The postmaster was sleeping soundly like a dead pig, with his artificial leg lying on the ground at his feet.
Yanran quietly took the key off the wall and tried to leave. After hesitating for a moment, she leaned over and hugged Yicheng's artificial leg in her arms.
Zhao Huan was bored waiting downstairs in the post station. He saw Princess Yanran looking around as she came down the stairs holding a prosthetic leg, her subconscious mind acting like a thief. She looked as funny as it could be.
Zhao Huan almost laughed to death: "You, haha, you really stole this prosthetic leg? Hahahaha..."
Princess Yanran was stunned for a moment: "Didn't you say that in order to escape from here, I would need a key, a prosthetic leg, and a written order?"
"My legs! My legs! Where are my legs? Where have my legs gone?" Suddenly, Zhu Chengen's anxious shouts came from upstairs. He opened the door and walked out, jumping on one leg.
Zhao Huan did not mention in his plan that the princess stole his artificial leg. After the princess left, he opened his eyes and saw that his artificial leg was gone.
The princess would definitely not take her own leg out of boredom, otherwise there must be a thief.
This leg was custom-made for him by skilled craftsmen from the Armaments Administration. There is no other prosthetic leg in the world as perfect as this one, yet it was stolen.
Zhao Huan quickly pushed Princess Yanran down and hid under the bushes. Zhao Huan chuckled quietly as he said, "Actually, all we need is the key and the imperial edict. The artificial leg was just a joke I played on you."
"Are you kidding?" Princess Yanran opened her eyes wide, and it was obvious that she was a little angry: "Do you know how much effort I put into stealing it? I almost got caught, don't you know?"
Princess Yanran was still holding the fake leg tightly, looking ridiculous. Zhao Huan tugged at her, then pointed at Zhu Chengen who was jumping upstairs: "Don't you find it funny that he's jumping around on one leg? I asked you to steal this because I wanted to see him hopping around on one leg. Haha..."
"You!" Princess Yanran was furious. She looked up and saw that the postmaster was jumping back and forth on one leg looking for his artificial leg. It was really funny. She couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Zhao Huan used all his strength to throw the artificial leg into the grass in the distance with a plop, then dragged Princess Yanran and ran wildly.
Zhu Chengen finally found his artificial leg, and he also found the escaped Zhao Huan and Princess Yanran.
"Linghu Yunlong! You bastard, you stole my leg. Don't run, I know you, I know who you are!" Zhu Chengen shouted angrily.
He wanted to chase, but he couldn't catch up with her on one foot. Even though he was a martial arts expert, he wasn't sure if he could just jump from the building, because the cushioning power of one foot was questionable.
Zhao Huan and Princess Yanran had already rushed to the gate. He took out the key and opened the gate.
To avoid misunderstandings, there were no guards inside the post station. All guards were stationed outside the post station, so Princess Yanran had tried everything to escape but couldn't.
When the two men came out, the guards came up to them and said, "Who are you? You are not allowed to leave the post station in the middle of the night!"
Zhao Huan took out the imperial edict and token and said, "I am Linghu Yunlong, the imperial guard. I am here to bring the princess into the palace under the imperial edict of His Majesty. Who dares to stop me?"
The guard took the token and the letter and looked at them. He hurriedly bowed and said, "It's you, sir. I'm sorry, please come in!"
Zhao Huan led Princess Yanran out of the post station, and the two ran all the way. After an unknown amount of time, they lay on the ground, gasping for air.
"Thank you, thank you." Princess Yanran said.
"Don't thank me, I'll take you into the palace." Zhao Huan stood up and said.
Bianjing was bustling, even though it was late at night. There were still people on the streets and shops were still open.
Zhao Huan pulled Princess Yanran to sit in front of a stall and said, "Shopkeeper, give me a bowl of tofu pudding."
The aroma of tofu pudding filled the air. It was a flavor Princess Yanran had never tasted before: "What is this? It smells so good."
Zhao Huan pushed the bowl in front of her: "Try it, how does it taste?"
The tofu pudding was smooth and refreshing. Princess Yanran couldn't help but exclaim: "It's delicious, even better than our kimchi."
Zhao Huan smiled and said, "We have much more delicious food in the Song Dynasty. It's not convenient to enter the palace now. I will take you in after daybreak."
Zhao Huan and Princess Yanran were walking on the street. The sky began to lighten in the east.
As usual, they entered the palace through a side door. Zhao Huan had planned to take Princess Yanran for a tour around the palace, then tell her that the emperor was not there and send her back. However, he never expected that problems would arise after entering the palace.
As Zhao Huan entered through the side door, a eunuch hurried in and knelt down, saying, "Eunuch Cao has an urgent matter in the Wende Hall. Your Majesty, please take care of it immediately."
Princess Yanran looked at him in surprise: "Your Majesty? You, you are!..."
Zhao Huan didn't bother to explain to her: "Quick! Wende Hall!"
What was the most urgent matter that made Cao Dongsheng send someone to inform him without even revealing Zhao Huan's identity?
Zhao Huan already knew it when he arrived at Wende Hall.
The four regents had been waiting for a long time. As soon as Zhao Huan entered the Wende Hall, they didn't bother to perform the proper etiquette between monarch and minister. Li Gang stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, the Mongols have declared war."
"What!" Zhao Huan was shocked. He didn't expect it to be so fast.
He Li stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, we have just received urgent news from Yue Fei's forces that the Mongols have dispatched troops to attack along the northern frontier. Yue Fei's forces engaged them, but due to our hasty preparations, we have been able to win and lose with the Mongols."
Meng Gurao also said: "Han Shizhong's troops on the Western Xia border have also been harassed by Mongolian cavalry and suffered heavy losses."
