Chapter 51

Self-narration: Zhao Ya

My name is Zhao Ya, and I have lived in this world for twenty-five years. I have a pretty face and a well-proportioned figure. I have a postgraduate degree, a powerful family behind me, and a childhood sweetheart.

I thought I would live a happy and carefree life. Yes, I thought...

When the zombie virus broke out, I was planning our future with my lover, but everything happened too suddenly...

I clearly remember that day on campus, he took me to the rooftop, and we both had high fevers. Fortunately, no zombies found us, and we woke up the next day.

I looked at the water flowing from my hands in horror, and he was also stunned by the lightning emanating from him. But even though his face was pale with fear, he still comforted me in a gentle voice.

He said, "Xiaoya, it's okay, it's okay, don't be afraid..."

His hands were shaking as he patted my back.

I called my family, and it took several tries before the call finally connected. It was my father who answered, but his words stunned me. "Xiaoya, what superpower have you awakened?"

"What...what superpower? Water, I can conjure..."

Before I could finish my sentence, the person on the other end hung up. I called again, but no matter how many times I tried, I couldn't get through.

He also called his family, and I heard it. When he mentioned the thunder and lightning, the person on the other end of the phone said that they would send someone to pick him up. He said he wanted to take me with him, but a clear rejection came from the other end.

I panicked, watching the zombies fighting below, and grabbed the corner of his clothes, but no matter how much he begged, the other side refused...

I was in despair, covering my face and crying softly. Why...why did the world become like this overnight...

"Then you don't need to come."

He hung up the phone, threw the phone aside, and pulled me into the bad room. "Don't worry, I will never abandon you."

We escaped from the campus safely. He found a radio station in the store, and the information coming out of it made me even more scared. The whole world had become like this.

I was pregnant at the time, so he found a house for me to stay in while he went out to find food.

I understand that I can only be like this now. Every time he goes out, I stare at the door in fear, afraid that he will not come back. One day after he went out, I felt a stomach cramp - premature birth.

This word suddenly appeared in my mind. Without thinking too much, I walked towards the basement tremblingly. My amniotic fluid broke and blood kept flowing out. I didn't dare to stop because the blood would attract zombies. I had to get into the basement quickly.

The sound of zombies knocking on the door could be heard. The moment after entering the basement, the door was broken open and countless zombies rushed in.

Fortunately, the basement can be entered by opening the mezzanine in the floor, and the zombies will not open it, otherwise she would have to wait for death.

The pain in my stomach was getting worse and worse. I took the tape I had prepared long ago and taped the gap little by little, trying to minimize the sound.

After doing all this, I lay down in the bathtub. I had no strength left. His figure appeared in my mind. He said, wait for him to come back.

I opened my eyes, used up my last bit of strength, and begged silently in my heart, child, come out.

Two cries were heard along with the zombies' roars. After a long time, the zombies outside had dispersed for a long time. Only a few zombies near the basement heard the cries and were unwilling to leave.

I was lying in the bathtub holding my child, covered in blood and sweat, looking miserable. As a young lady who used to have obsessive-compulsive disorder, I didn't feel the slightest bit disgusted. The roar of the zombies outside stopped, and the door to the basement was hurriedly opened. I knew he was back.

When he saw me, he seemed to be relieved. He hurried forward to hug me and kissed the corners of my eyes, not caring about the dirtiness of my body after giving birth.

He washed me clean and told me that after I recovered, I would go to the base in City B, which was a large base. Once there, he would no longer have to worry about my safety when he went out to look for food.

But I made a decision that made me regret for the rest of my life. I told him that we should leave the next day and go there early, and that I would be fine.

At my insistence, he agreed, but I didn't expect that on the day we left, we would encounter a zombie tide...

Because of the long delay, the second child was born with oxygen deprivation and weak physical condition, but at the same time he was not noisy.

The eldest child loved to cry, and his voice attracted too many zombies. He put the second child in my arms, said nothing, just rubbed my head, and rushed out with the crying child.

I hid there, tears streaming down my face. I didn't cry because I knew he wanted me to protect the child, but he also wanted me to abandon the child and save myself in times of crisis.

I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Cheng when I was being chased by zombies. I would not abandon his child and me. I went through a lot with them, and they made me understand a lot since I had been taken care of since the end of the world. But in the end, I still couldn't escape death.

That woman made a card with my blood and I bled to death. What a tragic loss...

Fortunately, my child can control zombies. The fat and thin children turned into zombies. I secretly threw my child to them. The last time I saw my child before he was taken away, I saw my child sitting safely in their arms, crying towards me helplessly.

Don't cry, my child. Mom is going to see your father and brother. It's just... it will be hard for you...

I once imagined wearing a white gauze dress and entrusting my life to him. Under the warm sunset, I danced among the flowers full of white roses, the hem of my skirt swaying slightly with my movements. He smiled and watched my dance, announcing to the world that I was worthy of him.

I am not afraid of death, because I know that the end of life is death, and the end of death is him. He must have been waiting for me for a long time...
