Chapter 4 A Love Story Like a Home Invasion
"Boss, Miss Wen has been standing downstairs for an hour," Luo Wen reported, looking down through the blinds.
Lu Ming didn't even look up: "Ignore her, she's a persistent ghost. We'll leave through Gate 3 later."
Luo Wen glanced down sympathetically and could only say okay. There were four entrances to the company—east, west, south, and north—so it wouldn't be easy for Miss Wen to find a place to squat.
But when Lu Ming took the elevator to the door of Gate 3, he saw a woman with a bright smile, wearing a light pink short skirt, standing at the door waving at him.
Lu Ming's pupils dilated in shock, and Luo Wen's body also trembled. Wasn't Miss Wen just at Gate Number One?
Without a second thought, Lu Ming turned and left, not forgetting to give Luo Wen a stern look, asking, "Did you tip her off?"
I'm innocent!
"No, no, really not!" Luo Wen quickly explained.
"Hey! Don't you have any manners? Don't you know how to greet me when you see me?" Wen Chu nimbly caught up and "darted" in front of him, almost causing Lu Ming to bump into her.
The man asked coldly, "Aren't you at work?"
"You're off work? I got off work a little earlier than you."
"Oh."
The other party clearly didn't believe her nonsense.
Wen Chu didn't care and handed the delicate little cake she was carrying to the person: "I bought you a dessert. Eating something sweet after a long day will lift your spirits." Her attitude was good and her personality was gentle, completely unlike her fierce demeanor in the morning.
Lu Ming glanced at it and said with disdain, "Thank you, but I don't like strawberries."
"No, you like it." How could what she found out be false?
"You're sick." Lu Ming walked past her and was about to leave.
Wen Chu withdrew her hand, stood still with her back to him, and said slowly, "If you dare to leave, I dare to kiss you in front of all these people."
Luo Wen gasped, thinking to himself that Miss Wen was really getting more and more outrageous.
The employees who were passing by, who were used to such sights, showed a mixture of shock and anticipation in their eyes upon hearing this.
Lu Ming turned around and glared at her in disbelief. "Wen Chu, can't you act like a proper lady? How dare you say something like that?"
Wen Chu turned around to face him leisurely, "How come I don't act like a girl? Can't girls boldly express their love? Do they have to be reserved and demure?"
System: "Detected that the male protagonist is feeling embarrassed and annoyed."
Wen Chu was overjoyed, and her smile became even brighter, making her look like a female hooligan in the eyes of men.
“…” Lu Ming took a deep breath and conceded, “Give it to me.”
"No."
"?" Lu Ming's eyes were filled with utter bewilderment.
"Giving it to you would just mean it would be thrown away anyway, wouldn't it? I queued for an hour to buy it myself, I can't just stand by and watch you ruin the fruits of my labor."
Lu Ming took another breath: "I won't lose it."
I don't believe it.
"...What exactly do you want?"
"Of course I want to watch you eat it." Wen Chu naturally pulled up his sleeve and dragged him outside. "Your car broke down, right? I'll take you home. I'll be happy if you eat a little something on the way back! Don't worry, I'll drive carefully this time."
Lu Ming shook off her hand again, "I don't need it. Do you think I only have one car?"
Wen Chu was speechless. Oh no, she had forgotten that the other person was rich... She quickly changed her strategy with a smile: "Well, then you can take me home. Actually, my car is almost out of gas. The nearest gas station is quite far from here, so I probably can't drive there."
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw a look on the other person's face that said: Are you kidding me? Do you think I'm stupid?
Wen Chu coughed and touched her forehead, indicating that this was a difficult situation. Her deeply ingrained, ordinary-minded thinking was that if a car broke down and needed repairs, you had to take the subway or squeeze onto a bus! How could she possibly have a spare car?
"Well... never mind, you can have it." Wen Chu awkwardly handed the cake to the other person, thinking she could always figure out a solution when she got home!
Lu Ming took it, strode away, and left.
Wen Chu followed suit and got into her car, turned the key, and turned off the engine.
?
I tried again, but it still stalled.
WTF? Is there a mass breakdown in all the cars today? She looked at the dashboard in a daze and saw a large red indicator showing that the fuel was completely depleted, not a drop left.
Is it really... really out of gas?
Without a second thought, she quickly opened the door and got out of the car, stopping the Lincoln that was about to leave, startling the driver, Lowen.
She had never been so self-righteous before, and she said to the people in the back seat who hadn't yet had a chance to get angry at her reckless behavior, "My car really ran out of gas, go check for yourself if you don't believe me!"
"How could you possibly get the fuel so clean?" Lu Ming stood at the door of Wen Chu's car, looking at the fuel gauge pointing to 0%, feeling incredulous. He suspected that this person had no intelligence and no common sense.
System: "Detected that the male protagonist is speechless."
"I was in such a rush to see you that I didn't notice." Wen Chu vaguely felt that the system was helping her. She chuckled and then played the victim, saying, "I did this to bring you dessert. You can't just ignore me. That would be too heartless. My sister would be unhappy if she found out."
Wen Chu finally got her wish and sat in the back seat of Lu Ming's car. She patted the seat next to her, signaling the man to sit there.
Lu Ming refused with a dark expression, saying, "I'll sit in the front."
These words startled Luo Wen. What kind of logic is it for the boss to sit in the passenger seat? Look at how much Miss Wen has forced her good boss.
Wen Chu remained calm and nodded, "That's fine then. I'll drive, Luo Wen, you sit in the back." She then got out of the car.
Luo Wen was terrified; when the city gate catches fire, the innocent bystanders are also affected!
Lu Ming's expression changed as he recalled the other party's aggressive driving that morning. In the end, he opened the car door, got into the back seat, and slammed the door shut, silently expressing his dissatisfaction.
Wen Chu smiled with satisfaction, "That's more like it." You smashed your own car, I won't feel bad about it.
"Luo Wen, drive," Lu Ming urged, looking out the window.
Luo Wen asked hesitantly, "Okay, but boss, shall we go first...?"
Luo Wen was temporarily replacing driver Lao Chen today, so he didn't know that Lu Ming and Wen Chu were actually neighbors.
After asking, he sensed that Lu Ming's expression had become even more irritated. He didn't intend to explain further, but simply frowned and said, "Go to my house, where else would we go?"
Luo Wen: "Then Miss Wen...?"
Wen Chu was very magnanimous: "Don't worry about me! Just take him home first."
Luo Wen nodded and then obediently started driving without saying a word, acting as a tool.
"This cake has ice cream in it, it'll melt if you don't eat it, so hurry up and eat it." Wen Chu pointed to the cake that Lu Ming had placed by the window.
"I don't like eating in the car."
Wen Chu paused, almost thinking she was in the real world after hearing this.
She and Lu Ming used to travel for work together. When she was in a rush and couldn't get up early, she would eat breakfast in the car, but she never saw him eat. At first, she assumed he had gotten up early and eaten, but then one time she was certain Lu Ming hadn't had time to eat. So, while she was eating, she took a steamed bun and handed it to him. Only then did he say, "I don't like eating in the car."
She collected her thoughts, nodded, and said, "Alright, let's find a restaurant nearby for dinner, which will serve as dessert."
Luo Wen silently widened his eyes, secretly marveling at how quickly Miss Wen's mind worked; she could come up with a thousand reasons in a second to create opportunities to be alone with the boss.
“Who wants to have dinner with you? You—” Lu Ming seemed to be saying that she was tired and couldn’t talk anymore. The words that were about to come out turned into a barely audible sigh. Then she twisted the cake, put it on her lap, unwrapped it, scooped out a piece and put it in her mouth.
Seeing this, Wen Chu couldn't help but laugh. Suddenly, she found the little devil's frustrated look rather cute.
"How is it? Is it delicious? I did a lot of research before I found this niche shop," Wen Chu said, taking credit for it.
The system responded first: "Detected that the male protagonist is experiencing a novel emotion."
Wen Chu mentally said "yes".
"I didn't taste anything special. I told you not to waste your time." The cake was small to begin with, and Lu Ming finished it off in a few bites without any expression.
"Saying one thing and meaning another," Wen Chu muttered to herself.
Lu Ming closed the cake box: "What did you say?"
Wen Chu grinned, giving off a bright smile: "I said I wouldn't give up."
She also bought macarons, but the dessert was just an excuse. Seeing that she had achieved her goal, Wen Chu didn't bother people to eat the leftovers.
She was a bit tired after fussing around all afternoon, so she didn't start any new topics.
Let's take a break.
To be honest, this car is quite comfortable, but her Audi A6 is no less comfortable.
She closed her eyes and started planning, then casually grabbed a macaron and popped it into her mouth, going over her current strategy plan once more.
She had never been in a relationship, let alone pursued anyone, so she could only rely on her intuition and what she learned from books to make a general decision.
First, she had to change Lu Ming's opinion of her. This was Wen Chu's own value system. She always believed that attraction between people comes from mutual appreciation. No one would like a good-for-nothing, unambitious, simple-minded person who is full of love and romance.
Moreover, the contrast is the most exciting thing!
Secondly, she has to be kind to people. If you like someone, you have to be kind to them; nobody dislikes being treated well.
Secondly, she needs to find ways to create opportunities to spend time together, and for as long as possible, ideally 24 hours a day. Otherwise, it's impossible for her to increase someone's favorability towards her by 20% in a single day. She's an efficient person and can't afford to waste all her efforts on resetting. Given his workaholic nature, if she wants to see him every day, she'll have to go to his company.
This is still uncertain. From what she learned this afternoon, her family's Kemin Group and Lu's Baiyue Group are both involved in technology development, with interests in finance and e-commerce. They had both cooperation and competition in the early days, but now, due to their different development directions, they seem to have little overlap. During the period when Baiyue was in a slump under Lu Mingxiao's influence, Kemin Group had clearly reached the next level.
This is quite satisfying.
I wonder what her father in this world will think when she says she's going to work in Baiyue. I should find some time to go and see him.
In fact, the more people she met in this world, the more nervous she became, always afraid that her identity would be exposed. But she had no choice but to bite the bullet and go for it.
Lu Ming was amused and annoyed to see the person so casually eating the dessert he had promised to buy for him in his car. He looked out the window speechlessly, deciding to ignore it.
The incense in the car seemed to have a calming effect; Wen Chu leaned back and became sleepy, eventually falling asleep.
After a while, Luo Wen glanced at the rearview mirror and said in a low voice, "Miss Wen seems to be asleep."
Lu Ming, elbowing himself against the car window, said irritably, "What's it to you?"
Luo Wen dared to say something nice for her: "Miss Wen must be quite tired from running around all day."
"Did someone tell her to go through all this trouble?"
Luo Wen sighed inwardly, thinking to himself, "Boss, you should be more careful."
Wen Chu hadn't slept for long when she felt a heaviness in her head.
She vaguely realized that she had accidentally rested her head on Lu Ming's shoulder, and then was pushed away in disgust.
"Go home and sleep if you want," Lu Ming said coldly.
Wen Chu was quite annoyed to be hit while she was sound asleep. She rubbed her head, turned over so her back was to the other person, closed her eyes again, and didn't forget to retort, "I won't, what can you do to me?"
"..."
The car quickly turned into the residential area. Luo Wen parked the car steadily, but after waiting for a while, he didn't get any reaction from the two people in the back seat.
He glanced secretly in the rearview mirror and realized that his boss wasn't asleep either.
Lu Ming remained silent and knocked on the glass window.
Wen Chu's eyelids twitched, but it would take time to boot up the device.
Seeing that no one responded, Lu Ming knocked again, his rhythm now tinged with impatience.
Wen Chu finally came to her senses. She rubbed her slightly sore neck and felt her fatigue subside considerably. She was back to her old self, full of energy to play pranks on people.
"I'm leaving now, I'm leaving now." She opened the car door and got out, and Lu Ming followed closely behind, walking towards his front door without even seeing her.
Wen Chu checked the time; it was already 6:30, and the sky was getting dark. She was also feeling hungry.
She had intended to go home for a meal first, but her gaze fell on the receding figure ahead, and she smiled and immediately chased after it.
Lu Ming pressed his fingerprint, walked into the house, and was about to close the door when suddenly a hand reached in and blocked the door from closing.
The man was startled and instinctively opened the door again, only to see a bright, smiling face in the doorway. His brows furrowed immediately, and he said sternly, "What do you want now? Don't you want your hand anymore?"
Wen Chu rubbed her stomach and said pitifully, "I'm hungry."
"If you're hungry, come home for dinner. Do you need me to cook for you?"
"want."
"?"
I said I wanted it.
"You're sick." Lu Ming said, about to close the door, but Wen Chu quickly put her hand on the door frame, betting that he was a good person.
"I'm not letting you in, no matter what you're thinking."
Wen Chu pouted, her eyes pleadingly sparkling, and said, "Even if you watch me starve to death? I've been thinking about you all day, and haven't eaten or drunk a drop of water."
Lu Ming ignored Wen Chu's cheesy sweet talk and frowned even more: "Are you just spouting nonsense without thinking? You just ate two macarons in the car."
Wen Chu coughed. "Just, just those two pieces."
"If you're hungry, go home and have your auntie cook for you. This isn't a restaurant."
“My housekeepers all had things to do and left.”
Lu Ming didn't expose her, but simply said, "There are shops all around here."
"I don't like eating out."
"What does that have to do with me? If you can't stand the food, then starve to death. Let go."
Wen Chu held on tightly to the door and wouldn't let go. "If you give me a meal, I won't bother you again tomorrow."
Lu Ming's brows relaxed slightly, and he paused in closing the door, seemingly somewhat tempted by her suggestion.
"real?"
"Absolutely true." Ha, provided you remember.
"Eat your meal and leave immediately. Don't stay even a second longer."
"Okay." Wen Chu agreed readily. She would go in first and then decide when to leave.
The man still seemed uneasy and wanted to add something, but Wen Chu didn't give him the chance. Taking advantage of the moment he was still hesitating, she forcefully pried open the door a crack and squeezed her small body inside.
Lu Ming, let me show you what love like a home invasion robbery looks like!
