Chapter 67 A man who knows how to be charming has the best life.
As soon as Wen Chuyi stepped out, she saw her parents still sitting in the living room, seemingly watching the movements in her room. When they saw her come out, they quickly looked away.
"Where's the hangover medicine? I'll get it for him. My dear dad, can you please not hit him so hard?" Wen Chu said, trying to appear calm as she walked down the stairs.
She began to guiltily recall whether she had made a loud noise just now. Surely these two shouldn't have heard it?
Wen Shiyang showed no remorse: "It's in the cabinet. How's that kid?"
"He just grabbed me and confessed his feelings again."
Wen Shiyang: "Tsk."
Yang Lan smiled awkwardly and shook her head.
"I'll linger outside for a bit, and he should fall asleep soon." Wen Chu rummaged through the cabinet and found the medicine.
"That's right. How can we know if he's telling the truth or lying if we don't go all out?"
"So, do you believe it now?"
"It still needs to be observed. You can't easily believe what a man says. You have to evaluate him based on his future performance."
"Alright, then you can investigate this carefully in the future." After taking the medicine, Wen Chu waited for a while, then turned around and went back upstairs.
Wen Shiyang reminded him once again, "Don't do things you shouldn't do!"
“Oh dear,” Wen Chu’s eyes darted around, “He’s in that state, what can he do? You can rest assured.”
Wen Chu poured water and returned to the room. Lu Ming was still awake. He was leaning against the headboard, quiet and dazed. As soon as he heard the door open, his gaze shifted to her.
"Open your mouth." Wen Chu handed him the pill, and Lu Ming obediently opened his mouth and swallowed it without even drinking water.
"Hey! This isn't a good habit!" Wen Chu couldn't stop him in time, but still handed him the water glass. "Since it's already been poured out, drink it."
Lu Ming didn't take it, but held her hand and finished the water in the cup.
Wen Chu subtly curled one corner of her lips into a smile. Even the most aloof woman would feel her heart melt a little upon seeing Lu Ming like this. She put the cup aside, pinched the man's chin, and narrowed her eyes, saying, "I never thought you'd be so obedient to me one day."
Lu Ming tilted his head slightly, his eyes shimmering, his Adam's apple bobbing: "I didn't expect that either."
Looking at Lu Ming's submissive demeanor, Wen Chu's malice resurfaced. She remembered the so-called welfare card from the system; that useless card, she never thought she'd actually find a use for it. She pinched Lu Ming's cheek again, silently reciting the name of the "coquettish card," and soon the system notified her that it had been successfully used.
In an instant, Lu Ming felt his heart become more fragile and sad. Even though Wen Chu was right in front of him, he still felt empty, anxious, and insecure.
He wanted to get closer to people, to get more women's attention, more focus, and more contact.
Suppressed emotions, once expressed, flow out like a floodgate unleashed, lingering for a long time.
Wen Chu was still observing Lu Ming's changes, but after looking for a long time, she couldn't see anything different. She frowned, thinking, "Does letting her pinch and squeeze him mean he's being affectionate?"
As she was thinking, Lu Ming suddenly gripped the hand that was pinching his cheek tightly, as if he was finally about to retaliate. Wen Chu's heart tightened, and she saw the man envelop her hand in his palm, gently stroking it for a moment. Then he took her hand and placed it on his cheek, gently rubbing it against his face.
As Lu Ming did these things, he kept staring at her, his face full of affection, like a large, fluffy dog waiting to be petted.
His breath was hot, and the wine-red on his cheeks had not yet faded but was now tinged with desire. Then, as if releasing his pent-up emotions, he placed a kiss on her palm.
Wen Chu felt a burning sensation in her palm, followed by an itchy feeling that went straight to her heart, quite irritating. Her face flushed, and her fingers involuntarily curled up slightly, trying to pull back but being held tightly and gently pecked again.
The air was filled with a delicate fragrance, and she couldn't help but move closer, reaching out her left hand to ruffle the man's hair. Lu Ming naturally wrapped his other arm around her waist, pulling her closer to the bed. He gently buried his face in her chest for a moment, then looked up at her from below. Although his expression was blank, Wen Chu's heart was stirred once again.
She appeared calm and serious, but her nose was bleeding profusely and her face was burning hot.
This is just too unfair...
My heart was pounding like thunder, spinning wildly like a malfunctioning compass; I almost forgot how to breathe.
This isn't flirting, it's pure seduction!
As soon as Wen Chu sat down on the bed, Lu Ming came up to her again and hugged her affectionately, resting his chin on her shoulder and pleading in a pleasant voice, "Say it again that you like me."
Wen Chu deliberately defied his wishes: "Why? Why don't you say so? I've said it so many times, it's not fair at all."
"I like you." Lu Ming said it decisively, and before she could respond, he repeated it solemnly, "I really like you. Wen Chu, I'm very happy to be with you." Lu Ming rested his forehead on her shoulder, rubbing it against her shoulder gently.
Wen Chu was screaming inwardly, "I can't take it anymore! This man's coquettishness is truly irresistible!!"
She tried hard to keep her smile from looking too lewd, and hugged the other person, pretending to be calm as she asked, "Will you ever fall in love with someone else in the future?"
“Absolutely not. You’re already the biggest surprise in my plan.” Lu Ming looked up at her earnestly.
A smile appeared in Wen Chu's eyes. She leaned closer to him, staring into his drunken eyes, and said seductively, "Then tell me, you belong only to me, and you will never like anyone else."
Lu Ming hesitated for a moment, seemingly finding the lines a bit cheesy and difficult to say.
"Tell me quickly!" Wen Chu frowned and urged.
“I will never fall in love with anyone else.” Lu Ming’s eyes glistened. He paused, and Wen Chu gave him a warning look, telling him not to cut corners. So he slowly added, “Because… I belong only to you.”
Wen Chu smiled with satisfaction, then said seriously, "Also, no matter how many times you forget me, you must fall in love with me again."
Lu Ming frowned: "How could I forget you?"
"Oh, never mind that, just tell me!"
Lu Ming was puzzled. A strange feeling rose in his heart. He remembered the forgetfulness that had happened before. He then tightened his grip on the other person's hand and solemnly made his promise: "Wen Chu, no matter how many times I forget you, I will definitely fall in love with you again."
"Okay, it's settled then." She hooked her little finger with Lu Ming's and made a pinky promise. "The one who doesn't keep their promise will get a slap."
The critical threshold has been breached. Lu Ming will be reset again tonight and will forget some of his memories. The tenderness at this moment is very short-lived, but it doesn't matter. This sentence is Wen Chu's confidence to start over.
Lu Ming hesitated, unwilling to give her his blessing, even though he wasn't entirely clear-headed and was still difficult to fool: "What about you? You only talked about me. What am I supposed to do if you fall for someone else?"
"How could I possibly like anyone else? I can only like you." Wen Chu kissed him on the cheek to show her sincerity.
Lu Ming's expression softened a bit. He was as easy to coax as ever, but he still insisted, "There must be a punishment, otherwise it's not fair."
"Fine, fine, then slap me too?"
Lu Ming frowned in disgust: "I don't hit women."
Wen Chu couldn't help but laugh and continued to tease him, "So what do you want to do?"
Lu Ming looked at their little fingers still hooked together, pondered for a moment, and threatened in a calm tone: "I will lock you up until you fall in love with me again."
Wen Chu didn't take it seriously, since it was impossible anyway. She nodded and agreed, "Sure, it's not like you haven't done it before."
Lu Ming then asked, "What if you forget me?"
Wen Chu thought that dealing with a shrewd man was really not easy. He remembered everything and wouldn't take the slightest loss. She thought for a moment and then said, "Then... then you should try your best to make me remember you. Once I remember you, I will fall in love with you again."
Lu Ming asked doubtfully, "Are you sure?"
Wen Chu raised her chin: "I promise."
Lu Ming lowered his head and smiled, a gentle and content smile he rarely showed. "Okay. It's a deal." He stamped the final seal and then kissed the girl's hand reverently.
He then hugged her tightly and pleaded again, "Say you love me again."
"Okay, okay, I like you, I like you, I like you..."
After drinking too much, Lu Ming was no longer the cold and aloof person he used to be; in fact, he seemed to have lost some of his senses, and Wen Chu, influenced by him, also became quite childish. They cuddled together like elementary school students for a while, then, feeling a bit tired, lay down again.
Wen Chu lay in the other man's arms, her head resting on his chest, quietly listening to the rhythmic beating of Lu Ming's heart. She felt a long-lost sense of peace in her heart, but ripples occasionally spread across the calm surface of this lake.
She stared intently at the lush green leaves swaying gently in the breeze outside the window. The bright, scorching afternoon sun bathed everything in a golden glow, illuminating the room while the thick glass kept the heat out.
The indoor air conditioning was on, making it warm and comfortable, and everything seemed so peaceful and beautiful.
It's so beautiful that you want to stop time and savor it frame by frame, second by second.
People often become anxious and fearful when they are very close to happiness, feeling apprehensive and anxious because they are afraid of missing out on such precious moments.
They nestled together quietly, inhaling each other's scent, and slept soundly.
When she woke up again, it was already four o'clock in the afternoon. Wen Chu stirred in the man's arms, while Lu Ming was still asleep, probably because of the alcohol.
She had never slept so soundly since she was brought into this world.
She stared at his sleeping face for a while, a gentle sense of pleasure welling up in her heart. It was still hard to believe that she had genuinely found a boyfriend in this absurd world.
Does this mean she's finally overcoming her lifelong single status? I guess so.
The person in front of me has warmth, joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. They can fall asleep after drinking too much and even act cute. How real they are!
In him, Wen Chu truly felt loved, and that was enough.
She had planned to go downstairs to keep her parents company and let him sleep a little longer to sober up before waking him up for dinner. However, as soon as she removed his arm from her waist, Lu Ming woke up, as if she had disturbed his comfortable environment.
He slowly opened his eyes, his brow furrowing slightly, clearly still not fully awake, but his hands instinctively tightened their embrace around her.
Wen Chu said softly, "I've had enough sleep. Why don't you sleep a little longer? Are you still feeling dizzy?"
Lu Ming stared at her, his gaze somewhat unfocused. It took him a while to focus his attention on her face, but he remained silent, simply looking at her.
Wen Chu shook him: "Are you still half asleep?"
That feeling of not being able to distinguish between reality and dreams returned.
It took Lu Ming a while to finally come to his senses: "It feels like I had a very long dream, my head hurts." But then he added, "It's okay, I'll be fine in a bit."
He kissed Wen Chu on the forehead, sat up and got out of bed, his voice a little hoarse: "I'm going to take a shower. I can't stay upstairs without seeing anyone."
"Okay, I'll go down first."
When Wen Chu stepped out of the room, the two elders were enjoying their leisurely afternoon. Wen Shiyang was sitting in the living room arranging his tea set, brewing tea while wiping his collection of antiques.
At this moment, he was holding the string-patterned bottle that Lu Ming had just given him. When he saw her arrive, he quickly put it down, carefully placed it in the box, and set it aside with an air of superiority. Then he coughed and said in a serious tone, "Finally, you've come down."
Seeing this, Wen Chu chuckled and said, "I wanted to take a nap, but I accidentally slept until now. He'll get ready and come down right away."
“I didn’t ask him.”
Wen Chu pursed her lips, said "Oh," and then asked, "Where's my mom?"
"I write in my study every afternoon without fail."
Wen Chu floated up to Wen Shiyang, picked up the tea that had just been brewed, took a sip, and pretended to savor it carefully.
Wen Shiyang looked at her, a hint of anticipation in his eyes, and asked, "How was it? Not bad, right?"
Wen Chu gave a drawn-out "hmm," nodded thoughtfully, and said, "It's a bit bitter."
Wen Shiyang rolled his eyes at her and snatched the cup from her hand. "I knew it! Asking you is pointless! You have no taste! Go away! Taking a sip is a waste of my money!"
Wen Chu snorted and delivered the final blow: "Yours is not even as good as the five-yuan tea bags I buy outside."
"You don't know anything!"
Wen Chu floated over to the sofa, picked up the porcelain vase Lu Ming had given her, and examined it closely. "It's really quite beautiful."
"You better watch out! Don't break it!" Wen Shiyang stared at her nervously, afraid she might do something bad. Wen Chu gave him a wicked smile, deliberately holding the porcelain vase above her head with both hands, as if she was about to drop it!
Wen Shiyang was so frightened that he stood up: "You unfilial son! Put it down right now!"
"Hahahaha. If it breaks, I'll have Lu Ming buy you another one."
"You've got quite the nerve. Can you really get those Song Dynasty artisans to make an exact replica for me? Every piece of art is a priceless treasure!"
As they talked, Lu Ming, having dried his hair and tidied himself up, came downstairs. Wen Chu waved to him, "Come here quickly, my dad wants you to try the tea he brewed!"
Wen Shiyang glared at his daughter, then looked at Lu Ming who was walking over and asked in a relatively gentle manner, "Are you sober now?"
Lu Ming nodded: "He's almost awake."
"Your alcohol tolerance is really good. Most people would need to sleep for a whole day to recover."
Lu Ming smiled modestly.
As they were talking, Wen Chu poured a cup from the teapot and handed it to Lu Ming, saying, "Here, see if it tastes good."
Wen Shiyang frowned at her improper operation. "You have to use a strainer first, and then let it cool for half a minute to make it smell good! Who pours it directly from the pot!"
"Oh, almost, almost." Wen Chu said evasively, and let Lu Ming drink it. Lu Ming glanced at her without leaving a trace, and took a sip from her hand.
Seeing the two of them being so lovey-dovey, Wen Shiyang rolled his eyes slightly and turned his head back.
Lu Ming's Adam's apple bobbed, but he didn't speak immediately. Wen Chu asked leisurely, "How is it? Is it very bitter and a bit astringent?"
Unexpectedly, Lu Ming betrayed her, commenting earnestly, "Pure aroma, long-lasting aftertaste, refreshing and slightly astringent taste, is this Zijuan?"
Wen Shiyang's eyes lit up: "That's right, it's Zijuan. You know about tea, kid?"
Lu Ming shook his head modestly and said, "My dad is also quite interested in tea. I've had some tea a few times when I played chess with him. I just remember the taste; I wouldn't call myself an expert."
Wen Chu punched him in the back, "How dare you betray me!"
Lu Ming glanced at her with a hint of helplessness.
"This isn't fun. I haven't finished watering the flowers in my courtyard yet. I'll take him to water the flowers. You can enjoy yourselves here!"
Wen Shiyang: "Let's go! This buzzing is giving me a headache!"
Lu Ming glanced at Wen Shiyang as a greeting, then was pulled away by Wen Chu.
Walking into the garden, Wen Chu punched the man: "Damn it, you got the act!"
"I haven't even blamed you for getting me into this mess yet." Lu Ming gave him a resentful look. "Other people's girlfriends try their best to show their parents how good their son-in-law is, but you dug a pit for me."
"Isn't that what makes you successful? You really can tell by taste? I feel like all teas are pretty much the same. If you add fruit, I can barely taste the difference."
"Of course not, I only remembered it when I saw the box on the table."
"Damn it!" Wen Chu's eyes widened. "You cheated! I'm going to tell on you!" She made a move to go back.
"You dare." Lu Ming hugged her from behind, stopping her in her tracks. "I reasonably suspect you're retaliating against me."
"You betrayed me! You should be on my side!"
"Of course I have to make a good impression on your dad."
They were cuddling when they suddenly heard a cough. They saw that the window of the study across the street was open, and Yang Lan, wearing glasses and holding a calligraphy brush, glanced at them, her meaning clear without a word.
Wen Chu felt instantly mortified and broke free from Lu Ming's embrace, standing ramrod straight.
How come everything they do is so easily discovered!
Lu Ming lowered his head and smoothed the hair in front of his forehead to hide his embarrassment.
"You two seem to have a lot of free time, come and grind the powder for me!"
"Okay, okay, I'll be right there." Wen Chu rubbed the back of her neck, and the two of them shoved each other as they went to the study.
