Chapter 2 Who's following you?
Hearing the sound, Lu Ming turned his head and gave her a look from head to toe with an unfriendly gaze. The man was wearing a well-tailored black suit, his tie was neatly tied, and his entire body was pressed without any wrinkles. He was very refined, but his figure seemed to be a little thinner than in reality, and the hair hanging in front of his forehead was also a little longer than the real Lu Ming.
He lacks the mature charm and instead gives off the feeling of a cool and aloof boy who has only graduated for a couple of years but is eager to act like an adult. The resemblance is probably 80-90%.
Through him, Wen Chu seemed to see a side of Lu Ming that was arrogant and conceited in his youth.
As for his aura, Lu Ming in real life also has a strong sense of boundaries. He knows when to stop in his dealings with people and has a faint sense of detachment. But the man in front of her gives Wen Chu a stronger feeling. He is not only detached, but also has a lot of indifference and impatience, especially after seeing her.
But her face is still stunning. High nose, thin lips, long and thick eyelashes, bright black pupils, and a fair complexion. Even though her brows are almost furrowed together, she still exudes a youthful innocence unlike that of a 30-year-old man.
Looking at that face, Wen Chu felt a little itchy, and a wicked thought popped into her head: she wanted to provoke the person even more and see how furious they would get.
She stared intently at him, a wicked smile involuntarily curving her lips. Her expression, projected onto the man in the back seat, was no different from his previous mindless and fervent gaze of infatuation—not out of character at all. This made the man's brows furrow even deeper, and he lowered his crossed legs, watching her every move with wary eyes, as if she might devour him at the slightest misstep.
"What are you doing? Haven't you looked enough?"
Wen Chu said "Oh," then came to her senses and asked, "What's wrong with your car? Is there a problem?" She asked gently, but her face showed a gloating smile.
Lu Ming, who had been followed and provoked the entire way, finally snapped, "This is none of your business. Go back to your own car. Don't you have anything else to do all day? I told you to stop following me!"
"Who's following you? Stop—" Wen Chu was about to say "You're so narcissistic" when her mouth was silenced. Then the system's voice appeared in her mind: "Warning: The host must not engage in out-of-character (OOC) statements or behaviors during the novice stage."
…………
fine.
Wen Chu had no choice but to change her tune: "Don't look down on me. This road isn't yours to drive. I'm going to work too, okay? Everyone's work hours are about the same. I was just trying to help you, how can you talk to me like that?" Wen Chu looked very hurt.
Lu Ming showed no appreciation whatsoever and ruthlessly exposed her clumsy acting: "Stop pretending. Do you even know how to go to work? You'd better not go and cause trouble for Chairman Wen."
Wen Chu tried to save face, saying, "How could you say that about me? I have my own ambitions too. I make time to come see you every day, okay?"
This made Lu Ming laugh even more, "Then your free time is too easy to squeeze out."
Wen Chu was about to retort, still angry, when she saw the driver circle around and come back. After making some adjustments, he tried to restart the car. She quickly chanted in her mind, "It won't start, it won't start, please don't start!"
As she wished, the startup still failed.
The driver was puzzled. Something was wrong today; the car just wouldn't start. It wasn't some old, beat-up car; this shouldn't be happening.
Lu Ming looked at the driver and asked, "Old Chen, what's wrong? Can it be resolved quickly?"
Driver Lao Chen touched the back of his neck, looking guilty and nervous. After all, it was his responsibility to make his boss late because he hadn't checked the car properly before work. "I don't know, it might be a problem with the engine. It's usually fine, and I have regular maintenance and checks. I don't know what happened today, it suddenly stalled. It's so strange."
Wen Chu feigned concern and asked, "Is the oil out?"
"No, I just filled up with gas yesterday," Old Chen said anxiously.
"You really do ask much more stupid questions than others," Lu Ming couldn't help but say.
If it weren't for the fear of being warned by the system, Wen Chu would have loved to roll her eyes at this person. This person's mouth is even more venomous than the Great Demon Lord's; the "I really hate her" setting is definitely not just empty words.
"I was just worried for you. You're always punctual for work, never late." She was borrowing Lu Ming's habit from real life. After she finished speaking, Old Chen's expression worsened. It seemed she was right. Wen Chu quickly comforted her, "Oh, it's nothing, don't worry. Just let him ride in my car. It's okay if I'm a little late."
The man firmly refused: "My affairs are none of your concern. If the car can't be fixed, I'll just take a taxi."
"Parking is difficult around here. Where are you going to get a taxi? You'll have to walk to the next intersection, which is several hundred meters away. It's hot today, and look how nice you're dressed. You'll be covered in sweat and look terrible. But there's a comfortable and safe car parked just three meters away from you. Are you sure you don't want to get in and just suffer the consequences? No matter how bad I am, at least I'm sincere towards you, right?"
Wen Chu reasoned with him and appealed to his emotions, and Lu Ming fell into a brief silence after she said that, but Wen Chu saw that he was still unwilling to compromise.
Feeling bad, Old Chen also advised, "Yes, boss, it's really hot today, and it's hard to get a taxi. We just happened to run into Miss Wen today. Why don't you ask her to give you a ride, and I'll call a tow truck to take your car for repairs?"
Wen Chu leaned against the car door frame, leisurely waiting for a response like a carefree playboy. She was thinking to herself, "You're going to get in this car today whether you like it or not. If you don't get out, I'll have to resort to crying, making a scene, and threatening suicide to get you out."
Fortunately, things didn't escalate to such an ugly state. Lu Ming opened the car door and got out, looked ahead, and seemed to be stubbornly estimating how long it would take to get to the next intersection.
Wen Chu grabbed his arm directly, "Hey, stop dawdling, or we'll be late! You sit in the back, I'll drive in the front, I can't do anything to you."
Lu Ming disgustedly pulled his arm away from her hand. "I'm warning you, don't touch me."
"Then you'd better hurry up and leave."
Lu Ming eventually walked around her and turned back.
Having achieved her goal, Wen Chu good-naturedly withdrew her hand.
Lu Ming opened the back door and got in. The car had a faint fragrance and smelled fairly clean and pleasant. Wen Chu happily got into the driver's seat. "Where is your company? I'll give you directions."
Lu Ming frowned again: "Can you stop pretending? You're the person who knows my company best, aren't you?"
In fact, as soon as Wen Chu finished speaking, the memory in her mind was triggered, and the path suddenly became clear. While starting the car, she said evasively, "Oh, I remember, I remember. My memory is sometimes good and sometimes bad, please bear with me."
Lu Ming looked out the window speechlessly, "I thought you were finally acting normal, but now I realize you can't keep up the act for more than three seconds. Aren't you tired of doing this every day? I can't see a single quality that Wen Xue has in you."
Oh dear, that brings us to it! She was just worried about not knowing about Wen Xue.
Wen Chu tentatively said, "It's good that you can't see it. After all, I like you. If you were like my sister, then it might be a different story."
Lu Ming, provoked, glared at her again, "What do you mean by that?"
"What I mean is, I think my sister doesn't like you at all!"
She had no idea where her rumored older sister, Lu Ming's white moonlight, was now, whether she would appear to confront her later, or what their current relationship status was.
But since he's supposed to be her "white moonlight," according to the tropes of melodramatic novels, she should be temporarily unable to have him, otherwise, what's the point of her trying to win him over? So, she had no choice but to steer the conversation in a way that would benefit her. If she went astray, she'd just play dumb.
“Here we go again.” Lu Ming seemed helpless towards her. “At least have some skill in your attempts to sow discord. She and I are clearly in love, but we both have more important things to do right now and can’t be together for the time being. Unlike you, who do nothing all day, idle around, and act like a drama queen, only knowing how to get attention by abusing yourself.”
"Wow, what a perfect mutual affection! Has she contacted you recently?" Wen Chu's tone sounded sarcastic, but only she knew how guilty she actually felt.
Lu Ming paused, then said, "Of course we keep in touch! It's just that she's abroad and there's a time difference... so we don't contact each other very often. Stop bothering me. I've said I have no feelings for you. How many times do I have to say it? I don't want you around where I am. As her sister, you shouldn't put her in a difficult position or make things difficult for me in this kind of situation."
Abroad! Great! Wen Chu gripped the steering wheel happily.
She ignored what he said next and retorted sarcastically, "What does staying in touch prove? If you look at it that way, don't we stay in touch even more?"
Lu Ming closed his eyes, feeling like he was talking to a brick wall: "That's just wishful thinking on your part!"
"Then how do you know you're not just wishful thinking?" Wen Chu mocked, then started making things up again: "Besides, I've never heard her say she felt awkward, and she's rarely even mentioned you to me."
Not satisfied with just that, he added cheekily, "I feel like she's only so-so about you... um... otherwise why would she go abroad and not come back to see you for so long?"
As soon as she said that, Lu Ming fell into deep thought. A crack appeared on his icy face, and he broke down, saying, "Impossible. How could she not have mentioned me?"
"Anyway, she's never told me once that she likes you." Actually, this is the truth, since Wen Chu has never even met her, let alone spoken to her.
Lu Ming was silent for a while, his chest heaving, before retorting, "That's because she's shy. There's no need for others to know about our relationship. Stop trying to sow discord. Even if Wen Xue doesn't like me, I won't even glance at you. You should give up now. I won't fall for you just because you've done these things. I've made myself perfectly clear. If you could be more normal, I might treat you like a younger sister."
“Who wants to be your sister? I have an older brother, okay?” She has an older brother who manages a company here, and Wen Xue is her second older sister. Wen Chu continued, “Don’t be so domineering. Look, my sister doesn’t like you, but you still like her. So why can’t I pursue you if you don’t like me? Besides, look around. Maybe you’ll find that I’m quite similar to her. Wen Xue intends to develop her career abroad and we don’t know when she’ll come back. You need to learn to be flexible and look at the people in front of you.”
"I told you, Wen Xue and I are in love!" Lu Ming corrected her angrily, then glanced at her again and finally realized why this woman looked so awkward today.
She usually likes to wear flashy clothes, has no sense of style, and only pursues the most expensive clothes. But today she changed into a simple, pure white long dress and used pearl hair clips to hold her hair back. She looked gentle and gentle, which was completely different from her usual image and temperament.
Lu Ming quickly understood the woman's intention and instantly became even more disgusted. He scoffed, "Trying to imitate someone else's walk like someone from Handan. Do you think you can become like her by imitating her style of dress? Anyone who knows you and her wouldn't think you resemble her. Your imitation of her only makes you look ridiculous. You don't possess any of the qualities she has."
The other party's words were blunt and unpleasant, so it seemed he wasn't the kind of male protagonist who liked to create stories about substitutes or doubles. Wen Chu took a deep breath, nodded calmly, and said, "Okay, I'll get you a different one tomorrow. You can take a look."
"Don't torture yourself or me; it's a waste of your energy."
Wen Chu said good-naturedly, "I have plenty of strength, honey."
"..." The man looked at her strangely, seemingly finding it odd. The Wen Chu he remembered was crazy and irritable, and would definitely go berserk and scream when she heard these things, or even cry and make a scene. But today, she had a kind of calm madness, which made him unable to figure her out. He wondered if she was brewing some big move.
He couldn't help but ask, "Did you lose your mind in the pool yesterday?"
Wen Chu said casually, "Yes, not only did it get flooded, but it almost killed us."
Speaking of this, Wen Chu felt a surge of anger.
The system was hostile towards her, as if she were some heinous criminal. Others transmigrate and wake up in bed, on the ground, in a hospital... usually after surviving a near-death experience. But she transmigrated into the water, and to make matters worse, she couldn't swim. She was immediately in a life-or-death situation.
At that moment, the blinding, mysterious halo kept growing larger in front of her eyes. After a moment of dizziness, she felt an icy chill, as if her body was being submerged in water. She felt a strong sense of suffocation and smelled a faint disinfectant odor.
When she opened her eyes, she found herself actually in the water!
She was in the deep end of the swimming area, very close to the shore, but as she struggled, the powerful water pressure prevented her from moving forward even a step. The steps that were so close seemed so far away, and her fear of death was magnified infinitely. In her panic, she vaguely saw two people standing on the shore, one of whom was Lu Ming.
Completely bewildered and gripped by the fear of death, Wen Chu seemed to see a glimmer of hope and struggled, waving her arms: "Help...help me!!! I...glug glug...can't swim!"
But for some reason, Lu Ming on the shore remained unmoved, simply standing there with a slight frown as he looked at her.
Confused, she cursed inwardly, thinking the other party was settling a personal score for her refusal to change the algorithm.
The person next to him said something to the man with concern, and Lu Ming's expression softened slightly.
Suffocation and fear enveloped Wen Chu. She choked on several more mouthfuls of water and grew weaker and weaker. Was she, a powerful woman, going to drown in this swimming pool?
She shouted at the last moment, "Lu Ming!!!"
