Chapter 42 Everyone has their little temper.
When Wen Chu got home, she changed out of all the clothes Lu Ming had bought her and threw them in the bathroom. When she wanted to change into her pajamas, she remembered that she had left them at his house yesterday. So she had to use the dressing room to get another set. After changing, she flopped onto the bed and decided to indulge herself today. There was no need to put in so much effort for that damn man anymore.
So she started grinding Nova to level up, and was randomly matched with a level 230 solo player to team up. She didn't say a word, just kept grinding dungeons and fighting bosses, farming equipment and experience points.
Their teamwork wasn't very smooth, and they made several mistakes, which annoyed Wen Chu, but it was still within her tolerance. The boss spoke to her several times during the process, and she replied with a few short text messages.
Before she knew it, she had played for three hours and gained a lot. Wen Chu's mood had improved a lot. She was exchanging a few polite words with the big shot and preparing to log off when she heard two knocks. It was the sound of a friend coming online.
Wen Chu's contact list only has a few people, and they are all friends in the real world. It's almost impossible for them to be online here, so it's self-evident who it is.
She ignored him, exchanged a few words with the big shot, made an appointment to log on again that evening, and then logged off.
Lu Ming stared at the grayed-out avatar, pondered for a moment, and then clicked on it. He saw that the other person had been online for three hours and sixteen minutes, spending almost the entire afternoon playing the game. They had successfully leveled up to 200, had a high win rate, and were playing in a duo queue.
Her personal charm score on her homepage has also increased significantly, which clearly indicates that someone sent her flowers.
He turned off his phone, logged off, and went back to work.
Wen Chu lay on the bed and resumed her old habit of reading romance novels until evening. A car headlight flashed past her window for a moment, accompanied by the sound of a car driving by. Someone next door must have been working overtime and was only coming home at this hour. She glanced out the window briefly from the screen, then continued reading.
I'm tired today and don't want to try to win someone over. I'll give myself a break.
We were supposed to go out tomorrow, but he hasn't said where we're going. He keeps saying he'll tell me, and he still hasn't.
Go if you want, don't go if you don't want to. Anyway, this isn't a task issued by the system.
She felt relieved, turned over, hugged her pillow, and switched to a short video app to start watching videos.
Lu Ming took a shower, changed into his pajamas, and started eating dinner. Aunt Sun set out the chopsticks for him and casually mentioned, "Isn't Miss Wen coming to dinner today? Didn't you say no one would be home?"
Lu Ming paused, his hand holding the chopsticks still, glanced at the unresponsive phone lying to the side, and said, "Don't worry about her, she won't starve."
Aunt Sun had a feeling that the young master was in a bad mood; his face was gloomy and his voice was sullen, so she simply kept quiet.
When Wen Chu saw that it was eight o'clock, her stomach suddenly growled. She got up and realized that she hadn't finished eating yet. Huh? Why didn't the housekeeper call her to eat today?
The NPCs in the house are usually very diligent and remind you at specific times for dinner, so why aren't they doing anything today?
She frowned, recalling that she hadn't seen anyone when she returned at noon, and that she hadn't eaten lunch.
My stomach is completely empty now, and it's starting to give me warning signs.
She rubbed her stomach and got out of bed. Standing by the railing, she called out twice towards the building below, but no one answered.
Is nobody here?
Where has everyone gone?
The empty house was eerily quiet. It was already dark, but the lights downstairs were off. All the furniture was quietly arranged there, without any response. Wen Chu's voice seemed to be swallowed up by the darkness.
"Holy crap!" She was startled, goosebumps rising on her arms. Her intuition told her that she was all alone at home.
Wen Chu was both confused and a little flustered. She was quite afraid of living alone. In reality, she rented a small one-bedroom apartment, only 70 square meters, where she could see the entire apartment at a glance, which made her feel very safe.
But now she lives in a four-story villa with a spiral staircase. She stands alone on the second floor, with unseen dangers lurking both above and below.
Except for the light in her room, everything else was off. The midday sun was strong, but she was so angry that she didn't notice.
What the hell is going on?
She mentally called out to the system, "Where are they? Where did you put my family members??"
System: "The host's housekeeper has gone home on leave to be with her during childbirth."
"What?" Wen Chu then remembered what she had casually said that day. "I was just saying it casually, I was joking with Lu Ming!! You took him away, and now I'm all alone? I have to cook for myself!" Wen Chu never expected that her casual remark would hit her right in the face.
Her villa area was quite far from the nearby shops. Lu Ming probably preferred quiet, so he chose a quiet location near the suburbs, which required a car. Wen Chu made a choice between laziness and starvation and decided to go out to find food.
She turned on all the lights on both sides, mustered her courage, and went downstairs by herself. Then she turned on all the lights in the living room, which finally dispelled the fear brought by the darkness.
She patted her chest, relieved, and said, "Even if the sky falls, the system will protect me. What's there to be afraid of?"
Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door!
"Oh my god!" Wen Chu jumped back a few steps comically, her heart leaping into her throat. In that instant, images of vicious thugs and masked murderers flashed through her mind. She forced herself to remain calm and looked at her front door, asking, "Who is it? Who is it?"
"Miss Wen, it's me."
Wen Chu was taken aback, "Aunt Sun?"
"Yes," Aunt Sun replied.
Wen Chu breathed a sigh of relief and quickly went to open the door. She saw Aunt Sun carrying a white bag. "Auntie, is there anything I can help you with?"
"I remembered you said yesterday that no one was home. Young Master was worried about you, so he asked me to bring you dinner. I wonder if you've eaten yet?"
Wen Chu had every reason to believe that the words of concern her aunt used were added by her herself.
She pouted, then put on a sweet smile and took the food: "Not yet, thank you! I was starving and was about to go out to buy some, I'm so happy to be able to eat your cooking!"
"You're too kind. Someone always needs to stay at home. If there's no one to do it, you're perfectly welcome to come to the young master's house."
Wen Chu snorted, "You may welcome me, but others might not. I don't want to always be someone people dislike."
"How could that be! You see, this was really the young master's order. I wouldn't dare to make the decision on my own." Aunt Sun hesitated for a moment and then said, "When you were here, the young master would eat a lot more. He must like the young lady."
Aunt Sun's words did not comfort Wen Chu. "Then just tell him I'm in a bad mood today and I'm not serving you. Tell him to come back to me next week with the contract drafted!"
After seeing the aunt off, Wen Chu's eyes instantly filled with longing for delicious food, and her mood improved a bit. Who could resist a fragrant meal when they were hungry!
She quickly ran to the table, unpacked the insulated bag, opened the lunchbox inside, and started eating.
Man is made of iron, food is made of steel; you'll get hungry if you skip a meal.
Meanwhile, Aunt Sun entered the house and said to the man sitting on the living room sofa, "The meal has been delivered to Miss Wen."
"What did she say?" Lu Ming looked up and glanced at her.
Aunt Sun looked troubled and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Miss Wen seems to be in a bad mood today. She just said that she'll give her the contract next week. I think... you might need to coax her a little."
"Me, comfort her? Why should I comfort her? What does her bad mood have to do with me? I didn't do anything."
Lu Ming turned off his phone, stood up and walked upstairs, saying indifferently, "Bringing her food is already more than enough, it's inexplicable."
He didn't say anything today, bought her clothes, and was still misunderstood as having ulterior motives, yet he's not even angry. Also, if she wanted an office close by, she could have just said so. Why did she have to make a scene, claiming she'd already said it, and then try to shift the blame onto him? Does she think he's a three-year-old? So easily fooled.
This woman's mind is really unpredictable, sometimes good and sometimes bad.
After going upstairs, Lu Ming closed the door, opened his laptop to process a few emails and the financial statements sent by Luo Wen, then closed it. Bored, he opened his phone and aimlessly swiped back and forth on the home screen.
When he saw the Nova game icon, he clicked on it. The game list was displayed on the right, and there was only one person in his list, but that person's avatar was grayed out.
He played for an hour, leveling up to 130, but the icon in the right-hand list was still grayed out. Feeling bored and inexplicably irritable, he wanted to log off, but then he heard two knocks—someone had logged on.
His finger paused as he clicked "exit," confirming that the avatar had lit up. He manipulated the keys, and the little figure of the black-clad swordsman spun around in place. Some people were attracted to him and challenged him, probably wanting to steal some equipment from him since his level was low. Lu Ming glanced at the chat interface and saw no activity, but his mood calmed down a bit, and he agreed to the battle.
Three minutes later, the provocateur ran away with a bruised and swollen face, leaving behind a pile of equipment. He slowly picked it up one by one, and then subconsciously glanced at his friend list on the right. As a result, the avatar of the beautiful woman in green went dark again.
Lu Ming's heart skipped a beat. Even a fool could see that the woman was avoiding him. As soon as he logged on, she would hurriedly log off.
The phone was thrown aside with a thud. Lu Ming took a deep breath, feeling a bit angry.
The proud and arrogant girl, who had never been treated like this before, was very unhappy.
Wen Chu wanted to continue playing the game after finishing her meal, but when she logged in, she saw Lu Ming's avatar lit up and showing that he was in battle. She felt nauseous and logged off at lightning speed.
"Why is this guy online so often today? Is it because I'm going to be doing his work soon and he's suddenly bored?" Wen Chu muttered unhappily, tossing down her phone and deciding to avoid him. She planned to take a bath and pamper herself before playing again after he logged off. With that thought in mind, she happily went to the bathroom to run the bathwater.
Lu Ming crossed his arms, leaned against the headboard, and stared at the bed with a gloomy expression, as if he wanted to stare a hole through the gray-white sheets.
After realizing that the other person really wouldn't contact him, he calmed down for a while, then picked up his phone again and sent the person a text message: "Where do you want to go tomorrow?"
This was something they had agreed upon beforehand, and he always keeps his promises, so he offered to do so without any problem.
But after waiting for half an hour, there was still no news.
They were just playing games on their phone, and now they're pretending to be dead and not replying?
Lu Ming closed his eyes, took two deep breaths, and decided to ignore it.
Go if you want, don't go if you don't want to. This is your own choice, I won't send it to you a second time.
He didn't know what Wen Chu was up to, and he didn't want to think about it. He figured it would be best if things just continued like this, so he could have some peace and quiet.
Did she think that just because she did him a huge favor, he should be eternally grateful and treat her like royalty? That was a huge mistake. He was completely unmoved by threats. Business was business, and personal life was personal; their professional collaboration wouldn't affect his private attitude towards her.
He turned on his computer and continued working, no longer intending to focus his attention on unimportant people.
