Chapter 80: Weird
Zhou Cheng brought his mother to the gate of an upscale residential complex, where security guards were already lining up to welcome them.
"The security in your friend's neighborhood is pretty good." Cheng Muxi exclaimed when he saw so many security guards in front of the door.
Zhou Cheng didn't say anything. His heart was pounding as he drove the car in. He didn't know what tricks Su Qingyan would arrange next. Then he saw a figure walking towards him from a distance.
After the car stopped, Zhou Cheng got out and moved to the back seat. Su Qingyan immediately understood and sat in the driver's seat.
"Hello, Auntie. I just got back from get off work." Su Qingyan drove the car towards the villa area.
"Xiao Su, do you live here? This community is not cheap, right?" Cheng Muxi asked him as he looked at the community's nice greenery and supporting facilities.
"My family bought it for me. Zhou Cheng was injured and it was inconvenient for him to stay, so I asked him to come and live with me. Zhou Cheng, it's been almost a month, isn't it time for a checkup?" Su Qingyan deliberately asked Zhou Cheng. He knew that Zhou Cheng's family must not know that he came back injured.
"You've been injured for a month?" Cheng Muxi looked panicked and turned to ask Zhou Cheng.
"Yeah." Zhou Cheng avoided looking at his mother.
"During the Chinese New Year..."
"It's nothing serious." Zhou Cheng interrupted his mother. He looked at Su Qingyan angrily and found that he was also looking at him in the rearview mirror.
"Zhou Cheng, you can't say that. Your department director gave you such a long leave because he wanted you to recuperate. He didn't even let you go to the hospital for the lecture this afternoon. You can't ignore your injury just because you are a doctor. You are not Superman." Su Qingyan ignored Zhou Cheng's threatening eyes and continued.
Cheng Muxi recalled everything that happened during the New Year holidays, and her eyes became redder and redder. Finally, she turned away, not daring to look at Zhou Cheng again.
Su Qingyan watched the mood changes of the mother and son, feeling very proud. He wanted to put Zhou Cheng at the top of his heart every day. He really couldn't stand the attitude of Zhou Cheng's family towards him. Now he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
"Don't worry, Auntie. Zhou Cheng lives with me now. I can take care of him."
"How can a young man like you take care of him?" Cheng Muxi said in a muffled voice.
"Auntie, don't you know Zhou Cheng? He's so stubborn and cares about his reputation. If he didn't tell you, how could he possibly tell other ladies? I'm different. I won't hide anything from my good friends." Su Qingyan suddenly had an idea and added, "If you don't believe me, ask Xiao Han. He knows too."
Zhou Cheng was also stunned. When did Su Qingyan know that he went to Xiao Han to exchange medicine? Wasn't she still jealous? Why did she drag Xiao Han into this...
"No wonder Xiaohan stayed to help move things...how come you, kid..." Cheng Muxi choked again.
The three of them were silent for a while, and Su Qingyan quietly drove the car into the garage, giving Mother Zhou enough time to digest these things.
Cheng Muxi really needed some time to digest this. The sight of all the luxury cars in the garage made her jaw drop.
Zhou Cheng had never been to Su Qingyan's house. It seemed that he had lived here before.
"Auntie, the last time I went to your house, I saw that you and uncle both liked drinking tea. I happen to have some good tea at home. You can try it later. I don't drink it much, so I can't taste anything special." Su Qingyan got out of the car to open the door for Mother Zhou, then took her arm and talked to her as they walked towards the gate.
Seeing how affectionate they were, Zhou Cheng muttered to himself that Su Qingyan was really good at dealing with elders, and followed them.
"Master, you are back." The door was opened and Aunt Su stood at the door to greet them.
"Aunt Liu, is the stewed rock sugar and snow pear ready? Zhou Cheng still has a slight cough."
Zhou Cheng had seen this aunt before. She was the one who delivered meals to Su Qingyan when she was in the hospital.
Auntie smiled kindly at Zhou Cheng and said that the food had been stewed a long time ago and was just waiting for them to come back.
Cheng Muxi called Zhou Cheng aside while he was washing his hands.
"This Xiao Su...didn't he say his hometown is in Xinghai and he just graduated and started working in Mincheng?"
"Yes, his family is in business." Zhou Cheng didn't say much.
"Where are you hurt?" Cheng Muxi asked again.
"I had a minor surgery on my back, minimally invasive."
Cheng Muxi covered his mouth after hearing this.
"Your father that day—"
"Just change the medicine." Zhou Cheng didn't want to mention what happened that day anymore.
"Where did you get hurt? How did you get hurt? Why didn't you tell your family about such a serious thing?"
Cheng Muxi took a step forward to lift his clothes, and Zhou Cheng took a step to the side to avoid her.
"It happened when I was on a business trip in the United States. You know how chaotic it is there, and I was accidentally injured while waiting for the flight at the airport." Zhou Cheng said this, half true and half false.
"Is everyone else okay? Didn't you go with the director? How is he?" Cheng Muxi couldn't complain anymore when he heard that he was injured on duty.
"Everyone else is fine. Although the security there is bad, the medical conditions are top-notch. The operation went smoothly and there are no sequelae. I didn't tell anyone because it involves the hospital leaders and some higher-level relationships, which is a bit sensitive." Zhou Cheng felt that his excuse was perfect and had shut his mother's mouth tightly.
"If anything happens in the future, don't handle it alone. We are here for you. After all, we are..." Cheng Muxi said with a sob.
"Let's go and take a look at Xiao Su's collection of tea. I haven't even tasted it." Zhou Cheng didn't want his mother to continue this topic, so he took her to the tea room.
"Auntie, look at these tea cakes. I don't quite understand them." Su Qingyan took out all the fine tea from the bottom of the box. "Uncle, do you like the two bottles of wine I asked Zhou Cheng to get? Zhou Cheng, you are really something. You finally get to go home for the New Year, but you don't stay home for a few more days. You are not allowed to go to work, but you run to the lab to write a paper. Aren't you tired?"
Cheng Muxi nodded and said she liked it, then kept looking down at the tea cakes.
Zhou Cheng gently tugged at Su Qingyan's sleeve, signaling him to stop talking. He knew that Su Qingyan had been holding his anger and had no place to vent it, and now he finally found the opportunity, so he kept being sarcastic.
Su Qingyan personally made tea for them, and Aunt Liu also brought up candied pears with some snacks.
Su Qingyan was chatting with Cheng Muxi, and the content kept revolving around how hard-working and motivated Zhou Cheng was at work in Mincheng and how much his parents liked him.
Cheng Muxi had always thought Zhou Cheng had always been indifferent to everyone, disliked socializing, and enjoyed being alone. She hadn't expected him to be so close to Su Qingyan's parents now, which made her feel like her son had been stolen. After drinking tea, she returned to her bedroom with a heavy heart.
"Why are you talking so much today?" Zhou Cheng followed Su Qingyan to the house and locked the door.
"When am I not talkative?" Su Qingyan hung on Zhou Cheng.
"Now my mother must think that I ran away to your house to be your son." Zhou Cheng reached out and hugged Su Qingyan, smelling the pleasant scent on his neck.
"Aren't you the good son of our Su family?" Su Qingyan said with a smile.
"Taking advantage of me again?" Zhou Cheng patted his butt lightly.
"Zhou Cheng, you should communicate more with your family. They are not unreasonable parents." Su Qingyan felt that Zhou Cheng was top-notch in other aspects, but his mouth was not even standard. He never said anything and kept everything in his heart.
"There's no need. What's the point of telling them? They won't listen." Zhou Cheng let go of Su Qingyan.
"Look, you're like this again. Can't I even mention it?" Su Qingyan held his hand again. "It's a good thing that she can come. Just let it penetrate slowly. There's no rush."
"Um."
Zhou Cheng hugged Su Qingyan and turned around to wash up.
Su Qingyan felt distressed again when he saw his lonely back. He had to find someone to learn how to come out to his feudal parents with the least loss.
