Chapter 17 Finding the Cause

Chapter 17 Finding the Cause

After arriving at the hospital, Zhou Cheng followed Lu Ze to the special care ward. After Zhou Cheng entered the ward, which was decorated like a star-rated hotel, he saw Su Qingyan's face, which looked very sick.

Feng Junchi was a little surprised when he saw Zhou Cheng coming in wearing a white coat.

When did he start working in this hospital?

He Zhu glanced at him, and he immediately packed up his documents quickly and prepared to get up and leave.

Zhou Cheng nodded slightly at Feng Junchi and walked quickly to Su Qingyan.

Ever since Zhou Cheng walked in, Su Qingyan's eyes had been on him. He himself didn't understand why he had such a strong sense of dependence on someone he had just met, as if the person who had just calmly drafted the will was not himself. Seeing Zhou Cheng's anxious and worried eyes, the pillar of support he had been holding on to suddenly collapsed. His lips trembled as if he wanted to say something, but nothing came out.

"Lie down." Zhou Cheng reached out to Su Qingyan's cheek, and his fingertips touched the skin at the corner of his eye.

Su Qingyan didn't expect Zhou Cheng to be like this, and his eyes were covered with a layer of mist.

"Why are your hands so cold?"

Zhou Cheng paused for a moment. After being reminded by Su Qingyan, he realized that he had run out without changing his clothes. He wanted to pull his hand away, but Su Qingyan held it.

The other people present really didn't want to continue watching these two people venting their emotions as if no one was around, so they quietly left the ward.

"Let me see." Zhou Cheng gently propped up Su Qingyan's eyelids with his fingers. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the white sclera, then rubbed his hands together and said, "Curl up your legs."

Su Qingyan was puzzled, but did as he was told. When Zhou Cheng's slightly cool palm touched the skin of his upper abdomen, he still shuddered slightly.

"Does it hurt?" Zhou Cheng asked.

Su Qingyan shook her head, watching Zhou Cheng's slender and bony hands pressing on her stomach. The hairs on her body stood up, and many inappropriate pictures appeared in her mind. If she hadn't been sick, everyone would have stood up by now.

"Did you do any tests when you felt unwell?" Zhou Cheng put down his hospital gown and covered him with a blanket.

"Yeah." Su Qingyan saw that Zhou Cheng's face had returned to its serious look, as if he had misread the worried look just now.

"Have you done any blood tests, routine blood tests or something like that?" Zhou Cheng asked again.

"Just a few days ago, I had a hepatitis test and everything was fine." Su Qingyan answered vaguely.

Why do you need to test for infectious diseases if you have nothing to do?

Zhou Cheng stared at Su Qingyan's watery eyes, trying to see what he was thinking.

"Rest in bed, I'll go ask the doctor." Zhou Cheng said and went out.

The three people standing in the corridor didn't expect Zhou Cheng to come out so quickly. Zhou Cheng didn't stop and went straight to the doctor's office.

The doctor in the office was stunned when he saw Zhou Cheng.

Come for a consultation

"Who's in charge of Su Qingyan?" Zhou Cheng asked directly.

"Oh, the director is in charge. He is in the office next door. I'll take you to find him." After the doctor on duty saw the name of the hospital on the chest of Zhou Cheng's white coat, he thought he was a big shot invited by the director and hurriedly took him over.

"Director, a doctor from the First Affiliated Hospital wants to know about Mr. Su's condition." The doctor on duty whispered in the director's ear.

The director glanced at Zhou Cheng's name tag.

Hey, isn’t this Zhou Cheng who published an article on CELL a few days ago? He is Lao Li’s favorite student.

Zhou Cheng looked through Su Qingyan's test results, his brow furrowing ever deeper. He had initially thought it was an Epstein-Barr virus or cytomegalovirus infection, with cold symptoms and liver damage, but now all the tests were negative, and even the liver MRI showed no problems.

"Medicinal liver," Zhou Cheng whispered, then looked up at the director, "Excuse me, Director. I came a little hurriedly. Su Qingyan is my friend, so please take care of her."

It was quite a rush, and I even wore the Crocs from the operating room straight out.

"Xiao Zhou, ask him if he has any history of drug exposure. If we can't find the cause, we'll have to do a liver biopsy."

The director nodded and indicated that he could go back.

After coming out of the director's office, Zhou Cheng's heart finally settled down. It wasn't too good, nor too bad. This disease could only be cured slowly, and there was no rush.

"Doctor Zhou, you are being transferred to another job." Feng Junchi met Zhou Cheng in the corridor when he was leaving.

"No." Zhou Cheng didn't want to tell him too much.

"Well, you are busy. See you again when there is a chance." Feng Junchi switched to holding the briefcase in his left hand and shook hands with Zhou Cheng.

When Zhou Cheng returned to the ward, Su Qingyan had returned to normal, and the fragile expression he had just shown was completely gone.

"Where are they?" Zhou Cheng saw that he was the only one in the ward.

"Let's go back. It's annoying just looking at it." Su Qingyan looked at the big bag of potion, which seemed like it would take a whole day to finish.

"You don't have to force yourself to eat if you have no appetite. This liquid is enough for your energy needs for the day. Get more rest and you will get better slowly." Zhou Cheng patted him on the shoulder.

"Doctor Zhou, am I going to suffer from liver failure?" Su Qingyan felt that he could not believe what others said.

"It's not that serious yet. Don't overthink it." Zhou Cheng paused. "When you were getting the injection at my place a few days ago, I should have done some tests on you. I shouldn't have treated you based on experience."

"What does this have to do with you? Why are you taking the responsibility on yourself?" Su Qingyan didn't expect Zhou Cheng to think this way, and then she felt that she liked him more.

"The cause of your disease is unclear at the moment. They have checked everything they can. If the condition progresses further, a liver biopsy will be needed next. Tell me the truth, have you touched anything you shouldn't have touched recently?" Zhou Cheng placed his hand on his shoulder and pressed gently.

"So I am that kind of person in your heart." Su Qingyan lowered her eyes and stopped looking at him.

"Xiao Su, we are just looking for the cause of the disease. We didn't say anything about you." Zhou Cheng also felt that he was being abrupt.

When Su Qingyan heard the slightly apologetic "Xiao Su", his heartbeat accelerated. In fact, he knew very well that all the abnormalities started from the drinking party that night.

"Doctor Zhou, would this happen if I just took a puff of cigarette?" He said after hesitating for a long time.

"What cigarettes?" Zhou Cheng's face turned grim.

"Someone gave it to me. After I took it, I felt something was wrong. I thought I had drunk too much. After that, I didn't remember anything."

Zhou Cheng stood up straight, crossed his arms and looked at Su Qingyan carefully. He didn't know what kind of entertainment activities these second-generation rich boys did, but if Su Qingyan had anything to do with drugs, he would leave immediately without hesitation.

"Usually you—"

"Absolutely not, don't misunderstand..." Su Qingyan saw Zhou Cheng's sudden alienation and sat up to pull his arm. "I really don't want to die so early, especially after meeting you."

"Have you told the doctor about this?" Zhou Cheng automatically blocked out the second half of his sentence.

"No." Su Qingyan saw that he still had a serious expression, so she used a little force to pull his arm. "Doctor Zhou, you can't not give me a chance. I've even quit smoking now."

"Let's talk about it when you get better." Zhou Cheng felt soft-hearted when he saw his pitiful look.
