Chapter 31 Will you take it off yourself, or should I help you...?
Wen Chu watched them leave, then turned and walked towards the Kemin Building, smiling at the company employees who were secretly observing them.
So the news that she and Lu Ming were dating quickly spread throughout the company.
I've always heard that the heiress of our company chased after the president of another company, and now she's successfully won his heart—that's the latest gossip headline.
Wen Chuyi immediately got to work upon entering the company. She quickly reviewed the overall process of using the RX algorithm to improve the most advanced model framework on paper. If Lu Ming couldn't master that technology, she could offer some assistance, which was also an important way to improve his favorability.
But she definitely couldn't complete such a large workload on her own, and she didn't want to die from overwork in a strategy game world.
But there's no rush. She'll help him when he's really in trouble. That will surely move him to tears!
The initialization period was extended to one month, so she no longer had to pester Lu Ming every day. As a result, she was busy all day long, and the building was brightly lit, with no difference between night and day.
While she was working, the fact that she and Lu Ming had walked out of the same hotel room that morning spread rapidly throughout the city's social network, carrying with them news of their relationship.
With the blinds closed, the sky was obscured, and Wen Chu had no idea what time it was when a phone call suddenly came in. She glanced at it and discovered it was from Lu Ming.
Wen Chu raised an eyebrow. Oh, what a rare guest!
She answered the phone quickly, her tone light and glib: "Hello? What's up? Missing me?"
"How long do you expect me to wait down there?" The man's tone on the phone was full of frustration and dissatisfaction.
"Huh?" Wen Chu picked up her phone and glanced at the time, only to find it was already seven o'clock, well past the normal closing time. She stood up abruptly, her face full of surprise: "You really came to pick me up?" She walked to the window, opened the blinds, and looked down. Sure enough, a black car was waiting at the door.
"I'll give you ten minutes to come down here, or I'm leaving." Lu Ming hung up the phone after uttering those harsh words.
"!" Wen Chu quickly picked up the documents she hadn't finished reading and went downstairs.
The ostentatious Cayenne had been parked at the entrance for quite some time, attracting the attention of countless people. Lu Ming waited for two or three hours under all those gazes.
Holding the documents, Wen Chu sprinted to the car like a 100-meter dash, gave an embarrassed smile, and asked, "How long have you been waiting? Why didn't you call me sooner?"
"How was I supposed to know you'd take this long?" I usually leave work at 4:30 and go to his company to wait for him.
Lu Ming was seething with anger, but after glancing at the documents in the girl's hand, he swallowed back the even harsher words that were on the tip of his tongue.
He almost thought this was a test of his obedience from the woman, and he stupidly let her wait until now. He's been doing his work on his laptop, which he's holding on his lap.
It turns out that this damn woman was just talking nonsense!
Lu Ming began to deeply reflect on when he had started to give people so much face.
"I was so engrossed in my work, okay? It wasn't on purpose." Wen Chu opened the passenger door and got in, muttering softly, "Who knew you'd actually come to pick me up..."
It seems that all her efforts were worthwhile. How could Lu Ming, who had just been reset, possibly be willing to be her driver? At most, he would send someone to pick her up.
Having been used to being an ordinary person, I'm still a little unaccustomed to suddenly being promoted to a higher level.
Lu Ming said with a gloomy face, "There won't be a next time."
Wen Chu feigned weakness, saying, "No, it's only once. What will others think? Besides, I think all this effort is for you, helping you find new technology development ideas."
Lu Ming glanced at the documents in Wen Chu's hand again out of the corner of his eye, stretched out his hand, and said coldly, "Is that so? Then let me see what you've come up with."
"No, these are classified documents. I'll deal with them after I've figured them out." Wen Chu clutched the documents tightly in her hands warily, but then smiled and said, "However, if you really want to know soon, there's another way."
Lu Ming glanced at her sideways: "What?"
Wen Chu leaned closer and said mysteriously, "Marry me."
Lu Ming: "Nonsense."
Wen Chu: "Nonsense."
The two spoke almost simultaneously. Wen Chu saw a hint of surprise flash across the man's eyes, then laughed triumphantly, "See how well I know you?"
Lu Ming's speechlessness deepened.
When they arrived at his doorstep, he urged them to get out of the car: "We're here."
Wen Chu, however, was still staring at what she was holding, lost in her own thoughts.
Lu Ming turned his head and opened his mouth, but was momentarily distracted by the woman's focused profile.
He paused for a few seconds before snapping out of his daze, shifting his gaze to the road ahead, and urged, "I said, we're here, get out."
"Oh, thank you!" Wen Chu snapped out of her thoughts. "I just finished watching!" She got out of the car, waved to the person, and said goodbye in a cheerful mood, "Bye-bye, Lu Ming~"
Lu Ming felt completely uncomfortable after the girl's sweet, almost tooth-rotting voice. He turned his head away with a look of disgust and got out of the car.
Wen Chu was in a hurry to get home to continue looking for information, but out of the corner of her eye she noticed Lu Ming moving his arm and shoulder, and his expression seemed to be uncomfortable. Only then did she remember that the other party was injured.
She reminded him from afar, "Hey, remember to ask Aunt Sun or Xiao Yuan to give your back another cold compress."
Lu Ming glanced at her, indicating he had heard her, but did not respond and prepared to enter the house.
Wen Chu thought for a moment, sighed, said "never mind," and took a step back from the doorway. She then ran to the man's door in a few steps.
Seeing Wen Chuchao walking towards him from afar, Lu Ming didn't close the door. He stood at the door, holding the doorknob, waiting for the girl to walk up to him before asking, "Is there anything else?"
Wen Chu said helplessly, "I'll help you with it. It would be a miracle if you could get them to do it." After she finished speaking, she didn't wait for a reply, pushed open the half-closed door, and squeezed in.
Lu Ming looked at her, said nothing, and closed the door as if in resignation.
Aunt Sun and Xiao Yuan lost their previous memories once again. When they saw her come in, they seemed to be focused on their own things, but their eyes were practically overflowing with curiosity.
Wen Chu greeted them as usual and went upstairs, leaving the group stunned and their faces full of surprise.
They were probably wondering why someone as arrogant, willful, and scheming as her would greet them, and why the young master would let her in and allow her to go to the bedroom.
Wen Chu sighed helplessly.
"Do you want to take it off yourself, or should I help you?" She asked directly, holding an ice pack and closing the door.
Lu Ming couldn't help but frown. "Can you stop talking like a bandit?"
"This is clearly a normal question, okay? Hurry up!"
Lu Ming was speechless. He took off his suit jacket, hesitated for a moment while unbuttoning his shirt, but finally stopped being coy and took it off in one go, throwing the clothes casually on the sofa.
He sat on the bed shirtless, turning his back to Wen Chu. The wounds on his back weren't as red anymore, but they were still shocking to look at.
The two remained silent. Wen Chu sat quietly behind the person, focusing intently on reducing the swelling little by little. Lu Ming's tense muscles gradually relaxed, and he silently glanced back.
Wen Chu didn't notice his gaze and said to herself, "I'll come back tomorrow to apply some medicine to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, so you'll recover faster. Otherwise, you'll have to lie on your stomach and sleep for several days."
"There's no need to go through all that trouble. It'll be fine in a while." After all, that's how he grew up.
"Why not use it? When you're sick, you should take medicine; when you're injured, you should treat it immediately. Why tough it out? Some illnesses only get worse if you let them drag on. Please be kinder to yourself! Besides, these injuries are too ugly. They need to heal quickly, otherwise they'll affect my view—" Wen Chu paused, immediately realizing something was wrong, and quickly shut her mouth.
Lu Ming: "?"
"Cough, it's nothing, it's nothing."
Even though she didn't say anything, Lu Ming probably guessed what she meant and said coldly, "So your concern for me was fake; it was mainly because it's affecting your eyes."
"Oh, it's all the same in essence. Although... your muscles are really well-developed, it's the kind of physique I like, hehe." Since the atmosphere had already reached this point, Wen Chu decided to take a chance and quickly reached out to touch the man's biceps, even giving them a squeeze; they were rock hard.
Comfortable.
I actually really wanted to put my hands on my pectoral muscles...
But I'm really afraid of dying.
Lu Ming clearly hadn't expected her to not only look but also actually touch him. He took a deep breath, turned slightly to the side, and glared at her: "Can you stop acting like a hooligan?"
"How is this being a hooligan?" Wen Chu pointed to the teeth marks on her neck that hadn't completely faded, leaned closer so he could see them more clearly, and asked confidently, "Who's being a hooligan? I didn't leave anything on you, I just touched you, so what? So what?!"
"You..." Lu Ming's face suddenly flushed, speechless after being rebuked. Feeling guilty, he turned his head away, clenched his hands, and said in embarrassment and annoyance, "Hurry up and finish it, I want to sleep!"
"You haven't even had dinner yet, what are you sleeping for!"
-
The news that Wen Chu and Lu Ming were dating spread throughout Baiyue the very next day. From senior executives to receptionists, everyone couldn't help but mention it.
"My goodness, Miss Wen is truly a role model! She managed to win over our boss so quickly!"
"I really want to know what the boss's face looks like when he's dating and saying sweet nothings in private! It must be incredibly exciting!"
"Who said the boss could never accept Miss Wen? I told you, even a fierce man can be swayed by a persistent woman!"
“I can’t take it anymore, I can’t take it anymore,” one of the girls shook her head vigorously. “I really hate my rich imagination and vivid imagery.”
"Hahahaha, I'll ship this!"
"I just hope that bosses in relationships can become a little kinder—less overtime, more raises!"
However, it didn't happen.
Lu Ming had read the paper that proposed the RX algorithm before and had intended to study it. Now, after reading it several times, he was even more certain that it contained great development potential. However, as the public has said, there are indeed some immature issues.
We need to carefully consider how to solve this problem.
Then he kept calling meetings with senior management, keeping him extremely busy.
Ultimately, the deal for that new technology fell through, and it was acquired by Xie Rui. Qi Siyan didn't care about technological monopolies; perhaps he valued win-win cooperation more. But Lu Ming couldn't accept that. He was used to fighting alone and wanted to hold everything firmly in his own hands. If the other party wouldn't allow a buyout, it would ultimately be a hidden danger, which he was unwilling to accept. Moreover, while Qi Siyan didn't care about money and was extravagant, Lu Ming felt that the technology wasn't worth such a high price.
Xie Rui's intention was more to prevent him from gaining this opportunity to make a comeback. Therefore, he did not intend to continue this stalemate and allow a third party to reap the benefits, and decisively abandoned further negotiations.
But this outcome left him besieged on all sides. He had just offended the Wen family, and missing out on this project would be a huge loss.
This morning, the Academy of Sciences launched a technology competition among companies, allowing them to send their technical representatives to participate. The competition is ostensibly aimed at promoting corporate culture, showcasing corporate capabilities, enabling leading companies to play a pioneering role, promoting further development in the field of science and technology, and demonstrating the country's leading level in modern science and technology.
Privately, people speculated that the intention was to further assess the companies bidding for the Mingjin project, making the strength of the participating companies more transparent and giving them greater peace of mind.
This is a chance for Baiyue to turn things around, but it's not so easy to seize.
Baiyue had been in a slump for too long and was currently undergoing a gradual transformation. Lu Ming couldn't think of anyone he could trust completely to be sent out as Baiyue's technical representative and bring back a good ranking.
Perhaps the pressure from all sides was too great, and he became mentally unstable. Faced with the screen full of English text on his computer and the piles of related technical reports on his desk, he even drifted off and thought of Wen Chu, that woman.
He imagined the other person chatting fluently with Qi Siyan at the dinner table, their eyes shining like a cat's.
He imagined the other person hugging him and stopping the stick that was about to fall on him.
He thought of how the other party had boasted so arrogantly, saying they would help him develop new technologies.
He also imagined... the other person cupping his face, kissing him, and comforting him.
Lu Ming's face suddenly flushed. He must be crazy. How could he allow Wen Chu to kiss him so intimately without resisting?
He slammed the documents in his hand onto the table to relieve his embarrassment and frustration, but this startled Luo Wen, who had just opened the door and entered.
This made Lu Ming feel awkward again, so he quickly straightened up and asked seriously, "What is it?"
Luo Wen assumed his boss was troubled by work, and now that he was about to deliver bad news, his voice suddenly became weak. He felt incredibly unlucky, as if he had just run into bad luck. He cautiously said, "The technical department has a problem they need to report to you. You might need to go and take a look in person."
Lu Ming gave a soft "hmm," stood up, and walked out.
As he passed by Luo Wen's workstation, he caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of his eye, stopped in his tracks, and looked at the things on Luo Wen's workstation.
Luo Wen followed the person's gaze and panicked, thinking, "Oh no!" The boss doesn't like employees eating during work hours or at the workplace, so he quickly pushed the unopened cake box on the table further inside and explained, "I... I haven't opened it yet. I was thinking of taking it home to eat after work."
Unexpectedly, Lu Ming asked, "Where did you buy this?"
"Huh?" Luo Wen was taken aback, then quickly said, "Ah, it's not a famous brand, it's just a shop at the intersection in front of the company. I just happened to see it today, suddenly wanted to eat it, so I bought it."
Strangely enough, he doesn't usually eat desserts, but for some reason, when he passed by this store today and saw the samples displayed in the window, he really wanted to buy one to try.
Lu Ming stared at the cake box, feeling that the cake was tempting him. He had never eaten it before, or even seen it before, but his intuition told him that it must be delicious.
So he said coldly, "Buy me one and deliver it to my office."
Luo Wen asked again, "Huh?"
Lu Ming looked at him: "What's the problem?"
"Oh, no, I'll go buy it right away!"
Lu Ming nodded and left.
Luo Wen watched his boss's departing figure with some confusion. Had he convinced his boss to eat something? He never saw his boss eating during work hours.
