Chapter 271: What do you remember?

The doctor checked Bella’s vitals. "Is there any pain?"

Bella nodded. "Yes, I feel pain in my head, but it’s not unbearable." She paused, her voice turning urgent. "Doctor..." Her eyes, filled with uncertainty, met his. "I want to see my parents."

"We’ve already informed them. They will be here soon." He studied her carefully before speaking again. "Now, tell me—do you remember anything about the accident? How did you get hurt?"

Bella’s brows furrowed as she tried to grasp at the hazy fragments in her mind, but all she could recall was Zack taking her away. Everything after that was a blur, like a dream slipping through her fingers before she could hold onto it.

"I don’t know." She shook her head. "I don’t remember how the accident happened. When I woke up, I found myself in a small room. That man, Zack—he claimed he was my fiancé. He even showed me photographs of our engagement." Her throat tightened. "But I don’t remember anything."

"You don’t remember him." The doctor arched an eyebrow. "You don’t remember your engagement with him."

"No...I don’t remember a thing."

"What do you remember?" the doctor pressed.

Bella’s expression turned grim, her lips pressed tight. "I-I don’t know. I have some blurry visions," she whispered, her gaze drifting to the opposite wall.

Shadows of memory flickered in her mind—She had seen a man in her dream. But the image was murky, slipping away the harder she tried to grasp it.

That man seemed to be close to her. But she couldn’t tell if it was Zack or someone else.

"What did you see?" the doctor prompted cautiously.

"I don’t know what it is," Bella murmured, lost in thought.

"Do you remember your name?"

Bella hesitated before answering, "It’s... Rose, according to Zack."

"I see." A flicker of understanding crossed the doctor’s face as he processed her words.

Bella’s fingers clutched the blanket, her breath unsteady. "Doctor," she looked at him worriedly, "why can’t I remember anything about myself?"

The thought of losing her identity—of not knowing who she truly was—sent a wave of unease crashing over her.

The doctor’s expression was calm yet serious. "Because of the accident, your brain suffered an injury. Your condition worsened due to the lack of proper medical care," he explained gently. "Now, you are experiencing amnesia. But don’t worry. Your memories aren’t lost forever. With time, you may recall everything. Just try not to stress yourself. Look around, take in your surroundings, and see if you can remember anything."

He offered her a reassuring smile. "For now, just rest. If you need anything, press the button." With that, he turned and left the room, leaving Bella alone with her swirling thoughts.

She sighed, sinking into the pillows, unease tightening in her chest. The only thing she could cling to was the hope that seeing her parents might bring back something—anything.

"Why are they not here yet?" she wondered impatiently.

Outside the room, Theodore and Willow had been waiting anxiously. The moment the doctor stepped out, they rushed toward him, their faces tense with worry.

Theodore asked, "Is she okay?"

The doctor gave a small nod. "She is stable now. Her injuries have healed well, and she can be discharged soon." But then he hesitated before adding, "However, she is suffering from amnesia." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Theodore’s chest tightened. He had already sensed it—the way Bella had looked at him as if he were a stranger. But hearing it confirmed only deepened the ache inside him. "Is there any chance she’ll remember?"

"There is hope," the doctor replied. "Familiar surroundings, people, and gentle reminders of the past can help her regain her memory. It may take time, but it’s possible. Don’t lose hope." He gave Theodore’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze before walking away.

Theodore remained still, his mind heavy with emotions. Pain, longing, and uncertainty swirled within him—but amid the darkness, a flicker of hope refused to die. If there was even the slightest chance that Bella would remember him, he would hold onto it with everything he had.

"Theo, are you okay?" Willow’s gentle voice pulled him from his thoughts. He blinked, turning to look at her, but the heaviness in his eyes remained.

"Don’t be discouraged," she said softly. "Bella will remember, little by little. Maybe being in her hometown—where she grew up—will help her heal. And maybe...her designs will help her remember something."

"Designs?" Theodore mused aloud.

Willow nodded, stretching her lips into a hopeful smile. "Bella was so passionate about her work. She may have forgotten the people and events of her past, but her skills? Those are a part of her, ingrained in her soul. Creativity isn’t something that disappears—it’s instinctive. If she starts working again, it might awaken something buried deep inside her. You should motivate her to start working."

Willow’s suggestion was promising, but instead of excitement, Theodore’s expression darkened. A deep sense of despair clutched at his heart.

"She doesn’t want to see me," he said, sadness evident in his voice.

Willow’s smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly steadied herself. She wouldn’t let his pain drag them both into hopelessness.

"That’s okay," she reassured him. "Give her space. Don’t go in front of her for now. In the meantime, I’ll try to get close to her. I’ll remind her of her talent—of the things that once brought her happiness. Maybe we can become friends again. And when she starts trusting me, you can see her again."

Theodore stared at her, torn between pain and hope. After a moment, he nodded. "Then do that. I’ll watch over her from a distance. I won’t go near her until she is ready for me."

The thought of staying away from Bella cut him deeply, but if giving her space was what she needed to find her way back to him, he would endure it. For now, all he could do was wait—and hope.

The tense atmosphere shifted the moment Alex and Selena arrived at the hospital. Their presence interrupted the conversation.

Theodore stiffened. Unease crept into his expression, his jaw tightening. Ever since his argument with Philip, he had been keeping his distance from Bella’s family. Now, facing them again, a storm of emotions swirled within him.

"I have some matters to attend to at the office," he murmured, turning to Willow. His tone was calm, but there was an underlying urgency in his words. "I’ll leave first. Call me if there is anything."

Before Alex or Selena could say a word, Theodore strode away in a hurry.
