anyone here anymore.
However, she cannot always be rational and clear-headed, to the point that she was a little reckless just now, not wanting to think about anything, and just wanting to follow her heart and act impulsively.
But now that I've calmed down and reason has taken over again, how should I face the situation next?
